THE BOY WITH THE PIERCING BLUE EYES

Chapter 34 – The heritage (part 2)

"And he just started pissing me off," Harry finished recalling his encounter with the French wizards.

The tree guests were still in the headmaster's office while he told the story of Marie's arrival to his friends in the windy corridor.

"You started arguing about something so trivial?" Hermione grimaced. "Harry, I think there really is something wrong with you…"

"They badmouthed Remus!"

"They didn't! This is the general reaction in this world when someone meets a werewolf. Everyone is scared of them even if they are in their human form. It's such a deep seated fear that it's really hard to get over. Forget it! We know that Professor Lupin is a respectable and nice person. Other people's opinion don't matter."

Lamerin shrugged. "I think you should try getting along with them. After all, they protect your girlfriend…"

"Yeah," Ron nodded. "If you insult them, they might leave and no one will take care of Marie."

Harry muttered under his nose. "Why do you guys always have to be right?"

Ron smiled and was about to answer when the door of the headmaster's office opened and the three guests descended the stairs.

"At last!" Harry looked up with shining eyes.

Marie reached them first, a bit surprised to see the three young wizards.

"Hello," she greeted them.

"Marie. Let me introduce my best friends to you. Ron, Hermione, and he is Professor Snape's son, Lamerin." Harry pointed at each of them.

The girl's eyes widened. "Professor Snape is your father? Wow. Nice to meet you all."

"Where are you staying?" Hermione asked.

"On…" Gilles looked at a parchment. "… the third floor. But I don't really know how we're going to get there... This castle is huge…"

"We'll show you the way," Ron winked. "We know this place like the back of our hands," The light in Harry's and Hermione's eyes showed years and years' worth of mischief and rule-breaking.

"Ron and I are Gryffindor's prefects, so you can come to us if you need any help."

"Be careful with these stairs!" Ron warned them when they reached the ever-moving stairs.

"Unbelievable…" Marie followed them. "The paintings!" She screamed when she noticed the people in the pictures moving. "Witchcraft…"

Harry started laughing quietly.

"How do you think we reacted the first time we came here?"

"We wandered around a lot." Ron answered.

"Of course not! Ron! We only broke the rules when it was absolutely necessary."

"That was very diplomatic, Hermione." Lamerin chuckled.

"Rules or no rules, we had something to do each year…" Harry added.

"Above studying?" Marie teased.

"At last, someone agrees with me about the importance of studying!" Hermione smiled.

Jules got bored quickly. When he wasn't looking at where he was going, he regarded the beauty of the castle. As they reached their room, the two said their goodbye and left.

"They sleep in the same room?" Harry wondered.

"Yes. They are brothers, right?"

"Well, yeah…"

"According to the parchment, this is your room."

They opened the door feeling a bit afraid of what they would find, but the room turned out to be better than expected.

It had huge windows with big deep-red curtains. As they stepped in, the fire in the fireplace came to life, lighting up the furniture in the guest room. Seeing the big double-bed, Harry – hidden from his friends' eyes – thanked whoever thought of getting a bed this big.

"Beautiful," Marie said as she put her coat on the sofa. She was surprised to find her luggage at the foot of the bed. "Wow…"

Hermione looked at her watch.

"What do you think about going to the baths before dinner?"

"Oh, that would be great!" Marie said gratefully. "I was travelling all day…"

"Alright then… Harry! As soon as Marie gathered her things come to the common room and we can leave for the baths together. I'll show her the bath rooms."

"I suggest that we leave," Lamerin offered when he saw how Harry kept looking at the bed. He shook his head and followed the two prefects out of the room.

Marie looked at her lover with seductive eyes as she fumbled with her bag. In the dimly lit room, they regarded each other until Harry took off his robes and put his hands on the girl's waist.

"Harry…" the girl smiled. "We don't have time for this now… Your friends are waiting for us…"

"They need some time to get their things too…" Harry kissed her greedily.

"At least wait until we cleaned up. I smell…"

"Me too." He kissed her neck.

"Sounds appealing…" Marie said with feigned disgust. "Cold…" she whispered as the boy opened her blouse.

"Then let me warm you up…"

Hermione looked a bit annoyed while waiting at the Fat Lady's portrait when Harry and Marie ran up to them.

"I got your stuff!" Ron handed him a small package with clean clothes and towels.

"Sorry!" Harry apologized. When the girls started walking ahead, he smirked at Ron. The redhead didn't want to believe what his friend suggested and hummed in embarrassment.

Quite a lot of students walked around the corridors with the same intention as them. The holiday feast always proved to be especially good, so they wanted to take a bath before it started. There was a small line in front of the girl's bath room.

"Oh, this'll take a while…" Hermione said sounding disappointed. "I hope the line moves quickly…"

Harry stopped next to them as they stood in line.

"What?" Marie teased. "Are you coming with us?"

"Of course."

"They will be very happy with you there." The girls chuckled.

They kissed a few times so Hermione tried looking at something else to not appear impolite. She noticed Cho and Marietta in the line not far from them, watching Harry and the new girl.

"I sense trouble coming," she muttered.

Others around them kept glancing at the pair too. It wasn't unusual to see kissing couples in Hogwarts but if Harry Potter did something like that it was considered important. Last year half of the school was discussing his relationship with Cho; so it was understandable that everyone was surprised with his new, very open behavior.

"Now go!" Marie tried sending the boy away. "Everyone is looking at us…"

"If I said that I'm used to it, would you think I was arrogant?"

"I see! So you woo everyone this openly?"

"No," Harry grinned. "We'll come here once we are finished," he said to Hermione.

"Okay…"

The two girls watched the boy disappear at the end of the corridor.

"He's not usually like this," Hermione said. "Much more reserved. Thankfully his friends don't leave him alone."

"He's very sad," Marie added. "He wouldn't have anything to be happy about if it weren't for you guys… I don't know him as much as you but… he told me a lot about himself… his childhood… and orphans understand each other better." She shrugged.

Hermione didn't know what to say so she just nodded as they finally got into the bath room.

The entire room was covered in steam and in every shower there was someone. Two shower cabins freed up next to each other so they ran to it. After putting their things on a chair, they started undressing. Hermione was looking for Cho with her eyes, curious to see if they got in yet. She didn't have to search long as she noticed Cho in undergarments as she was folding her clothes all the while not taking her angry eyes off of Marie.

"Hermione? Can you help me put my hair up in a bun?"

"What? Oh, yes, of course!" she replied and stepped behind Marie. She realized that the French girl was a foot taller than her.

How old is she? Hermione wondered as she secured the long hair.

"Thank you. Do you need help?"

"No thanks…"

As they were showering, Hermione noticed a lot of girls whispering and pointing towards them. She started feeling bad in the midst of all these gossip girls.

"Potter's girlfriend…"

"Who, that?

"Yes, the blond one!"

"More brunet than blond…"

"… I saw them kissing!"

"He wanted to come in with her…!"

"I'm sure they are doing adult things!"

"Yuck!"

Hermione rolled her eyes.

What prudish people…

Cho kept dropping her soap as she was washing angrily. A lot of girls were talking about her also so the scene was embarrassing for her too.

"Look how long her legs are. It's obvious she's a Muggle!"

"It seams that Harry prefers older girls…"

"I think Cho is prettier."

"Come one! She can't compare to the likes of her!"

"Why? She's much thinner!"

"I heard from Anthony Goldstein that she's Italian!"

"Why, she's a foreigner?"

"Oh God!" Hermione shook her head.

"So what's up, girls?" The Patil twins greeted happily. "What's this gossiping about?"

Most of them stopped talking and concentrated on washing up instead.

"Thanks, girls," Hermione sighed in relief. "You came just in time. Do you have an open cabin?"

Padma shook her head. "We'll go after you finish."

"Oh, you're twins!" Marie smiled.

"Yes. Parvati and Padma," the girls winked. "And you must be Harry's girlfriend. Everyone is talking about you."

"If that makes them feel better…"

Marie finished drying herself before Hermione and took her clean clothes out.

"Is it bad that I only have… normal clothes? I tried picking ones that are similar to your uniform, but…" she picked up her black skirt and blouse.

"It's okay. Everyone wears Muggle clothes in the holiday season…"

"Pretty," Parvati said seeing Marie's underwear. "French women know how to get a man interested…"

"I need something to keep that boy," Marie chuckled.

"Are you ready?"

"Yes. Let's go," Marie said while putting her comb away.

As they reached the door, Cho almost knocked them over as she practically ran out of the bath room. Marietta had a hard time following her.

"Rude!" Hermione hissed.

"It's okay. She's probably in a hurry…" Marie shrugged while searching for her lover with her eyes.

Hermione didn't know whether to tell her that the girl was Harry's past girlfriend or not. She didn't know what Harry told Marie and how honest he was with the girl. Eventually, she decided that it was better to let Harry handle it.

"Before we start the holiday feast, I would like to say some words. First, let me welcome our guests who will be spending the holidays in our castle," Dumbledore started his speech.

Marie blushed and Ron – along with a few of his classmates – looked around to see if there were any more guests beside the three French people.

"Tonks is here!" Ginny whispered and pointed toward the witch sitting next to Remus.

Then Remus' Christmas will be great too! Harry mused.

"Last, but not least; I know that Christmas is about celebrating," the headmaster continued. "But I ask everyone to be careful. These are dangerous times… However, don't let these dark clouds ruin this beautiful evening. Let's eat!"

"Don't be scared, okay?" Harry touched Marie's arm.

"Of what?"

However, at that moment the Great Hall was suddenly filled with the satisfied sounds coming from the students.

"Oh my God!" The girl screamed. "The food just appeared!"

"I told you not to be scared," the boy smiled.

"And this is real… food? Is it edible?" She poked the meat with her finger.

Instead of saying anything, Harry motioned towards the Creevey brothers eating at the other side of the table.

"Let's eat, love." He kissed her and started earing.

Marie reached for the food with a big sigh.

"Soooo good!" Ernie exclaimed at the neighboring table.

"I'll fill myself up tonight," Justin added. "The food at home isn't half as good as this!"

A lot of them smiled at comments like these.

All of a sudden, the ghosts appeared in the Great Hall.

"Don't be scared of them either!"

"Why?" Marie looked around.

"Ghosts!"

"Really?" The girl's eyes were shining. "Cool! We also have one! He keeps making people jump!"

Harry almost choked on his food while laughing at her expression.

"You look a little pale, Sirius," Remus teased.

Black however, started to not appreciate his friend's bizarre humor.

"It's easy to make fun of a dead man," he huffed. "I'm like this because of Harry."

"Why?" Remus pulled out a bottle of wine and two glasses.

"We saw him going to bed," James shrugged.

"You are peeping toms, I hope you know that." Remus shook his head. "So that's why Lily is so… out of it…" he looked at the happy ghost hovering near the window.

"It was embarrassing to see what they were doing!" Sirius exclaimed.

"Why? What were they doing?"

"Hugging, kissing… you know what I'm talking about."

"But what's so embarrassing about that?"

"Well…"

For a moment, Sirius looked thoughtful.

"That he's doing this already. He's… so young! Last year… last year he wouldn't even talk about getting his first kiss!"

"You let him tell? You were the stupidest uncle I have ever seen. Teasing, mischief! Harry needed you emotionally. He needed your advice. All you gave him was an awkward hug."

"So I screwed it up, right?" Padfoot asked sadly.

"To put it lightly," Remus agreed quietly.

Sirius slumped down on the edge of the bed and watched the carpet with unseeing eyes.

"Make it right!" Lupin leaned close to him.

"What? But… how?"

Moony eyed him strangely. "You know, I never really asked, but… are you certainly dead?"

"Beg your pardon?"

"I mean how come you can sit down on the bed while Lily and James can't?"

The three ghosts looked shocked at the simple but relevant question.

James, just to prove the point, tried sitting down on a chair, but went right through it.

"Whoa… what the…!" Sirius jumped up.

"Unbelievable!"

"How dead am I?"

"Padfoot, don't be stupid. There are no degrees of being dead!" James argued.

Remus tried not to laugh at his friends.

"What do you feel?" Lily tried.

"Nothing…"

"Then what did you feel when you… you know, died?"

Sirius bowed his head.

"It was terrible… Like an ice cold hand ripped my soul out of my body. I fell through the Veil, but I never landed anywhere… What could have happened to me?"

"Is it possible that there is a charm that disconnects the soul and the body?" Lily asked carefully.

"It's true that what happened to you is different from what happened to us…" James stepped next to his wife. "When… Voldemort defeated us, the pain and suffering stopped. But you still felt the pain…"

Remus and Sirius looked at each other.

"Do you think it's possible for me to… return to the living world?" Padfoot asked with hope clear in his voice.

"If it is… still possible for you to live… you have to do everything you can," Lily said seriously. "To be with him again… Do it for Harry!"

Harry woke up feeling bothered by a candle's bright light. The curtains in the guest room were drawn together, but he could see that it was already light outside.

The boy sat up, rubbed his eyes and leaned back. His girl lay next to him, her bare back visible. Harry watched her for a while as she breathed in and out rhythmically. This last night with the one he loved helped him fill up with energy and his soul felt lighter.

Ron, when he heard that Harry's not going to sleep in his own bed, got angry and didn't even know what to say in his embarrassment. Seamus and Dean seemed to be okay while listening, but there was something suspicious in their smile. Harry could only hope that they won't do something to make him feel miserable. He was pretty sure that by the morning, half the school will know about this… But he didn't want to be the main topic of gossips again.

He was looking for Marie's clock. On the night table he found it and realized that it was around breakfast time already so he leaned over to his girlfriend and kissed her neck. She started chuckling and slowly turned to him. Her white arms found their way around his neck as she tried to buy some time to laze around in bed. Harry reciprocated the loving embrace.

"You're beautiful…" he kept repeating.

Their kisses turned more and more passionate while the hugs and touches turned from light to a morning love making.

"I love it when you lean over me…" Marie whispered with a smile, because Harry's breaths tickled her neck.

"I love… cuddling… with you…" Harry said between light kisses. "When I'm with you… everything seems so simple… beautiful… magical…"

"I'd love to scream…" Marie sighed.

"Then let's scream together…"

A little while later they were walking in Muggle clothes towards the Great Hall hand in hand.

"And you're not afraid of these ghosts?"

"There's no need to be afraid. Most of them are very friendly."

"It must be strange… that they just walk around…" she turned to the three ghosts standing at the end of the corridor.

Lily watched them with a smile, while James looked proud and Sirius regarded them a little embarrassed.

"The ones over there are… weird…" Marie added.

Harry raised his eyebrows and looked around because he didn't know what the girl was talking about.

"Who?"

"Them," she pointed towards the three ghosts discreetly.

Harry looked so puzzled that it looked like he was the Muggle and Marie was the witch.

"What are you talking about, love?"

"You can't see them?"

"Who?"

"There are two men and a young woman there,"

"Merlin's beard!" James yelled. "That girl can see us!"

"Of course I can see you! I'm not stupid."

Harry's eyes widened as he looked around even more puzzled than before.

"Hey, girl! Shhh" Sirius joined in. "Shut up!"

"Don't talk to me like that!"

"Shut the hell up!" Black lost his patience. "Don't let him know that you can see us!"

Marie's face turned red from anger. "What an ill-bred man! Rude English ghost! Come on Harry, let's leave them alone!"

She took his hand and pulled him away form them.

"You know, sometimes you scare me…" the boy confessed.

"It just shows that ghost and the living shouldn't be together!" Marie fumed. "Let's not talk about this…"

They saw a lot of students running around, pulling their bags after them. The entrance of the Great Hall was almost entirely blocked by the students' luggage. Mr. Flinch argued with the kids loudly, almost pulling out his little remaining hair in the process.

"They are leaving now?"

"Yeah… can you smell this? Heavenly!"

"Let's hurry!" the girl added as they were both starving.

"What a mess," Harry said as he noticed the students running around. "Come on; let's find some place to sit…"

"Oh, Potter and his little Muggle girlfriend!" Draco's voice could be heard not far from them.

Harry closed his eyes and took a deep breath. He knew that Malfoy won't let the opportunity go to pick a fight with him, but he was in no mood to quarrel right now.

"Good morning to you too, Draco," he hissed. "Let's go M…"

"Don't take her away, we all want to see her!" the Slytherin boy laughed.

Marie looked at the blond boy distantly.

"Quite pretty for a Muggle… But let me congratulate, she fits you well." He smirked while the Slytherins around him laughed.

"What your problem with me?" The girl asked firmly. "That I'm not a witch?"

"Yes, darling, in the end you'll infect the air in this school."

"How dare you?!" Harry pulled his wand out.

"Don't!" His girlfriend screamed while trying to hold him back.

"This is funny!" Pansy Parkinson laughed. "A Muggle is holding the great Harry Potter back!"

Crabbe and Goyle laughed like to pigs because their mouths were full.

"You don't have to protect him, you pathetic little Muggle," Draco said with disgust. "Out of my way!" he yelled and grabbed the girl's hand.

"Ng!" She groaned as the boy squeezed her arm tightly.

"Come on, Pot…"

However, he couldn't finish as he screamed out in pain. The skin on his palm looked like it was about to catch on fire. He tossed Marie away who was caught by Professor Snape who had just arrived to the Great Hall. Draco's leather glove turned to ask. Harry realized what was happening as soon as he saw that.

"What… what did you do to me, you filthy Muggle?" Malfoy reached for the girl again.

Harry however, moved next to him and caught his almost injured hand to keep him back.

"Don't touch her! You'll be injured further!"

Pansy, Mott and the two gorillas poked the girl with their finger, but they all got burned and whined in pain.

Draco seemed to forget that Harry was squeezing his wrist. They were both staring into the girl's eyes. The strange yellow dots in them seemed to shine brighter now.

"What's… happening?" Ginny asked.

Harry raised Malfoy's hand and touched the remains of the burned leather glove.

"The same thing that happened to Quirrell… She is protected," he turned to Draco, who couldn't believe what he was hearing. "A spell is protecting her from those who practice dark magic," the Gryffindor boy looked at the Slytherins with burnet fingers.

Malfoy regarded at Marie with disbelief and looked horrified when he saw that Professor Snape wasn't hurt holding the girl…
