THE BOY WITH THE PIERCING BLUE EYES

Chapter 42 – A bloody Saturday (part 1)

"Parkinson!" Ginny cried with sooty face. "Don't hurt the little ones, you coward!" she pointed her wand at the Slytherin.

"Petrificus Totalus!"

Pansy jumped out of the spell's way but she fell. Cursing, she stood up looking at her palms that were bleeding and saw small stones mixed in with her blood. She took her wand and shouted a spell but tears welled up in her eyes at the painful contact.

Meanwhile, Neville tried to evacuate the children from the center of the fight. Luna tried helping in finding a way out and stopped above a cellar door. She thought the fire wouldn't reach there and no one would look for them there either. The children ran; there were some Hogwarts students among them too who were there because of curiosity but most of them were from the village. Luna closed the door after them and covered it some leaves. She nodded at Neville and they joined back in the fight.

Severus dropped his teaching robes and knelt down before pointing his wand at a Death Eater. Smoke came out from under the hooded figure's mask and he looked at his attacker with disgust.

"Rabastan Lestrange…!" Snape whispered.

They raised their wands but then someone grabbed Rabastan's hood and shoved him.

"He's mine!"

"But Rodolphus…!"

"Where's my wife?!" he shouted at Snape. "You traitor!"

Severus however, didn't waste time on talking; he sent a curse towards the man but Lestrange stopped it.

"You'll pay for all you've done! If I don't kill you then our Lord will! Cru…!"

"Incendio!" Rowena shouted behind him. Rodolphus' robes caught on fire and he started flailing around.

"Put it out!" he pleaded his brother. He grabbed the other's hands and practically begged him in agony. He couldn't put out the fire on his own because his wand was burning too.

Rabastan however, hesitated at the sight. He spent too much time thinking until his own clothes caught on fire too. The both of them screamed while searching for water. In the center of the village there was a fountain but there was no water in it due to the villagers expecting another cold day. They didn't start it in fear of the freezing water destroying it. So Rodolphus ran towards one of the wells but all heads turned after him as he went. Very few people had ever seen people with burning clothes run around.

Rodolphus grabbed the rope and started pulling up a bucket full of water. But the fire reached the rope too and it soon torn with the bucket falling back.

"No!" he shouted in exasperation.

Shakily he climbed to the ledge and jumped into the well head first. Rabastan, who was also tortured by the flames couldn't jump after him in fear of hurting both of them. So he ran to the next well and jumped in without trying to get the bucket out first.

Rowena ran to her lover and after hugging each other they watched the two figures in amusement.

"Merlin, how pathetic…!" she sighed.

"Well done," Severus praised as he lightly squeezed her wrist. "Be careful!" he kissed her forehead.

They didn't see who sent the spell but something went past them and hit a wall not too far away. They both tried to cover from the flying rubble. Severus knelt down and pulled the woman with him before shouting.

"Exumai!"

From behind one of the overturned carriages a dark figure flew back as the spell hit him.

"My most faithful servant," someone started in a loud, hissing voice nearby causing Snape to tremble. "…crawling in the dirt… at Dumbledore's feet… WHERE ARE YOU, SEVERUS?"

Snape felt the Dark Mark on his skin burn almost paralyzing his whole arm.

"Run!" he told his lover but the woman seemed to hesitate.

"No!"

"I said run!" Severus stood up and pushed the woman who rolled down into a roadside ditch.

However, before he could use a spell to conjure a shield he dropped his wand because his every muscle twitched at the Dark Lord's torture spell.

Voldemort himself joined the fight and the Hogwarts students paled upon seeing him before running to take cover. They didn't even dare say his name… or write it down so when they saw him face-to-face, the only thing they could do was to run.

The feared wizard slowly walked towards the shivering Severus who fell to his knees when his strength left him. He still kept his wand pointing at him prolonging the curse. His long fingers emerged from under his robes as he touched Snape's face… just like in the past. Severus closed his eyes and gritted his teeth in pain. He didn't want to seem week in front of his former master; he didn't want to give him the pleasure of causing him pain. The man suddenly grabbed his neck which surprised the professor very much.

"You should know that I don't tolerate traitors! How fruitful our relati…"

"Stupor!" a boy shouted behind him. Soon after, a snake hissed out in pain.

Voldemort turned around still holding his former servant's neck to see what happened.

"Nagini!" he hissed. "Stimula!"

The snake's body shuddered as if coming back to life. Voldemort hissed some orders to the animal and Harry, since he understood the language, seemed frightened as if wanting to flee. The Dark Lord smiled as the serpent followed his orders and turned back to his suffering victim.

Severus' shaking hands closed around his wrist.

"How dare you touch me?! You filthy Muggle-loving…!"

However, an animalistic scream came from behind him then blood and flesh pieces hit his back. He turned around furiously and was horrified at what he saw.

Harry blew the snake into pieces and had no intention of running away. His only purpose in pretending fear was for Voldemort to turn away from him.

"NAGINI!" he shouted at the sight of the dead snake.

The dark wizard jerked Snape up by his neck and with a quick curse finished their confrontation to focus on the boy.

"No!" Harry exclaimed in horror.

The professor slowly fell back, his long hair flailing in the wind. He lay motionless on the ground with his arms outstretched.

"Severus!" Professor Flitwick shouted upon seeing his colleague collapse.

"Seve…"

However, Lamerin cried out the loudest.

"Dad! No!"

Ignoring his opponent he started running towards his father until someone grabbed his arm and pushed him to a tree.

"Never… NEVER TURN YOUR BACK TO YOUR OPPONENT…!"

However, a quiet whispering voice could be heard behind them and Hestia Jones, who held the boy's arm tightly, fell to the ground with a surprised face. Lamerin could see no injuries but knew that the person in front of him was no longer alive.

"Miss Jones…" he moaned hoarsely feeling terribly guilty.

He slid down and sat at the foot of the tree as tears fell uncontrollably.

Remus was also witness to the tragedy and since he couldn't be at two places at once, he turned to Harry.

"Harry!" he shouted but a spell hit his back and he went flying.

He fell on his stomach about three meters away and turned around with a groan to see who got behind him.

He would have recognized that figure even blindfolded. Dark robes, short, stooped figure.

"Peter!" he yelled furiously.

Immediately, he was on his feet but he couldn't say anything before Pettigrew sent a disarming charm at him.

"Incarcerous!" Peter continued.

Remus was slammed into a tree and magical ropes appeared around his body.

"Well, after all these years…"

"How dare you show yourself here, Peter?! Get lost!"

"I must admit I was expecting a warmer welcome after all the time we spent together… with James, Sirius… you and…"

"Shut up! Shut up, you traitor!"

"How rude," contempt appeared on Pettigrew's face. "Though I didn't expect anything else from you. You're the same as them… I heard what happened to our dear Sirius…"

Remus' eyes filled with concentrated disgust. No one had ever seen him look like that…

"I'm so sorry I couldn't be there…" Peter continued after noticing the change. "I guess you grie…"

"SHUT UP!"

The wizard raised an eyebrow.

"So this is how it is. You leave me no choice… Argmentum!" he gestured towards Remus' bonds.

The rope that coiled around Remus's neck turned into silver further torturing the man. Lupin began to breathe heavily until he couldn't hold it any longer and cried out bitterly.

Wormtail watched him in silence until he took off the glove from his silver hand. There was no fear in Lupin's eyes; he could only hate the man standing in front of him after all he had done to him and his loved ones.

"And now," Peter said, "…with you dies the last Marauder who stood by Dumbledore. I'll be the only one left…"

"You've long stopped being a Marauder, Peter!"

Pettigrew quickly grabbed Lupin's throat and squeezed it. Remus screamed in agony because the contact with silver meant pain and death to a werewolf.

"Shut up!" Wormtail whispered. "Shut up, you bastard!"

Then he let go.

"I've always hated you," Peter continued coldly. "Disgusting half-breed! What with becoming Animagus because of you! So poor old Remus will be happy!"

He spit in front of him.

"You mean nothing to me!"

With his shapeless, glowing fingers it seemed like he was caressing his face and neck. Remus' skin was already red from where the ropes touched it. It looked like a burnt mark as it strangled him.

"Suffer! I won't be kind to you… Suffer until all the life had left you…"

To his surprise, his childhood friend snorted in disgust.

"We'll rot in hell together!"

With blank eyes, he started chanting a spell. At his words his fingers started to tremble then turn into paws with long claws.

"What…?!" Peter cried out.

Remus' metamorphosis however, didn't stop there. On his head, neck and chest the hair grew and turned black, his face grew and huge fangs appeared. He growl as he bit Pettigrew's shoulder. The smaller man screamed and tried to push the half-man-half-wolf-looking man. But by then, Lupin sank his teeth into his flesh. However, as his strength left him he turned back to human.

Wromtail stumbled away and tried to hold the flesh together with his hand. The blood oozed out of it while he looked at his silver hand with wide eyes. Where the material touched his flesh the skin started to turn red. He felt an unexplainable pain but didn't know where it was coming from. It pulsed in his cells, heart and soul… as if there was some poison in his blood…

He looked up to the sky but didn't see the full moon. Though everything was covered by ash, smoke and fire it was still daylight. So he couldn't fathom how Remus transformed. But soon, he realized what had just happened. By being bitten, he also became a werewolf… but one of his limbs was made of silver. He collapsed to the ground with wide eyes. He started trembling and writhing like he had a seizure. He suffered until his life faded…

"Ron!" Hermione cried out when she saw Pettigrew was no longer in their way. "Help Professor Lupin!"

Harry would have been very proud of his DA students if he had the time to watch them fight. Thanks to the thorough preparations and countless hours spent practicing they were armed with the best defensive and disarming spells. While Potter was busy with his own opponent, Hermione and Neville took care of the others. The boy turned out to be quite the talent since he spent the summer studying from Harry's books. There was no sign of the timid boy anymore.

While Parvati and Lavender tried to keep the Dementors away with powerful Patronus charms, the others fought against the enemy.

"Padma, help! We can't do this alone!" Parvati groaned in despair.

The villagers were shocked by the children's courage. Seeing the fourteen and sixteen year olds fight against the adult Death Eaters made them come out of hiding and join in.

"Ginny!" Luna screamed when she saw her friend being hit by a yellow spell.

The girl's forehead was bloody and the red liquid poured out of her nose and mouth too. Ginny rolled down into the ditch without a word. Neville, after spending a spell at a young Death Eater, looked at his friends. He had to realize that they were all too busy to go after Ginny to see if she was still alive. Seamus was slammed against the wall when a spell hit him as he ran after Hannah who was chased into a house by a dark witch. Ernie lay in a twisted position and he could see from a distance that blood was trickling down the side of his head.

"Dean!" he shouted when he saw the boy sending a spell at Crabbe. "DEAN!"

"What?" he asked with outstretched arms.

"Dean, go look for Ginny because…!"

However, the boy was hit with a Rictusempra and was sent flying.

"DEAN!" Hermione screamed who also wanted to get rid of Millicent but the girl kept sending stupid curses that always disturbed her concentration. When she managed to get rid of the birds and snakes the Slytherin girl sent her way, she shouted loudly.

"Give up, Millicent! Then you'll be spared!"

"Come on, Granger!"

"How dare you turn against us so openly?" Anthony Goldstein shouted angrily. "I can't believe this!"

"They're out of their minds!" Susan Bones answered not far from them. "Justin, look out!"

"Dennis! Get back here!" Colin snapped at his younger brother who tried to put out the fire in the houses when he saw two figures blowing them up. Almost every house had a Dark Mark floating above. They saw the boy running after them and sent curses at him. "DENNIS!" Colin shouted when he could hear the snapping of his brother's bones from far away.

Hermione was the first one to get away - after tying Millicent with ropes - and ran to the boy. He was unconscious but still alive.

"Professor Dumbledore!" she moaned in despair for the first time that afternoon. There were so many injured that she couldn't handle it anymore. "Will it never end…?"

Since she couldn't see the headmaster with her eyes in the smoke, she looked for an adult. She saw a man with long red hair run the way Ginny fell but he didn't reach there on his own legs. Hermione knew the Weasley boy was also hit by something.

"Oh, Merlin…" she whispered. "Ron!"

Her eyes filled with tears when she saw Lamerin's and Professor Darling's seemingly uninjured but worn out forms. Where are the adults? The Aurors? It can't be they all fell…!

A one-story house almost collapsed from the spell that Voldemort sent at Harry. The boy could only hear ringing after the explosion behind him. He curled up while waiting for the heavy logs and debris to fall and be carried away then stood up again.

"What are you still hoping for, you fool?" Voldemort asked while laughing. "Where is Dumbledore to help you now?"

Harry wanted to shout back that he didn't need the headmaster's help but that would have only fed Voldemort's anger.

"He trusts me to do this alone! That's something you'd never understand!"

"Ridiculous," the Dark Lord hissed. "…this pathetic notion! You can never defeat me! Not even with his oh-so-great confidence!"

"If I have to die, then I'll be proud to do it! Nothing else matters! Stupor!"

Voldemort easily deflected the spell, however they both looked up when they heard a phoenix's song. In the bird's beak was a silver sword.

"Invito sword!" Voldemort shouted while Harry waited for Fawkes to get to him.

The boy's eyes filled with terror when the spell stopped the bird like a chain. The animal struggled but it wasn't enough. The sword flew out of its beak and landed in Voldemort's left hand.

"This is the great weapon?" Voldemort laughed as Godric Gryffindor's sword shined in the dim light. Wit his red eyes he looked it over then turned to his opponent. "The sword you hoped would save your dirty little life? Fool!"

He glided towards Ron, who struggled with Lupin's ropes, like a Dementor knowing how important the two were for his enemy. Oh, yes, he learnt a lot from his sources…

Horror appeared on Harry's face. Even if he ran, he would not be there in time to save Ron and his father's friend. Voldemort wanted to kill them personally. He was a great threat with a wand alone and now he also had Gryffidor's sword. He wanted to kill a previous and the current prefect of Godric's house with his own sword? And Lupin? The sword appeared to him once, right? No… it can't end like this… He saw it in his mind as the sword cut Ron's skin leaving a horrible wound then he turned to Lupin…

Ron couldn't get the ropes off of Remus even with a spell. As Voldemort approached them he kept glancing back to see how much time they had left. After a while, the icy fear of the Dark Lord approaching him immobilized him. It felt pointless to raise his wand to protect himself. Even if the man attacked with a wand there would be no point. He would just cut him down now…

Harry's chest heaved as he ran towards them. Tears ran down his smeared face but he couldn't make his friend go away. The red-head wouldn't leave Lupin there at the mercy of the enemy.

"I don't want this…" Harry moaned in despair. "I want to be there… I have to be there to save them… I want to protect them… always…"

He doubled over and bowed his head. He wouldn't be able to watch. However, something strange happened.

He felt lightless like air and the wind blew him away. He got dizzy for a moment because he couldn't feel the ground. However, when he opened his eyes he was in front of the approaching Voldemort.

"What…?"

"Harry!" he heard from behind. Ron looked at him in astonishment. "How did you get here?"
