" Did he do anything to you?" Henry asked once he saw the boy walk away.
max shook her head. " no, I was just really worried cause one moment you were next to me and the next you were gone, I got too damn mesmerized at watching the stingrays. And he started talking to me." She said slowly trying to hide her smile.
Henry then pulls her close. She heard his heart beat, and it was beating fast.
" I thought you were gone, I was so worried max, thank gosh your okay, now lets go to the gift shop and let me buy you something." He says. Max smiles and this time she doesn't hide it, taking his hand and intertwining it with hers.
This is what happiness feels like she thought.
In the end max picked out a stingray and Henry got it for her. " happy late birthday max." He says as he gave her the stringray as they walked out of the gift shop and outside to wait for the rest of the group to go home.
max though once outside turned to him and kissed him. The feeling she got when she kissed him, was something words couldn't describe. it was something she wanted more of each time. She could feel his hand on her waist, pulling her closer. This latest for a minute before the teacher told them to board the bus. " thank you Henry, I love this. And I can't wait for the fun sleepover that will happen tonight." She said.
Max smiled as she put her head on his chest to rest. But in her head she was thinking that she for the first time today had used one of her abilities. Just for a split second. She when Lucas was walking away, looked in his mind, to tell how he was feeling. If he was happy with helping her or he just did it because someone told him to. But she saw it was genuine.
" If only girls were that nice and sweet back home" he thought to himself. That thought made max's heart beat so fast. But then shook the thought out of her head. And thought about Henry. How much fun this field trip had been. And the fact that they were going to stay up late talking, playing games and would miss school together tomorrow. If that isn't relationship goals then she didn't know what was.
When they arrived back at the school, Mrs Chen was there to greet them.
" How was the trip you two ?' She asked.
" It was good until max got separated from me, I almost had a panic attack, thankfully some other dude , saw her and was nice enough to help her get back to me. Other then that it was good though mom
" I'm glad you guys found each other again. I see Henry bought you a stingray" mrs Chen said smiling and patting max on the shoulder.
" Yes , he did, mrs Chen " max said.
" Now lets get home so you two can have your birthday celebration, tonight and tomorrow. I ordered pizza for tonight, I also got some snacks for you guys and some movies. " she said.
" Mom , you are the best, thanks" Henry said before hugging his mom and then going back to max and opening the car door for her. But it was then that max saw another bus pull up.
" We had to stop here, this was the closest school. Our bus broke down to get to the airport. So we need to stay here for a few Horus till we get some cars to go to the airport." She heard someone say in the distance.
In a instant max's eyes widened. It was him. It was Lucas.
She wanted to go run to him but Henry stoped her.
" Come on max , we don't want the pizza to get cold do we?" He says not noticing who or what max was staring at.
Max still staring at him , until he see her and he waves and says " oh my gosh max".
Max though then is turned to Henry.
" No we don't " she says as she sighs. before turning back to look at Lucas one last time. Before getting into the car
Lucas's POV
there she was. The redhead she had helped earlier that day. max. Lucas guessed she went to this school. She was getting into a car and a guy was holding the door open for her. But she was looking at him. Though then the guy said something in her ear and she looked at me once more. And got into the car and drove way. It killed Lucas that it was probably the last time he would see max. Although he had only known her for a minute. She was so sweet and was like no girl back in hawkins. That boy who held the door open for her, was lucky. Lucas assumed it was her boyfriend. In a few hours he would be going back to hawkins , but he wouldn't forget the redhead who he helped that day. She was not forgettable.
