Chapter 75
Harry looked up when the pair of chatting voices entered the waiting room. "Grandma! Grandpa! You made it!" He smiled as he stood, and hugged them.
"Hey kiddo!" Trevor said, as he let his hug go. "Your Mr. Silverhair must have had things already organized, when we were just about ready to head out a car he had arranged arrived and took us to a private airstrip… We rode here in a private jet! I could get used to air travel if it was all like that… Maybe that Mr. Silverhair wouldn't mind if-"
His grandmother, Janet, swatted his arm. "Hush! He was nice enough to send a plane for us, you will not bother him further! Besides, we have other things to think about at the moment!" she said with a chuckle. "Harry? Have they said anything?"
Harry shook his head. "No. Not recently. The last time the doctor came past was a couple of hours ago… He said it may be a while yet…"
His grandmother sighed and nodded. "I was in labor with your father for almost eleven hours… It can take a long time. Have you eaten anything?"
Harry shook his head. "No, but some of my friends will be here soon, they said they would bring me something."
"Good," she said. "And how have things been? It seems like it has been a busy year for you… I'm glad you were here for this, we were concerned that between the troubles you had with the school this year and getting involved with your temporary studies, your racing and the problems with your birth parents' estates, that you wouldn't make it here."
Harry chuckled. "No, no way that could happen, Mom would have found a way to hold off till we were here… She's kind of single minded like that, and she wanted everyone here."
"So your Grandma Ako? She made it?" Trevor asked.
"Yeah, she wanted some of her tea from Fairgrove, one of the guys brought it over, she's making a cup," Harry said.
"And I brought you one as well, I saw the face you made when you saw their selection," said a voice from behind him,
Turning he smiled and accepted the heavy paper cup. "Thank you… but you didn't need to…"
She waved his concerns off. "It will help you relax," she said, then spoke to the others. "Trevor, Janet, it's good to see you."
Before they could answer a nurse entered. "Harry?" she said, trying to be polite with her interruption. "You can come back now."
Harry stood still, staring at the woman in the door to the hallway, till his grandfather took his cup of tea and pushed him gently towards the door. "Go son, your mother and father are waiting… I think they want to introduce you to someone."
Harry nodded numbly and made his way out of the room, following the nurse.
"Any bets?" Trevor asked. "Boy or girl?"
Both of the grandmothers said, "Girl," in tandem, then looked at each other then him with a smirk.
"Woman's intuition," said Janet.
Harry fidgeted, uncomfortable as the Champions prepared to enter the Great Hall of Hogwarts.
"Easy there Harry," said Cedric. "It will be over soon."
"Da," said Victor, agreeing with his friend. "We all know you are anxious to be home with your new sister, but this is the price that must be paid if you are to live in the public eye. You should know this."
"Knowing and living are entirely two different things," the young man grumbled. "Oh, yeah... I didn't think to ask, how did the next broadcast of the quidditch matches go?" he asked Victor.
"They are getting better at following the quick action. More practice is needed though, and they now have one person that does nothing but keep the Seeker in view," he said. "One of my friends owled me, they are already seeing dividends, more people watching means more team merchandise sales, and the excitement generated means full stadiums in the future, if ticket sales are any indication."
"Good," Harry replied. "And how are you doing securing your sponsorships?"
Victor chuckled. "I will make more galleons in my first game next month than I did in half a season… I have even become something called a spokesman for Mazolie Pizza and Pasta, they have set up a store in our stadium as well."
Harry laughed at that. "I take it they are doing well then?"
Victor nodded. "Da, they have something they are calling 'Pizza-Key', where once your account has been arranged a Pizza can be port-keyed directly to your door when you floo or at a set time and a draft for the cost is taken from your account. It is very popular."
Harry looked dumbstruck. "It's brilliant! They'll make a fortune!"
A short man addressed them from near the door, as they continued to chat. "Champions? They are ready for you."
Harry stopped them just outside the doors. "Guys, Fleur, I… I just wanted to apologize again, for-"
"Harry," Fleur said cutting him off. "We have been over this. You won fairly… a little quicker than we may have liked, but fairly… Never mind what occurred after… I shudder to think what could have happened if your family had not figured out someone was attempting to kidnap, and kill you, in time… or if one of us had somehow beaten you to the cup."
"She is correct, my young friend," Victor said. "In a way you protected us all and opened our eyes to the possibilities in our future at the same time."
Cedric nodded. "I was headed to a dull job at the Ministry right after graduation… but now? Well, I just signed on to the first magical television production… I'm going to try my hand at acting."
"And I," said Fleur, "have decided to continue my education. I will be taking my equivalency exams in the spring, and hopefully attending a University soon after… I believe I may wish to become a teacher."
"And as for me," Victor said, "I have already begun plans to not only be a spokesman for Mazolie but an owner as well… As I will need something to do after Quidditch, I cannot play forever," he said with a shrug.
Harry smiled. "Well, if you're all fine with it…?" he asked, checking each of their smiling faces. "Then I guess it's okay…"
"Harry?" Fleur asked as they began walking again. "What do you plan to do with the prize money?"
He shrugged. "Charity… I have a speech written… basically encouraging people to give to a foundation I had set up at Fairgrove Savings… Hopefully through its connections in the DMLE, Fairgrove, Sandfield, Hogwarts and St. Mungos, it can help other children that are in a bad situation because of their abilities… Like I was… or Luna was. Keighvin is helping arrange things…. I put some of my birth parents' money in as well…"
Fleur grabbed him and pulled him into a hug. "They would be very proud of you Harry…" she said as she let go and dabbed under her eye.
"I hope so Fleur, I hope so…" he said as they walked into the room that was filled with the sound of thunderous applause.
Harry stepped out of the RV and stretched, as a voice called out, "Hey, you!"
Harry turned in time for a pair of arms to wrap around him and squeeze. "Hey, Hermione, Luna," he said, accepting both girls' hugs. "What are you doing here? I thought you would still be getting settled in your new house?"
Hermione smirked. "I am a witch you know? And there are no laws here about me using my wand to speed things along as long as we weren't seen. No, Mum and Dad are at the office, getting it squared away, they start seeing patients Wednesday."
Harry scowled. "Don't remind me… I'm their first appointment."
Hermione chuckled. "It won't be so bad, it's just a cleaning right?"
He nodded. "Yeah, and I remember to floss… most of the time."
"So? How did it go?" Luna asked.
Harry frowned. "I had a tire issue late in the race, and spun out… but still ended up with a top ten… barely."
"So tenth?" Hermione asked.
Harry nodded again. "Tenth."
"How's your sister?" Hermione asked.
"Growing like a weed," said Shar, stepping down out of the RV and passing the now three month old to her brother. "Can you take Ann inside?" she asked. "I'm still looking for her Woofie where it fell behind the crib and she won't go down without it."
"Sure." he replied. "Alright with you Ann?" To which he got a gurgling burp sound. "I'll take that as a yes then."
"Woofie?" asked Hermione.
Harry sighed. "Her stuffed dog toy… Sirius gave it to her, it looks like his Animagus form… he said I had one too, and called it Woofie… The name stuck."
"Soooo, she's taking after her brother?" she asked.
"So it seems," he said, tickling the baby's chin.
"I didn't realize that you were taking Ann with you to the track now," Hermione said once they were inside.
"It was her first trip!" he said proudly. "And she even slept through most of the night Saturday!"
"That's great Harry!" she said in return. "So are you ready to go back to school?"
He nodded. "It will be nice to have you both there as well… I guess I kind of missed it last year, even with being so busy… I'm just glad that that mess is all over," he said, shaking his head.
"I think we all are, it will be nice for things to be less hectic this year," she said.
"Agreed," said Tannim, coming in with a pair of bags, "I take it your mother is having trouble with the Woofie?" he said, eyeing his daughter.
"It's behind the crib again," Harry said.
His father sighed. "Gona' need to fix that this week. That little hole is just too much trouble."
Harry nodded. "It won't take long, I have an idea or two."
Tannim smiled. "Then how 'bout I let you handle it, I'll just look it over to make sure it's not dangerous for Ann."
Harry nodded. "Sure, I'll take care of it after our workout in the morning… Are you two going to be joining us now that you live near by?"
Hermione nodded. "We'd like that, but how would we get here?"
"We'll talk to my crew," he said, shifting his sister a bit. "A couple of my guys live outside the compound and in that direction. I'm sure they wouldn't mind picking you up."
