Chapter 5 Aboard the Airship
(Akira POV)
I didn't bother making eye contact with anyone, I didn't want to just yet; I needed to know who to trust, so all I did was look out at the view from the window. I just began to tune everyone out until there was some sort of commotion, what was going on. Turning around, it was…a cat or was it a very tiny Grimm? Anyways it somehow had escaped its cage and now what I am assuming is a Raven Faunus is fighting with an ordinary human about the Raven Faunus' pet.
"You don't understand, I only left just to get her something to eat," the Faunus said, "just leave her alone and no one will get hurt."
"How do you know it wouldn't attack others?" the human asked.
"How would you know it when a Faunus wouldn't attack you?" I asked walking up to them, "How do you tell whether a Faunus is friendly or not to lowly humans like you?"
"Well I am Cardin Winchester and I bet you that I will do better at Beacon than you," he said getting into my personal space.
"Listen to this Cardin, you are in my personal space and I can't even think of how you could ever do any better than me? How about we make a deal," I said, "If I get better grades than you, you leave every Faunus alone after we graduate, however if you get the better grades, then when we graduate, I will swear not to fulfill my goal of becoming a huntress. So do we have a deal?"
"Fine then but prepare to lose," Cardin said.
"On one condition however," I said, "no one but you alone can complete the assignments we are given, otherwise it is cheating on both your education and this bet, so then you would be forfeiting from the deal understand?"
"Yeah, whatever," he said leaving.
I began to walk away when I heard the Raven Faunus speaking to me.
"Thank you, you don't know how much Haku means to me," she said petting her Grimm/cat pet, "she's all I have left for a family."
"It's nothing," I said continuing to walk away.
"No I mean it you don't know what I-" she said.
"Like I said, it was nothing," I said stopping to only slightly look back at her, noting her blood-red eyes and pale skin tone before continuing on.
(Raven POV)
"Odd, who is she Raven?" Haku asked looking at me with her head tilted in a cat-like way.
"I don't know Haku, but she's a Faunus…like me, maybe, we could be friends," I said with little hope.
"You sure about it, she seems like she doesn't want to befriend anyone. I wouldn't want to get on her bad side," Haku said, cuddling up as if she was trying to sleep.
"I guess you're right, but we'll never know of course," I said stoking her back as she fell to sleep before I return her back to her carrier.
(Yoko POV)
Basically, all I was doing was sitting on the windowsill watching the view as we were on our way.
"Um if you would excuse me, please sit somewhere else, you are in the only place that has the least amount of sunlight," someone said, a Peacock Faunus.
"Why should I? I was here first and this has the best view," I said looking away, letting him see the scarred side of my face.
"Oh my, a scar, you've been in too many frays. Why would you anyways unless you are or were depending on your case, a member of the White Fang," he said.
Just at that moment, everyone was staring at us.
"Why would I be a part of the White Fang? I have no connections to them, and besides, I'm just an ordinary Fox Faunus, just so we're clear, it's a birthmark, not a scar," I said while slightly unsheathing Striking Outlash, "and for the record, I'm not getting up until we land, unless of course if you want a mark to match mine."
"No, it isn't necessary, I think there's a seat I could take over there," he said leaving.
Well that was a good thing at least… I think. Anyways soon a report about the White Fang was being broadcasted and then Glynda Goodwitch came on by hologram to welcome us to Beacon Academy. Finally landed everyone was getting off and grabbing whatever luggage they had, for me, all I had was basically a hiking backpack filled with everything I had kept with me with Outlash sheathed on my sword belt. While apparently that Peacock Faunus had at least two luggage carts filled with his own luggage. Seriously, who needs that much luggage anyway? Whatever, I just hope I don't end up on the same team as him… or any team whatsoever.
Finally, everyone arrived in the courtyard for orientation. Professor Ozpin was…interesting to say it at the least and next to me was another Faunus; that was a good thing…right?
"You know what's up with him?" I asked.
"Not really although he is partially correct about us only going partially there," she said, "So, did a human make that scar on your face?"
"What?! No, I did, I'm just trying to hide from someone," I said.
"That makes two of us then," she said walking away, when I looked at her I didn't see her face, but however her silvery wolf ears and tail, "just remember to watch your back. You'll never know when something will strike at you."
"Thanks…uh…what's your name?" I asked, "I'm Yoko, Yoko Rayne."
"Akira Fang, don't ask questions about it, I'm a lone wolf, I already left my pack just so I could start over," she said leaving to another part of the courtyard.
Akira Fang, have I heard that name before? She didn't look familiar, I was already certain she didn't train at Signal. She didn't have that feeling that others have if they were from Sanctum, so which combat school did she go to? No, I shouldn't try to weasel it out…or could I, I could probably do it to that Peacock Faunus, what am I thinking, I shouldn't be doing everything instinct tells me to, but still I need to know something at least, maybe Akira's name will do for now. But something…just seems a little strange though, her name, her being a Wolf Faunus, I don't know about this…I'll figure this out…eventually. Glynda gave us instructions to go spend the night in the…ballroom? I don't know but maybe I'll notice someone familiar again. Meanwhile, I had to tune out the Peacock Faunus complaining about having to sleep in the same room as others.
(Akira POV)
I really couldn't sleep, so looking around, even with the lights dimmed most of the way, I could still see, one of the perks of being a Faunus, and I finally recognized someone after it took a while, reading a book.
"Blake? Is it really you?" I asked once she looked up, seeing her bow twitch a little, "It's been a while, do you…possibly remember me?"
"Akira Fang, granddaughter of the original leader of the White Fang," Blake said, "and niece of the current leader of the White Fang right?"
"Yeah, you don't have to remind me twice, so how's it been for you?" I asked, sitting down next to her.
"Okay at least, I left after it got violent, you had better intentions to leave before your Uncle became the leader of the White Fang," Blake said.
"I knew how my uncle was like, so I thought leaving was the best option, only thing was, I was on the streets, at least until a Tiger Faunus and his human wife took me in, they were the nicest people I knew outside of the White Fang," I said, "So how's the book you're reading?"
"It's good," Blake said.
"Wait, isn't that, Adam's journal log about his days? Adam Taurus's or is it something else?" I asked.
"Yes, it is, you knew him?" Blake asked.
"He taught me how to fight when we were in the White Fang," I said, "So how is he anyway? Is there, any news about my mother?"
"Adam, he's fine, awfully silent whenever he isn't at missions, I think he's waiting for you to return to the White Fang, and your mother, I'm sorry," Blake said shedding a small tear, "she was found dead in the river, the most thought possibility was that she was drowned. I'm sorry Akira."
"It…it's nothing," I said, "I have less connections to the White Fang then, maybe I should get some sleep."
"Goodnight Akira," Blake said, "If we're forming teams tomorrow, we should be in the same team."
"Yeah, it will be like the good old days when we were kids," I said, remembering how when we were kids, always playing around with toy swords and weapons until we were given our own.
Finally reaching it, the words about my mother dead was still pounding through my head. I'm sorry Mother, I'll do my best, I'll become a huntress, that is my goal and I never want to see Uncle ever again.
