Chapter 6 Emerald Forest Initiation

(Shawn POV)

Honestly, sleeping in this…sleeping bag and having to deal with all these people is nerve racking, especially since I have to clean my feathers after all. They are the little pride I have left since coming here. What else could I do? I spent my morning getting dressed and cleaning feathers and other morning chores that I normally did at home, only except with no help.

"Honestly, I didn't sign up for this," I muttered to myself when I was at my locker, getting Featherblade, "I didn't want to come here in the first place, I should just try to get myself kicked out of here."

"Sad idea for someone who could possibly have potential, then again, not everyone survives," someone said, seeing it was another Faunus who appeared to be reading a book, "I don't know how that is suppose to help me Haku, how does this 'inspire' me?"

I just noticed the Grimm, who was growling or whatever it was the Creatures of Grimm talked.

"I guess, but I should remember to fill out that description for Ozpin for your species Haku, he would appreciate it greatly," the Faunus said.

Just then, she took out a form and a pencil, and began filling it out.

(Raven POV)

I knew Professor Ozpin would appreciate it greatly, so I could give it to him before initiation started.

Name: Hazchat

Species: Mammal Grimm, Feline

Threat Level: F, no threat whatsoever

Abnormalities: friendly Grimm, not menacing, never attacks anyone.

Now with that done, I guess Haku would have to go back to her pet carrier.

"Come on Haku, I have to take you to Ozpin and Goodwitch so they could watch you until I get my dorm room," I said.

"But I want to come Raven, why can't I?" Haku asked.

"Because someone could accidently kill you, I wouldn't want that to happen, would you?" I asked.

"No, no I wouldn't," Haku said, finally getting in.

"That's a good girl," I said, "don't worry, I'll be back and alive when this is over. I promise."

When I got to the cliffs, I handed Haku's carrier and the description of Haku's species of Grimm. Now I was waiting for everyone else to come. Soon we were given instructions on what our mission was, to get to the forest temple and retrieve an artifact with the first person we make eye contact with. And soon we were all being launched into the forest, well not all of us.

"Um professor, mine isn't launching me," I said.

"I knew that would happen; there is always one that malfunctions," Ozpin said, "this could take a while."

"I'll be fine, I'll just go on another, set one of the others to launch me," I said stepping on the one next to the one I was originally was on and was launched later than usual, might as well get started.

Walking around, I was somewhat clueless, fighting Grimm wasn't really on my list though.

"BOO!" someone shouted behind me causing me to take out Midnight Wing and pointed it at him.

When I finally got a good look at him, I saw he was a Fox Faunus and we were looking at each other and making eye contact.

"You're not a member of the White Fang? Are you partner?" he asked.

"No, I'm not," I said putting Midnight Wing away, "I'm Raven Piercewing, a Raven Faunus and you are?"

"Yoko Rayne, Fox Faunus," he said, "so, where is the forest temple anyways?"

"No clue, any ideas on how to get there?" I asked.

"Well you could fly to get a view of what's around, but then again, you might try to abandon me, so flying is out of the option," Yoko said, "come on, let's walk this way, we'll figure it out eventually."

"Okay," I said following him deeper into the Emerald Forest.

(Akira POV)

We'll so far, initiation is quite…boring, I haven't ran into anything yet or the Forest Temple…at least until I ran into him, a Peacock Faunus.

"You've got to be kidding me? Are you wearing a suit…as in a tuxedo?" I asked.

"Well that is one way to introduce you to someone, and for the record, I thought the initiation was a written test, not any of this outdoor activity," he said, "oh pardon me, I forgot to introduce myself. Shawn Shoyuren."

"Akira," I said.

"Just Akira?" Shawn asked.

"Look if you want to know my full name, I'll tell you later if I remember, or when we form teams," I said, "come on, I think Ozpin was the one who placed the relics at the forest temple, I caught a little of his scent on the way here, so I think I could lead us there."

"If you say so Akira, just for the record, I'm not fighting any Grimm," Shawn said.

"What?!" I asked turning to see him, "look I don't care that your wearing a suit, but on this mission we're partners, we work together so that means, you have to fight Grimm whether you like it or not. Why are you even here anyway? No wait, no I don't have to know. Just keep up and survive, that is one thing I learned once."

We were silent while walking towards the forest temple, not before hearing shouts. Following it to see if we could help.

(Raven POV)

"All I'm saying is that parents shouldn't judge what both twins should do just because their favorite wants to," Yoko said after relaying a bit of his past to me although he seems to hide some things though.

"So you're lucky, you have a twin and parents, I never knew mine," I said, he knew a bit of my past too after I told him a bit of mine.

"But didn't you ever have any company?" Yoko asked.

"One, but you wouldn't like it," I said.

"Really ? Who?" Yoko asked.

"A creature of Grimm, but her species is very abnormal, she's…friendly, nonviolent," I said, "her name is Haku and if you were to compare her to normal animals, she would resemble a cat. Do you…find it odd?"

"No, you have your family; Haku is a part of your family," Yoko said, placing his hand on my shoulder, "Don't worry about it, if we're in team, I'll help you defend Haku."

I felt tears slipping down my cheeks, kneeling down; I finally said it for the first time in forever, "Thank you."

"You don't have to worry," Yoko said, kneeling down to my eye level, "You need to let out your emotions every now and then, you can't bottle it up all the time. Come on we should go now."

Invaders… evil-bringers… malevolent fighters…bringers of death.

What was that, it was mixed with hissing sounds, just then we were surrounded by two long Grimm, King Taijtu. Without him knowing as he was distracted, I was hiding in the trees. At least until the white one spotted me and advanced on me. Taking out Midnight Wing I bashed it on the flat area of the axe's blade.

"I don't want to hurt anyone, Grimm or human," I whispered loudly enough for the Grimm to hear while Yoko couldn't.

Huh, your different young Faunus, maybe not all humans and Faunus are heartless, what are you really?

"I'm Raven Piercewing, a Raven Faunus and was abandoned at a very young age, ever since then, all I had for company was a Grimm that resembled housecats which I nicknamed Haku," I muttered.

Really? Can you understand us Grimm? It was thought that no human or Faunus had the heart to connect to Grimm, yet you can, why is that?

"I…I don't know, why are you asking me-" I said just as the head of the white King Taijtu was sliced off, finding the Wolf Faunus girl from the airship before, killing the King Taijtu just before I could get my answers.

"It's you, from the airship, you had the pet Grimm/cat right?" she asked.

"Yes, you aren't prepared to kill her…are you?" I asked.

"No, I only kill the violent ones, like the King Taijtu, although what I was seeing was odd, anyways, name's Akira," she said, "the Peacock Faunus over there, is my partner Shawn Shoyuren. I already met your partner."

"Raven Piercewing," I said.

"It's finally nice to get to know you, but we can't rest just yet, we still have to get to the forest temple. Follow me," Akira said leading us.
