Chapter 28 But Yoko…
(Yoko POV)
After Akira left to the punch bowl or to some hidden place to watch us. Raven and Sky were still enjoying the night, most likely waiting until the lights were darkened to dance together. Shawn was most likely somewhere avoiding people who wanted to be with him due to his parents. I was here, stuck dancing with my sister, can this be a good time for Nora to crash in riding an Ursa or Nevermore?
"Where have you been Yoko-woko?" Yuki said calling me by her stupid nickname for me.
"I have no clue who you are or who you are confusing me with," I said, "you must be mistaking me for someone else."
"No I'm not, it's definitely you Yoko!" Yuki said, "Where have you been? We've been looking everywhere for you. Oh don't tell me a Boarbatusk did that to you. I'm certain if you come home, Father will have someone perform an operation to fix that."
"How dense are you really?" I asked.
"What do you mean?" Yuki asked.
"A Boarbatusk's tusk isn't sharp enough or thin enough to give me a scar this thin, their tusks are more for impaling someone's stomach. Why would you think I would willingly come with you when I have something better here?" I said, "I've always wanted to be a huntsman so here I am, and I won't go anywhere else until I graduate."
After I somewhat rudely excused myself to find Akira again, I left her in a state that made her seem she was going to have a fit or something. The rest of the night was barely uneventful except for the when Yuki was about to cut in on Akira and me dancing if it weren't for Shawn.
"You should thank Shawn later," Akira said, "for now, let's just enjoy this night."
The night was almost interrupted, if it weren't for Shawn as the lights dimmed as the last slow song was being played. Strings of light were hanging on the ceiling and chandeliers almost replicating a night sky if they weren't illuminating the ceiling. Akira had already spotted Sky and Raven dancing as well.
"I wonder where Velvet is," I muttered to myself, noticing one of Akira's wolf ears twitch.
"She's an upperclassman. She's on a mission with her team, Team CFVY," Akira said, "They won't be back until tomorrow."
"How did you know this exactly?" I asked.
"Yang told me," Akira said, "and them being back tomorrow is just a rough estimate."
"Well I guess trusting Yang would be better than trusting Cardin at least," I said.
"And trusting Sky is better than trusting Cardin," Akira said.
The night ended peacefully and Team ASPR went back to our dorm room to go to bed and sleep in until Saturday afternoon, or until either Teams RWBY or JNPR woken one or two of them up.
(Akira POV)
This morning I wanted to sleep in curled in my warm blankets was interrupted by brash yet apparently dainty knocking that wouldn't end. Raven and Yoko already had their heads buried under their pillows in attempt to stop the noise.
"Akira, please go and see who's at the door so they can stop," Shawn said as his voice was muffled.
Eventually until it became unbearable for me, begrudgingly, I went out of bed with a cashmere blanket Tai and Masumi sent me a while ago after the incident where Team CRDL destroyed the room. It was a bit chilly even with the blanket wrapped around myself as I made my way to the door barefoot as the knocking intensified, losing all daintiness.
"What do you want? It's a Saturday morning and we are trying to sleep," I said as I opened the door.
"Is that really the way you greet your new teammate?" someone said, Yuki.
"I haven't received any sort of notification about you becoming a part of Team ASPR," I said, making my expressions seem as monotonous as I possibly could.
"Of course silly puppy," Yuki said, making my blood boil as Wolf's Wrath was beginning to surface, "I'm the new leader after all."
"That is impossible," Shawn said getting out of bed as he began to preen his tail feathers, "In order to challenge for an official change in leadership, it must first be brought to attention by the headmaster. From there it's either the teammates that aren't challenging for leadership to vote for whom they believe is a better leader and the one who got the majority wins. Of course, with the votes must be authentic signatures from the teammates themselves. If that option is not chosen, the current leader and challenger must duel, whoever survives the longest as well as proving him or herself worthy of being the team leader becomes the team leader."
"And since we never signed to any sort of vote to determine the team leader while proclaiming you are the new leader," I said, "You forged the signatures."
"How can you tell? You can't tell if they were forged or not because I already submitted the documents," Yuki said.
"That is something I would like to know truthfully Miss Kasai," Professor Goodwitch said as she came up with said documents in hand as Professor Ozpin followed with a stern yet disappointed look on his face.
"Miss Fang, would your team like to see these documents and see if they in fact have the identical signatures of your teammates?" Ozpin asked.
"I would like to see them, in a way to prove that I haven't lost my leadership to a nightingale ," I said.
Professor Goodwitch handed me the documents as Yuki cried in protest that caused Teams RWBY and JNPR to look out of their dorm rooms to see what was causing the commotion. It was almost laughable to see whose signatures she had on them. True she had Yoko's signature on, but it was signed as Yoko Alexiel Kasai, according to Yoko, he was registered as Yoko Rayne. The other two signatures were Weiss Schnee and Pyrrha Nikos, not Raven's nor Shawn's.
"I can see the obvious mistake already," I said, "Raven and Shawn's signatures are not present while Weiss and Pyrrha's are which already brings questions since they are not a part of Team ASPR while Yoko's signature is Yoko Alexiel Kasai, the problem there is he is known as Yoko Rayne at Beacon, not Yoko Kasai."
"His last name IS Kasai," Yuki said, "There can't be any doubt in that."
"From what I can tell, you seemed to have lost a brother that looks almost identical to me," Yoko said, "however though, I am not him. You have mistaken me for someone else."
"But you are my brother, I know it," Yuki said, "Come on, father and mother misses you already."
"I have no parents," I said, "I was born an orphan, living on the streets on my own with no one to help me."
"With that mishap about the documents out of the way," Ozpin said preventing Yuki from countering, "I see there is no way for the team to have a vote on who will be team leader, so it seems a duel will take place then on Monday."
Classes were a pain to go through, with her arguing with Professor Port about how Grimm were monsters rather than prey and with Professor Oobleck about the Faunus Wars as he was prepping us for an upcoming test that included when we studied about General Lagune and how in Yuki's point of view, was being a complete idiot for just attacking the Faunus in night, not because of night vision or how ill prepared they were, of how he didn't surrender in the first place. It was during Professor Goodwitch's class where the duel was to take place; I could tell that Yuki was scared witless already. Most likely never had any sort of combat training whatsoever.
"Class, as you may already know, Yuki Kasai has transferred here today and is now under the watchful eye of Team ASPR for the time being. Due to recent events, there has been conflict over who is the leader of Team ASPR," Glynda said.
"There's no way that is possible," Cardin said, "Akira's always the alpha no matter what, her team might fall apart otherwise."
"That was the first smart thing I heard coming out of Cardin's mouth," Shawn whispered.
"Anyways, Headmaster Ozpin has seen this challenge over leadership and has agreed that this duel will decide whether Akira Fang or Yuki Kasai will be the leader of Team ASPR," Glynda said as she ignored Cardin saying that Yuki was going to die.
I was already on the arena with my armor secured and my hands hovering above Shattered Jewels' container-like sheaths as Yuki walked in. How dense is she? She was wearing a blue dress with long open sleeves that hid her hands as around the waist of her dress was what appeared to be a representation of a compass with light blue cardinal points and red points in between the cardinal points. The bottom of her dress was trimmed with golden fabric creating a wave-like pattern. She also had a light blue shawl/cape that had a silver lining as her snow white hair was braided and held in place by a sky blue ribbon. In her hands was rapier with an ornate golden guard and handle that seemed to have no way of utilizing Dust like Weiss's Myrtenaster.
"You got to be joking," I muttered under my breath as she readied herself. If my assumptions were right, she knew how to fence, not how to fight Grimm.
"When you're ready Miss Fang," Yuki said trying to sound she was superior to me.
When Professor Goodwitch signaled the match to begin and Yuki blindly rushed forward, wave her rapier around crazily as I took a quick sidestep to avoid it as I brought out Shattered Jewels by using tapping the sheath to activate it so I could draw my swords out and as they telescope. She seemed a little scared but hid that in a mask as she blindly rushed me again as I blocked it with one sword, diverting the tip to the ground before using the pommel of my other blade to make sure it would stay in the ground.
That idea wasn't much as how I thought as the blade of the rapier bended, the ornate guard cracked a bit and the pommel shattered by the impact, she was lucky she got her hand out in time. What could I do now other than publicly humiliate her? There already was most likely someone recording this battle on their Scroll other than Shawn for some reason. Shawn was doing it to help in our training in a way or have it as a reminder to Yuki at how foolish her idea was to come here and join our team without knowing and challenging leadership while others most likely to send to others if Yuki lost.
"No…no fair!" Yuki screamed as she pulled the ruined rapier from the ground, crying at how it was ruined before rushing me again.
"You don't understand," I said as I used the bent blade to my advantage as I placed my swords in the bent areas holding them tight so she couldn't do much, "this is nothing more than a toy than what real huntsmen and huntresses use."
In the end I might have used my semblance for a little bit as I shattered the ruined rapier and pointed one of my swords at her neck and the other at her chest. Even with all the meditative training Blake and Ren were giving me, I still haven't fully mastered Wolf's Wrath.
"And that is the end of the match," Glynda said, "The victor and leader of Team ASPR is Akira Fang."
"That-that can't be right!" Yuki said, "She must have cheated!"
"These duels here, as well as tournament style duels, you and your opponent have to consider it as a fight against the Grimm. That being said, you and your opponent are allowed to use your Aura and Semblance while fighting," Professor Goodwitch said.
"Do you need any more lessons to help you catch up?" I asked as I was walking back to the team, "Or will you manage on your own?"
Yuki did nothing more than puff her cheeks, act like a spoiled brat and left the class early without informing Professor Goodwitch.
(Shawn POV)
"In all honestly, I think it would be in almost everyone's best interests if she goes to a combat school; then come back to Beacon if she's accepted if she really wants to become a huntress," I said as we were all in one of the training halls, combating against realist Grimm simulation.
"She doesn't want to become a huntress, she's happy with her career as it is," Yoko said as he took out two simulated beowolves, "she's just doing it to get her 'Yoko-woko' twin brother back."
"Let's just hope she gets placed on a different team by the time the tournament comes around," Akira said as she fights a simulated Ursa.
