It's a Tuesday afternoon. School ended 4 hours ago and it's pouring rain outside for 3 hours straight. Maya is standing silently at the cemetery, staring in front of her while the rain is falling on the hood of her jacket. In front of her is a gravestone with the description [RIP Campbell Saunders, January 24th, 1996 - May 8th, 2013] carved into it. It has been 6 weeks since Campbell committed suicide. And after some mistakes she made after his decease, she promised Cam and herself to visit his grave at least once a week.
Maya's corners of her eyes went to a tree that is standing in the distance behind Campbell's gravestone. She noticed a man dressed all dark with dark hair, sunglasses and a baseball cap lurking to her behind it who she thinks she recognize.
?: THERE YOU ARE!
Maya startles and looks over her shoulder for a second, then here eyes went back to the tree and noticed that the mysterious men was behind has disappeared
Maya looks over her shoulder again and turns around. It's Katie standing a few feet away from her in front of a red pickup that probably belongs to her boyfriends.
Katie: I KNEW WE COULD FIND YOU HERE. WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING OUT HERE WHEN IT'S RAINING CATS AND DOGS?
Maya: WHAT DO YOU THINK I'M DOING HERE!?
Katie: PLEASE MAYA, COME IN THE CAR WITH JAKE AND I BEFORE YOU GET SICK. MOM AND I WERE SO WORRIED ABOUT YOU.
Maya: I CAN'T
Katie: WHY NOT?
Maya is getting tears in her eyes
Maya: I PROMISED CAM THAT I WOULD VISIT HIM EVERY WEEK, AND IM NOT BREAKING ANOTHER PROMISE!
Katie: BUT THE WEEK ISN'T OVER YET? YOU CAN ALWAYS COME BACK HERE TOMORROW WHEN THE WEATHER CLEARS. COME ON MAYA, DON'T BE STUBBORN. JUST STEP IN THE CAR WITH US AND LET'S GO HOME. DON'T YOU HAVE A BAND COMPETITION NEXT WEEK? GONNA BE THOUGH WINNING WHEN SOUNDING LIKE CRAP BECAUSE OF A DUMB COLD?
Maya stands quiet and tries to think clear for a second. She totally forgot Whisperhug is competing in the Regional band competition next week.
Katie walks to Maya, hugs her, and covers each others head with her raincoat while leading Maya to the front seat of Jake's pickup. Maya steps in first next to Jake and Katie second before shutting the car door.
Jake: Are you feeling well?
Katie: She's okay, thanks god.
Maya: It's so unfair. Why did he have to leave me? His hockey team. The entire world!? If only he came talking to me. I may could have done something.
Maya is getting tears in her eyes while Katie closes the car door
Katie: There was nothing you could do..
Katie hugs Maya
Katie: Nobody could. All the pressure and the high expectations that he experienced. He just couldn't bare it anymore. Also, the poor boy was sick and..
Maya furious freed herself from Katie's hug
Maya: NO HE WASN'T! WHY KEEP EVERYBODY SAYING THAT!? CAM WASN'T SICK! HE WAS CONFUSED!
Katie: Maya.. he was..
Maya: URGH, FORGET THIS! JUST BRING ME BACK HOME.
Katie: Maya.. I didn't mean to ups..
Jake: Uhm.. Katie, maybe it's better to give your sister a moment alone time.
Jake parked in front of the Maitlin's household. Maya storms out of the car and slams the car door angry behind her.
Katie: I really want to thank you and I'm so sorry forcing you to help me find her. See you tomorrow morning at school?
Jake: Is no prob babe, and sure!
Jake leans forward to receive a kiss from Katie. Katie doesn't notice and runs after Maya.
Katie: MAYA WAIT!
Jake: Okay then..
While Jake drives away disappointed Maya opens the front door and storms inside
Maya is climbing up the stairs irritated towards her room
Katie: Maya wait! When I said sick I didn't mean it like..
Margaret (Maya and Katie's mother who is in a wheelchair) heard the noise and rolls from the kitchen to the hallway to see what's going on. She sees Maya climbing up the stairs.
Margaret: There you are! Where the hell have you been young lady? We were so worried about you. You even missed dinner. What in the world did go through your head, leaving like that in the rain at the middle..
Maya: JUST LEAVE ME ALONE! BOTH OF YOU!
Maya continues climbing up the stairs and slams down her bedroom door.
In the meantime Maya's mom gives a confused to Katie while figuring out what just happen.
Katie: There is nothing to worried about, really. It's just.. wel.. she was at the cemetery again.. you know.. Cam...
Maya storms in her room, slams the door behind her and jumped in bed. She checks her phone. 7 missed calls and 19 missed messages. She throws her phone at the end of her bed and grabs her stuffed owl while getting tears in her eyes, again.
Maya: Why Cam!? Why did you have to leave me like this? It should be me, not you..
Maya grabs her phone again from the end of the bed and listens to some sad music until she finally falls asleep
?: Maya..? Maya..? Honey!?
Maya shoots awake. Next to her it's her mom who woke her up. Maya looks at the time on her phone. 06:31
Margaret: I know you didn't felt.. great yesterday. Katie already explained everything to me and I respect your feelings, but it doesn't make up the fact how you treated your sister and I yesterday. We will talk about this later but first, it's time for you to wake up, eat some breakfast, and go to school.
Maya: I don't feel like going.
Margaret: And I don't feel like going to the grocery store every 3 days but I also have to go and you know why? Because it's my responsibility and a part of life. Well that, and because I have 2 very hungry teenage daughters who eat everything edible thing in this house.
Maya: Well.. at least you only have to go like two times a week, not 5.
Margaret chuckles
Margaret: You get my point smart mount, now get dressed.
Maya arrives at school just in time and is opening her locker to get her french books for the first class of the day. She still feels a little bit depressed, but thanks to her mom, better then before
?: THERE SHE IS!
Maya peeks next to the door of her locker and sees how Tori and Tristan are coming up closer to her.
Tori: Maya! Where the hell have you been? I messaged you, faceranged you.. Did something happen?
Tristan: We even called you.. which nobody does anymore
Maya: No, nothing happen to me, don't worry. Yesterday after school I visited the cemetery..
Tristan: The cemetery? Why? To see Cam's gravestone?
Maya: No Trist, to fall in love again in his deep brown eyes by digging up his body.
Maya slams her locker shut and walks in a fast pace towards her first class. Tori and Tristan follows.
Tristan: Wow.. Someone's in a bad mood.
Tori: Maya. You know Trist didn't mean it like that he was just worried about...
Maya stops for a second and stares in front of her. In the distance she sees the back of a dark dressed guy with a baseball cap who resembles the mysterious men who was at the cemetery yesterday.
Tori: Maya? Are you even list…
Maya interrupts Tori
Maya: Do you guys see him?
Tristan: See who..?
Maya: That guy! Over there, hanging against those lockers. Wearing that black sweater and baseball cap who's talking with those other Gothic kids? Or am I just crazy and Imagine things?
Tori: Uhm.. nope, we can see him. Why? You know him?
Maya: Actually I wanted to ask you 2 the same question..
Tristan: Nope, never seen him before.
Tori: Me neither. I think he's new here. Should we welcome him..?
Tristan: I don't know.. he kinda looks like this.. Gothic.. emo… vampire kid..? Or whatever they are these days.
Tori hits Tristan in his side
Tori: Trist! Not nice. If he is new here he probably don't have a lot of friends. Yet! Maya: HEY YOU!
Everyone in the hallway including the mysterious person are staring at Maya
Maya: WHO ARE YOU AND WHY THE HELL ARE YOU FOLLOWING ME!?
The mysterious person walks calmly to the end of the corner of the hallway, before making a run for it.
Maya: HEY WAIT!
Maya chases after him, followed by Tori and Tristan.
Tori: MAYA!?
Tristan: WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU!?
Maya takes the same corner and chases him straight forwards until she stops at a T-junction, and lost him. Tristan and Tori also stop
Tristan: Why the hell did you do that?
Tori: yeah.. where was that good for?
Maya: That guy you two just saw..
Tristan: You mean the one you chased down like a mall-cop
Maya: Yeah, I have seen him several times before, spying on me. At school, at lunch, yesterday at the cemetery..
Tristan: So.. he is like.. stalking you?
Tori: Oehhh, maybe you got a secret admirer!
Tristan: Or a serial killer…
Tori hits Tristan in his side, glaring at him
The school-bell rings
Tori: well.. that's the bell. Guess it's time to go to hell, aka France.
Tristan: TER-RI-BLE! (with a France accent).
Maya keeps looking to the 2 ways he could have taken for 5 seconds, but decided to follow Tori and Tristan to their french class.
The mysterious guy keeps running and looking behind him. He think he escaped Maya who was running after him and thinks he have lost her, until he crashed against a blonde girl with coffee in her hand which spills it all over him.
?: OH, MY, GOD, ARE YOU OKAY? I'M SO SORRY!
The blonde girl in question was none other then Jenna Middleton a senior in her 12th grade, who is late for class so she quickly could buy a cup of coffee with her best friend Alli
Mysterious guy: It's.. It's okay. I just really have to go.
Jenna: No, it's not okay. I have made this mess on your shirt so of course I also have to fix it? Plus.. this will be a killer excuse why I was late for biology.
Mysterious guy: Really sweet of you.. but..
Jenna: Luckily for you, I have brought my hairdryer in my purse from home. Follow me.
Mysterious guy: You don't understand, I..
Jenna: Alli why don't you already go to class I'll catch you there.
Alli: Okay then.. Have fun you 2 I guess?
Alli walks to her class while Jenna drags the mysterious guy to the girls restroom.
Mysterious guy: Let go of me.. I'm not supposed to be here!
Jenna: Relax! Everyone has class and you will only be in the girls restroom for like 2 seconds. I promise I won't tell anyone.
Jenna plugged in her hairdryer
Mysterious guy: That's not what I meant.
Jenna: Just hold your shirt in front of you okay? Or do you want to walk the whole day with a brown stain in your clothes?
The mysterious guy thinks for a second before holding his shirt in front of him
Mysterious guy: You don't have to do this, really. It's just a stain. Just go to class. I'll forgive you.
Jenna: You know, this is actually have to thank you. Me and Alli already would have been late for class.
Mysterious guy: Your welcome. But can we get this over with?
Jenna: Hold up, Your cap and sunglasses!
Mysterious guy: Yeah..? What about them!?
Jenna: Let me take them off. Otherwise I will blew them away with this thing.
Jenna tries to grab the sunglasses and cap of the mysterious guy which ends in a struggle
Mysterious guy: WHAT ARE YOU DOING!? KEEP YOUR HANDS OFF ME!
Jenna: WHATS YOUR PROBLEM!? IT WOULD BLOW OFF EVENT..
Jenna managed to take of his cap and sunglasses but realizes she also ripped of his wig
Jenna: OH MY GOD, I'M SO SORRY FOR YOUR HAIR.. wait a minute. This is a wig. What guy your age is wearing a..
Before finishing her sentence she looks in the deep brown eyes of the mysterious guy, realizing it's none other then Campbell Saunders, the sophomore that committed suicide 6 weeks ago. Jenna keeps starring in his eyes for 10 seconds, startled, before saying anything.
Jenna: Aren't you.. you know.. that guy.. found in the greenhouse… Campbell Saunders.. right?
Cam: Yes, but..
Jenna: You aren't dead?
Cam: True but I..
Jenna: Wait, so you lied to everyone?
Cam: No! I mean, Yes.. Wait, I can explain.
Jenna: Explain? Explain what? Except you have risen from the dead or something, what I doubt, I believe you faked you being.. dead. And are wearing for some reason a black wig? Is this a cruel joke?
Cam: You wouldn't understand… I..
Jenna: True, and I guess the rest of Degrassi also won't understand.
Cam: Wait, WHAT? NO, NO, NO, YOU CAN'T TELL ANYONE!
Jenna: Why not? What are you hiding? Do you even know how many people you've hurt by faking your dead!?
Cam: I know, but it was for my own pro..
Jenna: YEAH, THAT'S RIGHT. IT WAS FOR YOUR OWN GOOD. DIDN'T YOU DATED WITH KATIE'S YOUNGER SISTER? HAVE YOU EVEN TRIED IMAGINING HOW SHE MUST HAVE FELT THAT SOMEONE SHE LOVES HAS TAKEN AWAY FROM HER? I BET SHE WAS DEVASTATING WHEN SHE THOUGHT YOU COMMITTED SUICIDE, BUT HERE YOU ARE, LIVING YOUR LIFE!
Cam get tears in his eyes
Cam: Please.. I.. I beg you! Don't tell anyone! And especially not Maya! I know I messed up, but please!
Jenna: Why shouldn't I?
Cam: I can't explain it to you.. right now at least! But please, if you knew you would understand.
Jenna: hmm.. okay, fine. I'll give you till the end of the day explaining yourself. But if your playing with me or it turns out to be a cruel joke all along..
Campbell hugs Jenna
Cam: Thank you! Thank you so much, what's your name by the way?
Jenna pulls Campbell off her
Jenna: Jenna. But I really have to leave for class now. Don't forget, you have till the end of the day.
Jenna closes the restroom door behind her. Campbell checks himself in the mirror, fixing his wig, cap and glasses before leaving the girls restroom thinking about what to do next..
