"I need her." Percy gestured to an unconscious Artemis.
"Wait. What? You're taking her along, but you refuse to let me or tell me where you're going?"
"Nico," Percy groaned in exasperation. "Nico, I need you here," Percy the erupted in flames taking Artemis with him.
"He did NOT just do that to me." Nico screamed. "Unbelievable." He groaned.
Great, Nico thought. I'm left alone with sleeping bodies. He paused. Jeez, he's got to stop calling people bodies in his head. They're not dead yet, anyway. He shook his head. Hestia was waiting patiently for him to take a grip. So he did just that. He imagined the room to be their control room. Hestia smiled warmly at him. That was good. Nico was doing fine.
Nico analyzed the screen. The rest of the pack was holding out good without their founders, as expected. They can last for a few more days of the Concurrence without their guidance. He checked on Camp-Half Blood. He checked on Annabeth, specifically. She was close to getting something right out of her theories. There were too many factors to consider, Nico thought.
"Lady Hestia—"
She smiled, "You'll just have to trust, Percy, Nico. You'll figure out soon enough what he's up to, right now. The question is, what will you be up to?"
"But there's so many—"
"But you're not alone, Nico." A voice said L yawned groggily. "Oh man, why'd you have me passed out, Lady Hestia? I mean I'm in on it too," L whined. Hestia laughed. She was so fond of the Pack. "I'll leave it up to you two then," she said and erupted into flames. L continued his stretching.
"So," he said. "We've got a lot to cover up." Nico nodded.
"First thing's first, you're going to be alone, Nico. I can see it in your mind, what happened. Percy's gone AWOL. And I'll handle leading the Concurrence and keeping tabs with the Camp."
"It's happening, isn't it? You're going to start looking for candidates for the Culling. Both in the Hunt and Camp."
L nodded grimly. "More than that, you know why. We need to start securing demigods. I'm taking over our Pack completely. However, you, on the other hand need to get a handle on our Allies. You need to rescue Thalia. Get some of the Pack, sure. But, informing the pack of the real truth, that's on your plate too."
"Annabeth—"
"No, I'll handle her. She's in camp. I'll do all the external control. You do what you're good at, in the shadows."
Percy needed to go back to the fates. Although, for the past years, he's been on minimal contact with future-vodoo magic. But right now, he really needed the fates. As always, the oracle was never an option. The more Apollo was kept in the dark the better.
They were in a forest in Greece when Artemis started waking up. She immediately got into a defensive position, as she sensed she wasn't alone.
"Good morning," Percy said, although it was already night. Artemis was enraged. How dare he take her anywhere, a goddess, unconscious? Percy got goose bumps from the energy amp and he shot his hands up, and said, "Whoa, whoa, whoa." He took a step back with each word.
"I did nothing. Besides, it was Lady Hestia who got you unconscious." He said looking her dead in her silver eyes. They circled each other, Artemis as graceful as ever. There was a lot of tension in the air. Percy was tempted to confront her with what she knew since they became Alllies. I mean seriously, it's only been a few days. What could she have possibly done in a few days to make her know a lot that Hestia told them to be worried? They kept staring each other with this unspoken confusion and mistrust.
Percy was the first to let his guard down. "Okay, what the heck. I give up. Where've you been, and who've you been talking to and what have you found out this past few days while you were away from the Pack?"
Artemis just gave him a cool stare. "I know what you are, Perseus."
Percy steadied his heart beat. He tried to make light of it "Ouch, Lady Artemis. I'm a demigod, you know. Half mortal-turned immortal. And half of what you're made of."
"You used to be a demigod."
"Artemis," Percy said taking her by surprised. That he suddenly said her name the way he did, suddenly informal. And the way he said it, almost pleading her to stop.
Artemis stopped circling him, but she didn't make a move closer to Percy. "I know where we are."
"Yes, and you can teleport out of here anytime you wish."
"I want the complete truth, Perseus."
Percy grinned. "That's why we're here, Lady Artemis. But first. We need a newborn."
"Excuse me?"
"I'm trying to find a newborn. That's about to go 7 days old soon. As a goddess of childbirth, you can do that, right?"
"Yes, but why don't you just find a random hospital, Perseus. Seriously. What are you trying to do?"
"I'm locating the moirai—without alerting your fellow Olympians. For that, we need a pure-blooded Greek new born child that's about to turn 7 days old."
One by one, the founders were starting to wake up. All of them were a bit groggy and suddenly very defensive. None of the founders were comfortable with being rendered unconscious all of the sudden. But when they recognize they were in what seemed like the control room, they relaxed.
"Where's Lady Hestia?"
"Yeah, and Percy?"
Nico answered, "She needed to be else where"
"And Percy"
Nico looked away. L chirped in. "We have no idea; wonderful, isn't it?"
This made everyone edgy. The Concurrence is on going. The Pack and it's secrets were in real threat to be exposed. And most importantly, Thalia was missing. Where the hell was their Ace? Suddenly, there was a noticeable of energy evident oozing out of the founders other than L and Nico.
"Don't even bother trying to sense him—he's in Greece," one of them said.
L and Nico frowned to which the one who said it replied, "What? I tried to locate him the moment I woke up and noticed he was gone."
B laughed, "Sharp as ever, hunter. What could he be possibly doing in Greece?"
Nico scrunched his eyebrows. "Doesn't matter. Let's just let him do whatever he needs to." L sighed and the Founders knew that Nico was sulking about whatever Percy was doing. They decided not to push it.
One of them seriously asked, "So, now, Thalia?"
Nico stiffened. "Yes. But first, there are things we need to do. It's time you finally knew exactly what we've been dancing around."
724 Years Earlier
Camp Half-Blood
"I could be in college right now! Marine Biology!"
"Sure, so you could cheat with your fishies"
"Hey, don't call my loyal subjects fishies!"
Nico sighed and let out one big hmph. "At least your father asked you nicely"
Percy barked out a laugh and ruffled Nico's head; it annoyed him and made him even moodier and sulkier. "I don't think intruding me and Annabeth under the lake and saying, 'Oh, hey son, you really don't have a choice, I'm sorry (insert a not so sorry face here), but I'm taking you to the palace for an indefinite amount of time' counts as a nice way to ask someone"
"I miss the hunt."
Nico muttered, "stupid prophecy."
Percy yelled out in frustration, but with a smirk on his face, "Go to the crows, stupid fates!"
Thalia frowned. "Percy, that wasn't smart."
Nico nodded, "Yeah, they probably heard you too."
Percy laughed at all their sudden seriousness. "Who cares? They probably 'predestined' me saying that to make my life worse."
Thalia grabbed his shoulder lightly, "Hey."
"What?"
"That's not funny, Percy." Thalia said in all seriousness. Percy wasn't liking the sudden change of mood. This was so not the atmosphere he wanted for their seldom getaways from training. He frowned, "yeah, whatever. I'll catch you guys, later" at the same time Percy jumped into the sea, leaving.
Nico's frown deepened and he looked meaningfully at Thalia. Thalia shrugged. "Don't shrug on me, Thals. This is getting serious. He's getting more careless. In an increasingly dangerous way"
Thalia bit her lip. "He was weak right now, did you feel it?" Nico rolled his eyes. "Yeah, I know. And I know why. He just got back from one of his suicide missions Poseidon gives him."
"Wait, what?" Thalia demanded.
"It's these missions." Now, it's Nico's turn to bite his lips. "I keep sensing his death, you see. I mean, from my visions—it's horrible, by the way, to get this kelp-head-suicide-escapades-weekly from him—Poseidon doesn't really give him that dangerous of missions. But it's. Weird."
"Weird how?" Thalia asked getting impatient.
"It's like every time he goes out on a mission, something more dangerous lurks in the mission itself. I mean, at first, I thought they were coincidences. But it's like literally all these horrible troubles are coming out of their way just to find him. It's like fate's tempting him to go to these suicide side-track missions"
"And he takes the bait every time, doesn't he?" Thalia scrunches her eyebrows before she says, "This is bad."
"No kidding, Sherlock."
"No. It'd be one thing if the moirai were playing with his fate. But, there's something wrong with him too."
Nico gives her this look. It was Thalia's turn to bite her lip. "Tyson's been telling me things. Well, actually, Tyson's been telling Annabeth who's been telling me. But yeah. Anyway. He's overloading his training regime. Annabeth said, every day, after training, Percy would need some servants to carry him to his quarters. His training immobilizes him daily. He even needs servants to make the iris call to Annabeth for him!"
"Well, shit. What the hell is happening to him? Because I know for a fact that he doesn't rest before a mission. He just trains as usual."
"Oh, gods." Thalia closed her eyes. She was really getting frustrated. There was obviously something off about Percy. It's been a few months since each of them got dragged into their respective domains. And in every month they get away to each other, Percy was becoming more and more...unstable. It's not enough that they have this Prophecy over their heads. And all these visions she has been recently getting. This isn't good. Now a days, she couldn't shake off this horrible feeling in her guts. And she's sure it isn't just frustration that she's stuck training in Olympus when she should be in the Hunt.
Nico was having similar thoughts. It was obvious that there was something really wrong with Percy right now. Poor Grover was getting caught up in Percy's predicament. Besides the talks he had with Grover, it was evident with how the environment was holding up. The Wilds have become. Darker.
On a less dreadful note, Nico decided to pop up a topic, "I have another brother"
Thalia didn't even bother to look at him. "So do I"
Nico raised an eyebrow, "So you know?"
Thalia nodded. "Sure, I do. Percy probably hasn't noticed he has a sister yet. They're coming fast. Wouldn't take a month. If they survive. They probably will"
"Visions?"
Thalia huffed. "Hera. She's been driving me crazy. She hates it I'm in Olympus."
"Oh, she doesn't hate you," Nico said, a smile almost crept his face. "She's a goddess, Thalia. It's just her threat to your father. She couldn't care any less for you."
"Oh wonderful, that's supposed to make it all better."
Thunder suddenly boomed. It made Nico jump. Thalia just shook it off. "I need to go up, now" Thalia cringed at the word up.
"What are we going to do with Percy?"
"Poseidon must know what's going on, right? You think he'd ever let us in his domain?" Thalia queried.
"Not me; you might have a chance"
Thalia was surprised, "I'm a daughter of Zeus. I thought he liked you better."
Nico shook his head and grimace. "Something happened. I'd rather avoid him for awhile."
"Let's leave Percy be. Besides, our siblings' arrival would have to force the three of us into camp for a while. Will get him to tell us what's been happening then."
Nico nodded and was about to jump into a shadow when Thalia put a hand on him. She looked at him seriously, "Percy isn't the only one growing darker, Nico." She pulled him lightly out of the shadow. "You will tell me who you keep talking to in Tartarus that made you bathe in the River Styx."
Nico's eyes grew a bit colder, but he smirked. "And what about you, daughter of Zeus? Tell me why I sense so much innate energy from your mortal body? Who exactly have you been training with that's making you this tempered enough to have stopped escaping from Olympus so soon? Or better yet, how much more powerful do you get from training with him?"
Thalia almost withdrew, but she knew what he was trying doing. "There's something happening, Nico. Can't you see? The three of us know everything can't be just this big coincidence. Something's coming and we're justpushing each other away."
Nico scoffed. Thalia rested her forehead on his. "Family." Nico froze for a moment before relaxing. "That's not the problem, Thals."
"We're pushing each other away"
"Yes. But the problem lies on who's willing to stop pushing first"
Thalia sighed and let him step into a shadow once more as thunder signaled the acknowledgement of her illegal absence in Olympus.
Poseidon's Palace
Percy got back to his father's palace
"Psych! I caught you again" Triton smirked at Percy for having caught him sneaking out once again. Percy felt calmer in the ocean, yet everything seemed heavier. Percy gave him a tired smile, but none the less wholeheartedly entertained his very old brother. "Triton, you don't say 'psych.' It's busted. I told you your slang needs a little more work"
Triton huffed, "It's all the same, besides languages changes too often. If it weren't for you, I wouldn't be trying at all." Percy grumbled something about being tired and wanting to just IM Annabeth. Triton looked at him in expasperation. "What do you mean IM her? You just got from Camp!" Triton shook his head as he watched his half-brother trudge towards his quarters, making the water around them a bit murkier and darker as he walks through.
Percy locked himself up and made a makeshift rainbow. He tossed a coin and IMed Annabeth. She was in Hephaestus Cabin. Recently, she's been trying to tinker with electronics, and Leo made her an honorary workshopnook at a corner in the cabin. She was trying to recreate daedalus's laptop and surpass it. Although, the true treasure in the laptop was the information inside it; it didn't matter much though. Annabeth had been able to copy and memorize lots of the data there. Not all, of course. But it was better than nothing.
"Annabeth" Percy breathed out. She turned around swiftly and noticed right away Percy's surroundings.
"Hey! I mean, seriously, Percy. It's been months, and you go to camp. You spend, what, a few minutes with me? Thals and Nico gets you for, like, an hour? And you're gone! I thought you visited camp to tell me something!"
Percy smiled ruefully, "Sorry. I don't know what came over me or stuff."
Annabeth just shook her head. Percy asked, "So, have you looked into more of Gaea's sleeping spell? Or on Tartarus?" Annabeth tensed a little, but nodded. "But I can't find much about the...symptoms you've told me about. All the scrolls practically says the same thing. And besides, I haven't exactly been getting those symptoms so maybe it isn't with the spell at all?"
"I know you said we can't ask other gods about this, but," Percy paused. Annabeth sighed. Yes, they were getting nowhere, and Percy should know that that frustrates her even more. But, they just can't. There's something off about it. And she has a feeling, this very harsh gut feeling that divulging any of this to the gods was dangerous.
"Speaking of the gods, Aphrodite has been looking for you. Of course, she can't go through Poseidon. But, she's trying her best to get to you whenever you're off the sea" Annabeth said. Percy raised an eyebrow. "That would explain the doves."
"What doves?"
"Oh, they keep following me around whenever I'm on land. I'm telling you, I don't care if an eagle or a hawk has better eyes, those doves' eyes are scarier."
"Annabeth?" Percy asked. She was his only safe place right now.
"Yes?"
"Thalia and Nico. They're keeping secrets. Dangerous ones." Percy said seriously. Annabeth laughed. "Aren't we?" Percy scrunched up his eyebrows. He shook his head. It was too dangerous to tell on an IM. Who knows what god was listening on them. Percy thanked Annabeth silently for forcing him to learn their own secret sign language. He told Annabeth, Nico bathed in the River Styx.
"He did what?! What in Olympus for?"
Percy barked out a laughed and signed, Oh, no. He certainly didn't do it for Olympus. Thalia too. There's something wrong with her blood. I can feel it. And she has too much power in her body.
Percy frowned hard. "There's something going on with them. There's something really going on right now."
"Percy"
Yes, Thals has too much, while you feel empty, Percy. Annabeth wanted to say. But she swallowed it down. It wasn't what Percy needed right now. He looked up at her and Annabeth couldn't help but notice how his eyes always seemed broken inside. She couldn't help but notice that not even her or his mother could fix it, even for but a moment. "One problem at a time. The water around you became darker, and I reckon, you've pressurized the water more. Breathe. Relax. You're making yourself tense."
Percy did as he was told. Everything around Percy relaxed a bit. "Thalia and Nico thinks I'm too weak. But I notice them. I keep seeing a lot of things."
Annabeth bit her lip. She was refraining from telling him that he did feel weak. Percy frowned at her, sensing her thoughts. If only she knew, a darker side of Percy said. He frowned deeper. He needed to train more.
Annabeth noticed a thought crossed in Percy's mind but before she could voice any of her own thoughts out, Percy sensed a messenger with intent to his quarters. "I got to go, Annabeth. I'll sneak out to you soon when I give you the waters again. Thanks for everything. Take care for me, please." And the Percy waved the IM away before Annabeth could reply. At the same moment, a messenger announced her presence by the door. Percy allowed her to enter.
"The goddess, Aphrodite, has asked Poseidon permission of your presence in Olympus. Lady Aphrodite requires it immediately." After that, she gave him some sort of chest. It looked like Hephaestus's handy worked. Percy eyed wryly. The messenger looked at him expectantly. "I'm sorry, sir. I cannot leave you till you open the box. It's one of Lord Hermes's special deliveries customized by Lady Aphrodite."
Percy scowled at himself. There was a slight tremor of the earth under the sea. Percy managed to control his mood to make it unnoticeable. He hesitantly opened it. And a two dimentional dove swam out and latched itself onto Percy's skin as if a tattoo. "What in the Underworld!" And then, he felt the tattoo draining him.
Percy laughed, if this was Aphrodite's way of blackmailing him to come to her to get this energy leech off of him, then she has no idea this was exactly what he needed. His laugh was cut when he noticed a piece of paper in the chest. It was in Greek. Percy's eyes widened
I know exactly what you need and what you are trying to find.
