Now thing become forshadowy. Also i should note that this chapter takes place a month later. Steven universe is a little weird like that.
It was dark at the time and everyone was off to sleep except the crystal gems who were wondering where Steven and Diamond were. A bright pillar of light exploded out on the lighthouse and a figure stood there gazing down at his hands in shock. "It worked, it worked." 'STEVEN DONT SHOUT!' He looked away sheepishly. "Heh heh sorry but look at this, its way different than when i merged with Connie. A bright light happened and Diamond and Steven seperated. "That didn't last long at all." Steven nodded. "Thirty seconds, thats not a good fusion." Diamond shrugged. "We could practice more then, also what do we call it?" A whisper ghosted through their heads. 'Topaz'.
Diamond looked at Steven and they both gulped. "You think our fusion is more Sugilite than Opal?" Steven nodded before he looked serious. "Lets do it again."
It was about a week later and Connie was over for a play date. "So you two have a third voice in your head?" Steven nodded. "Yeah but he doesn't talk a whole lot, he seems confused about whats going on most the rime so we spend most of our fusion time helping him figure out everything, but being fused is really cool." Steven looked over to Diamond who was sleeping in the corner. "I cant help but think back to the precursors though and how the gems were made its just awful." Connie sighed. "Maybe it would have been better if we didn't find out." Steven shrugged. "I don't know about that, the gems don't really tell me stuff until i'm ready to hear it but i think i like it better when i know about these things rather than if i dont."
Connie pondered that. "Its weird though knowing how they were made and where they come from i mean we know more about them then we do humans, i mean where do babies come from?" Diamond snorted awake before looking at them. "Did i jist here you ask where human babies come from?" Connie nodded and Diamond shrugged. "I know the answer to that but we should see if anyone else can explain it, i'm somewhat disconnected from the idea of reproduction." Diamond facepalmed feeling stupid for saying that. "Anyway come on." The next few minute would forever be the highlight of Diamond's day, peoples reactions were something to be remember. "I um um i um, usually its called the birds and the bees."
Sadie tried to explain it with Lars in the background looking anywhere but them. "Well how do you do the birds and the bees, could you and Lars show us?" Steven's innocent question nearly made Diamond double over but he held it well as he could he couldn't even remember what happened til later but he decided it was time he did this himself. "Okay then, Connie lets go talk to your parents, they should be here for this." Diamond sighed preparing himself. "Mode change Red Diamond!" The pain burst out from him but he stiffled his scream as he exploded and reformed into something else. Instead of looking like a human Diamond looked built for speed his legs became slimmer and he had only two toes, a tail had grown long and triangular along with rounded spines all the way from the tip to the top of his head.
His arms became larger over all with the forearms and hands twice as large with the part connecting his forearms and shoulders thinner over all, the head was the largest change having elongated in the back becoming pointed, on hi face no mouth a flattened nose and two red glowing eyes it helped that his whole color scheme changed to red. "Diamond?" The Precursor nodded before picking them up and he, moved. One second they were in front of the big donut the next they were in front of Connie's house with Diamond turning back to normal. "I'll be back in a second have go pick some people up."
Diamond sat in front of a projector screen as Connie Steven their parents and the crystal gems sat on the funiture behind them. "thank you for coming, now Steven and Connie want to know where human babies come so your parents and i have put this together to explain it to you, i'm the soeaker because while i have no doubt your parents would explain this to you themselves they're missing allot of knowledge on technical terms. While i'm hardly the person to talk about this sort of thing since i'm not human but hey you don't live with a family of doctors for several generations without learning something about their field." Diamond cleared his throat. "The reason i've asked you three here," he gustured to Pearl Amethyst and Garnet. "Is because you need to be more knowledge able about certain, parts of human nature."
Diamond had Greg turn on the projector while he made a small pointer. "Now human reproduction is an activity of close physical contact that involves a male and a female, or a boy and a girl." Steven raised his hand confused. "Does that mean i have to stop dancing with Connie?" Diamond kept a good game face but he nearly fell over laughing, living with the Hamelin's had taught him many things about humans but the questions kids asked would never not be funny. "No."
Steven looked relieved as the presentation ended, Connie and he'd never done anything like that, so 'that' wasn't going to happen. Steven noticed he'd misstepped because Diamond had stopped dancing. "Are you alright?" Steven shrugged before his shapeshift collapsed turning him back into a child. "Sorry got side tracked." Diamond shrugged it happened. "Alright one more time, we need to shave down how long out fusion takes." Steven nodded shape shifting again growing taller and older, in adult form they'd discovered that Topaz could be stronger, which made sense while Fusions were more powerful than than the sum of there parts how powerful two components were made a huge difference. It was like five time two versus five times ten, it just worked the dance was harder though.
Steven and Diamond could fuse and they found that their fusion was powerful but it took to long the dance had to many moves taking almost a full minute when most fusions took at most a third that time, Topaz was much more powerful but he took to much time to form to use when cornered or alone, so they'd shortened it experimenting. After practicing so many times they could do it in their sleep, they were worked on speed how fast the moves could be exucuted and had shaved it down to forty seconds, now they were seeing if they could shorten the dance by discarding a move or two. They noted that steps five three nine and twelve could do without but one seven thirteen and eleven were vital. Diamond had his suspicions on an even faster way but didn't want to use it lest Steven ask questions he wasn't ready to answer.
"Alright lets remove step two."
Next chapter Diamond teaches steven to fight and Peridoy appears.
