Fusion failure

Topaz's eyes widened before Rose's sword burst out his chest right through his gem. Jasper and Lapis gaped in shock before everything faded. Topaz opened his eyes to see Steven and Diamond grabbing Fake Topaz and dragging him away. "I'm okay just need to sleep for a second." Malachite nodded as she glowed. "Get him good I know you three can." Topaz passed out just as the water around them started to drain away. Diamond and Steven groaned and fell before glowing and bursting, they'd defused. Steven was beginning to drown but Diamond quickly grabbed him and sped them to the surface. "So that's what shock feels like."

Steven groaned as Fale diamond got up. "Oh fu-" he didn't get to say anything else before Malchite headbutted him. She looked much the same, except now she was smaller a little taller than sardonyx with feet instead of arms. "We're strong, and in a way we owe that to you but you hurt our friends and your going to pay!" Water quickly rose up and made shapes and sizes before they converged on him. False diamond smirked before forcing them all to smash into the ground with a gravity crush, that didn't work for long though as he was shot up into the air like a rocket and Malachite was able to fight off his waning ability.

He a look behind him to see Daimond on the ground shimmering as his energy was draining at a rapid pace to keep his still. He saw a shadow overhead as Malachite spun quickly to charge up before dropping like a hammer. "Fall" the impact was spectacular even from the distance Steven was as he saw Fake Topaz smashed though several pillars and Diamond collapsed trying to keep him still. The sounds didn't really register Til a second later and the crashing made itself known as a boom that rattled Steven's teeth even with the explosions distance from them.

"Are, are they alright?" Diamond's magisight was a little fussy but he could see through the dust kicked up. Malachite rose up huffing and Diamond finally got fo his feet. "Good work you three but maybe you need some rest." The large fusion huffed some more before floating over to them something Diamond noticed but didn't comment on, Steven however... "How are you guys flying without water wings?" Malachite smiled lightly "oh its one of Jasper's powers" Suddenly all went still as Malachite came apart, Lapis landing on her face as Jasper landed on her back simply staring up at something no one could see.

"J-Jasper?" Steven looked confused as the quartz warrior failed to respond to anything. Diamond put his hand on her gem and fed her a little of his energy before taking his hand away. "She's in shock, she won't react to anything until she pulls herself together, why is she shocked though. Diamond never had out and out telepathy but he got pretty darn close when he had his core. Those powers were now Steven's and he'd evolved his own versions of them thanks to unique circumstances but Topaz's were far stronger and voluntary.

"Steven, if we're gonna sort her out we need to refu-MOVE!" Diamond throw steven into a recovering Lapis' arms before grabbing Jasper and leaping away as several weak energy blast rained down on them. They'd caught them nearly unaware if his guardian sense hadn't detected danger to the people around him. Suddenly it flared again, Diamond felt it before he 'saw' it, several energy blast whizzed past them before heading straight for where he'd left the other gems. "MOVE!" His warning was well heard but the gems couldn't trying to retreat would leave their backs open and because of where they were there was no place to use as cover. The only option was to weather the storm, it was a lethal outcome, Garnet was the best her future vision letting her minimize hits but she was pinned down. Pearl spun her spear to block them but the attacks increased and seemed to random. Amethyst was flicking her whips out and flicking them like no tomorrow as Peridot hid behind her. Even the ones that got through were barely doing damage but Diamond recalled a serious phase an old human had taught him. It's not a single hornet that kills, it's the swarm.

Even weak the sheer number eventually overwhelmed pearl who didn't have the durability to handle several strikes to the legs and fell just as the last few hit knocking her down. "Look out!" Amethyst smacked away a blast headed straight for Pearl's gem before peridot behind her fell back knocked down by a seemingly invisible attack. There was a hollowed boom behind them where a blast, the only one with any real power to it, had met the ground after hitting its target. Amethyst looked down at her gem before instantly giant cracks formed and split it into several pieces. A faint break was heard behind as a slightly big piece of Peridot's fell too, only slightly grazed but damaged as well. Diamond swore to all that had been made that he didn't have a heart but he sure felt something stop in his chest. Steven did have a heart and the shock actually stopped it from beating for a second as Amethyst body simply vanished no poof or glitch just gone.

Peridot however was glitching and convulsing as she tried to fight back the rising threat of death. "NO!" Steven jumped from Lapis' arms as Jasper seemed to finally respond to something, she too got up and ran over to Peridot. 'No, no, no. Not another one.' Jasper couldn't let this happen not losing the person who'd shown her any level of kindness even for the most roundabout way. She and Peridot were not friends but in a long time she was the closest thing to one, and now she might disappear like onyx. "AHHRSFEESXAAA!" Diamond let out a distorted shout as he grabbed Peridot's gem piece and looked at Jasper. "Hold her stil for a moment." Jasper did as told which was hard with a glitching gem, it was like trying to grip something made of putty and covered in oil. Diamond didn't stagger as fear and hopefulness fuelled him as he pressed the two pieces back to together before adding a blue shard to the mix, Jasper noted that the ten star only had nine as a glow appeared. It stopped a few seconds later and Peridot was stable. "You s-s-saved me?!" Diamond smiled down at her.

"of course I did, you're a gem and precursors protect gems, we're caretakers." He pulled her close pulsing out his magic to try and melt her anxiety but it only partly worked Peridot was still shivering with fear. Jasper felt something that moment, felt it shiver and erupt, a glow enveloped her and she felt more power like her spin attack but different more flowing but no less raging. "He'll pay for this." Amazingly Pearl and Jasper were of one mind in that moment before both got up and rushed off to where Fake Diamond had been cratered. Garnet released a roar of rage before charging after them. Lapis seemed calm at first but them the water that had drained away a while ago seemed to surge back to form water wings and she was off as well leaving a weakened old man, two sobbing children, and a shattered Gemstone.

I actually feel bad for several things that happened in this chapter Topaz got stabbed through the heart, Steven nearly drowned, Jasper went catatonic when something was revealed to her that shocked to her core, peridot nearly got shattered, amethyst was shattered (trust me she'll get better), Steven watched a friend die, pearl has to live with the idea that amethyst saved her at the cost of her own life and Garnet couldn't see that coming (which is honestly why Fake Topaz fired so many shots to create as many outcomes as possible to throw off Garnet's future vision) amethyst won't stay shattered as I've already hinted but believe me I have something worse than this planned.
