The pain would not subside, the hellfire burned his soul, the black ice left a never ending abyssal chill that froze his will. What hurt most was the invasive presence he felt within his mind.
A foreign, but familiar entity tore its way through his mind, desecrating the last sanctuary that Elias had known. Chaos left the mental torment for last, to savior every bit of revenge. Soon, his thoughts became clouded, his reason stripped from him and his will stripped from him.
Now, Elias was no longer human. Chaos had finally finished his Magnum Opus. Chaos had created Grimm, bestowed demonic powers unto humans, but never created a Grimm from the body of a human. Elias had become, what Chaos called, The Absolute Demon. Chaos now held his creation in the palm of its hand.
" What are you?" Chaos questioned. His creation bent its knee, bowing to its master.
" I am Ravager, the Absolute Demon. I live to serve you, my master Chaos. I live to serve you, master. I was created for nothing more than to serve you, to kill for you, and if it's required of me, I shall die for you."
Chaos nodded its head and watched as Ravager dissipated into a black mist and joined back with Chaos's own body. Now, Chaos waited patiently, already feeling its power growing as the eclipse drew near.
Orion awoke to Yang holding a freshly made cup of coffee over him. He smiled lightly and happily accepted it from her.
" Well you're sure in a good mood. Good dream ?"
Orion shook his head as he took a sip from his coffee. The taste always lingered on his tongue whenever Yang made it.
" Nothing in particular. I'm always happy when you're around, Yang."
" Flattery might get you somewhere" Yang teased as she turned to leave, only to feel a playful tug at her waist. Before she knew it, Orion had pulled her into bed and they playfully wrestled until Yang pinned him down by his arms and legs.
She turned to see a clock hanging on her wall and smiled.
They had a few hours to themselves before either of them had to be anywhere in particular.
Finally outside of Vale, Orion walked through the ruins of Fort Glenn, the destruction resonating within him. Ever since he had once merged with Chaos, he could feel the Grimm presence. Though it was subtle, he sensed it was there.
He felt the Beowulf pack before he heard them, but he felt something even sinister. As the Eclipse drew closer, he had begun to sense even more darkness radiating from the world, yet this was something different.
He took to the sky, flying for what felt like hours, and it truly was. He descended the depth of a ravine, one that he didn't recall seeing on any map. Fire became flesh as he returned to normal and began to explore. He traveled deeper into the ravine, finding a deep cave at the lowest depths.
He began to draw his sword slowly, sensing a dark presence that rivaled that of Chaos. A giant, hateful red eye loomed over him. He swore under his breath as the beast spoke.
" So you were the only being brave enough to face me, human. Was it curiosity, bravery, or a mixture of both ? I sense a... familiar presence within you... Aw, now I remember, you are a descendant of the Flamesongs."
" What do you mean by you remember ?" Orion questioned the beast, all sense of hostility replaced by curiosity.
" How long have I slept, I wonder. Tell me, has Elias gone to confront... I see, I can sense the Angels. It appears that they have been released from bondage, and I sense that the Eclipse has almost occurred. As for your question, here is your answer. When I first massacred humans, your ancestors, the Flamesongs, attempted to bind me to their will. Me, the Black Dragon of the Eclipse, Obliteration. I am like Chaos, I am from a separate world, a neighboring realm."
" If that's the case, why didn't you fight with Chaos against Elias ?"
" I am not of these Grimm, the petty creations of Chaos. I am my own being, and among the most powerful of my kind. I do as I please and I chose to ignore. I am my own master, but I acknowledge strength when I see it. Your ancestors failed to control me, Chaos knows my strength and even the Angels quiver at my presence. Why fight, when nothing can challenge me ? I passed the time, I secluded myself and slept, longer than I believed, but I slept. Now it seems, that this generation has surpassed the old."
Obliteration rose, causing a massive tremor that shook the ravine. Orion felt a small chill down his spine as the massive black dragon loomed over him.
" I am my own master, I bow to no one. Yet, your brave ancestors attempted to face me and bind me. I will not submit to weakness, but I acknowledge strength. Defeat me, if you can."
Orion merely listened with wide-open eyes and slowly backed away.
" Pity, I believed that you would fight me. I sense the presence of both Chaos and the Angels upon you. You, the only being I know of aside from Elias to have been touched by them both. Yet, you fear me."
Orion turned his back to Obliteration and took several steps forwards. Obliteration shook its massive head and was prepared to slumber once more. Only, Orion vanished in the blink of an eye and reappeared on the top of the dragon's head.
A glistening silver chain wrapped itself around Obliteration's neck, impossibly restrained the massive beast.
" Your kind really do talk to much" Orion taunted as Obliteration attempted to shake him off. " You had a point, that I had a few gifts from the Angels. Let me show you how they work !"
A fire lit inside Obliteration, a deep feeling he had experienced in years. It was the sense of battle, the feeling of fighting a foe.
It longed for a worthy foe, and fate had answered its call Fate had brought him Orion. The black dragon let out a toothy grin as it roared in both anger and excitement.
" COME HUMAN ! LET US SEE WHO TRIUMPHS !" Obliteration bellowed as it rammed its head into the cave's ceiling, bashing Orion around against the old stone. Orion held onto the imbued chain even tighter and began to draw Muramasa.
Obliteration rammed Orion against the ceiling again, this time forcing Orion to drop his sword. Orion swore silently as he balled his free hand into a fist, an intense blue flame giving the dark cave light.
" Inferno."
Obliteration was momentarily stunned at the word before the bright blue fire vanished in an instant. It then a felt a small tickle on the top of its scaly head. Orion's fist was nothing more than a mere annoyance, and Obliteration made made the fact known.
" Is that all you possess, Flamesong ?!"
Orion smirked, causing Obliteration to look beneath itself. A massive flaming glyph formed, heralded by brilliant blue flames that formed a ring of fire around the dragon.
In an instant, the flames roared to life and enveloped both Obliteration and Orion. A massive cyclone of flames bombarded the duo, but only damaged Obliteration. The Novafire seared the stone, and began to rend the dragon's scales.
Obliteration attempted to devour the brilliant blue flames, but found that they only heeded their master, Orion. Still, Obliteration was not a demon to be trifled with.
It gathered fire in it's own maw and focused. It released an immense torrent of pure, ethereal fire that dispersed Orion's own flames. Orion's lapse in focus during moment allowed Obliteration to shake him off and batter him aside.
It rose its massive foot and prepared to crush Orion, only feel a deep pain run along the same foot. Obliteration recoiled in pain, and watched as Orion flurried Muramasa.
The formerly red blade now gleamed with a radiant golden color. Obliteration looked at the blade deeply, as if lost in thought.
" Cosmic Force on two mere human weapons ? You truly are unique, Flamesong. I acknowledge your strength and recognize your power." Obliteration said, almost humbly. It lowered its head so it's eyes were level with Orion. " Do know, I can kill you in the blink of an eye, but you interest me deeply. I shall heed your commands, so long as you continue to prove yourself. Do you intend to face Chaos ?'
" I intend to send to send it back to whatever hellhole it came from."
" How quaint, Flamesong. Your ancestors were powerful for their time, but you have thoroughly continued to impress me. Possessing two blessed weapons, wounding me and being able to stand against me after my deep slumber. I say again, I acknowledge your power."
Obliteration began to change from a frightening black dragon into a dense thick miasma, resembling Chaos.
" You look A LOT like Chaos." Orion stated.
" We powerful demons can take whatever form we choose." Obliteration said as it changed again, this time into a small black falcon with piercing red eyes. It perched itself on Orion's shoulder, making it's previous statement almost comical.
" You're more than capable of killing me, but you're willingly going to listen to me because I got a lucky cut on you ? "
" That 'lucky cut' was the only wound I've been dealt in a long time. The fact that a mere human can wield weapons imbued with angelic power speaks volumes about you. Chaos values strength, but I value potential more than anything. Seeing those weapons, and having a test of strength showed me that you might surpass both Chaos and I, in time. I intend to be the first challenge you face, if that time arrives."
Orion simply shook his and sighed as he sheathed Muramasa on his side. His chain wrapped itself around his arm, resting easily as he emerged from Obliteration's cave. Obliteration descended from Orion's shoulder, hopping down to the ground and growing in size. It lowered its head, and offered a ride to Orion.
" I'm good, but since you'll do what I say, I want you to remain hidden until I summon you."
" Understood, Flamesong."
Orion watched as Obliteration shrunk back to the size of a normal raven and flew off into the distance. Orion smirked to himself as he likewise took to the sky in the form of a phoenix and flew away. Though he wasn't returning directly to Vale, he wanted to settle some things first.
Ruby looked down at her mother's grave, smiling with a mixture of sadness and joy. She stood there silently for what felt like an eternity until she heard the fluttering of heavy wings heralded by a deep feeling of warmth. It didn't take a genius to figure out who was behind her.
" Why are you here, Orion ?" Ruby asked, a slight anger seething through her lips. Orion stopped a good dozen steps behind her, thinking of his next words carefully.
" I wanted to talk to you, Rose."
" About what ?! What, do you want my blessing to marry my sister now ?! " Ruby snapped, shocking Orion slightly. Orion kept silent longer than he should have. " Oh...my...god !"
" In my defense, I haven't asked her yet and that's also not the reason I came here. However, since that cat is out of bag, can I maybe, probably get your blessing while I'm here ? "
" Piss off." Ruby said harshly. Orion sighed as he remembered what he came for to being with.
" Alright, I deserved that and a lot more honestly, but that can come later. I wanted to ask you something else."
" And what would that be, Orion ?"
" I was...kinda, maybe hoping you and I could see eye-to-eye. I wanted to apologize, mainly for being a massive psycho in the past. I know words alone won't prove anything, so I tell me what I have to do to earn your trust."
" You just don't get it, Orion. It's not about me trusting you, you and Yang being love, or anything of the sort. What it comes down to is that I can't forgive you, and I certainly can't forget what you did."
Seeing that Ruby wasn't going to change her mind, Orion merely sighed, and nodded in a sense of understanding.
" I don't suppose you'll be heading back Vale anytime soon ?" Orion asked Ruby, who sighed in annoyance. He had a way of bringing out the worst in people, especially her.
" Please just go away."
" Alright, I got the message."
Heeding her wishes, Orion had left Ruby alone. He occupied his time by partaking in his favorite past time: combat. Some habits never died, but they came to under a better sense of control. He didn't have the same degree of a lust for combat like he had before, but it was still there, like an itch that he couldn't help but scratch.
He allowed himself to be swept up in the tide of battle, fending of roaming packs of Grimm. Beowolves, Ursa, and even the occasional Nevermore fell prey to Muramasa's blessed blade and his chain's holy brilliance. When he finally cleaved the last Beowulf in two, he took a while to rest and gather his bearings.
The sun was beginning set, even as a raven landed on his shoulder. He knew immediately who it was.
" Well done, Flamesong, though not much to scoff at. Fighting 'til the sun has set is an admirable milestone for a mere human. I must tell you, you're style of fighting here was very different from when I tested your strength." Obliteration said, while eyeing the bodies of slain Grimm.
" Someone once told me that fighting is more than just winning, but that it's an escape. There's a time to cut lose and there's also a time to focus and fight with a strategy, something I never did. Hey, I got a question for you. After everything with Chaos is squared away, what do you plan on doing afterwards ? "
" I've told you before, I find your potential interesting. I shall continue to watch and see how you progress. Be warned, should I become dissatisfied with you, I can and will annihilate you, and this world. I am Obliteration, the Black Dragon of The End, The Black Wings of Terror and The King of Darkness."
" Good to know, Obliteration." Orion said, partly with laughter because of the situation he created for himself.
Sun and Neptune arrived, but only found carnage in their path. What had once remained of a nomadic tribe on the outskirts of Vale was nothing but a shadow of what had once been. Torn clothing, the scent of blood and severed limbs stained the area, but strangely no whole bodies had been found.
Sun watched intently, trying to find a reasonable explanation, though not to the carnage. He was trying to ascertain where the bodies of the victims had gone. Though Grimm were capable of devouring humans, they had no real reason to, aside from doing it because they could. That wasn't the case, the carnage was too..mellow. It was too clean, meaning the bodies were taken, but that was too strange.
Grimm devoured, not transported. Yet, the evidence was right before them. Sun and Neptune wondered deeply.
Where had the Grimm taken the bodies ?
With that question tugging their minds, they made their back to Vale, hopefully to find answers.
The answer to Sun and Neptune's question could be answered where Chaos was sealed. The Grimm of Chaos had been working to bring their master back.
An angelic seal can be broken by desecrating the holy ground where the seal was placed. That meant that the souls and bodies of those slain by Grimm can be scattered throughout the area.
Corpses, a dozens upon dozens of innocents had been scattered. Limbs hung from trees, and what remained of bodies were strewn about everywhere. The scene was naught but a valley of death. At the center was the shrine where Chaos was imprisoned within the Book of Oblivion, every shattering as Chaos forced itself out. Though the desecration gave it more power, Chaos knew that it would take the Eclipse to fully break the seal, yet it was broken enough to send the Absolute Demon and many of his kind to prepare the world.
Ravager wormed its way out, black wings casting a shadow over the fields of death and carnage. All Grimm lowered their heads, acknowledging their superior, their master's most powerful.
" Hear me ! Our master Chaos's long awaited desire will soon be realized ! We shall rule this world, but first our master desires the destruction of the remaining angels that interfered with his dreams so long ago ! We Grimm shall crush them underfoot, with talon, claw, teeth and roars ! For Chaos !"
The Grimm present resounded with in a demonic cacophony of roars, screeches and squeals of mad hunger. Ravager stood on the back of an Alpha Nevermore, and extended an open hand, releasing a tidal wave of shadows. What was born from that void were several lesser demons like him, baser clones that would obey only him and Chaos. They lacked intelligence, but were more than powerful to make up for it.
The Alpha Nevermore took off into the sky, followed the largest Grimm horde that had ever been seen since the days of old.
Orion and Obliteration walked and flew, respectively, in silence back to Vale until Obliteration stopped and turned its head back.
" So that is your goal Chaos, interesting."
" Something happened ?!" Orion asked urgently, golden wings of flames beginning to form. Obliteration changed from a bird, to a massive clawed hand that grabbed Orion and cocked itself back.
" Join the fray, Flamesong ! Show Chaos your power ! "
Orion was too confused to respond and didn't realize what was happening. The next thing he knew, Obliteration had thrown him with enough force to break the sound barrier several times over, sending him flying like a rocket. Orion couldn't make out what was happening, so he covered himself in golden flames and braced himself what ever might happen.
He managed to compose him, changing from human to phoenix and took control of his speed. He forced himself upright, and realized that he was hovering over Vale, but what took up his attention was the massive black horde, merely hours away from Vale.
Obliteration has a hell of arm to throw me this far, Orion thought to himself, a small grateful smile appearing across his face as he changed back to human form, but hovered thanks to his flames. Next to him, three golden portals opened, an all three angels exited, garbed in radiant armor.
" I knew I felt something happening, this is all my fault." Serana stated, a hint of regret in her words. " Chaos must have been forcing the seal to weaken and sent a demon of his own personal creation. That demon is..."
" Elias," Orion said. " I can... I guess sense that it's him. You three get back into Vale, I'll deal with this."
" Impossible !" Nuri objected. " No human, no matter how powerful could hope to face a demon of that caliber, along with that kind of army and hope to live !"
" Nuri !" Amira yelled, " Now is not the time ! We are obligated to defend those that can't defend themselves, and it is more than likely that Elias, or what remains of him, is here for us. "
Nuri bit her lip, and remained silent as she exited through the same portal she came from. Serana gave Orion a quick nod and walked exited as well.
" Orion, I advise you to be cautious. What remains of Elias's humanity is gone. Please, end his suffering and release him." Amira requested kindly as she too exited.
Orion descended to the ground, Muramasa resting on his shoulder as he stood in front of the horde, alone. They all stopped in their tracks at the sight of Orion. Muramasa began to glow with a radiant light as Ravager descended to the ground, along with several of the lesser demons he had created.
The rest of the horde moved past Orion and Ravager, continuing their advance towards Vale. Explosions ran through the horde, yet it was only enough to slow them down. They continued onward, but were met with heavy fire from Vale's defenses. Nevermores fell from the sky and crashed into the Grimm below. Goliaths continued onward, taking the forefront of the charge.
Orion merely looked behind him, whistling a tune before turning his attention back to Ravager. Radiant blue flames fell from the sky like comets, crashing down and destroying much of the Grimm's advance, though there was more than enough of them to pose a massive threat to Vale.
" Didn't do as much damage as I'd have liked, but oh well. For all that talk, you only became one of Chaos's minions. So much for the big bad, Arc."
" Elias Arc is no longer alive. I am Ravager, the Absolute Demon and-"
" I could really give two fucks less about your tiresome titles. You brought that horde to Vale, and I can guarantee you that if so much as a single drop of blood human blood is spilled, you're going to wish Chaos had killed you back then."
Ravager's eyes furrowed, and he growled lowly. A black blade manifested in his right hand. Orion recognized it as the sword Elias used from years ago. Orion pointed his own at Ravager, the golden light shocking Ravager momentarily.
" The angels have blessed your blade... Truly, they must be desperate."
" No, they just recognize that giving me a little power buff was a good idea considering what you and your master are. So, Ravager, hope you don't mind if I take your blade as a trophy, it'll add to my collection nicely."
Orion took off with a burst of speed, aiming his blessed blade at Ravager's neck. The blow couldn't have been blocked, as Orion was too fast for even the enhanced Ravager to keep up with. All that was left were after images of where Orion once was.
A deep gash appeared across Ravager's back, earning a roar of pain as Muramasa gleamed in enjoyment. Orion reappeared in front of Ravager, gripping Muramasa with two hands and plunged the blade through Ravager's chest. Instead of dropping dead on the spot, Ravager threw his own blade aside ,and gripped Orion's arm with inhuman strength, holding him in place despite Orion's resistance.
Orion watched as Ravager changed. Massive horns protruded from his forehead, he grew massive in size until he towered above Orion, having become behemoth like demon. Orion sighed and swore silently as Ravager growled lowly.
" Your speed is notable, but I was crafted and perfected by my master. I will not be undone by a mere blessed blade such as yours !"
Nearly twelve feet tall, Ravager loomed over Orion, who sighed as he brace himself for what was about to happen. Ravager grabbed Orion by his neck, attempting to choke the life out of him.
In defiance, blue flames appeared around Orion's freehand, growing more intense by the second. Ravager hoisted Orion into the air, still choking him, and roared in rage. Orion grabbed Muramasa, and forced the blue flames into the blade, though it did nothing to Ravager.
Orion then watched as Ravager's muscles protruded, tightening as he struck Orion square in the chest, knocking both air and blood out of him. Ravager's wings extended to their full length and he took off into the air after Orion.
A gear shifted in Orion's mind. He narrowly weaved Ravager's open hands and grabbed Muramasa, refusing to let go despite the flurry of punches Ravager delivered.
Orion threw his chain, commanding it, and forcing it to wrap around Ravager's neck. Orion now maneuvered himself onto Ravager's back, restraining the demon with his chain, attempting to strangle the demon. Ravager angrily clawed at Orion, but couldn't reach him.
The chain ignited, becoming bathed in angelic holy fire. Ravager roared in pain, the flames beginning to consume the demon. Orion held on even tighter with one hand, and held an open hand to the sky, letting the sun's rays bare down onto it.
Orion's entire arm went up in intense blue flames that all gathered in the palm of his hand. The flames changed from blue to the same white color as the flames that covered his chain. Orion smiled darkly, and Ravager felt true dread for the first time in his existence.
Orion's fist came down, striking Ravager directly in his head, and smiled the flames came to life at the sound of a single word.
" Inferno," Orion commanded, causing the flames to vanish for a second. They reappeared in force as they enveloped both Orion and Ravager. Ravager howled in agony as the flames grew more intense by the second.
" You should have stayed dead, Elias !"
The Grimm were met with resistance by Vale's defenders, with Jaune and Sun at the vanguard of the defense. Jaune coordinated everyone, mounting a proper and steadfast defense that slowly, but surely began to push the Grimm back.
Suddenly, all the fighting ceased as what could only be described as a falling star crashed directly into the battlefield. White flames erupted, incinerating any Grimm that was unlucky enough to be caught in the blast radius. From the flames, Orion emerged, Muramasa resting on his shoulder and his chain wrapped around his wrist.
Ravager moaned in pain, the angelic flames burning his very soul to the core as Orion walked by him without care. The Grimm slowly backed away from Orion, none wanting to incur his wrath, save for a large Goliath that attempted to trample him. Orion felled the beast with a single swing of his sword, severing the creature in two.
Ravager's personal minions ran to their master, each taking a form similar to Ravager's. They looked nearly identical, but only Ravager's sheer size set him apart from the rest. That and his charred body.
Ravager forced himself to his feet, surprising everyone present as he roared in defiance. They all watched as his wounds slowly, but surely healed, miraculously. Orion sighed in annoyance as all of Vale defends, along with Jaune and Sun stood alongside him.
" It's never easy with their kind," Orion said with annoyance. Jaune sighed as he took of his suit, revealing a tight black t-shirt, adorned with several throwing knives.
" Of course not, but that just means we stay in shape." Sun said jokingly as he placed his staff on his shoulders. He and Orion both cracked their necks in unison and stared down Ravager and his army.
" I'll take the big guy, you two clowns can take the fodder." Sun said plainly.
" Not if I take his head first." Orion argued, eye-balling Sun with a look of annoyance.
" You two can go compete for it, but I'll just deal with whatever's left." Jaune said tiredly. " Jeez, the paperwork and meetings is gonna kill me before Chaos does."
" So Sun, how about we settle our issues later, after this is all squared away." Orion said, allowing parts of his old-self to resurface. Sun smirked in agreement as he, Orion, Jaune and Vale's defenders charged Ravager and his army.
