They're terrible for each other. They really are. She's a slob and he's a neat freak (well, kinda. She had to get onto him after Thapa. He needed it though. She's pretty sure he's greatful). He cares about their health and he wants to save the planet, and she's more like, whatever. He loves it when she's soft and maybe she is a little soft, but at the same time, her world has hardened her.
She loves him. She does. She's not at all saying she doesn't. But she has to wonder if she's right for him.
She knows if they were to break up, they would both be a complete mess. She's to the point where she needs him. She knows it too. She needs him to be happy and okay. She just does. She imagines he feels the same way, based on their more frequent communications.
She just doesn't know how to be enough for him. And she has to be, because they may be terrible for each other, but they aren't ever going to be good for anyone else.
He could tell she was thinking too hard about something. His arms were wrapped around her and she was leaning into his chest. She was looking at the TV but she wasn't actually watching it.
"Whatcha thinking about?" He asked her in such a way that made her feel like she could say anything and he'd be content with her answer.
"You," she said.
"What about me?"
"Do you understand your worth, Deeks?"
He paused. What was she getting at here?
"Because I don't think you do. We kind of suck at being a couple, if you haven't noticed. And you haven't asked for anything more from me. You've thrown love around a few times, but I've never told you I love you. Which is ridiculous, because I do love you Deeks. I love you so much. Do you not think you deserve that? You deserve someone who isn't afraid to spontaneously tell you that."
It was a lot to take in. His heart raced and he couldn't breathe. Kensi Blye loved him.
"Kensi…"
"I just think you need more than what I'm giving you. And you never ask for more, and then I never know. And that terrifies me."
He pressed his lips to the pulse point of her neck. He moans a weak "Kens," into her skin. But she still pulls away.
"I want to be what you need. You tell me I'm perfect, but this isn't just about us physically anymore. Its about emotionally. I'm not being that for you right now. Please, tell me." Her eyes are practically begging him. She needs him to tell her.
He doesn't want to. He almost doesn't need to. The one thing he needed to hear came off of her beautiful as the sun lips just moments ago. He just wants to kiss her. He tries again, but he's met with the same difficulties as before.
He can sense that she's getting frustrated. Partially because she's being vulnerable and all he's doing is trying to kiss her, and partially because she wants to kiss back.
It's almost harder for him to say. "I just need you to love me. That's all. Can you do that? Please, Kens. That's all I need. "
That can't possibly be all he needs, but he doesn't quit talking. He adds nothing new, but yet, he keeps talking.
"But you've already said it, that you love me. So you obviously can. So we're good? Right? You and me in love, that's like, everything. I don't need anything else…"
"Deeks," his lips take their turn at the base of his neck. She blows the words off of her lips again, letting them crash against his sensitive skin. "I love you." She floats up to his jaw and whispers it again, and then drifts to his ear. "Let me say it again. I love you."
His eyes are dark. She tries to read what he's thinking, but she just can't. She adds, "and I'll try to remind you a lot. And if I don't say it enough, tell me to say it more. That's okay to do, alright?"
He nods. He's not sure if he can ever ask her to love him again. It was hard, the neediness felt wrong and off. But he knows he doesn't have to ask her to love him. Everything physical in their relationship is coming from that emotion. He knows that. He was so moved by her admissions. The way she said love hummed in his eardrums. He can still faintly hear the whisper. And he knows it's his turn to speak.
"Kens?" She looks at him, so he continues. "You've always been enough for me. You will always be enough for me."
It's almost as if she blushes, but she looks at him with a relieved smile. He just wants to kiss her freaking senseless.
Wrapping his fingers through her hair, she giggles. He pulls her face to his lips and crashes against her, muffling the sweetest words into her mouth.
"I love you too."
