Something lulls her out of her gentle sleep. She reaches across the bed for her husband, but her hand finds cold and empty sheets. She sits up, rubbing her eyes. She hears the low sound that slowly woke her from her slumber.

She follows the sound of the humming until she's outside of the nursery, the tune recognizable now.

You are my sunshine, my only sunshine.

She peeks her head in the room. Deeks is leaning over the edge of the crib, staring down at their sleeping daughter. He's not singing or making any other noise, just humming.

You make me happy, when skies are grey.

She isn't sure what she's watching. His sweatpants lay low on his hips. His hands grip the crib tightly, and it seems as if his hums are a struggle.

You'll never know dear, how much I love you.

Sensing that something was wrong, she steps across the room until her hands are placed on top of his. She presses herself against his back, resting her lips by his ear. His sweet song slows to a stop.

Please don't take my sunshine away.

"What's the matter?" she whispered.

His voice cracked, "Just a bad dream."

"Wanna talk about it?" He shook his head.

She tried again. "You wanna hold her instead of just staring at her?"

"That um, was kind of um, part of the dream."

Oh. And it sinks in.

Of course that hell of a world he's created in his head would create a 'you are your abusive father' dream. And of course, he'd let himself believe he could actually hurt their baby girl.

"Deeks," she begins, but she just doesn't have the words. His eyes stay focused on his daughter, and she watches as a single tear slips down his cheek.

"I could never do anything like that to her, Kensi."

She traces up his arms and surround his big chest. She squeezes tightly. "I know."

"She's so, she's so perfect," he trembles, "and beautiful. And it just…"

"It scared you?"

"Yeah."

She smiles against his jaw. "It doesn't scare me. You're so good to me, you're so amazing with her. You would never in a million years do anything to hurt either of us. Because you my love, love us more than you love anything else on this planet. And no one is going to take your sunshine away."

He chuckles a little. "Since when do you call me 'my love'?"

"Since you started talking crazy."

"Touche."

She presses a kiss into his earlobe. "Now you pick her up and lets go cuddle."

He hesitates, but she's insistent. She doesn't stop until he's holding the sleeping infant close to his chest and they're settled on the couch. The silence is heavy as she drapes herself over his shoulders again, but its what he needs.

He presses his lips to the little one's forehead.

"I love you baby girl."

Nothing is going to take their sunshine away.

A/n: So anon Tumblr prompt. This was a little bit of a challenge. It doesn't fit with the Max and Callie thing, and I didn't actually name their baby... until halfway through. But it stayed in my head. Aurora was the name I came up with, Aurora as in dawn, when sunshine appears. I should update Dollface sometime this weekend (it's like half done), but if it interests you, I think some other little baby drabbles could be fun. If you have ideas, you know where to find me. Thanks loves!
