Acca-believe It
Things have been going pretty smoothly around here, if you don't count that my aunt Kate and Uncle Rick are still sneaking around with each other because of the whole Loksat thing. Speaking of the two sneaking around, my aunt came home for lunch today, and that was about an hour and half ago. They haven't left the bedroom since she got here, so gross. At least they're back together, and I can't hear anything from my bedroom, so it doesn't really bother me too much.
I decided to head downstairs, because I needed some help with my schoolwork and I was getting tired of being cooped up in my room. I was hoping they were done with their, "shenanigans", so I could get the help that I needed for this question. I walked up to Castle's bedroom door, knocking on it a few times, and said, "Are you two done yet? I need help…"
The door opened and revealed my aunt Kate dressed and ready to go. She looked at me with confusion and asked, "What is it? Are you okay?"
"Yeah, I'm just stuck on this math question… Beverly wants to rent a truck for one day. She contacted two companies. Macaroon's Truck Rentals charges $20 plus $2 per mile. Alfie's Truck Rentals charges $3 per mile. After how many miles will the total cost for both companies be the same?"
"Uh… I'd love to help you Em, but I have a meeting with Captain Gates at 1PP. Ask Castle."
She kissed my head, before she walked past me, and to the front door. I walked into Castle's room and asked, "Can you help me with this question, Castle?"
"I'll try," he started to say before he was cut off by his phone ringing.
A picture of Mrs. Rodgers popped up on his screen, and he answered it, "Mother. How's your day going?"
His eyebrows rose and furrowed, as he listened to his mother speak on the other end. He sighed and said, "It's all right Mother. I'll be right down, okay? Okay, Bye…"
He hung up and I asked, "What's wrong?"
"They discovered a dead body at her rehearsals today," he answered.
"Whoa, a dead body… sweet," I said with a smile.
Castle gave me a pointed look and I said, "I mean that's awful… Terrible. Is she okay?"
"She's dead…"
"Not the body, your mother."
"Oh, she sounds a little shaken up, but I'm going to go down and make sure she's okay."
"I'll go with."
"You just want to see the body."
I placed a hand over my chest, feigning hurt, and said "I care about your mother. I want to know how she's doing as well."
He chuckled and said, "I know… I'm sure everything will be okay once the 12th gets to the bottom of it."
"Yep, I'm sure. So, let's go Uncle Rick."
"Em… I kind of need to get dressed."
"Oh, right… I'll just be out in the living room. See you in a bit."
I walked out of Castle's room quickly and waited for him to get dressed, so we could go comfort his mother, and see what this case was all about.
We arrived at the theater that Mrs. Rodgers was rehearsing at, and as we walked onto the stage, we found Alexis comforting her, while Ryan and Lanie looked over the body.
"Mother!" he called out to her.
She stood up from where she was seated with Alexis, to give her son a hug, and said, "Oh! Richard, darling. Thank God you're here."
"We came as soon as we could. Are you all right?"
"Yeah. Don't worry about me. It's poor, sweet Robyn that we should be thinking about."
"You knew her?"
"Oh, I just met her yesterday. She sat through an entire rehearsal, and then she waited around so she could come up and thank me. She was just… She was lovely. Darling, I want you to promise me that you will handle this case personally and find out who did this."
"Yeah, of course. Of course."
"Gram, why don't I take you home?" Alexis said.
"Okay. Perfect. Thank you," she said, patting our shoulders as Alexis followed behind her to leave the theater.
We walked over to Lanie and Ryan, and Castle said, "Hey."
"Hey. How's Martha?" Lanie asked.
"Uh, shaken up. What happened?"
"Victim is Robyn King, 20 years old. Works as the theater's night janitor," Ryan answered.
"Based on lividity and body temp, I estimate the time of death is last night between 9:00 and 11:00. Cause of death Blunt-force trauma," Lanie explained.
"Killer hit Robyn in the head, stuffed her in the snow box, and lifted her up to the rafter."
"Where she bled out."
Esposito made his way over with another man in tow, and said, "Yo. This is Chris Jackson. He's the theater's production manager"
Castle shook the man's hand and introduced himself, "Richard Castle. So, you're the one who hired Robyn?"
"Yes. And I was a little nervous at first. Robyn was an ex-con, but her parole officer pressed me to give her a job. Promised that she was completely trustworthy. And until last night, there hadn't been a single problem," Mr. Jackson said.
"What happened last night?" Esposito asked him.
"A woman showed up looking for Robyn, and she was pissed."
"And Robyn knew her?"
"Oh, yeah. She called her "mama." But they clearly weren't a happy family. As I was leaving, I heard Robyn threaten to call the cops if her mom ever came near her again. I shouldn't have left them alone. Robyn might still be alive if I had just stayed behind."
We headed to the precinct once we were done with the crime scene, and they started putting information and pictures, on the investigation board.
"Hey. So, here's a surprise. Robyn's records show that her mother died when she was 5," Ryan said as he made his way to his desk.
"Then who's "mama"?" Castle questioned.
"Exactly. And here's another mystery that I found According to Robyn's metrocard, she's been taking subway trips up to Spanish Harlem two nights a week ever since she was released from prison. Each time, she leaves around 11:30 P.M., stays for almost two hours before going home."
"Any indication in her financials what she's doing up there?"
"No, nothing yet."
Castles phone started ringing, and he pulled it out of his pocket, to see who it was.
"I got to take that," Castle said.
"Okay."
"Hey!" he said as he answered his phone, walking away so he was out of earshot.
"So, how's Jenny and Sarah-Grace doing?" I asked Ryan.
"Um, fine… Why?" he said.
"Just making small talk."
"Got it. But they are doing fine, just waiting for the baby to come."
"Are you excited?"
"Well, yes and no… I can't wait to have the baby, but on the other hand…"
"You're not ready to handle the stress of having another baby in the house, and raising two kids, while working the job you have, not sure if you'll have the money to provide for your family."
Ryan just stared at me blankly before he said, "Yes… That's one way of putting it."
"Don't worry we're all here for you."
"Thanks…"
The elevator doors opened, and aunt Kate's voice boomed through the precinct, "Castle! We talked about this! You can't be here!"
"Well, excuse me for living, but I've got a damn good reason," Castle said.
"I don't care what your reason is. You can't just waltz in and out of my precinct whenever you want."
"Uh, my mother was traumatized, Captain. I'm involved in this case, whether you like it or not."
"Fine. But you're on a short leash," she said to him before making her way over to Ryan and me.
"Oh, I'll decide how short my leash is."
Esposito came over and said, "Yo. Just got off the phone with Robyn's parole officer. Look who I found Robyn's mama. Olivia "mama" Toussaint. She's a mid-level dealer who sells party drugs to rich kids. Robyn was part of her crew two years ago when she got busted."
"What was Robyn arrested for?" Aunt Kate asked.
"Uh, grand theft auto, reckless endangerment, destruction of private property," Ryan said as he looked at her records.
"Robyn made a delivery to a country club on Long Island, decided to stay for the party. She got wasted, stole a car, drove into a house, half a million dollars' worth of damage.
"Got her two years in Albion Correctional, too."
"So, with Robyn out on parole, mama must have gone to the theater to bring her back into the fold," Castle theorized.
"But Robyn refused and threatened to rat mama out," Aunt Kate said.
"So Mama silenced Robyn for good."
"All right, boys, bring her in."
They brought Mama in to talk to her about what happened to Robyn, but it turns out that she didn't kill her. She said her piece and then left before Robyn even died. Apparently, Robyn had something big coming up with the new crew she was running with, but now the question is, what were they planning? Castle walked into the break room, where I was hanging with my aunt Kate, who was currently making herself a cup of coffee.
"Hey," he said.
"Hey. How'd it go with mama?" My aunt asked him.
"Oh, her, uh, alibi checks out. She was in a cab by 8:15. And it looks as though Robyn was working with a new crew."
"Uh, I had a really great time earlier," she whispered to him
"Me too," he whispered back.
"Is it wrong that I want to kiss you right now?"
"So wrong, it's right."
"I'm sorry."
"For what?"
Aunt Kate slapped Castle across the face, and my jaw dropped in surprise. I knew she was making a scene because they can't technically be seen together romantically, but it was sure a shocking moment to witness.
"You're a jerk!" She yelled at him, before she stormed off to her office.
"Hey, bro, you okay?" Esposito asked, as he and Ryan looked at Castle with the same shocked face as me.
"Yeah. No… Ow! Man, she hits hard," Castle whined while holding his cheek.
"Look, Castle, it's clearly not okay, you being here," Ryan said.
"Yeah, you better go home. We'll call you if we find anything," Esposito said before the two of them walked off.
"Come on Emily," he said, as he made his way out of the break room, and went to grab his jacket by Ryan's desk.
Robyn's phone started buzzing in the evidence box, and Castle took out his phone to snap a picture of her screen. He started walking away, after taking his sneaky pictures, and I said, "Really, Castle?"
"I want to get to the bottom of this case, for mother," he said.
"Yeah, sure…"
"Do you know what this means?" he asked me when we were in the elevator, showing me the text message he took a picture of.
I looked at all the emojis on the message, and said, "Sorry Castle, I know a few sequences of emojis, but this one is way too cryptic for me."
"What are some of the emoji sequences that you know?"
"I'd rather not say," I said as I walked off the elevator.
"Wait? Em, what emojis do you know?"
We decided to head to Castle's PI office, and see if we could decrypt the text message Robyn receive. When we walked in, we found Alexis and Mrs. Rodgers using the cigar bubble blowers that Castle had bought.
"Mother, what are you doing here? You should be at home, resting," Castle said.
"Please, how can I possibly rest? There's a murderer to catch," she said to her son.
"Listen, I have to warn you, we found evidence that Robyn may have returned to a life of crime."
"Nonsense. That girl has a good heart. I know she was trying to turn her life around. So, let's get to work. What can I do to help?"
"All right. We know that Robyn was meeting with her new crew twice a week in Spanish Harlem," he pulled up the message on the big screen, so everyone could see them, and continued, "And I think these symbols on her phone have something to do with her next meeting."
"So, what's the problem?" Alexis asked.
"I don't speak emoji."
Alexis got up from her seat to mess with the screen, and Castle said, "I think that first symbol, there, the button-y thing, is a clock, obviously."
"Uh-huh, and the hands are on 12, so Robyn's crew is meeting at noon," Mrs. Rodgers said.
"Not noon. Midnight. So that gives us less than an hour to figure this out and get uptown."
"Okay, so we have a sheep, an ear, a "d," a bull, a bag, a beach ball, and a fish on a pole," Alexis said, pointing each emoji out.
"Emojis are symbolic for other things," his mother said.
"Clearly, but symbolic for what other things?" Castle questioned.
"Well, where would you go fishing?" Alexis asked.
"Water, by the river. What does that have to do with sheep?"
"Well, emojis are often compound words. So sheep plus ear, plus "D," could mean…"
"Sheep eared. Shepherd."
"Exactly."
"And the bull?" Mrs. Rodgers asked.
"Stubborn?"
"Wall street? That's not in Spanish Harlem," Castle said.
"Bull is the astrological sign for Taurus," his mother chimed in.
"It is. Does that help us?"
"We'll put a pin in that. Next are the bag and the ball," Alexis said.
"Oh. And not just any bag. That is a shopping bag," Mrs. Rodgers said.
"An item with which you are intimately familiar," Castle said.
"So, shopping ball? No, mall. Shopping mall," Alexis said.
"Wait a minute. Midnight by the river at the Shepherd Taurus shopping mall?" Castle said as he pinned the place on the screen.
"Oh…" Mrs. Rodgers said with awe.
"Well done. Let's go," Castle said as he went to leave.
"Wait, wait. Shouldn't we call the cops?" Alexis asked her dad.
"Yeah, that's a kind of dangerous neighborhood," his mother mentioned.
"Ladies, with all the gentrification going on, there's no such thing as bad riverfront property," he said.
I decided to tag along with Castle and Alexis, where we found ourselves in an abandoned part of the shopping mall.
"Okay. Maybe I was wrong. Watch your step," Castle said as we made our way downstairs, "Maybe we should be texting Espo and Ryan."
"She already called them," I said.
"Yeah, and they're on their way," she said.
"I don't know whether to be happy or hurt by your lack of faith in me," something made a weird which made us jump, and Castle said, "Okay, I'm gonna go with happy."
"Was that a rat?"
"That's too big to be a rat."
"Great."
"Come on."
We walked down the rest of the steps and a glass clinked on the ground. We shined our flashlights around the dark place, but we could barely see a thing. A man started laughing, and I started to get a little freaked out at this situation we've found ourselves in.
"All right, that's it," Castle said as he got out his phone.
"Dad, look," she said as she pointed to a doorway made out of cloth, which had a clown's face painted on it.
"Eh… Why a clown?" I groaned out.
"It's okay… Come on Em," Castle said as he led the way.
We walked through the entryway and found ourselves staring down at groups singing with one another. The one woman was singing, Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go, while her group backed her up with the beats. Then one of her other group members took over the next part of the song, and he was actually pretty good, before the next guy with curly hair came along. I couldn't stop smiling as I watched the group perform, and then the other group they were facing, started to sing as well.
"Do you know what we just stumbled upon?" I whispered to Castle.
"No, what?" Castle asked.
"An a cappella showdown… A riff-off… It's acca-awesome…" I said, as we listened to the rest of the song.
Once the group finished, a young man got up on a stool, and asked the groups, "Are you ready for the riff-off?"
"How'd you know what this was, Em?" Castle asked me.
"I may have seen Pitch Perfect way too many times to admit," I said.
"Ah…" Castle and Alexis mumbled.
We made our way downstairs, where the groups were, and the guy said, "Category is "Blast from the past."
The guy got down, and as soon as he moved out the way, the curly haired guy, from the one group, started to sing, Hooked on a Feeling. After he sang a few lines, the girl from the other group started to sing, Tainted Love.
"Hey. She has the same bracelet that Robyn had," Castle said, pointing out one of the groups who were standing back.
"They must be waiting for Robyn to show up," Alexis said.
We walked over to the group and Alexis said, "Hi. Are you looking for Robyn?"
"Who are you?" one of the girls questioned us.
"Uh, this is Alexis, Emily, and I'm Richard Castle. We're private investigators. We're here to talk to you about Robyn," he said to the girl.
"Did something happen to her?"
Just then the NYPD showed up, and everyone started running in all different directions. Ryan and Esposito walked up to us, and Esposito asked, "Yo, Castle. Where's the 911?"
"Oh. That was…" Castle started as he tried to figure out how to explain this situation.
"Who are all these people?" Ryan asked as he shined his flashlight at everyone.
"Uh… Robyn's new family."
They interviewed some of the girls from the group, so they could get some more information about Robyn. Once we were done, we decided to head home for the night and get some shut-eye. When morning came, they happened to find information on one of the girls, Agnes, who they kicked off the team a little while ago. Castle got the okay from Aunt Kate to ride along with Ryan and Esposito, so they could go apprehend Agnes. I decided to stay behind because I had some school work to finish.
A little while later, Castle returned, and I said, "Hey… Did you find Agnes?"
"We did, and apparently, Robyn hired Agnes to be her bodyguard that night," Castle said.
"So, she new someone was after her?"
"Yeah, she said she was meeting with someone from the a cappella competition. Sadly, Agnes showed up too late."
"And Robyn was already dead."
"Exactly."
"Huh, this is one interesting case."
"Sure is."
"Hey Castle, I still need help on this math question."
"Oh right, let me…" Castle was cut off by his phone ringing.
"Seriously?" I said with a sigh.
Castle mouthed a quick sorry to me, before answering his cellphone, "Hey, Kate. Yeah, I'll be down there in a few, bye."
"Break in the case?"
"Something, like that. Want to tag along?"
"I'd love too."
We arrived at the theater that is going to hold the a cappella competition, and waited for my aunt, Ryan, and Esposito to arrive. Castle was looking through his phone as I just stood around, looking at the sights around me. A few minutes later, the three people we were waiting for showed up, and as Ryan and Esposito walked past us, they shoulder checked Castle with sharp glares in their eyes. I raised a brow and wondered what that was all about.
"Thanks for the call. I came as soon as I…" Castle started until he noticed the look my aunt was giving him, "What?"
"Svetlana?" she asked him
Who in the world is Svetlana, I wondered to myself.
"Oh. Yeah. I, uh… I was gonna tell you about that earlier, and I thought it would be better if I told you in person. So…" Castle tried to explain.
"So?" she questioned.
"So, uh, the boys… They got suspicious and accused me of cheating. I panicked, and now they think I'm dating a Russian model named Svetlana."
I snorted and they both looked at me with a raised brow. I just shrugged and said, "It's funny."
I earned myself a glare from Castle and my aunt said to him, "And you couldn't think of a better name?"
"Right? I know, it was the only name I could come up with. I don't know why. But still, she's a model. She's a really, really hot model."
"Damn straight, she is."
I just shook my head and wondered how I got stuck with the weirdest family in the world. We went into the building and my aunt walked up to an older gentleman, and said, "Excuse me. Hi, I'm Captain Beckett. We need to speak with whoever's in charge."
"Yes, that would be me, I'm Dr. Larson. Director of the A.A.C. regionals, head judge. I oversee all aspects of this competition," the man said.
"So then you would have known Robyn King?
"Vaguely. She wasn't my kind of people, if you know what I mean."
"You don't seem very shaken up about her death," Castle pointed out.
"Well, it's horrible, of course. But I can't say I'm surprised. She and her friends are not exactly aca material."
"Because they're ex-cons, you mean?"
"The A.A.C. is a highly respected and civilized institution. I told the national committee it was a mistake to have their kind involved. But did they listen? No."
"Dr. Larson, where were you last night between 9:00 and 11:00?" my aunt asked him.
"Right here. Getting the show off the ground is a 24-hour job. Now, if you need anything else, talk to my assistant, Troy. Please do not upset any of my performers. Thank you," Dr. Larson said before he started to walk away.
Ryan and Esposito came up to us, passing Mr. Larson along the way, and Esposito said, "Is this guy for real?"
"Unfortunately, yeah," my aunt answered.
"So, what do you want to do now, Captain?" Ryan asked her.
"Let's talk to the other contestants. Ryan, you're with me. Espo, it's you and Castle. And Emily, you just stay close to one of us… I don't need you messing anything up."
"Fine…" I mumbled.
Aunt Kate started walking away with Ryan, so I decided to tag along with them, because I haven't been by my aunt's side during a case for a while. We found a guy working at the a cappella competition, and he led us to Robyn's dressing room.
"This was Robyn's dressing room," he said as we walked into the room.
"When was the last time you saw her?" Ryan asked him.
"Yesterday, right after rehearsal. Must have been about 5:30. She stormed out of here, practically ran me over."
"Was she upset?" my aunt asked.
"Very. But I don't know why."
"Where'd she go?" Ryan questioned him.
"No idea. But I heard that she left the theater about a half-hour later. The assistant stage manager saw her getting in a cab out front."
"Okay. Well, I need to talk to him, and we also need a copy of Robyn's rehearsal schedule from yesterday," my aunt said to the man.
"Sure."
"Thanks."
They started to search the room, once the guy left, and Ryan tried t get my aunts attention, "Beckett?"
"Yeah," she replied.
"You doing okay?"
"Uh… Yeah."
"You know, I was crushed when I heard about Svetlana."
I snorted from hearing the made-up name Castle gave to his fake Russian model girlfriend. Ryan gave me a weird look and I just shrugged as I let them get back to the conversation at hand.
"You were?"
"Mmm-hmm…"
"Oh. Uh, well… You know, I think it's for the best."
"Oh, yeah?"
"Yeah. As a matter of fact, I'm dating someone else, too. A Dr. Livingstone."
Ryan looked displeased and shocked that my aunt and Castle were both dating different people. If he only knew they were talking about each other, which is honestly quite weird, but I understand why they have to keep it on the down low.
We were interrupted by men scatting in the vents, and we all looked up to listen to it. Aunt Kate started walking closer to the vent, and asked, "Ryan? Do you hear that?"
"Yeah," he said as he followed her to the vent.
We all stood by the air vent and heard two male voices, having some kind of a sing off. Then another man tried to beat box, ruining the whole thing the other two men had going.
"That's… I got it… I spit all over my…" the beat boxing man, who sounded like Castle, said.
"Got me right in my eye," another voice said, sounding like Esposito.
"I got you, too? Sorry. Maybe… Kind of ruined the moment."
"Castle? Is that you?" my aunt asked through the vent.
"Beckett?" we heard Castle say.
"What are you doing?"
"We're just… What are you doing?"
"We're in the middle of Robyn's dressing room. She ran out of here at 5:30 last night. Apparently, she was very upset."
"Maybe over something she heard in here? Were any of you boys in this room 5:30 last night"
"Nope," one guy said
"No," another guy spoke up.
"Not me," said another one.
"Unh-unh," one of the others replied.
"We got a runner!" we heard Esposito yell through the vent.
Aunt Kate left the room to go help take the potential suspect down, and Ryan followed quickly behind her. I decided to make my way down the corridor, where I saw Aunt Kate and Ryan who apprehended the runner. They were bringing him back to the dressing room, and I followed after them.
They sat him down in one of the dressing room chairs, and he said, "This is all a big misunderstanding."
"Do you seriously want to play that game?" my aunt asked as Ryan took out his handcuffs.
"Yeah, fine by us. Put your hands on your head," Ryan said.
"Wait. Can't we work something out?" the guy asked.
"Yeah If you tell us the truth. Now, Robyn overheard something from your dressing room, didn't she?" my aunt questioned him.
"I knew that my group couldn't beat the Aca-Cons, okay? Not with their feel-good, "Orange is the New Singing Sensation" backstory. So… I sort of…"
"Did you try to fix the competition?"
"Yeah. I bribed Dr. Larson."
"The head judge?" Ryan asked.
"He was the one who was going on and on about how the Aca-Cons shouldn't even be in the competition. How they weren't up to the standard of the A.A.C."
"And did he accept your bribe?" my aunt asked him.
"Yeah, but Robyn overheard us, and she burst in. She threatened to tell the national committee."
"That sounds like motive for murder to me," Ryan said.
"Not for me. Dr. Larson said he'd handle it, and then he left with Robyn. That's all I know."
We wound up brining Dr. Larson down to the precinct with us, and it turns out, Robyn changed her mind on reporting him to the committee. Apparently, something she saw on her introduction tape, made her have some second thoughts, and she wound up dropping the whole thing, for only a copy of the tape, and that he rejected the bribe.
We watched the introduction tape that they provided for us, and it happened to show how she got to where she is now. The main focus being on the car crash that sent her to prison and changing her life forever. There was also a man shown in the video, and it turns out he was the one who saved her life, so we thought.
Turns out, the scarf used to save Robyn, was way out of her budget range. The clothes she wore that night were around fifty bucks, while the scarf was around two grand. So, they brought in the man who saved her, because it turns out, she went to see him not to long ago. Apparently, he wasn't the actual person who saved Robyn, he found her unconscious next to the car, with the tourniquet already on her injured leg. He just lied about the whole thing, so he could be labeled as a hero.
So, we were back to square one, as we sat around the precinct, trying to figure out who the real hero was. Castle was pacing in front of the investigation board, and was speaking his thoughts on the case, "In that video, Robyn said she was so high, she didn't remember anything, so how does she know that she's the one who stole that car?"
"Because Percy said she was alone," Esposito answered.
"But he was lying. Someone else was there. And what if that someone was the one driving the car? Think about it. A reason to leave the scene of an accident is that you were the one responsible."
"So someone else crashed the car, pulled Robyn out, ran off, leaving Robyn to take the fall."
"But not before bandaging Robyn's leg with their own scarf."
"So, if Robyn found out who that scarf belonged to and then confronted them…"
"There's a good chance that person's our killer."
Ryan walked over to us, with his phone in hand, and said, "Hey, guys, I talked to the country club, and I think I found the woman who threw that party. Her name is Chloe Jarvis, and apparently, she is, like, the Paris Hilton of Long Island."
"You say that like it's a good thing," Castle said.
"Yeah, but that party was years ago. How are we gonna find out who was wearing the scarf?" Esposito asked.
"Photos. Because Chloe has a Snappamatic account," Ryan said as he opened it up.
"Smart thinking. Hopefully, the photos of that party are still up," Castle said.
Ryan tried to get into her account and said, "Damn. Chloe's account is private. And we don't have enough probable cause yet to justify a warrant."
"Excuse me the NYPD may need probable cause. Richard Castle Investigations, however…"
"No, Castle. You cannot hack Chloe's account on behalf of the NYPD," Esposito with a small nod.
"We absolutely forbid you," Ryan said with his own nods.
"Honestly, how did you guys ever solve murders without me?" Castle said before he walked away.
I followed him to the exit, and Castle wound up tripping over a chair. I shook my head at my uncle as I chuckled all the way to the elevator. Castle let out a huff, and said, "Don't laugh at me. I don't know why they'd put a chair right there."
"That chair has always been there, Castle. So, it's not the chairs fault that you are uncoordinated," I said, trying to contain my laughter.
I earned myself a glare from him, and he said, "Be quiet you…"
We went back to Castle's PI office, where we enlisted Alexis into helping us hack into Chloe's account. Mrs. Rodgers, Castle and I watched Alexis type away on his computer, and she said, "I am in Chloe's account."
"Now, Alexis, do a search for Chloe's golf course party at the country club," Castle said.
Alexis looked up the party and went into the file Chloe had for it. We went through the pictures and Mrs. Rodgers pointed Robyn out, "Oh, there's Robyn. Oh. She was such a lovely young woman."
"And she's not wearing the scarf," Castle mentioned.
"I don't see anyone that is," Alexis said.
We continued to scan the pictures from the party, and Castle said, "Wait there. There's the scarf. So, the woman who changed Robyn's life is also the one who took it."
So, it turns out, that Linda was the real person who caused the whole crash. But she decided to pin the blame on Robyn, so she could get away and not ruin her future. Even though she did all of that, and Robyn found out the truth, she wasn't the one who killed her. The killer happened to be her husband, one of the only other people who knew about the whole thing.
So, the case was finally closed, and Robyn got the justice she deserved. Mrs. Rodgers was happy to catch the killer, and Castle even brought her along to watch it all go down. I also heard that Mrs. Rodger's worked her magic on Robyn's a cappella group, since they were nervous about their performance. So, in the end, everything worked out for the best. Not to mention, I even figured out my math problem that I've been stuck on for the last couple of days. Turns out, I was subtracting the numbers wrong, and once I figured that out, I flew through the problem and figured out that 20 was the answer. Now I can finally move on to the next section of my math class.
As of right now, Castle was getting ready for his date with "Svetlana." I was decided to get out of their hair, because I did not want to accidently run into their secret randevú in the middle of the night. So, I decided to head to Elizabeth's house, the friend that I made when I was in the musical. Her mom was picking me up soon, so I decided to head downstairs.
Castle was lighting some candles, getting ready for his date with my aunt, and I asked him, "Ready for your date, Doctor Livingstone?"
"I am… Where are you heading?"
"I'm heading to Elizabeth's house for the night. Her mom is coming to pick me up."
"Ah, well have fun, Emily."
"Thanks, you guys too," I said with a wink.
Castle rolled his eyes, and said, "Yeah, yeah… Now get out of here before my sexy Russian model comes over."
"Are you trying to hide me from your new secret lover?"
"I just don't want to scare her off right now."
"Well, I don't know how long she's going to buy that you're a doctor."
"All right, all right… See you later Emily."
I headed to the door, and said, "Bye, Dr. Livingstone."
I quickly left the loft, and headed towards the elevators, so I could go downstairs and wait for Elizabeth's mom. When I reached them, the doors opened up and standing there was Aunt Kate. I smiled at her and said, "Hi, Svetlana."
She rolled her eyes as she let out a sigh and asked, "Hi, Em… Where are you heading?"
"To Elizabeth's house. Thought you and Dr. Livingstone could use some alone time."
She shook her head with a smile and said, "All right. Well, have fun and don't get into any trouble."
"I won't… You can count on me."
"Okay, see you later Em."
"See you later, Svetlana," I said, and just before the elevators closed, aunt Kate gave me a firm glare.
Sometimes it was fun to get on their nerves, but I'm happy they are finally together again.
