We get back at the hotel around 8pm. Still way too early to get my plan into gear. I have to wait until at least 10 or 11pm so that I'm sure that the Tuckers should be asleep. And I'm positive that Ed and Al are going to be up late talking about their conclusions on their research. I just have to wait till then, and it won't be easy.
I take a quick shower, drying my hair off with a towel. Ed and Al were in some deep conversation about Bio Alchemy again. I flop on the bed in boredom. What the heck am I suppose to do! It's only 8:17pm and I still have another two hours! Maybe I could check my phone… there's going to be about fifty messages from Kate. Taking out my phone, I check my inbox. I was close; 47 texts from Kate. Most of them were the most serious questions like 'where are you!' and 'what happened to you!'. And there were some really random ones like "The lead singer in Imagine Dragons looks like a dragon!" Maybe I could Facetime her to kill time.
"Hey guys, I'm going on the roof for a bit to work on some homework." I say to them as I take my IPad and phone with me.
"Oh ok!" Al calls as I walk down the hall and towards the stairs. As I walk, I text Kate about wanting to Facetime. Arriving on the roof, I sit down against the bulwark and open my iPad; accepting Kate's call. And I was bombarded with screams.
"Bree! Why didn't you answer my text and calls?!" She screams at me.
"Would you shut up?! Someone might hear you!" I hiss at her, looking around for anyone but remembering that I'm on a roof.
"Wait, is that you Bree? You look different and animated…"
"Yes it's me and I'll explain in a little bit. But I think it's ok if I tell you where I am…"
"Well go on!"
"Ok, I promise that I'm not drinking or smoking. But I'm in Amestris."
"Where's that? I don't think we've learned that in Honors Global Studies yet."
"No no. It's not a county in our world. I'm in FullMetal Alchemist Brotherhood." It took a minute for it to sink in. Then she flips out.
"WHAT! But…But, that's impossible! There's no such thing as that Gate thing and Truth guy!"
"Well then why am I animated!? Look, we need to calm down."
"How can I when my best friend is in a different universe!"
"…good point…" I look away from the screen and her angered eyes.
"So where are you?"
"In East City." She murmurs the name as she looks it up on her laptop. "Are you really looking this up?"
"Of course! Then I can give you updates on where you are in the story or something!
"You know… I have internet here…"
"How?! They're in the early 1900s right!?"
"Yeah, I don't know. Sometimes it's just best not to think about things too much."
"So where are you in the story?"
"Nina is going to get transmuted tomorrow…"
"I think I remember that. Doesn't her and her dog get transmuted together?"
"Yeah, how did you remember that?"
"I've read enough of your stories." She shrugs while smiling at me. "So what are you going to do? Are you going to save her?" I pause for a moment, thinking my plan over.
"Yeah, I got a plan," she raises her eyebrows for me to go on. "I'm going to tell them that I overheard Tucker talking about creating a chimera tomorrow morning and I thought it would be interesting to watch." She puts her hand on her chin and thinks about it.
"It's not really sound proof…"
"I know! But it's the only thing I can think of! You know I'm not the type of person to go into something head on!"
"Well…"
"Not in this kind of situation! I like to resolve the situation before it starts!"
"Alright. Do you need any other information for this?"
"Naw, I think I'm good. But I got to tell somebody about…um, a bad situation I'm in."
"What did you do now?" I pull off one of my gloves and show Kate the crystal embedded in my arm.
"Do you have any ideas of what this could be?"
"Is that a piercing or something?" She squints at her monitor in confusion.
"No! Truth imbedded this crystal inside of me. I got two in both arms, two in both legs, and one in my eye. I have no idea what it does though!"
"It must've done something while you've been there. Think!" I lean back against the wall and recall the whole time I was here.
"Ok, first it was the incident on the train where I bit my lip and I think the stone healed it. Then I vaporized some rapist on accident. And then I blew up a part of Central Headquarters." I look back at her, seeing she was starting at me in shock.
"Ok, let me get this straight," she shakes her head; "You can heal yourself, vaporize people, and blow stuff up." I nod my head glumly.
"And let me just say they were all on accident." She leans back on her bed trying to process everything.
"Truth really wanted to screw with you huh."
"Yeah, my life sucks," I reply, "by the way what time is it?" She looks at her clock somewhere in her room.
"Around 9:30…"
"Do you think it would be a good idea to ask them right now?"
"Yeah, I got to do some more homework though," I open my mouth but she beats me to it, "And I suppose I can't tell anyone about this right?" I smile.
"You always know what I'm going to say."
"You're an open book." She smiles back and we laugh together.
"I'll give you updates, but I'm going to be busy with those two." I roll my eyes at my own statement.
"Oh wait, I got a quick question," I raise my eyebrow for her to go on, "have you seen Edward shirtless yet?" She smirks with an evil glint in her eye. My face heats up and I know I'm blushing.
"Got to go, bye Kate!"
"Wait-" I hang up on her and turn it off. Why did she have to go and ask that! Now I'm going to think about it the rest of the night! And the worst part- I'll be sleeping in the same room with him for a while! Ugh!
(Ed)
Once Bree closes the door, Al turns to me suddenly.
"What?" I ask.
"You should apologize to Bree."
"For what?! I didn't do anything to her!" Or at least, I can't remember if I did anything…
"You fell asleep when she was playing the piano. She was pretty mad." Oh that.
"I'm sorry, ok?! I was tired with all the research we've been doing!" I defend myself.
"Go tell her that. Why can't you guys be friends?"
"I just don't trust her. Do you really blame me?" I mean really, she's been refusing any questions about where she's from or where she got that technology.
"Well she doesn't trust us either. Maybe if we are nice to her then she'll trust us and tell us more about herself." Al says. I growl in annoyance.
"Fine, when she comes back I'll tell her."
(Bree)
I slowly walk back to the room, thinking about that morning over and over in my head. Man, now I'm going to stay red for a while. Stopping outside of the door, I take a deep breath to get the thoughts out of my head. That's when the door suddenly slams open and hits me square in the face. I fall back on my butt, grabbing my nose. At least it wasn't that hard, or else my stone might've acted up.
"There you are!" I look up to see Ed standing in front of me.
"Yeah, found that out when you almost killed me…" I mumble. Ed reaches out his hand to help me up. I look at it quizzically.
"Well are you going to take it or not?" He asks as I hesitantly grab it and he pulls me up.
"Um, thanks." I scratch the back of my head as we walk back into the apartment.
"I'm uh…" I look over to Ed as he turns his back on me, scratching his own head now, "I'm sorry about today with the piano." He's…sorry? That was something in the far back of my mind that would not happen today.
"Um…don't worry about it." I turn away from him. Am I embarrassed? Why would I be embarrassed? Maybe this is a good time to bring up Tucker. "All that aside, I overheard Mr. Tucker talking about transmuting a chimera tomorrow morning. Maybe we could go over there early to watch?" I say to the both of them. Ed turns back to me with a questioning look and Al turns his helmet towards me.
"Shouldn't we call and ask?" Al suggests.
"It's too late now. I don't think he'll mind though." I say.
"What do you say brother?" We both turn to Ed who thinks this over for a couple of moments.
"Ok." Ed says after a few moments of silence. I smile.
This'll be a breeze.
We walk up to Tuckers house in the rain. Why did they have to make it so ominous? It's scaring the living day lights out of me. Will my plan work? Will we be able to stop him and get to Nina in time? Maybe I misjudge the time he transmutes her! What if it's just like in the episode and nothing has changed?
"Mr. Tucker! Thanks for having us again today!" Al calls into the house as we enter. I reach into my pocket and start to rub my thumb over my pocket watch. The house was dark inside, like walking into a haunted mansion on a Halloween night. It's creeping me out.
This is going to work, this has to work! I keep telling myself that over and over again as we walk down to the big, iron doors towards the back of the house. Hearing voices, we stop in front of them.
"I need you to stand here, Nina." Tucker says as we hear muffled footsteps.
"What are we doing daddy?" She asks innocently.
"We are creating something. But it's going to be a surprise." I look at Ed in horror and he gives me the same look. He slams the doors open to find Nina and Alexander standing in the middle of a huge transmutation circle. They look at us in confusion then happiness. Tucker just looks shocked. "What, what are you doing here?" he asks as he takes a step back. The smell of many animals and chemicals fills my nose and I try to hold my breath against it.
"Nina, come here please." I squat down and motion her forward.
"No you won't!" Tucker yells as he claps his hands together.
"NO!" I scream and lunge forward only to be held back my Al. Ed does the same action but faster. The ground cracks and the transmutation circle is broken. I sigh in relief as Nina runs and jumps into my arms with Alexander following her. I hold her protectively in my arms and put one on Alexander so he can't go running off, knowing that I saved her life and Alexander's. Ed stomps up to him and slams him against the wall. Jars fell and cages rattle from the force.
"What the hell were you going to do?" Ed growls at him. I shiver at his tone of voice.
"Al, take Nina and Alexander," I almost whisper to him as I hand her over. "I'll make sure that he won't do anything too extreme." Al nods and takes them away.
"What do you think? I was going to create a talking chimera." He hisses with pleasure at the thought.
"Two years ago it was your wife. Now you were going to use your daughter and her dog!" Ed yells, finally realizing what has been going on in this house.
"I don't see what you're so upset about. This is how we progress with human experimentations. Trial and error. I would think a scientist would understand."
"And you think its okay to take away a young innocent life like Nina's." I growl, seeing red dots in my vision.
"As long as I get to keep my certification." Now I really want to take this guy's head off. Black sparks slowly start to crackle around me. No, I can't. If the stone is making me do this then I won't submit. I slow my breathing down as Ed screams more at Tucker.
"Did you think you could get away with this?! Messing around with someone's life like that! Your own daughter!" Ed snarls.
"Ha-ha-ha. Messing around with someone's life? You would know all about that. Look at your leg! Your Arm! Your own brother! Those things are also a result with messing around with someone's life!"
"SHUT UP!" Ed roars and punches him square in the face.
"Ha-ha-ha! We are the same! We're the same!" Tucker screeches in excitement.
"NO!" Ed punches him over and over again while denying his statement. I know he deserves it, but it can't go on much longer.
"Ed, stop." I say, coming up behind him. But it was like he didn't hear me. "Ed! That's enough!" I grab his arm and almost get pulled off of my feet. I dig my heels into the ground and pull back with all of my strength. "ED! You're going to kill him! Stop it!" I scream as I feel Ed's arm come to a standstill. I look up to his face and there were so many mixed emotions.
"Ed, he didn't do it. We got here just in time so let the military handle it from here." I say in a calmer tone.
"But just thinking of what he could've…" He trails off, clenching his fist and shaking. I didn't know what to do. I put my arm over his shoulders in a sort of comfort manner.
"Ed, go meet the MPS. I'll tie up Tucker or something," I say to him, "It's better for him to rot in prison than taking the easy way out." Without another word, Ed leaves Tucker and I in the room. I look darkly at the figure against the wall who was caressing his pocket watch.
"I didn't make it…I didn't make it…" He whispers. I grab some rope from one of his desk drawers and stood in front of him. Ok, now I'm alone with this psycho. Hope I can sound as brave as I did with Ed.
"Get up." I order but he doesn't move. "Hey, get up!"
"I could still do it…I could…" He looks up at me with crazy written all over his face. Then, he lashes out at me. I wasn't prepared, so he got me to the ground easily. He pins me down with my arms underneath his legs. I struggle, but he's too heavy for me when I'm laying on my stomach. The smell of unclean men hit my nose and I almost gag.
"EDWARD!" I scream bloody murder, hoping that he could hear me. Tucker punches me in the back of my head, slamming my cheek to the floor. Blood trickles from my cheek due to the uneven ground beneath me. Black sparks crack around me and fade as the cut was healed. Uh-oh.
"What was that?" Tucker asks me in a curious mocking tone. I look up to him, and attempt to spit in his face which failed horribly. I'm so screwed. I close my eyes, thinking that I'm going to end up like Nina would've. I feel something relating to energy surges inside me, building up like a gun about to go off. What was it? The stone maybe? Something slams into him, causing him to fall off of me. I scramble to my feet to see what happened. Edward did hear me after all.
"Where's the rope?" Ed hisses as he struggles to keep Tucker pinned down. To my left, I scoop it up and toss it to him. In no time, we got Tucker tied up and the MPS take him away. Ed and I just watch from the back wall of the lab, my body still shaking from adrenaline.
"Why didn't you ask for my help before I left?" Ed asks suddenly. I look over to him and meet his eyes.
"I just…you were…I thought you should get as far away from Tucker so you wouldn't kill him or something." Lamest excuse in the history of lame excuses.
"Well you still should've. It doesn't look like you can fight," I shake my head at this in agreement, "then I still can't understand."
"I'm not really the type of person who likes to ask people for help. I really thought I could do something to help out. But it just turned out that I almost made the situation worse." I guess I really couldn't do anything to help. I'm not strong and I have no clue how to fight or use alchemy. Why am I even trying to help them?!
"But you did help. You got us here just in time to save her." I look up to Ed after his statement and smile. His eyes bore into mine, hoping that I would understand what he meant.
"Thanks Ed." We both head to the living room where they were keeping Nina, Alexander, and Al. Nina jumps into my arms and hugs me like there was no tomorrow. I don't think she knows what was going to happen to her, but she knew it was going to be something bad. Alexander jumps on me and pins me to the ground, giving me a bath. But I didn't mind. Talking to some police; we find out that Nina and Alexander were going to be taken to her grandparent's house across town. We hug each other for the final time before she got into the car.
"So what happened, Bree?" Al asks worriedly as they shut the car door.
"Tucker was going to use me to create a chimera," I tell him, "Then Ed came to save the day." I smile over to Ed who smirks back.
A huge explosion lights up the sky from around the corner of the street. We all look at each other and run towards it, knowing that that was the way Nina's car went. We round the corner and froze. There, in the middle of the street, was a major car crash…with the car that Nina and Alexander were riding in. It was turned over on its back with a corresponding car smashed in-between the wall and Nina's car. Fire arose from both cars, glass and car parts scattered everywhere. Oh please! Please please PLEASE! Don't let this happen!
But I saw a little bloody hand sticking out of the car with red and white fur in its grasp.
"NINA!"
