Reluctantly, he turned the knob and stepped through the door way. His was scared –not of her, but her actions- but put on a smile to hide it. Her brown eyes followed him as he walked into the room. He peered over to her and she gave him a light smile. His heart softened at the gesture and the worries he had about her flew out of his mind. Sandy gestured for him to come over and sit on the bed next to her.

A few minutes earlier

Sandy watched as the small sponge took the dishes out of the room. She had a plan, but she would have to implement it right now while he was away. It would have to be quick and sneaky. She got up, the bed creaking as the weight of her body was lifted. She moved the floor rug so the corner was flipped up, hopefully he wouldn't notice. Just to be safe, she took one of the notes for the mind reading device off her bedside table and placed it just in front of the bed. Perfect, if it went as planned, she should have a very embarrassed sponge in the next few minutes.

Present time

The sponge took a step forward, nearly tripping over the folded corner of the rug. She cursed under her breath; thank goodness she had a backup plan. She was now relying on the slip of paper.

"Phew! That was close! Nearly slipped on your rug Sandy!"

Ironically, as he was saying this, SpongeBob took a step forwards and slipped on the slip of paper. He fell forward, his bubble helmet coming off in the process. Sandy hadn't prepared for that to happen! SpongeBob landed on the bed and, as planned by the furry mammal, on top of Sandy. He didn't hurt her too much though as he was a sponge. Sandy stared into SpongeBob's eyes. Blue found brown and the contact between them made it uncomfortable to say the least. He knew he should be getting up off of her, but there was something in her eyes that kept him glued there. He felt something click and things slowly fell around him, his walls of self-control toppled and the small voice in his head telling him to stop was now hushed as these 'instincts' kicked in.

Sandy watched from her position under the sponge as his gaze connected with hers. The curtains over the window fluttered making the only sound in the room other than the shallow breathing coming from both of them. Her mind raced; thoughts and emotions colliding with each other and frazzling her mind. Surely he should have gotten up by now… this isn't right! Then his demeanor changed; something changed in his eyes and his breathing slowed. Her pulse spiked, fear nibbling the edges of her composer. Calm, stay calm. I've never seen him like this though… The squirrel felt her plan shatter and now the outcome could be anything.

He leaned down, his breath hot on her face, never once breaking eye contact with her. He pressed his lips against hers, warmth spread through his body; he eyes closing as he enjoyed the contact between them. His breath quickened as he kissed her harder. He was too engrossed in the moment to actually register that the one who now was kissing him back was his best friend. He felt like he was floating, high in the clouds like it was a dream. The girl he loved, the two of them alone and his dream finally coming true, it all felt surreal.

Sandy watched as her best friend lowered his face, never breaking his eye contact with her. She was now covered in goose bumps. Every millisecond lasting hours; she was scared, a cold sweat breaking out on her skin as she was unprepared. She didn't like being unprepared or not being in control of a situation; it meant that she couldn't predict the outcome or brace herself for any 'surprises' that would come with it. She could feel his breath on her face as his lips connected with hers. It was an explosion of feelings! Joy, fear, relief, surprise, confusion but most of all, the feeling of love overflowed from her heart. She pushed pack, kissing him as he kissed her harder. She had never seen him so 'in the moment' and so…so… confident! It made him all the more appealing, so much sexier!

SpongeBob rotated his head to the left and opened his lips partially, his eyes snapping open suddenly. WHAT AM I DOING! KISSING HER! SHES GUNNA BE PISSED! I'M SO STUPID! He pushed back, separating them quickly. Before Sandy could even register what is going on, SpongeBob grabbed his helmet, ran to the door, opened it and stepped out of the room in the span of a few seconds.

The poor young lady was left with her lips puckered and her arms outstretched to envelop her love, but she only grabbed air. Her breath was ragged and her face flushed. Her brain was all over the place.

'Wow…'

That one word repeated itself over and over. A kiss! She'd never thought they would kiss. But the emptiness of the room revealed that the sponge in question was now missing. Sandy, unable to move as the emotions coursing through her paralyzed her body, lay on the bed and closed her eyes. She didn't want to think, just enjoy the moment, but the thoughts of the consequences pushed themselves into her brain. What would happen now? Did he know that she liked the kiss? Would he want to be something more with her? Her body reacted without her knowledge as she got up to go after her man.
