Hey guys! Sorry for such a long wait for this chapter, but I've rewritten all the chapters. I'll probably rewrite them again at a later date, so any ideas for improvements would be great! Also, Highly recommend that you reread from chapter 7 as there has been a big change in the story line! Now, ON TO THE STORY! =3

Chapter 10: One Latte and a Confession Please.

Disclaimer: I do not own any of these characters.

Italics= SpongeBob's thoughts

Underlined= Sandy's thoughts

The brown mammal took the seat across from the yellow porous square. SpongeBob gulped audibly as he sat there twiddling his thumbs. The quiet noises of coffee machines, the little bell ringing as it hung above the door and the hum of quiet voices filled the air around them, accompanying the smell of fresh coffee and the cakes that sat in the glass cabinets near the counter. His blue irises drifted to the slice of chocolate cake sitting in the corner of the glass cabinet. He could imagine its decadent chocolate covering his taste buds; the sweet tang of the strawberry sitting on the top. He could already taste it… There was only one thing standing between him and that slice of heaven, the lovely scientist in front of him currently staring out the window.

He turned his attention to her, his eyes taking her in after three months of absence. He never realized that he saw her so regularly, or that he would ever miss her so badly. He couldn't even count the amount of times he had to stop himself from running out of the Krusty Krab and to her dome where they used to spend countless hours laughing and playing.

She was still wearing the yellow rain jacket she had come in with. Droplets of water slid off the edges and dotted the surface of the table and had left a trail on the floor. Her fur glistened with small pinpoints of rain. Her pink nose misted the glass on the window; her hands crossed on the sill.

A small mug was placed in front of him; froth swirled on top of the mocha brown liquid. The same mocha brown as the eyes that now looked at the drink, also a latte -they have very similar taste-, which was similarly placed in front of the squirrel across from him. Sandy brought the mug to her lips and took a small sip; the liquid burning her tongue slightly, but she welcomed the creamy bitter taste of it. The sponge lifted his cup to his mouth and took a similarly small sip. He couldn't look her in the eye; not after their episode in her room.

Her eyes pleaded him to look at her. She hated that he wouldn't look at her. That he couldn't look at her. It broke her heart that he had avoided her for so long.

'SpongeBob.' It came out barely audible above the noise surrounding them.

'…'

'SpongeBob.' She said it with a hint of urgency, earning her a slight slump of his shoulders.

'Robert!'

The sponge glanced up, not having called that in years. Instantly his soft blue irises met the concerned mocha ones staring back at him. She noticed the dull of his eye colour; they changed with his mood; wave-crest blue, a colour that made her heart not just break, but shatter into a million small pieces.

Sandy moved her right hand to grip his left, but he pulled it back into his lap. The sponge looked away, ashamed of his actions those three months before.

'SpongeBob…'

'…'

'SpongeBob, look at me…'

The sponge obeyed and looked up to her face, his shoulders slumped forward and placing his hands on the table edge.

'I'm sorry Sandy, for causing all these problems… It's okay if you hate my guts and never want to see me again. It was careless of me to do such a thing without your consent; it's not like you wanted to anyway-'

'SpongeBob would you stop it!'

'…' The sponge closed his mouth as she interrupted him midsentence.

'Stop putting yourself down like that! And I'm not angry at you. You didn't do anything wrong…'

'But I KISSED YOU!'

'Who said that it was the wrong thing to do?'

'…'

Now the sponge was thoroughly confused. She's not mad? Who said it was the wrong thing to do? Then surely, no… she can't possibly mean…

'Sandy, are y-you saying that…it was the r-right thing t-to do?' The sponge couldn't help but stutter every few words as he was extremely confused and surprised at the present time.

'Well, that would depend on how this all pans out.'

'…Sandra,' the squirrel's ears pricked at the use of her full name, he never called her Sandra. ' do you like me?'

'Of course I do SpongeBob! You're my best friend!'

'T-That's not what I meant…'

'Oh…well, then…'

The pause was all the answer he needed. He tried to blink back the tears, having your heart crushed was a lot more painful then it sounded. He felt empty and cold. His head fell forward as small droplets rolled off of his cheeks and onto the table. His tears dotted its surface; not once did he wipe one away, it was pointless to hide his sorrow anyway.

Sandy didn't realize that the young man in front of her was crying until she saw a small shudder pass through his body. He didn't make any sounds, just his tears falling from his eyes.

'SpongeBob? Are you alright?' The squirrel leaned over the table and gently tilted his chin up, wiping away a tear with her thumb. His body shuddered again, and he pulled his head from her grip. He didn't deserve her pity. He didn't deserve her. Slowly he got up from his seat and started off for the door; not bothering to bid the squirrel farewell. He needed to be alone, to sort out this mess. He knew if he didn't get things under control, they would go downhill fast; yet he still foolishly kept hope and let himself crossover the line from friends to more than. And it had ruined his life.

It's funny, how a small mistake like that, had caused such a huge commotion like this. His hand grabbed the handle and he pushed the door open slightly, the cold air rushing in and brushing past his face.

'SpongeBob, you didn't let me finish…'

'…' SpongeBob's tears stopped, he stood there, by the door, for a few seconds before turning his back around to the person responsible for the ache in his heart. That's right, she hasn't answered yet.

'SpongeBob…When I first met you, I thought it was cute how you tried to save me. It took a lot of courage to do something like that, and I liked that. I liked how you would put yourself out of your way to help anyone. And it took a LOT of courage… to do what you did. It took more courage then I'd ever have.'

He moved back to their table as she said this and took a seat, afraid that his legs would fail him.

'Sandy…'

'So, yes SpongeBob. To answer your question, I do like you… a lot.'

It exploded! Like a million fireworks, his heart rocketed around in his chest. He couldn't stop the grin that stretched his mouth upwards. He couldn't stop the buzzing sensation all over his body, like he'd kissed Sandy all over again. He felt over the moon! Like he was on top of the world, like he could do anything! He jumped from his seat causing it to topple to the ground; everyone stopped and looked over at the cause of this commotion. The sponge ran around the small table and wrapped his arms around the warm furry body of his female companion. He could feel her heart beating equally as fast as his. She's liked me all this time?! He felt so stupid; he'd acted like a child and assumed the worst from the very beginning. This day would be burned into his memory for the rest of his life. No other moment compared to this one; no other feeling compared to the ones he felt now.

Startled by the sudden act of affection, Sandy returned the hug with equal enthusiasm; she felt his grip loosen after only a few moments of this though, and was confused when he started to pull away. But the sponge wasn't planning on leaving her just yet. Oh no, he had another idea…
