Chapter 11: Chocolate cake.

He moved back, his eyes finding hers and latching onto their gaze. SpongeBob leaned forward, his forehead leaning against her forehead. Sandy's face flashed a look of confusion at his movements before calming as his skin made contact with her own.

Both were unaware of the stares they were receiving from the other patrons of the small coffee shop. Not only were breathes held, but all other movements were forgotten as this was the most exciting thing to happen in this inconspicuous building. Coffees were left steaming, cake was sitting half-eaten; all eyes were glued to the two small creatures in the booth near the window.

Sandy was all his. She was the only thing in his world at this very moment. He tilted his face, angling it so their lips were once again barely separated. He paused; feeling her breath wisp against his lips, her eyes closed, anticipating the feeling of his touch.

She's beautiful.

It was the only thing run laps around his mind as he took in her features. Everything else, white noise in the background as he focused solely on her.

Just a little further.

They were only milliliters apart.

He could almost feel her lips again.

Just.

A little.

Furth-

"WHATS GOING ON IN HERE?"

An audibly 'awww' escaped the crowd when their moment was interrupted by an extremely annoyed manager.

"Are you's two gunna drink yer coffee or should I go book a room fer yer at the hotel across the street?"

The sponge stared blankly at the manager as his cheeks heated up with the embarrassment of what the fish had just insinuated. The customers returned to their seats, grumbling that the drama of the event had been interrupted at such a engrossing moment.

"We're sorry; we'll be ordering in a bit, then we'll be taking our leave."

His gaze returned to his companion, who had happened to have found her voice before him.

She glanced back at him, a small smirk atop her lips. It seemed contagious as the sea sponge soon found himself smirking back. The squirrel leaned forward before whispering into his ear a few words that had him red-faced. It was only then, when the sponge felt her breath upon his skin once again, that he realized that he had not seen Sandy wearing a bubble helmet when she had walked in. His mind had been clouded with worry when he had spotted her, so it hadn't occurred that she was in fact breathing sea water.

SpongeBob pursed his lips to ask her how she was breathing when a small furry finger pushed against them silencing him.

"Should I go order the chocolate cake now?"

Cocking his head questioningly, Sandy answered before he could open his mouth.

"I saw you eyeing it before."

The pores square blushed once again at being caught out in his admiration for the decadent slice that was chocolate cake. She stood to order, but stopped midway as the slices was already making its way towards them. The waitress set down the two slices before speaking to the two of them.

"It's on the house; think of it as…apology cake. You know, to apologize for my managers absurd behavior before. He's been having his own trouble with the misses."

The two smile in response as the female squid walked bak to the cashier. She's really nice! Might be just the person for a certain grumpy next door neighbor of mine.

SpongeBob dug into the slice of cake, but had to stop himself from inhaling it. It tastes so good! (A/N Thats what he said XD)

"It's a proto-type I've been working on."

He looked up, Sandy's voice catching his attention once again.

"I've been working on a way for me to be able to breath under water. It's like gills, but instead of being on the outside, its on the inside. Like a filter that only allows air to get into my lungs."

SpongeBob nodded in understanding before swallowing his mouthful of cake.

"What made you want to be able to breath underwater?"

The question caught Sandy off guard, causing her to choke on her cake. Taking a gulp of her drink, she cleared her throat before looking back down at her food. A bright pink bush quite obvious on her cheeks.

"A-Ah, w-well…Hehe, funny you should ask.."

Sandy laughed uncertainly whilst SpongeBob gave her a curious gaze. What is she on about?

"I kinda, well…It doesn't matter right now."

It was blatantly clear that she was avoiding the question. Not being one to pry, SpongeBob and Sandy ate the rest of the cake in peace; the sponge's thoughts still circling the words whispered to him earlier. And boy, he couldn't wait to finish his cake for something sweeter was to follow.

After the two of them had paid for their food, walked out of the Café with some minor "Go get her!" and "Leaving for that room?" comments, they made their way down the street. The rain just a drizzle now, puddles littering the streets, little kids in gumboots jumping from one to another. It was just like old times.

Sandy watched the pavement under feet as they traveled along the route back to the tree-dome. She felt something slip into her hand. Chancing a peek, she noted the small yellow hand now encompassing her own. Smiling to herself, she continued to watch the ground pass under her feet after giving his hand a small squeeze, which he promptly returned. Seems like things were going her way today.

And would go more so as soon as they got back to the house; which could now be spotted not too far away. Upping her pace to match SpongeBob's, which had increased upon spotting the dome that sheltered the tree.

Also, more reviews means faster updates. I really love it when I see that people have stopped to take time out of their day not only to read my story, but to post a review as well. It just means so much to me! Really! But if you want me to write more, I'll take time out of my busy day to write more for you guys! Just knowing that people appreciate my work makes e inspired and want to writer more and better.
