A/N: Not feeling well but I decided to update for you guys since I received a bit of feedback on other stories. I'm sorry if this chapter comes out a little crappy...
I'm seeing every word you don't say,
But I feel like I've seen it all.
How come every time you ask me to stay,
You're halfway gone?
If this is the easy way out, then why am I finding it hard as hell?
I'm wide awake, waiting for sleep to steal my doubts.
And everything we had rehearsed, has come back to haunt us but ten times worse...
I'm holding on, so tight it hurts...
So why are we holding on?
-Lewis Watson, "Holding On"
You should have seen the look on The Lawrence's faces as they barged into the police station with Mr. and Mrs. Matthews storming in after them. Shawn and Pru have had their shares of trouble before but this probably topped their list, Pru had her face planted in Shawn's lap snoring away the beer she consumed. One of the female police officers at the station was nice enough to leave a bucket by Pru's feet with a wet towel resting on her forehead. The other police officer (an older man probably in his fifties) who dragged Shawn and Pru down to the station was not so nice, but his issue was trying to get puke off of his once shiny black shoes. Shawn overheard Eric yelling somewhere in the building but did not see him yet. Pru was in no position to call anyone but through her drunken mind she knew that she would not call her godparents before passing out on Shawn's lap. Shawn found every possible way not to dig himself into a deeper hole, swearing that he would not say a word without his lawyer present. If only he had Gia's number...
The female police officer found the whole situation humorous because she was in Shawn and Pru's position when she was their age. Lucky for them their night would hopefully end better than her's did. Sadly she had to be the one to search the files finding Shawn and Pru's emergency contact numbers, and had to call the adults out of their warm beds. Another police officer shoved Eric by his shirt onto the bench that Shawn and Pru were occupying.
"Hey, ease up on the shirt pal, I just brought this...but you can have it if you'd like." Eric finished once the police officer gave him the side eye.
Eric scoffed and turned to the two, "Tough crowd...how's Thumbelina holding up?"
Shawn's eyes followed the light freckles that lay across Pru's cheeks, her body moving slightly upwards then falling as she breathed. Her nose crinkled as small snores fell from the opening of her lips, she still reeked of beer but somehow she still remained pretty in Shawn's mind. Eric smirked at Shawn but before he could start teasing his brother's best friend, the main doors creaked opened causing both of the boys to snap their heads towards the sound. Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence looked around the police station before Mrs. Lawrence saw Pru in Shawn's arms. She marched over to the two while Mr. Lawrence was talking with the Sheriff.
"You!" Mrs. Lawrence screamed pointing at Shawn.
Shawn raised his eyebrows, "Me?"
"I should have known that Pru started hanging around with you again, this explains everything!" She shouted gaining some attention from everyone in the station.
Shawn frowned, "What's that supposed to mean?"
Mrs. Lawrence rested her hands on her hips, "I'm sorry to say this Shawn but I knew from the moment Topanga and Pru started hanging around with you at a young age, you would be bad news. Luckily Prudence got away from you just in time, Topanga knew better, but as soon as Pru came back to town here you are again. Her parents wouldn't want you anywhere near her, and I will keep that promise to them."
Now Shawn was offended, his hand was now gripping onto a fist full of the velvet material that hugged Pru's upper body. Mrs. Lawrence was never this...rude if Shawn could say it nicely. He remembered when he was younger and all the adults decided to have a picnic at the park just to get to know each other, he remembered Mr. Lawrence being really nice...maybe from all the herbs he would inhale but still nice. Mrs. Lawrence was a little stand offish now that he thought about it, her grip when she shook Shawn's parent's hands were loose and the smile on her face was anything but real. When Pru and Shawn would try to climb trees he would always notice Mrs. Lawrence just watching disapprovingly, what he can remember was Pru's parents. They were the friendliest couple out of all of the adults, her father looked intimidating but he liked Shawn immediately. Her mother...man he knew where Pru got her looks from, what he could remember was that she was always smiling and laughing something Pru was like when she was younger. Her mother would look at Shawn and Pru adoringly as if she knew something they didn't.
"Mom," A voice broke through, Shawn moved his glare to look at Topanga.
Topanga's stare said it all, she was embarrassed and sorry that her mother was acting this way towards her friend.
The older woman turned to her only child, "Topanga! I told you to wait in the car."
Topanga crossed her arms, "I know...but I could not just wait in the car, I was worried for Pru."
Mrs. Lawrence nodded her head and crouched down to Pru who remained sleeping through everything. Her harsh eyes glanced up at Shawn wanting him to remove his arm from her niece, he did so but not without a glare once more. Mrs. Lawrence brushed the hair that had fallen into Pru's closed eyes, "Pru...Pru you need to wake up."
Pru groaned and squeezed onto Shawn's knee but kept her eyes closed.
"Prudence Jeanine Jewel, this is your aunt speaking and you better wake up this instant!" Mrs. Lawrence screamed.
Mr. Lawrence rested his hand on Mrs. Lawrence's shoulder as Pru's eyes cracked open. Her head felt heavy and was starting to ache along with her vision being slightly blurry. Blinking a few times she looked into the eyes of her family; she jerked backwards before pushing herself off of Shawn's lap with a groan.
Mrs. Lawrence face was so red Pru thought her head was going to explode, the woman took deep breaths before holding her hands out in a calm matter although it was obvious she was anything but.
"Say goodbye to Shawn Hunter because this the last you'll be seeing of him for awhile," She growled before spinning on her heels leaving the station.
Mr. and Mrs. Matthews were shocked, they never saw Rhiannon act this way before.
"What's her problem?" Pru snapped.
Topanga sighed while Mr. Lawrence shook his head at his niece. He held his hand out for Pru to grab, "We'll discuss this later, come on let's get you home sunshine, you need help walking?"
Pru would not be carried out like a child, she shook her head but stopped short realizing that made her head ache more. Mr. Lawrence gave Shawn a sad smile, wished Mr. and Mrs. Matthews a goodnight before walking out of the station. Pru stood up on shaky legs but Topanga rushed to her side, Pru turned to Shawn.
"Whatever my aunt said to you, screw it okay Hunter? She has a problem with everything I do, I will see you later."
Shawn wanted to say, 'Maybe your aunt was right, maybe I should stay away from you...maybe you'll be better off.'
But instead he said, "Later."
Pru gave him a crooked smile, "Later days, Hunter."
Topanga spoke up over Pru's shoulder, "I'm really sorry about my mom, Shawn. She didn't mean any of it."
Shawn just nodded watching the two cousins leave, he looked at Mr. and Mrs. Matthews. Mrs. Matthews dragged Eric by his ear out of the station while Mr. Matthews slapped his hand on Shawn's shoulder and shook it.
"Come on, I told the officers we'll take you home."
And not once did Shawn question why his parents weren't the ones taking him home.
Saturday morning was tense, Mr. Matthews left a note and some herbal tea beside Pru's bed to let her know that he was going on the road and would be back on Tuesday. He also added that he hoped Pru and Mrs. Lawrence wouldn't kill each other while he was away. It was no secret that Pru wished her aunt left with her uncle for the weekend. Pru lay in her bed for another two hours wanting to stay away from her aunt as long as possible. After forcing Topanga to tell her what her aunt said to Shawn, she was finding every possible way not to barge into her aunt's room and give her piece of her mind. Deciding to bite the bullet Pru climbed out of her bed in her sweatpants and thumped down the steps onto the second floor's hallway, she spotted Topanga coming down the hallway.
"Hey, you're up! How did you sleep?" Topanga asked stopping in front of Pru.
Pru shot her a thumbs up, "I got a few arguments in with your mother before going to bed so...great."
Topanga sighed, "I don't understand why you two just can't get along."
Pru shot Topanga a look, "Why don't you ask your mom? I'm perfectly fine until she starts flapping her gums at me, she's the most controlling person I met and let's not forget judgmental!"
Topanga crossed her arms, "Hey...she's just looking out for you."
"Well I don't need much looking after, I'm used to standing alone so I don't need her or anyone else breathing down my neck every second of my existence!" Pru yelled, she wanted to pull her hair out.
She was trying her hardest not to call Topanga's mother a bunch of insults since the woman was her mother. Topanga questioned everything and always fought for peace, gaining both of her parents personalities in one which made it much harder for Pru to see past Topanga's ways.
Topanga reached out to grab onto Pru's shoulder, Pru breathed trying to ignore the crawling sensation beneath her skin as she stared back at her cousin. Topanga watched Pru blink, her light blue green eyes turning a dark teal molding over the yellow surrounding her iris.
"I don't want to fight with you, not when I just got you back."
Pru gave Topanga a grin, "You could never lose me no matter how many times we fight, and you know that Pangz."
Topanga smiled, "Good. Now I'm going to tell you why you're an idiot for getting drunk."
Topanga linked her arms through Pru's as they started walking down the hallway together. Pru cocked her head to the side, "As much as I would love to hear your lecture on a thousand ways not to destroy your body with beer, I would much rather not."
She unhooked her arm from Topanga's and skipped down the steps leaving Topanga no choice but to follow. Topanga was serious about alcohol, she hated it...she also hated any party that couldn't have fun without being intoxicated with something dangerous. She knew that Pru was the complete opposite of her but she thought Pru would know better to stay from things that could cause harm to her. Maybe she didn't know how, the girl was already blunt enough. Pru knew that Topanga wanted to lecture her, but she's heard enough about it on the way home. Of course she knew the dangers of drinking, she knew she could have gotten hurt last night but she didn't. She knew she could have drunken more than what she did, but...she didn't. Yes she ventured off into a house with college kids while drunk and they could have hurt her, but they didn't. Plus she didn't go the party alone, she went with a friend...one of her best friend's and he kept an eye out for her no matter how many beers she gulped down.
Pru looked at the clock on the microwave to see that it was two in the afternoon, she's been up since twelve and she wasn't hungry...just thirsty after drinking that horrible herbal tea. Grabbing some orange juice from the fridge and held pitcher in the air asking if Topanga wanted some. The dirty blonde haired teen shook her head as Pru poured herself a glass. Taking a few sips Pru asked, "So where's Ursula?"
Topanga raised an eyebrow before frowning, "Are you talking about my mother?"
Pru gave an innocent smile, "I mean auntie Rhiannon."
"She went to a friend's...they're going to lunch, shopping, and then to the spa. It's their thing, they do it once a month."
A smirk played on Pru's lips, "So what you're saying is...we have the whole house to ourselves for...how long is Ursula- I mean auntie Rhiannon usually gone for?"
Topanga shrugged, "Usually for the whole day, they go to the spa that's about a hour or two away...why?"
Pru grinned her chubby cheeks pushing her eyes into her skull, "Because I have some new material to write and play for you. So tell me where your mom hides things?"
Topanga shook her head, "Are you crazy?! You're grounded and mom put me in charge of you, you ruined your chance for us to do something fun!"
Pru felt her heart break Friday night when she noticed the grand piano was missing from the family room, where the heck did they move it to? Topanga figured the day would be boring, she did her homework already, she couldn't go see Cory and leave Pru here since she was not allowed to leave the house.
"Pangz, your idea of fun is studying and watching boring documentary films." Pru argued before swallowing the last of her orange juice.
Topanga turned her eyes into slits, "I have fun."
Pru rolled her eyes, "Sure you do, you're a grandmother in a fifteen year olds body."
Topanga slammed her hands on the island counter, "I'll show you how fun I can be. You write a list of all the things you want to do today and we'll do them before mom get's back. Deal?"
Pru smirked, "Deal."
Oh how the tables have turned.
Topanga returned to the kitchen dangling a key from her fingertips and hung them in front of Pru's wide eyes, "Come on," She cooed running down the hallway expecting Pru to follow her.
The two cousins stood in the basement, Topanga's fingertips brushed alongside of the wall before pressing on a camouflaged button. The wall slowly moved to the side as Topanga stepped forward into the space before standing on her tippy toes to latch onto a string that lit up the area. Pru grinned at the black grand piano that called out her name. She calmly walked over to the instrument and stroked the top of it, "I've missed you so."
"PJ, you're drooling." Topanga laughed.
Pru flipped her the bird before sitting down on the piano bench, "Shut it or I won't play Divenire for you."
Topanga zipped her lips throwing away the pretend key and sat down on the bench next to Pru. The blonde fifteen year old waited for the dark haired teen to start the melody, "This is only what it would sound like with piano. I want more instruments to come into this song one day, possibly violins too or cellos."
Topanga watched on as Pru started off playing the keys softly at a time, there was one part of the song that really picked up that Pru seemed to lose herself within the keys. Her hands dipping into the keys harder, her back arched as she swayed to the side softly her eyes closing from time to time. When she finished the end of the song Topanga was...shocked. She did not know what her passion was but whenever Pru sat at the keys, Topanga hoped she would find something to be just as passionate about.
Pru pulled her eyes open, her blue eyes light while swimming with yellow and green. There was a wide smile on her face, "Do you like it?"
"Anyone who hates this is a complete fool. There's lost of contests that you can enter in, musical colleges that you should look into."
Pru snorted, "Whoa I'm not thinking about college right now, I'm trying to make it out of high school first."
Topanga held her hands up, "Just a thought."
Pru closed her eyes feeling that familiar feeling erupting in her chest. The bluntness, the bitterness, the wondering of where she belonged, the events of last night, her father, Shawn...
"Topanga can you get me some paper, I just got an idea for some new music?"
Two hours, two hours was all it took for Pru to come up with two new songs. She of course would have to go back and tweak the notes on the sheet of paper but she was proud of it so far. Two new songs and Topanga recorded her playing both songs. Pru had to pull herself away from the instrument so she could spend some time with Topanga, she wanted to see how fun her cousin and best friend could really be. Topanga locked the basement making sure everything was in place before the two left, while Topanga did that Pru left the recording in her room she decided to call a friend of hers at a electronic store for a favor before meeting Pangz back downstairs.
Resting her hands on her hips Topanga asked, "So what do we have planned?"
Pru handed over the list watching as Topanga's face got wide over each bullet point.
"Please don't make me do all of this."
"I thought you were fun?"
"I am!"
"Then prove it," Pru encouraged holding a pair of scissors out for the blonde to grab.
Topanga took a deep breath before gently placing the piece of paper on the couch and held out her hand for Pru to grab. Pru cautiously placed her hand in Topanga's and allowed the girl to pull her upstairs, here goes nothing.
As soon as Topanga was sick of Pru, she allowed her to leave the house...funny right? Like Topanga could actually be the boss of her, Pru was her own boss. The two watched two movies, painted each other's nails...which Pru was actually forced to do but got away with black nail polish instead of red like Pru painted Pangz. They played ding dong ditch before returning back home, Pru wanted to do more but Pangz admitted that she was pooped and just wanted to take a shower and sleep. Pru wanted to see a certain someone before she called it a night, she promised that she would be back in a hour before auntie Rhiannon returned and took Roxie to the trailer park.
Pru knocked on the trailer door ignoring the looks from the regular teens that loved to tease her about Shawn. When there was no answer she reached onto the handle and tugged on it, but the home was locked. Sighing and walking around the trailer Pru tried to peek through the windows or at least try to get them open but she realized she wasn't getting anywhere. Walking back towards the front Pru climbed back onto Roxie and was stopped before taking off, one of the other trailer park kids was smiling at her.
"Can I help you with something?" Pru asked in signature monotone voice.
The tall boy laughed, "Sure. Let me take you out on a date."
"Don't do dates or relationships." Pru stated looking him straight in the eye.
He laughed, "Are you sure? 'Cause you like coming around here a lot and most of us believe that you're Hunter's girl."
Pru leaned towards him, "Believe what you want, but like I said I'm no one's girl. Now move!"
The boy flinched giving enough time for Pru to rest her legs against Roxie and sped off from the trailer park. There was only one place Shawn could be. It seems as if Pru got to The Matthews residence at the right time as Shawn was climbing out the back window of Cory and Eric's bedroom. As he jumped down Pru decided to sneak up on him, once Shawn stood up his attention was stuck on the window behind him to make sure that no one following after him. When he turned around he jumped backwards surprised that Pru was standing in front of him.
"Oh it's just you," Shawn muttered moving to step around her.
Pru's eyebrows rose as she turned around and reached out to grab Shawn's arm, "What's with you?"
Shawn snatched his arm from Pru causing a frown to appear on her face.
"I...nobody wants me. My mother runs off leaving me homeless, my dad goes after her and hardly bothers to check in on me. The Matthews were nice enough to let me stay but they don't want me to stay for as long as I need to because I'm too much to handle. Then there's you, you don't want me either...you aunt wants me to stay away from you and you don't want me in the way that I want you to want me. I think it would just be best if I disappeared, make it better for everyone else and for myself!"
Pru was not sure how to cope with emotions or how to deal with her friend feeling so broken. She shook her head at her friend, "If you think that's what's best then you're totally wrong."
Shawn glared, "You don't get it! I live this life just floating through time, without really knowing how and where I'm going!"
Pru glared back resting her hand on her chest, "I don't get it?! Did you forget who you're screaming at right now? You think I don't understand you or what it feels like to feel empty? Shawn sometimes it get's so bad that I don't think I have a heart sometimes. I've never been this empty or angry before in my life, I'm on the edge of snapping...a ticking time bomb that can go off at any moment. I lost my parents, I watched my dad kill my mother. Don't tell me I don't know what it feels like to be hurt, to feel unwanted, lonely cause I do. I feel it every freaking day, so you want to scream, you want to run then you go right ahead...no one is stopping you!"
She took a step forward seeing the tears rolling down his cheeks, hesitating she took his head in her hands pulling his forehead to rest against his. "Look at me, Hunter. Look at me."
His eyes were closed because he didn't want her to see him cry, at any other time she would laugh at him if this wasn't a serious matter. He blinked his watery eyes training them onto her's, his eyes searching her eyes for something.
"If you want to run...then you run but you better come back. Whatever happened in there, let it hurt you but don't let it destroy you. Don't you dare say no one wants you. I-" She started but closed her mouth putting her head down.
Shawn dipped his head down trying to catch her eye, but not receiving any luck he placed his finger underneath her chin and tilted her head upwards.
"You what?"
Pru swallowed.
Shawn breathed, "I need to know."
Pru threw her hands around Shawn's shoulders not allowing herself to look into his dark green eyes. Her fingers grabbed onto the hair on the back of his neck, her fingers pushed the hair away so her fingertips could greet the skin on the back of his neck. Softly and slowly she started writing words on his skin, as if it was some secret code between the two. Before she pulled back she shoved something into his pocket before letting go of him. Shawn stared back at her his eyes not blinking once and Pru stared back hoping that he would see how much he meant to her, through all the bluntness that built up inside.
"I could kiss you right now," Shawn whispered into the night air.
Pru held her hands out, "Are you still running?"
Shawn sighed, "Moon...I have to...I just have to get away."
"Then save it...save that kiss until you come back."
Shawn smirked, "So you want me to kiss you?"
Pru rolled her eyes, "Don't sound so eager, Hunter."
Shawn stepped forward placing a lingering kiss onto Pru's cheekbone, and grabbed onto her hand squeezing it before letting go. And as Pru watched him leave, he looked gorgeous doing so.
He was gone before Mr. Turner came out of The Matthews residence questioning Pru where he went. All she could reply with is, "He'll be back...now that he knows that someone needs him."
A/N: Okay so I know Shawn's parents leave during season two but I'm letting it run into season three if that's alright with you. So what did Pru give him and what did she write on his skin? If you leave some reviews the quicker I can update Soul Meets Body and please let me know what you think of Pru and Shawn, is there anything I should change or add more of?
I'm thinking of writing a short story for Halloween, preferably a nightmare on elm street kinda oc thing but not with Freddy. Let me know if you think I should do it or not.
Hope this was not too crappy ;\
