It was dark. And she knew something's wrong. The sound of a searchlight turning on drew her attention to a body laying on the floor. Was that a scene? Her eyes narrowed due to the sudden light and she drew closer to the figure.
He was laying lifeless on the ground. Eyes closed. Was that blood... on his shirt?
"Oh my God... Oh my God!" Cameron exclaimed in an overwhelming shock. She felt her throat tight and it was getting harder and harder for her to breathe.
"What... is happening?" She asked out loud, voice shaking.
"What... don't tell me you didn't expect it." A female voice interrupted her with a tinge of satisfaction.
"Joseph is dead, hippie. I killed him."
Ringing laughter resonated behind her. Cameron turned around to find Sara staring at her with a wild look in her eyes. She held a knife in her hand and had pointed it to her.
"He deserved it anyways. All these things he had done... Screwing people around."
"I can't... breathe." Cameron couldn't get enough oxygen and felt like fainting. Her condition was weirdly mixed with crushing pain and guilt.
"You shouldn't." Sara raised her hand in rage and aimed at Cameron's chest. "You are no different."
Loud thunderbolt clashed outside the window as Cameron jumped into a sitting position on the bed and struggled for breath. She was so scared that the rush of adrenaline made her get out of the sheets and head for the kitchen.
It was pouring the whole night and it still hadn't stopped. It was probably very early in the morning and still dark.
She placed a hand on her heart as if that was going to lower its insane pulsing.
Water, water. She needed water. Where the hell were the glasses? For goodness sake...
"Cameron?" A soft, deep voice called her.
She felt her eyes blurring suddenly and turned to see Joe following her trace through the bedroom and into the kitchen.
"I'm...sorry for... waking you up." She answered, still trying to breathe freely, but averted her face so that he couldn't see there were tears falling down her cheeks now.
"Breathe." He, strangely for her, didn't waste time in cheesy replies, but went straight to her and pulled her to his chest gently.
"What... are you doing?" Her voice came out weaker than she expected. She managed a half smile, continuing shakily. "You don't do romance."
"I heard it's a trend." He announced in a whisper and hugged her, letting her lean her thin figure on him.
He caressed her back lightly and her breathing slowly turned to normal again, thanks to the distracting beat of the heart close to her ear. It was the most calming sound she had ever heard.
"Gosh..."
"A nightmare?" He asked and kissed her hair.
"Yes." She closed eyes, clenching her fingers with the matter of Joe's shirt.
"What was it?" He inquired slowly, in a wonder of her behavior.
"Nothing." She snapped.
"Tell me." Joe raised her chin and furrowed at her wet cheeks. "Oh, so you actually are capable of crying."
"I just..." She shrugged and rest her forehead on his, trembling. "I never realized... uh, what you meant to me."
"Cameron." He touched her lips, her name a sigh of relief.
"Stay with me," Cameron whispered and kissed him briefly. "Please stay with me, Joseph."
Joe lifted her up suddenly, making her chuckle in surprise.
"Truth be told, you're the only one who's crazy enough to put up with me." He carried her back to the bedroom. She hugged him tightly and closed eyes, feeling safer than ever.
"Where else would I want to go?"
A/N: Thank you for reading! Had to publish this, like, a year ago, but had no time to finish it. So, in honor of us getting a miraculous 3rd season, I finally published this.
(Gosh, these two are one of my favourite tv series couples. He's a sociopath and she has nothing to lose. Perfection. Hope they get together by the end of season 3!)
