Elena watched as Caroline and Bonnie got out of Caroline's car. As they made their way to the door, Elena had to struggle not to get sick for her nerves. Damon, noticing her reaction, grabbed her hand and squeezed. She shot him a grateful look and squeezed his hand back. Suddenly, Elena heard the knock.
"I'll get it," said Damon, knowing that Elena wouldn't be ready to do much of anything.
"Thank you," said Elena, truly grateful.
As Damon let Caroline and Bonnie in, he also called for Stefan to come down. As everyone settled in for the explanation, Elena worried about the possible outcomes of the talk. What if they all hate me? What if they think I'm a horrible person? She snapped back to attention when Damon cleared his throat.
"I know you are wondering why you're here, and we hope that this will clear up a few things."
Here goes nothing, Elena thought.
"Elena was kicked out of her house by her Aunt Jenna after she found out she was pregnant with my baby. We met each other before school started and you can guess what happened. Anyway, school started, we saw each other again and didn't really do anything. Elena found out she was pregnant, got kicked out, and was living in her car. One night, Elena was attacked when she was getting in her car around the back of the grill. I had been there and I helped her. She's been staying here ever since because she feels safe around me."
There was silence for a moment, and then Caroline broke it.
"So you were hiding the fact that you were pregnant?"
Elena nodded her head.
"She was afraid you would hate her, or judge her," Damon explained.
"Did you think so little of me?"
Elena spoke for the first ime since everyone had gotten there.
"No, of course not. I was just scared. I wasn't ready to tell anyone. Add in the fact that I have been living here because I can't really be okay without Damon there, and I was just a mess. I still am a mess."
Stefan spoke up.
"So that's why you freaked out on me." It was clearly a statement, not a question.
Again Elena nodded.
"Do you think Jenna will let you come home soon?" Bonnie asked.
"Jeremy is the only one that talks to me, and he said that she is not changing her mind anytime soon."
"That sucks," Bonnie said sympathetically.
"I'm fine with it. I refuse to get rid of the baby, so…"
"What about you Damon, how do you feel?" Caroline asked.
"I support Elena completely, and I will be there for her no matter what, the baby too."
Everyone was quiet for a while, just taking in the information.
Stefan broke the silence.
"What will you do when our parents get back?"
"Talk to them, explain the situation, see what happens."
"I'm saving up all that I can from working, so that I can get a place," Elena said.
"Is Damon going to live with you?" Caroline asked.
"That is completely up to Damon."
"Damon?"
"I think that we still have a lot to talk about."
Elena felt pain in her heart. Why do I have to have feelings for him? I shouldn't want him to come with me.
"It's getting late, you should get home before your parents worry," Damon said, seeing distress on Elena's face, even if he didn't know the cause.
"Goodnight," Caroline and Bonnie said. They promised to text Elena later.
Stefan went to bed to, claiming exhaustion. Elena told Damon she was going to take a shower.
"I'll make you something to eat then take one too."
"Thank you, but you don't have to."
"I want to."
"Okay."
"Okay."
Later, when they were both in bed and Elena was almost asleep, on the brink of unconsciousness, she could have sworn she heard Damon whisper something to her about love, but she just brushed it off and fell asleep.
Sorry it's been so long :)
