Chapter 18
Arnold and Helga scanned the small crematory that surrounded them. Sheets of rain poured and the faint sound of running circled around the gates.
"Help me... We're locked in." Helga looked at her right side that faced the door. Arnold turned to his left.
"Helga... Did you here that?"
"Hear what..." Helga took Arnold's arm and held it close to her chest. Arnold turned sharp to his right this time and looked intensely at the huge tree that grew on the right side of the yard.
"There it is again! I think it's saying... Help me..." Arnold's eyes went wide with fear as he counties to look at the tree. Helga looked up at Arnold and turned her head the same way Arnold's was. Her eyes went wide and filled with fear.
Sitting under the tall tree sat a boy, a boy that was no more then 15. He wore a black sweater with ripped jeans, his burning red hair seemed like a light in the middle of the yard. Helga started to walk toward the boy but Arnold stopped her with his arm.
"What are you doing? That boy needs our help Arnold! He might be trapped in here like we are." Helga tried to put Arnold's arm down but it didn't budge.
"Helga are you nuts! Remember what the store clerk said? This place is hunted like no tomorrow! It's a ghost Helga! I'm not letting you get hurt by him." Arnold glared at Helga in the corner of his eye.
"Fine Arnold. Why don't you come with me since you want to be so protective." Helga crossed her arms and raised her eyebrow to Arnold. Turning around Arnold stared at her in the eyes and scowled.
"Helga we are not going over there. It's too dangerous."
"What's to dangerous?"
Arnold and Helga froze in fear as the voice behind them was cold and airy. Arnold slowly turned around to see the ginger haired boy standing touching distance away from them. Arnold stood back a couple of steps dragging Helga along with him.
"Ummmm... Yeah we where.. Just saying how dangerous it is in here and... We're trying to find a way out..." Arnold barley got the words out of his mouth from shaking. The boy gave him a huge smile, his green eyes burned into Arnold's.
"I can help you guys out. I have some friends in here who can help as well." The ginger boy turned around to face the grave yard, he whistled an turned back around to the scared couple. Out of no where a brown haired boy emerged from behind a huge grave stone and another blacked hair boy wobbled away from the same tree the ginger boy came from.
"We don't need your help boys... I think we can manage..." Helga blurted out from behind Arnold. The ginger now had a scowl, putting a hand up he stopped the two boys from coming any closer.
"We are trying to help you and you are declining it? How rude." The ginger boy sneaked closer to Arnold and Helga, Arnold stepped away more until Helga got hit by the metal fence. "Do you know what we do to rude people around here?" The ginger licked his large lips and smiled big showing his teeth.
'Shit... I have to protect Helga from anything! What can I do...' Arnold in a fit of fear threw himself at the red haired boy. Almost hitting him some bright lights filled up the yard.
"Nicolas! Stop it!" A man yelled into the yard. Arnold couldn't stop himself by falling almost hitting the ginger boy, before he had the chance to touch him he disappeared making Arnold land into the muddy water. The lights that blinded the yard vanished. Looking around they saw the lights came from a pick up truck that he saw at the store a couple days back.
Emerging out from the truck the store clerk ran to the doors of the gate and pulled out a large key from his pocket. Opening the doors he came jogging up to Helga and Arnold. Out of berth he managed to say.
"Are you two crazy! I told you it's haunted in here and dangerous and what do you do! For gods shake how did you even get in here? John locked it last night before he left!" The old man put his dirty hands on his knee's and took another breather. Arnold and Helga waited for the man to calm down before they spoke.
"Ummm sir the door was open... I know it sounds stupid but I felt hands push me in here. Helga said that she felt someone grab her and pulled her in as well..." Arnold waited for a response from the older man as he soaked everything in.
Arnold told the story of when Helga ran off and he went to go look for her. Seeing her being pulled in to the yard and himself as well. Telling him about the teenagers and so on until there was nothing left to tell. The store clerk raised his hand to his chin and scratched it. Letting his mind progress it, he took a deep breath and released.
"Well shit... It's in the future now. Just don't go running in here again! It's dangerous! You; girly don't be running in the forest ether by yourself! There's bears out here and wolf packs! You could've been eaten! Since you two don't have a ride jump in the truck and I'll give you a ride back." The store clerk started to walk to the doors, waving to them to follow, as fast as they could they both ran for the open doors.
-
"Thanks for giving us a ride sir... We were freezing out there from the rain." Arnold cuddled close to Helga in the back sit trying to make her as warm as possible. Helga sat on his lap and snuggled as close to Arnold's chest trying to get some sleep.
"It was no problem. I was on my way there anyways. I was in the forest chopping wood for the campers and saw you two in the yard. Scared me nearly half to death." Rolling down his window he took out a smoke from his plaided shirt pocket. Placing in it in his mouth he lit the small cancer stick.
"I was wondering what you where doing this deep in the woods...I have a question though... Why did you call that boy Nicolas?"
The clerk froze almost dropping his burning stick that hung from his mouth. Looking at his mirror he stared at Arnold's with hurt in his eyes. Looking back at the road he managed out.
"It's nothing kid. Don't worry about it."
-
Making it back to the site Arnold picked up Helga in his arms and started to walk to the little steep hill that connected to their camp site.
"Well thanks again for the ride. Ummm drive back safe." Arnold looked for a hopeful response but got nothing but a small wave of his hand. Bowing his head down he started to walk down the dirt hill.
Almost tripping a couple times he spotted the trailer and the tent that still stood strong but drenched with water. Arnold looked at the tent in annoyance as he wondered off to the trailer.
Knocking on the plastic door with his knuckles he waited until a worried some phoebe came bursting it open.
"WHERE HAVE YOU TWO BEEN! ITS ALMOST 6 AT NIGHT AND YOU DIDN'T EVEN CALL ME!" Phoebe yelled in Arnold drenched, dirty face. He didn't seem to care very much about Phoebe he was more worried about Helga, she hasn't woken up sense she fell asleep in the car half way here. Passing by Phoebe Arnold walked to the end of the trailer to put Helga on Gerald's and Phoebes bed.
"Phoebe... Where's Gerald? I need some help from him... And I'm also pretty hungry so I need to talk to him fast." Arnold walked down to the small living space of the trailer.
"He's out looking for you two! What happened to Helga? Is she alright? Oh my... I will make her something to eat I bet she's starving." Phoebe went to the small kitchen space, pulling out some food she looked up at Arnold.
"Go look for Gerald." Phoebe turned around and looked at the stove. "He shouldn't be long, and the rain has stopped. He's probably hungry."
Arnold turned away and walked out the door to see Gerald standing in Front of him.
"Hey man! I have been looking everywhere for you! Well... Expect the coal mine, sorry man but I don't want to be killed this week." Gerald stepped toward Arnold, giving him a quick man hug he stepped back. " I was so worried man, I though you got eaten by a bear."
"It's okay Gerald I didn't get eaten but I need your help with something. Me and Helga are officially a couple and I want to do something amazing for her!" Arnold smiled big.
"Man that's great! Are you finally going to get laid! 'Sniff' my man is finally growing up." Gerald removed a small water drop from his eyes.
"Yeah... Yeah... This is what where going to do."
-
Helga was tossing and Turing on the bed of the trailer to wake up from a sound of rocks hitting the small window. Sitting up Helga lifted her knee's to her chest to find that she was extremely cold. Looking around the room she notice she was in the trailer and on Phoebes bed.
'What the hell is going on... Why am I so cold? And why am I on Phoebes bed? I need a change of cloths...' About to walk off the bed she noticed that a pair of her pink plaided pajama pants laid on the bed with a pink sports bra, a black tank top, a really black baggy sweater and some lamb slippers. Not caring how they got there she put them on and tied her hair back. Carrying the cold wet cloths out from the room she saw Phoebe laying on the couch sleeping.
"Hmmm... Where's Gerald?" Helga looked around to see a plate on the stove with Helga written on it. Feeling nauseated she pushed it away with her hands. Not noticing Gerald was on the floor she kicked him, not hard enough to wake him up but pretty hard. Unlocking the door Helga leaped over Gerald, looking back she got out of the trailer and locked it back up.
Walking down the small steps Helga realizes that there where a pathway of rocks that headed down to the river. Putting she wet cloths down on the dirt she walked into the pathway. Not looking up while she was walking, she followed the path. Half way down the path of rocks stood candles that took the place of the rocks.
'Where am I going...' Helga was excited to find what was at the end of the long trail, imaging what was at the end she stopped at a duck tapped X that was landed just on the edge of the river. It was beautiful. The moonlight sparkled down to the running river, the moon was full. It seemed huge to Helga sence she's always been a city girl, the stars peeked from the grey clouds that hidden them. The best off all was the candles that sounded the whole river side if the shore, expect for one place that the path leads to an opening. Arnold stood in the opening of the candle light circle, he held a pink and white flower in one hand and the other reached out for Helga's hand.
"You looked beautiful Helga." Arnold swoons, Helga walked up to him to take his free hand.
"You look as handsome as ever as well Arnold." Helga giggled at the thought they where wearing there pajamas.
