Sam obliged and quickly handed it over before going to talk to Bobby about the cases. Taylor took a deep breath and looked to Dean for instructions.
Dean figured he'd skip the small talk since they had already discussed what needed to be said, "Bend over the couch." Taylor immediately obeyed and clung to the cushions with her life.
Sammy sat down across from Bobby and grabbed a stack of papers, "Find anything?"
"22 year old Twins. Murdered a couple hours north of here," Bobby began.
"Okay and what's so unusual about that?" Sammy asked.
"They killed each other supposedly. They were both found in the Same room. One with her neck snapped. Another with a silver knife in her heart," Bobby explained.
"Huh. Well that seems difficult to do," Sam said.
"Oh it gets better," Bobby continued.
"Really, how?" Sam inquired.
"No one knew this woman even had a twin. The names on the report are Jaylynn Thomas and Jane Doe," Bobby finished.
"How is that possible?" Adam asked from behind. Sam glared at him and stood up menacingly.
Adam quickly backed away and raised his hands, "I wasn't eavesdropping I swear! I just had a question about this. See?" Adam asked, frantically pointing to the paper he held in his right hand.
Sam sighed and shook his head, "I think you know how to sneak up on people way to well."
Adam smiled, "I learned from the best."
"Sucking up isn't going to get you anywhere," Sam chastised.
Adam smirked and looked behind Sam,"I meant Castiel."
Sam rolled his eyes and turned around, "Hi Cas."
"Boo," Castiel said in his normal neutral tone of voice. Adam and Bobby chuckled.
Dean came into the room clutching Taylor to his side, "We found a case?" Sam nodded.
Taylor smiled excitedly, "Well what is it vampires? Werewolves? Ghosts?"
"Well that's what you two are going to find out," Sam said looking for Dean for support in his decision.
"What?" Dean asked. The two younger hunters turned to Dean and Sam gave him a meaningful look.
Dean cleared his throat, "Oh uh yeah that's right. So trade in those cruddy textbooks of yours for the cool stuff. Hope you've been brushing up on your Latin." Taylor was bouncing up and down like a little kid on Christmas, and Dean thought that if Adam's smile got any wider his face would split in two. Bobby explained the circumstances again as they both listened eagerly.
"Who's going to solve the case first?" Sam whispered.
"I bet fifty on... Ouch Cas! What the hell?" Dean groaned, rubbing his head where the angel had smacked him.
Sam chuckled, earning himself a slap too, "Ouch Cas that hurt."
"It was supposed to. We do not gamble on family," Castiel stated. They rolled their eyes.
Dean crossed his arms and stood there silently for about a minute. But he soon realized how boring it was watching his siblings read, "So uh what now?"
Sam shrugged, "Bobby?"
"We can gamble on darts," he suggested.
"Cool." Dean agreed.
"Let's go," Sam said.
"Darts?" Castiel asked.
"Hell no Cas. I am not playing an angel at darts. You babysit," Dean said.
"Got it," Castiel nodded. He sat down awkwardly in a chair and began mumbling to himself, "I still don't understand why humans call it that. It just doesn't make any sense." Not a second after the experienced hunters left, the two youngest siblings were at it again.
"I'm going to win this," Taylor whispered determined.
"You wish slow poke," Adam retorted, "Dean was going to bet on me."
"Pfft yeah right. Dean has been training me since I could walk. No way would he bet on you. He's not that stupid," Taylor argued.
"Yeah but I'm a guy so..." Adam started. They both had dropped their books in their laps. They were now oblivious to their surroundings as they continued to argue.
"Ohhhh really? That is the most sexist thing I have ever heard you say. Wait until we see Ellen again I am so telling her and she is going to kick your a..."
Taylor stopped suddenly as she looked up and saw Castiel looming over them with his arms crossed. She slid down further in her seat, bringing the book up to her face, and hoping that would satisfy him. Adam shifted in his seat uncomfortably. He turned away, resting his head on his hand as if they had not been speaking only seconds before. Suddenly the text seemed a lot more important to both of them as they held their breath. Their fear rendering them incapable of reading the words anyways.
After a moment of silence Taylor peeked up over her book to find that Castiel had vanished. She scanned the room quickly and cautiously. She jumped and Adam cringed when suddenly a voice spoke up behind them, "Is something wrong Taylor?"
"N-nothing sir," she answered.
"Then I suggest you focus more on your research," Castiel advised.
"Yes sir," she answered.
Adam smirked and Castiel sighed, "that goes for you too."
Adam stopped abruptly as Taylor did her best to bite back a smile. She did so successfully, after she realized that her instincts for self preservation prevailed over those of everyday sibling rivalry.
Taylor began taking notes of certain page numbers and scripts that could be a lead in her case. Adam did the same. But after an hour neither HIT had come up with a solid conclusion. That is the code that they were classified under in the world of hunters. HIT meant hunter in training, or in Taylor's case, huntress. They loathed the title and couldn't wait to get rid of it.
"Anything?" Sam asked as they came back into the room.
"Well I found a few possibilities," Adam said.
"Me too!" Taylor said as she held up her notes, "See?"
"Why don't you two idjits work together?" Bobby asked.
"What's wrong with a little competition?" Dean defended.
"This is the hunt, the real deal, and their first one at that. This isn't some kind of game. This is a real case, not a competition of who can run the fastest, or shoot the most cans," Bobby said.
"Uh-oh he's gone full lecture mode now," Taylor whispered. Adam chuckled.
"Watch it you two," Bobby warned, "I'm being serious. When Sam and Dean work together they don't make it into a competition. If you two would just pull your heads out of your asses maybe you would make a good team."
"I seem to recall you and dad having some pretty fun competitions back in your day," Sam smiled. They grinned mischievously as they awaited the stories.
The corners of Bobby's mouth turned up for only a split second before he continued, "Yes, and we almost got ourselves killed a few times because of it. It is not worth the risk of losing a family member. If your father was around he would tan both your hides for even considering such foolishness. If I hear one more word of this becoming a competition, whoever it may be, they are going to have to answer to me. Got me?"
"Hypocrite," Adam whispered, this time making Taylor chuckle.
"What did you say boy?" Bobby asked stepping towards them. Chills shot down their spines.
Adam stood up as Bobby approached them, "I said yes Uncle, Sir."
"Uh huh that's what I thought you said, and you?" Bobby asked.
Taylor stood up as well and also agreed, "Yes Uncle Bobby, I understand."
"Good. So your theories?" He asked.
"Shapeshifter!" Taylor said immediately.
"Werewolf!" Adam answered.
"Alright, Alright, both good theories," Dean said stepping up to them with his arms out.
"Now can you explain why?" Sam asked as they both crossed their arms.
They both tried speaking at once but Dean cut them off, "Okay hush! Jeez, I agree with Bobby on this competition thing now. Short stuff you first." Taylor smiled.
"Why does she always get to go first?" Adam whined.
"Really?" Dean asked rolling his eyes.
Adam cleared his throat and tried to act cool, "Yeah right. Girls before Bros right?" Sam chuckled.
Dean smirked and pinched the bridge of his nose while shaking his head, "Dude, don't ever say that again." Taylor was trying to bite back her laughter.
"It's hoes before bros you nimrod," Taylor said laughing at her brother.
"Well I didn't want to call my little sister a hoe, my bad," Adam said.
"Then you could have said sisters before misters," She explained.
"Guys. Guys! Are you seriously having this argument right now?" Sam asked.
They shuffled, "Sorry Sammy."
"Wow okay well maybe we have left them stuck behind in the hotels for too long. That old tv is rotting their brains out," Dean said, "Let's hear it."
"This girl has no record of ever having a twin sister, and her supposed twin has no identification whatsoever. Obviously one of them has to be a shape shifter," Taylor explained.
"Alright I agree with you, but what do we say about theories?" Sam asked.
She nodded, "Yeah yeah my bad, I'm not saying that's what she has to be, I'm saying that I think it's a very strong possibility."
"And you?" Dean asked.
"The silver, could be a werewolf," Adam said.
"Yes but lots of monsters are effected by silver, and what are the chances of the original girl knowing that silver would kill it?" Taylor defended.
"She could have been a hunter, or maybe she knew that her sister was a werewolf because she helped her get off the grid, or maybe she just stabbed her in the heart thinking that had to kill her," Adam retorted.
"I doubt it. Though the girl must have known some in order to know that a shape shifter can be killed by being stabbed in the heart with silver," Taylor said thoughtfully.
"In that case I guess we better go see," Sam said.
"Well pack up your bags," Dean announced, "We're heading out."
