It took about an hour of squabbles and negotiating, since Marian wasn't sure if she wanted trouble-magnets around her sister, but a deal was eventually settled. Two of the kids – one teenage girl and one preteen boy – would be dropped off at her house after school, and the final – and oldest – teen was to be picked up and brought to her house after his work. Once there, they would all wait for their guardians to pick them up and take them home.

Simple. Easy. Harmless.

As she watched Fowler drive away, she couldn't help but wonder what the catch was.
