I hate feeling like this
I'm so tired of trying to fight this
I'm asleep and all I dream of
Is waking to you

Chapter 46

Taken

Kol had always liked to think that he had good reflexes, not many people could catch him off guard. He could have easily get rid of the vervain net tossed over him, but Eva's screams of pain distracted him a second too long; he didn't see the wooden arrow before it sank into his chest. Then there was a second and third arrow.

"Kol!"

"Eva…"

When Kol fell down, he saw three men capturing Eva inside the net, one of them lifted her over his shoulder like a sack of potatoes.

"Kol!"

He had never felt so helpless in his life, the pain was nothing comparing to seeing someone hurting his Eva. The vervain was burning her and she was screaming and struggling desperately when the man started to carry her away. Kol couldn't move, he fought as hard as he could, but one of the arrows had penetrated his heart, it made him to pass out.

When he opened his eyes, he felt rage he had never felt before. With a furious growl he pulled the arrows out. The vervain net was much more difficult, it was pressed tightly against his skin. Yanking it off hurt like hell, he could feel that his face was badly burned. That made no difference, he needed to find Eva. He jumped to his feet and started to look for tracks to follow when someone appeared from behind a rosebush.

"Eva?"

Kol's eyes narrowed when he recognized Eva's "friend" Damon. Judging by his expression, he recognized Kol as well.

"You…" the young vampire snarled. "If you have hurt Eva…"

Kol was in front of him before he managed to finish his sentence; he grabbed Damon by the neck.

"Watch your tongue, boy," Kol growled.

The young vampire tried to struggle, but he didn't stand a chance.

"Do you know something about the men who took Eva?" Kol asked, he barely managed to control his anger.

Damon's eyes widened.

"What? Someone took Eva?"

Kol didn't bother to reply, he didn't need to use compulsion in order to know that this young vampire didn't know anything.

"Get your hands off me," Damon demanded angrily. "I need to find her!"

Kol stared at him intently, he truly cared about Eva. The thought filled Kol with some very dark feelings; he wanted to rip Damon's heart out.

"I will find my girl," Kol stated icily. "And I will slaughter everyone who has dared to hurt her."

The young vampire looked at him determinedly.

"I'm coming with you."

"No, you're not," Kol snapped and tossed him aside. "I have no use for you."

Kol turned around and continued looking for tracks. Clearly these men had known what they were doing, they had wanted Eva. Kol clenched his fists; he would rip the bastards in pieces. If they had hurt her… Suddenly the image of Eva's tortured little body crossed his mind; it was still the most horrifying thing he had ever seen. No, he needed to focus, he needed to find her. He had just had her back; there was no way he would lose her again.

She was his, no matter what she looked like, he needed her. For so long he had tried to deny it, pretend that his life was just great, but he had known all along that something was missing. He should have never let her go, even if they could have never been really together. Her presence was what he needed; she gave him something he had never ever known he would want. The love of his life.

Yes, it was like some kind of cruel joke, but he didn't care about that anymore, all he wanted was to be a part of her life. Not just a part, he wanted to be her whole life. She would be his and no one else's. His siblings had failed her, so she needed a new family. He would be her family, they could go wherever they wanted and do whatever they wanted. And together they could continue searching a way for her to grow. Maybe there wasn't a way, but that wouldn't matter, at least she would be with him.

Kol followed the tracks to an iron gate that lead to the street. The gate wasn't locked; he opened it and stepped on the sidewalk. The tracks ended there, the men have had a carriage waiting. Damn it! Kol looked around, trying to decide which way to go. He saw a group of cheerful people who were probably coming from the mayor's party and two carriages passed him. Damn, damn, damn! Where were the despicable bastards taking Eva…

"Hey," Damon's voice said, Kol had already forgotten him. "I found something."

Kol turned to look at him; he was holding a piece of paper.

"It's Eva."

Kol frowned and took the paper. It really was a sketch of Eva, a very good sketch. Kol gritted his teeth; he knew who had drawn this. Of course he knew.

"Nik…"

"What?" Damon asked.

Kol shoved him back to the garden and grabbed his throat.

"This is the part where we will go to our separate ways. Fortunately for you, I gave Eva my word for not to harm you, but…"

His pupils dilated when he looked into Damon's eyes.

"Have you ever touched Eva inappropriately or wanted to?"

"No!" Damon replied, he sounded appalled. "Of course not."

"Good," Kol huffed. "I don't have to break my word then. The bad news is that she won't be needing you anymore."

Damon looked confused, Kol's eyes darkened when he looked at the young vampire. Kol had never liked competition, especially in this case.

"You will forget all about Eva and me," he commanded. "Go back to wherever you came from."

Kol was gone when Damon blinked his eyes; he had much more important things to do than waste any more time with the pathetic young vampire. He knew how to find Eva; he just needed to find Niklaus. Then he would certainly teach his brother how to treat his girl.

Here's a little sneak peek:

"Dear lord… She's gorgeous."

"You think so, do you? If either of you even tries to touch my child, I will neuter you when you sleep. You think I'm kidding? I'm not kidding."
