Michael Buble – Daddy's Little Girl

Chapter 49

Father and Daughter

"Eva…" Klaus muttered tensely.

"Stay back," she snapped without looking at him. "I mean it."

They were in the cellar, she had just opened the coffins where Elijah and Rebekah were and pulled the daggers out. It would probably take a while before either of them would wake up; they had been daggered for several years. Klaus really wasn't sure why he allowed her to do this; somehow he just couldn't bring himself to say no to her, not when he had finally had her back.

Sure he had planned to undagger his siblings eventually, but he would have liked to keep Eva just for himself before that. Unfortunately Kol's arrival had ruined that, not to mention Eva wouldn't have given up before finding Elijah. For some reason, that annoyed Klaus a lot. Yes, he was jealous, but that wasn't all. He had missed her more than he had thought was possible, she had taken a part of him with her when she had left.

He hadn't really understood how much she meant to him before losing her. Her presence had calmed him and despite of their differences, she had always been there for him when he had needed her. It had taken him a long time to truly see the person she was inside her tiny frame and he loved that person. Even if they could never be truly together, he wasn't going to lose her again. She was standing next to Elijah's coffin and stroked his hair.

"He's not the same person you remember," Klaus said, trying to keep his tone calm. "He can hurt you."

"He has every right to hurt me," Eva replied keeping her eyes on Elijah. "I did this to him."

"No, you didn't…"

"I left him. I left my own father."

Klaus pressed his lips together, Eva didn't know that Elijah had never received her letter. He wasn't sure what to do about that.

"Elijah really turned his humanity off?" Kol muttered, he was standing next to Klaus. "I can't believe I missed that."

Klaus didn't bother to reply, the whole thing had been quite unpleasant. Being a monster certainly hadn't suited Elijah and besides, two monsters in one family were enough. Eva moved next to Rebekah's coffin and touched her cheek.

"Could you take her upstairs?" she asked. "She would be more comfortable waking up there."

"I'm not leaving you alone with Elijah," Klaus replied tensely. "You don't understand what you're dealing with, he's not…"

"…the same person," she finished. "Yes, I heard you." She paused and turned to look at Klaus and Kol. "I want you both to wait upstairs, take Rebekah with you."

"That's not going to happen," Klaus snapped and crossed his arms. "This isn't open for debate."

Eva pouted her lips and looked at him stubbornly, just like she always did when he denied something from her. How he had missed that look…

"Believe me, sweetheart, I'm just trying to protect you," he continued, using a softer tone.

"Fine," she muttered tensely. "But I want you to stay back. This is between papa and me."

She turned back to Elijah, waiting for him to wake up. Klaus gritted his teeth; he would have wanted to drag her upstairs. There was no telling what Elijah might do.

"How bad was he?" Kol asked quietly.

"Bad," Klaus muttered.

Kol raised his eyebrows; he was looking at Elijah and Eva.

"Who would have thought…"

They were both quiet after that, there wasn't much to say. The cellar was quite dark despite of few candles, but that wasn't a problem for any of them. It was so quiet that Klaus could hear a mouse moving somewhere behind the wall and someone pouring water upstairs. Suddenly Elijah's eyes flew open and he gasped, like he would have tried to breathe.

"Papa?" Eva said and touched his cheek. "It's alright, papa, it's alright."

Elijah blinked his eyes few times before looking at Eva. There was no emotion on his face when he recognized her and he didn't say anything; he simply got into a sitting position and looked around. His eyes darkened when he spotted Klaus.

"Niklaus… That wasn't a very nice thing to do," he snarled, obviously his humanity was still off. "Hello, Kol."

"Elijah," Kol replied.

"Papa?" Eva said quietly and tried to touch Elijah's arm, but he jumped to his feet and took a step back.

"I'm not your father," he stated coldly. "Fortunately."

Eva swallowed, but she wasn't going to give up.

"I know now how much I hurt you and I know I have no right to ask for your forgiveness…"

"I don't care what you do," Elijah interrupted her icily. "You mean nothing to me; I couldn't care less about you."

Eva flinched, like Elijah would have just slapped her.

"Elijah," Klaus snarled warningly.

"Stay out of this," Eva said firmly, keeping her eyes on Elijah. He glanced at her carelessly and tried to walk away, but she blocked his way.

"Do you want me to remove you?" he asked coldly. "Don't think that I wouldn't."

"I know," she replied calmly and kept stepping in front of him. "Hurt me if that makes you feel better, I deserve that."

"Out of my way," he snorted, but he didn't make any attempt to touch her.

"No. I'll never leave you again."

"I don't want you!" he shouted. "You mean nothing to me!"

"You mean everything to me," she replied calmly. "I'll never leave you again."

"Are you deaf? I don't care about you!"

"I love you," she said and took a step towards him. "I always will. Papa."

He didn't move when she wrapped her little arms around him, there was no expression on his face.

"I love you, papa," she repeated and rubbed her cheek against him. "I'm your child and I need you, please come back to me."

Very slowly tears were forming into Elijah's eyes, his hands started to shake.

"Eva…"

She pulled away and looked at him. "Papa?"

He scooped her up and hugged her tightly; tears were coursing down his cheeks. "My little Eva…"

She was sobbing as well; he cradled her like she would be an infant and stroked her hair. "My darling child…"

Kol was biting his bottom lip; he seemed as uncomfortable as Klaus. The bond that Eva and Elijah shared was strong and unique, the bond of a father and a child. Klaus felt jealousy, he couldn't help it. Judging by Kol's face, he was feeling the same. The whole thing lasted for several minutes, but finally Eva raised her head and dried her eyes.

"Papa, you need to feed," she said and handed him her wrist. "Here."

Elijah shook his head. "I would never feed on you, I'm fine."

"No, you're not, I can see it. Please, take my blood."

Elijah had no time to reply when Rebekah started to gasp. Immediately he moved next to her coffin, still holding Eva in his arms.

"Rebekah?"

"What…" she muttered. "Where…"

"It's alright," Elijah said and helped her into a sitting position. She looked much disoriented, but her face brightened when she noticed Eva.

"My baby," she said and opened her arms. Eva didn't resist when Elijah placed her onto Rebekah's lap, she wrapped her arms tightly around the little vampire. Neither Elijah nor Rebekah was aware that Eva knew what had happened to her human. Apparently she had forgiven Rebekah, at least she didn't say anything.

"How long was I daggered?" Rebekah asked, she was looking at Elijah over Eva's shoulder.

"I don't know," Elijah replied. "I just woke up myself."

They both turned to look at Klaus.

"Kol?" Rebekah said when she noticed her third brother.

"Hello, sister," Kol replied grinning. "Did you have a nice nap?"

"Screw you," she snorted.

Kol pretended to be shocked.

"My, my, not a very ladylike language."

Rebekah ignored his comment and kissed Eva's forehead. "Nik didn't hurt you, did he?"

Eva pulled away and looked at her.

"I know what happened to Owen."

Rebekah's eyes widened in shock, it took a moment before she managed to speak.

"Eva…" she said pleadingly. "I…"

"That was why you left," Elijah muttered.

Eva nodded. "Yes. I'm sorry that I hurt you, but I needed to…"

"I understand," Elijah interrupted her. "I'm just grateful that you came back."

Eva turned her eyes back to Rebekah.

"Did he suffer?"

She shook her head. "No, I didn't hurt him."

Eva frowned. "You killed him."

"What?" Rebekah gasped. "No, I didn't, I compelled him to forget you and go back to England."

"What?" Klaus and Eva asked simultaneously. It hadn't been difficult to tell that Rebekah had been the one who had get rid of the boy. They had never talked about it, but for all these years Klaus had thought that she had killed him. Eva didn't seem to know what to think.

"You…why?"

Rebekah's eyes were watering up.

"I only wanted to protect you, I swear. I never meant to…"

They were all quiet for a moment, Eva looked confused.

"Can you forgive me?" Rebekah asked quietly.

Eva looked up and smiled at her. "Yes, I forgive you, how could I not? You and papa raised me; you're like a mother to me."

Rebekah let out a sob and hugged her. "I love you, Eva."

Elijah bent down and wrapped his arm around both of them, the three of them looked quite happy. Klaus wasn't happy; things hadn't gone the way he would have wanted. It seemed that Kol was feeling the same way.

"Do you have something to drink around here?" Kol muttered.

"Yes," Klaus replied. "Come on, I think I'll join you."
