I'm back! Sorry for the wait, I was busy playing videogames and doing homework. I needed some time to relax so I didn't updated for a while. Don't blame me, blame life or something like that. Anyway, enjoy!
Chapter 8: Winner Takes All
The seven Titans were just sitting around a table, playing a game of cards that reflect natural disasters. On the center of the desk were a pile of cards that kept piling up.
"I'm beating your Earthquake with my Snowstorm," Beastboy said to Terra as he threw a card showing a wicked blizzard.
"Aw man!" Terra cried as she folded. "I'm out."
"I use Volcano to beat your Snowstorm," Raven said as she threw a card of a volcano erupting.
"Good move," Robin said with a grin. "But it can't beat my Thunderbolt!"
Robin threw his card, showing a giant typhoon. Beastboy, Raven and Starfire stared at their cards, looking for something to counter with.
"I'm out," Raven said as she placed her cards down.
"Me too," Beastboy said with a frown.
"I…uh…gold the fish?" Starfire said with a nervous grin, not knowing what to do. Terra, who was sitting next to her, looked at her cards.
"Starfire, you got a full-hand," Terra said to the alien.
"So I am victorious?" Starfire said with a smile, which became a frown when they shook their hands.
"Guess it's my victory," Robin said as he hauled the cards towards him, only to be stopped by two hands.
"Don't forget about us, bird boy," Danny said with a grin.
"We're still playing," Cyborg said.
"Then let's go," Robin said with a grin as he looked at his card. He then threw one. "Can you beat my Typhoon?"
The others who were watching gasped at the rare card Robin used.
"Woah, that is like one of the rarest cards there are!" Beastboy said with stars in his eyes. "How'd you get it?"
"I have my ways," Robin said with a grin. "Now victory is mi-."
"Hold it," Cyborg said, stopping Robin, grinning wickedly. "I still have one more move. Booyah!"
He slammed his card on the table, revealing Meteor Shower. They all gasped again at the double rare card.
"Dude, where did you get this?" Beastboy said, drooling as he stared at the card.
"Internet," Cyborg said with a grin. "Guess this is my win."
He was about to grab his winnings when a cough got their attention. They all looked at Danny, who had a smirk on his face, pointing at the card he just placed down. They all looked and their jaws dropped. It was a triple rare Black Hole.
"Wha-ho-whe-?" Beastboy said, to shocked and awed to say complete words.
"Cereal box. You'd be surprise what you can find in those," Danny said with a grin as he pulled the mountain of cards towards him and started shuffling them. "Wanna play again?"
They all nodded and before Danny could distribute the cards, there was a flash of light. When it died, the girls looked around and saw their male teammates gone.
"Is this part of the game?" Starfire asked, looking at her two female friends. They just shrugged.
In an unknown location, Danny, Robin, Cyborg and Beastboy looked around the area. It was like a giant ballroom without the dancing, fancy finger food and slow music. There were other flashes and found other people in the room with them.
The first one was Aqualad, looking around in confusion. The second one was Red Bird, who had a cookie in his mouth. The third one was an orange-haired kid in a yellow and red tight outfit that was connected to the mask with little, red lightning on the side of his head. The other one was an orange-hair guy wearing a red tight suit that had a yellow S on the right side of the chest, a bow and a quiver arrows strapped on his back and on his face was a black domino mask. The other guy was wearing a black suit with red armor on it, and his head was like a light bulb filled with lava. The last one was…something that was not entirely human. He was wearing black and blue armor, was very bulky, as tall as Cyborg, has white pupil less eyes, wild, black mane, hairy, bulky arms and looks like an angry goat.
"Where are we?" Beastboy asked, looking around the place before the other teens.
"KF? Speedy?" Danny said as he noticed the familiar looking heroes.
"Phantom?" the guy in the domino mask said before grinning. "Well you're a sight for sore eyes."
"Dude, been a while," the guy in yellow said as he appeared next to Danny. "And Aqualad's here too? It's a reunion."
He dragged Phantom and Speedy to Aqualad and started talking nonstop. Danny grinned a bit as the four friends reunited.
"Who knew Danny was so social," Beastboy commented to the other two Titans as the four friends laughed about something.
"Hey guys," Red Bird said with a grin as he walked towards them, wiping the crumbs off his face. "You know what's going on?"
"Not a clue," Robin said to his look-a-like.
The guy who had a lightbulb head suddenly sniffed the air.
"What smells?" he commented, covering his nose. He heard a grunt behind him. He turned and saw the…someone. "Uh…smells good."
He grinned nervously before slowly walking away. Before anyone else could do or say something, there was a flash of light. When the light disappeared, they saw a giant yeti-like man wearing an amulet with a big ruby on it, some gold armbands and a loincloth.
"Greetings, Earth's greatest champions!" he exclaimed, getting their attention. "Welcome to the battle of champions!"
Suddenly, the room went dark and the heroes were on the spotlight. A giant screen appeared above them, showing their faces.
"Red Bird: the youngest champion that could take on any adult!"
The screen showed Red Bird jumping on the buildings before taking out the bad guys with his Bo Staff.
"Kid Flash: the fastest teen alive!"
The screen showed Kid Flash running through the bad guys, knocking them to the ground in a blink of an eye.
"Hotspot: a human flame-thrower with a fiery temper to match."
The screen showed Hotspot shooting torrent of flames on a burned field.
"Cyborg: the high-tech teen fighting machine."
The screen showed Cyborg firing rockets while his hand turned into a cannon.
"Aqualad: a water-breathing telepath with mastery over surf and sea."
The screen showed Aqualad riding on a whale as a school of sharks followed him.
"Wildebeest: 400 pounds of primal heroic fury."
The screen showed Wildebeest running through the desert, charging through some tanks.
"Beast Boy: a quick-witted changeling who can turn into any animal."
The screen showed Beastoy turning into a rampaging gorilla, then an eagle before slashing at the screen as a tiger.
"Speedy: the agile archer with an unstoppable arsenal of energy arrows."
The screen showed Speedy running through the forest while firing an explosive arrow.
"Robin: the high-tech ninja with amazing acrobatic skills."
The screen showed Robin jumping off the building while back flipping before pulling out a grappler and swinging to safety.
"And Danny Phantom: The one man army, heavily equipped, supernatural champion!"
The screen showed Danny flying through the night sky before pulling out a Bo Staff and covered it with ecto-energy before swinging it.
"I welcome you here in my Sanctuary for the greatest tournament!" the yeti man finished as the lights were turned on again.
"Cool introduction and all, but who are you?" Danny asked after a minute of silence.
"I am the Master of Games," the creature said as he pointed at Danny. "And you and the others have been deemed worthy of competing in this grand event!"
"And why would we do that?" Danny asked again.
"Why else but to see who the champion of champions is," the Master of Games replied. "And there will be a fabulous prize after the tournament."
"Sounds fun," Red Bird said with a grin.
"I'm in," Beastboy said with a nod.
"Why not?" Cyborg said.
Danny looked around and saw that everyone agreed to participate. Ignoring the bad feeling in his stomach, he nodded.
"Excellent!" MoG exclaimed as he raised his hairy hands. "Then let the games begin!"
In another flash of light, the young heroes disappeared. In a metallic room, Robin and Red Bird appeared, facing each other.
"Robin vs Red Bird!"
The two bird-themed heroes in red costumes looked at each other before pulling out some red projectiles, throwing it at each other. The two weapons hit each other, deflecting them. Red Bird immediately charged forward, holding a Bo Staff.
Robin pulled out a birdarang and blocked the Bo Staff. He then tried to kick Red Bird away, but he just jumped over Robin and tried to whack his head, but he managed to jump out of the way. As he landed on the ground, the room suddenly started shifting. Pillars appeared from the ground, ceiling and walls. Robin and Red Bird had to jump away to avoid getting squash by the metal room.
Robin used his natural acrobatics skills to jump from the metallic pillars while Red Bird used the skills Batman trained into him. He quickly jumped to another pillar as Robin threw some birdarangs at him. He somersaulted to another pillar and grabbed some batarangs.
Robin grabbed his Bo Staff and deflected the batarangs, but one of them got stuck on the pillar he was standing on before it exploded. Surprised, he fell towards the ground as Red Bird smirked and closed his eyes, thinking he had won.
Suddenly, something went zipping pass his head. He opened his eyes and saw Robin quickly going towards his direction using a grappler. Before he could react, Robin punched Red Bird in the face, knocking him off his pillar.
He fell towards the ground and Robin was about to help him when he disappeared in a flash. Confused, Robin looked around when MoG's voice echoed through the room.
"Winner: Robin!"
In room, Cyborg and Hotspot appeared, standing on a rocky field with lava flowing as a river.
"Cyborg vs Hotspot!"
When those words were said, they immediately went to action. Hotspot jumped and did a handstand before firing, causing him to spin like a top. Cyborg just crossed his arms, blocking the rapid kicks that he was getting.
He managed to grab Hotspot's leg and throw the fire-themed hero away. Hotspot spun around in the air and fired at Cyborg. The mechanical hero used his sonic cannon to block the fire, causing a small explosion.
Cyborg charged at Hotspot, punching at him. Hotspot ducked and jumped away, causing Cyborg to hit the ground, making a small crater.
Hotspot used his fire to propel himself to Cyborg before punching him in the gut. Cyborg backed down a bit before he tried to punch Hotspot, but he was too agile for the mechanical teen. Hotspot managed to get behind Cyborg and fire, causing him to stumble a bit. Thankfully, his armor was fire resistant, so he's still fine.
Hotspot was using his speed and small body against Cyborg, which was working pretty well as he cornered Cyborg to an edge. Hotspot smirked as he fired at the ground, breaking the edge. Cyborg started falling towards the lava.
Hotspot grinned, thinking it was over when he heard something. He walked towards the edge, only to fall on his butt as something flew up. He looked up and saw Cyborg with jet boots and a jetpack.
"Booyah," Cyborg said as he fired his sonic cannon at Hotspot, knocking him off his feet.
Hotspot groaned and Cyborg was about to help him up when Hotspot disappeared in a flash of light, surprising Cyborg.
"Winner: Cyborg!"
In another place, Beastboy and Wildebeest were standing in a big cage, several floating islands around them. And it was like being in space. Beastboy looked down and saw that it was very very deep.
"Beastboy vs Wildebeest!"
Wildebeest roared as he charged at Beastboy, who jumped away before the hairy teen could grab him. He turned into a gorilla and charged at Wildebeest. The two exchanged punches, rattling the cage. Beastboy grabbed Wildebeest and threw him to the other side of the cage. Wildebeest slammed into the wall, breaking it and almost made him fall to the abyss.
Beastboy turned into a bull and charged, deciding to knock Wildebeest off the cage. But the beastly hero was more agile than he look as he jumped up to the cage's roof, causing Beastboy to miss. He started falling into the abyss until he turned into a bird, flying towards the floating islands.
Wildebeest roared and grabbed a piece of the metal roof and threw it at Beastboy, who immediately turned into a kangaroo and jumped to another island. Wildebeest roared and jumped towards Beastboy, holding a metal bar that he ripped off the cage. He swung the bar to Beastboy, who jumped away to avoid getting brained.
The kangaroo turned into an eagle and flew towards Wildebeest, dodging the bar that he threw to Beastboy. He then turned into a tiger and swiped his claws at Wildebeest, who blocked it with his hairy arms. The two beasts circled each other, growling as they bared their fangs.
Beastboy charged and tried to Wildebeest, but he was being held back by the beast's primal strength. He carried the heavy tiger over his head before slamming to the ground. He put too much strength to it as the ground they were standing on broke in two.
The started falling into the abyss. Beastboy, who turned back into his human form, was about to turn into a bird, when Wildebeest used him as a platform, jumping to safety and knocking the air out of Beastboy, making him lose focus.
He screamed as he fell to the darkness, only to disappear when he was engulfed by a bright light, causing him to disappear. Wildebeest looked at where he disappeared before he released a loud roar of victory.
"Winner: Wildebeest!"
In another place, Speedy and Aqualad facing each other on a rock that was floating on a river. There were other floating rocks.
"Aqualad vs Speedy!"
Speedy quickly drew his bow and fired an arrow at Aqualad. Before the arrow could hit him, a wall of water appeared in front of Aqualad, blocking the projectile. Aqualad smirked as he sent four pillars of water towards Speedy, who quickly jumped away.
He grabbed another arrow and shot it, but it hit the ground near Aqualad. The aquatic hero smirked, thinking he missed when he suddenly heard some beeping. He looked down and saw the arrow blinking. Before he could react, the arrow exploded, sending him flying.
He landed on the water, shaking the stars off his head. He jumped when he saw an arrow whizz pass him. He looked up and saw three more arrows heading towards him. He quickly swam to avoid getting hit.
Speedy was staring at the water with keen eyes, his arrow ready to be fired. He was tensed as he waited for even a ripple to appear on the blue surface. He looked down as he heard something crack. The ground he was standing on exploded and he was hit by a fist made of water.
He flipped through the air and landed on a rock, shaking the water off his hair. He looked and saw Aqualad standing on a pillar of water, arms crossed as more pillars of water rose next to him. He fired an arrow at Aqualad, who used the water to grab it and throw it back to Speedy, who ducked to avoid getting hit by his own arrow.
The pillars flew towards Speedy, who immediately jumped to another rock. He started jumping from one rock to another to avoid the water pillars. Seeing that he was running out of rocks to jump, he decided to use his newest arrow.
Pulling out an arrow and spinning around, he shot the arrow towards Aqualad, who smirked and blocked it with a water pillar. Just as he was about to throw the arrow back, it exploded and started turning the water in ice. Aqualad stared in shock as the ice started traveling over his body and a few feet of the water around him.
Speedy smirked at the shock look on Aqualad's face before the aquatic teen disappeared in a flash of light, leaving Speedy alone.
"Winner: Speedy!"
In another area, Danny and Kid Flash were standing in a dark cave lit by torches.
"Danny Phantom vs Kid Flash!"
As soon as those words were said, Danny was thrown off his feet as he felt five punches, three on his gut and two on his head, in a second. He landed on his feet, cracking his neck as he smirked at the grinning Kid Flash.
"Seems you're getting slow, P," Kid Flash said as he started running around Danny in a yellow blur. "Or did just get faster. Well, I did become better looking."
"And you forget how to close your mouth every now and again," Danny said with a smirk.
Kid Flash smirked and was about to tackle Danny again when he suddenly went through him. He quickly stopped before hitting the rocky wall and turned to Danny, who grinned.
"Dude, that is so not fair," Kid Flash complained. "I mean, how can I punch you when I can't even touch you?"
"That's the point," Danny said with a chuckle.
Kid Flash appeared in front of him and started punching him rapidly, though it kept going through the halfa. After a full minute of punching without hitting, Kid Flash stopped and panted, using his knees for support.
"That should be really banned in these kinds of games," Kid Flash complained as he tried to grab the halfa, but no luck. "I mean, where's the sense of sportsmanship? Where's the fairness in all this fight?"
"Dude, I said it before and I'll say it again; you talk too much, and that's saying something coming from me," Danny said as he turned tangible and kicked Kid Flash away.
The young speedster fell on his back, looking a bit dazed. When he finally got his bearings, he saw Danny flying towards him with a kick to knock him out. He quickly jumped to his feet, he disappeared as Danny landed on the space he was on a second ago.
Before Danny could react, Kid Flash grabbed him by the cape and spun him around before throwing him to the wall.
Danny slammed into the wall painfully and slid to the ground. Kid Flash saw these as a chance and sped towards Danny, his fist raised and was about to deliver ten punches. He didn't noticed the disk grenade on the ground as he stepped on it.
His feet were suddenly trapped in green foam that soon covered his entire body.
"Hey! Not aga-!" he exclaimed before the ecto foam covered his mouth. Danny stood up and grinned at Kid Flash.
"Still too fast for your own good, K.F.," he said before Kid Flash disappeared in a flash of light.
"Winner: Danny Phantom!"
Another flash of light appeared and the heroes who won appeared in front of MoG, who was grinning at them.
"Welcome, winners of the first round!" he exclaimed as Danny looked around the room.
"Aw man, Beastboy didn't made it," Cyborg groaned as he looked for his green friend.
"Where are the ones who didn't win?" Danny asked as he noticed that they weren't there.
"They have been disposed of," MoG said, causing the others to tense up.
"What do you mean 'disposed of'?" Danny said with a growl.
MoG quickly raised his hands in a peaceful gesture.
"Poor choice of words," he quickly said. "Those who have lost their fight have simply been teleported back to their home."
He would have been very convincing if Danny didn't see his eye twitch. He secretly gave Robin and Cyborg some hand signals. They nodded a bit and continued to look at MoG.
"Tomorrow, we will begin the preliminaries!" he exclaimed with a wide grin. "So get plenty of rest because you'll need it!"
With that, he snapped his fingers and all the heroes were suddenly alone in a simple bed room. Danny quickly pulled out his T-comm and contacted Robin and Cyborg. The little screen turned on and split in two, revealing Cyborg on the left and Robin on the right.
"So what's the problem, Danny?" Cyborg asked.
"It seems like our host is holding a few secrets," Danny replied as he looked around the room. "Cyborg, can you try and contact the tower to see if Beastboy got there. Robin, you find Wildebeest and Speedy and tell them about Master of Games."
"What are you going to do?" Robin asked.
"I'm just gonna do a little sneaking around," Danny replied. "You know, turn invisible and fly through walls to spy other people in their home."
"That sounds so wrong that I don't even know where to begin," Robin commented in a deadpanned voice.
He ended the call and phased through the walls. He glided through the dark halls, looking for MoG. He noticed a bright light at the end of the hall and saw a shadow moving. He flew to the room and saw the shadow turning into a snake.
"Beastboy?" he muttered as he peeked in the room. He didn't saw Beastboy, he saw MoG turning into his hand snake and his other hand covered with fire.
"What magnificent powers," MoG said with a smirk. He then looked at his amulet, which seemed to be screaming. Danny's eyes widened when he realized what was screaming in the gem. "These champions deserved their titles. And once their powers are mine, I will be the champion of everything!"
Danny narrowed his eyes and slowly made his way to MoG. He pulled out an ecto-rang and threw it. Before it could hit, MoG disappeared in a blur, much to Danny's shock. The next thing he knew, he was thrown off his feet as he felt like getting punched ten times by a gorilla.
He landed on his feet, wincing as he felt his stomach bruise. He glared at MoG, who was sneering at him.
"Seems like you're just as nosier as the data says," he said as he shot a fireball at Danny, who made an ecto shield to block it.
"So then, this little competition was actually a plan for you to steal other heroes' powers?" Danny exclaimed as he pulled out his Bo Staff.
"No, not stealing," MoG said, shaking his head. "I am merely harvesting. I handpicked only the best." As he said this, his face changed to look like Hotspot, his body changed into that of a gorilla and water suddenly burst through the floor and surrounded him like pillars. "And then see who the best of the best is. Then I will take those who have lost, since they don't have the right to wield such power."
"And what makes you think you're worthy?" Danny exclaimed as he charged, spinning his staff around before jumping at MoG, swinging the staff.
"Because I am the Master of Games!" MoG shouted as he blocked the staff with a staff of his own that came out of his hand. He made the water go towards Danny, who flew around them before firing at MoG, who disappeared in a blur.
"You cannot defeat me alone, child," MoG said as he fired a combination of water and fire towards Danny's undefended back. Before it could hit the halfa, a disk grenade and an arrow intercepted the attack, causing it to blow up.
"Good things he's not alone, then," Speedy said as he, Robin, Cyborg and Wildebeest who entered the room, glaring at MoG. "Now how about you give us back our friends before we force you?"
"As if you children can defeat the Master of Games!" MoG roared as he fired at them.
"Scatter!" Robin exclaimed and they all jumped away to avoid getting roasted.
Wildebeest roared and charged headfirst to MoG. The villain just smirked before disappeared in a blur. Wildebeest was suddenly grabbed by a tentacle on the waist, stopping him abruptly. He was lifted to the air before getting slammed into the ground, knocking him out.
"Another one falls," he said as the gem glowed and suddenly fired at Wildebeest before he disappeared into the gem. "And another power for me."
He suddenly got bigger and more muscular than before. Robin threw some disk grenades at him and they managed to hit the guy, but it didn't do much. MoG grinned and lifted his hands. He fired a lot of batarangs and disk grenades to Robin, who used his cape to defend himself.
It protected him, but he was blown away by the force of the big explosion. He slammed painfully into the wall and was punched by MoG, who appeared in front of him without warning.
MoG grinned as the gem absorbed Robin, giving him his acrobatic skills.
"Two down and three to go," he said as he shot a torrent of fire at the three remaining heroes.
Danny fired a Ghost Ray, blocking the fire. Cyborg fired missiles at MoG, who made a water wall to block the missiles. Speedy ran behind MoG and fired an explosive arrow at him, only for it to be blocked by a dinosaur tail that sprouted from his tailbone.
The young archer was then slammed by the tail, making a small crater. He groaned as MoG was about to suck Speedy in the gem when Cyborg charged and punched him on the back of his head. MoG was shaken a bit, so Cyborg and Danny took advantage of it by attacking the villain nonstop with blasters and ghost rays.
Dust covered MoG and the two Titans stopped their attacks and took a breather. Suddenly, the smoke disappeared as MoG dashed towards them, swatting the two Titans away. He was about to attack again when Speedy jumped on his, pulled out an arrow and struck the gem.
Master of Games screamed as the gem released a bright light, showing a portal where the captured heroes were pounding their fists on a barrier that was blocking the portal. The light disappeared as MoG swatted the archer away.
"The gem," Danny said as he noticed a small crack on the red gem. "Guys, focus your attacks on the gem!"
Cyborg and Speedy nodded and went to attack MoG. Cyborg aimed his sonic cannon at the ruby and fired, blasting the villain of his feet. Speedy jumped into the air and fired an explosive arrow, hitting the ruby again. Danny charged and punched the gem with an ecto-powered fist.
MoG growled as he saw his precious amulet getting cracked. With a roar, he spun around, firing water, fireballs, batarangs, birdarangs and disk grenades. The three heroes were surprised the sudden attack and were blown away by it.
Danny groaned as he slowly stood up and saw Cyborg and Speedy being lifted by the neck as MoG absorbed them into his amulet.
"One champion left," he said as his body was now covered in robotic armor. He stalked towards Danny, who struggled to stand up. "And once I absorb your powers, I will the Master of Champions!"
"You want power?" Danny said as his eyes glowed behind his mask. "Then take THIS!"
With a shout, he unleashed his Ghostly Wail. MoG, even with all the power he currently had, couldn't defend himself against Danny's most powerful attack. He was blown away as Danny marched towards the villain, still unleashing his attack.
MoG slammed into the wall, covering his ears to lessen the pain. He then noticed his amulet cracking.
"No!" he exclaimed as the gem finally break into pieces, releasing a bright light. When the light died, he was kneeling on the floor, feeling drained for having the powers taken away. When he looked up, he saw the heroes standing in front of him, not looking happy.
"Titans, go!" Danny shouted as he charged at MoG, punching the villain in the jaw before grabbing him and throwing him to Cyborg.
"Booyah!" the mechanical teen shouted as he gave MoG a double uppercut, sending into the air.
Hotspot and Aqualad fired a torrent of water and fire to MoG, blasting him to Wildebeest and a green gorilla, who decked him on the face. Kid Flash ran around him, causing the villain to spin around.
Robin, Red Bird and Speedy fired explosive projectiles to MoG, knocking the villain onto his back. He tried to stand up but a foot on his chest stopped him. He weakly looked up and saw Danny stepping on him, the other heroes behind him.
"Game over, Master of Games," he said.
MoG groaned before he disappeared in a flash of light.
Later…
"Even though no one won this little competition, you guys still prove yourselves to be champions," Danny said as he, Robin, Cyborg and Beasboy grinned as the heroes in front of them held their own T-comms. "So consider yourselves honorary Titans."
"Awesome!" Red Bird said as he stared at the device with sparkling eyes.
"So we're a team again?" Kid Flash said with a grin as he looked at Aqualad, who already had a communicator, and Speedy.
"Seems like it," Speedy said with a grin of his own.
"Except this time, there's more of us," Danny commented with a smirk.
"So how are we going to get out of here?" Hotspot asked, looking at them.
"I got it covered," Cyborg said with a grin. He lifted his cannon, which was being powered by the shards of MoG's amulet. "With this, I can open a portal and we'll be home sweet home."
With that, he fired at the air and a portal opened. Everyone grinned as they exited MoG's world and back into theirs.
As the portal closed, there was another bright light. When it died, Starfire, Raven and Terra looked around the room and saw Dani Phantom, Batgirl and other girls who they don't know about.
"Welcome, Earth's greatest female champions!" Master of Games exclaimed, wearing a new amulet. "To the tournament to determine who is the greatest heroines!"
"Raven," Stafire suddenly said. "I do not have a good feeling about this."
"Ditto."
