Okay, I am back. I know I said I'll do the one where Cyborg will fight Atlas, but I decided to skip that. Just know that Atlas was recruited to the Teen Tyrants. All that cliffhangers and mental blocks kinda made me want to go to the other chapters faster. Anyway, read this chapter and enjoy!
Chapter 9: Missing Bird
"You found him?"
"No."
"He's not here."
"Darn it! Where did he take him?!"
"We just have to keep looking."
"Look where?! There's no other places to look! And we're running out of time!"
Three Days Earlier…
"Titans, go!" Phantom ordered as the Teen Titans faced off against Overload in the city's power plant. It was night time, but because of Overload, the city was as dark as a cave.
Cyborg fired his sonic cannon at Overload, but the creature just moved away and fired at Cyborg. Robin pushed Cyborg away as the electric blast flew pass them. He then grab three disk grenades and threw it at Overload.
The monster just fired at the grenades, causing them to explode. His arm then extended and attacked the two, sending them flying. Suddenly, he skidded a few feet by a green Starblast. He looked up and saw Starfire flying towards him, her eyes and hands glowing green. She fired multiple blasts at Overload, who blocked it with his arms. When Starfire was close enough, Overload whipped his arms towards her. She managed to dodge the first arm, but got hit by the second one. She fell to the ground, groaning a bit.
Terra tried to trap Overload in a cage made of stone. At first, she thought her plan succeed, but then the cage exploded, sending her flying by the blast.
"Raven, Beastboy," Phantom said, getting their attention. "Let's do plan E."
They nodded as Overload started absorbing the electricity from the power plant's generator. Suddenly, something hit him on the back of his head. He turned and saw Phantom smirking at him, holding a green rope while spinning it around.
Phantom was running towards Overload, who tried to smash him to the ground. He jumped to dodge it and used the arm to run towards Overload's head. He whipped the green thing, which turned out to be a green electric eel. The eel bit the chip that was Overload's core. Suddenly, wires covered with black magic wrapped around Overload before he was lifted in the air.
"Now drain him, guys!" Phantom shouted as he landed on the ground and pulled out a Bo staff and stabbed it to the ground.
Overload roared as the electricity was drained out of his body. Using the eel as a conduit and the Bo staff to ground him, Raven used the wires to prevent Overload to drain more electricity. It wasn't long until Overload's electric body became smaller until all was left was the black chip.
"Oh yeah!" Beastboy said as he morphed back, his hair spiked up due to the electricity. "You got unplugged!"
"…Leave the banter to me, B.B.," Phantom said, his hair also spikey. "You're not there yet."
"Aw c'mon man, that was good!" Beastboy exclaimed as Raven picked up Overload and wrapped him in wires. Everyone slowly got up, with Starfire and Terra's hair all static while Cyborg seemed to be energetic.
"Sowhatarewegonnadonow?" Cyborg asked like he was in a sugar rush. "Howaboutwegoandplaysomearcadegamesorgotothemoviesorthecarnival!Ilovecarnivals!"
"How about we go home and call it a day," Phantom suggested, fixing his hair.
"Home?Sure!Ilovehome!Ihavemycomicbooksthere!" Cyborg exclaimed before dashing out the power plant.
"We better go before he hurts himself," Robin said as they run out the power plant. Unknown to them, they were being watched.
"I have them on my sights, you?" a voice said through his communicator.
Gotham City…
"I spotted the target," another voice said as he watched someone leap through the rooftops. "I will begin the plan."
Red Bird was doing his patrol shift, feeling the adrenaline pumping through him. After attempting to steal the Batmobile's wheels and being stopped by Batman, his life changed for the better.
Here he was now, fighting the bad guys alongside the Dark Knight. He has a great home, a soft bed, comfy clothes and three meals a day. Best of all, he has a family.
"Woohoo!" he shouted as he used his grappler to swing through the air. Suddenly, he felt something hit him in the stomach as he was still in the air. He let the grappler go before he fell to the roof, rolling on the ground before stopping, clutching his stomach. "What was that?"
He was thrown off balance when something smack his face, giving him a bruise. He managed to stay on his feet before looking around.
"Who's there?" he exclaimed, searching on the empty roof top. He heard something behind him, so he quickly pulled a batarangs and threw it. The projectile stab the ground. "Show yourself!"
"If you say so," a voice said behind him. Out of reflex, he aimed a roundhouse kick at the person, only for his foot to through his chest. He gasped as a hand grab his leg before pulling him and punching him on the face, knocking him out.
"I got the bait," the man said through his communicator, picking Red Bird up by the waist and dropping something on the ground. "Phase one complete."
He teleported away, taking Red Bird with him.
Next Day…
"My head…" Cyborg groaned, rubbing his head, trying to ease the painful throb. "I'm…gonna be sick…"
"After sixty hotdogs, fifty burgers, twenty cotton candies and ten gallons of soda, I wonder why," Raven said sarcastically as Starfire handed Cyborg some of her homemade soup.
"Still, that was a world record," Phantom commented as Cyborg took a spoonful of the soup, only for him to turn green before gulping down the food with a shudder. "Starfire's soup making you feel better?"
"…I guess," Cyborg said, the taste making him forget his headache. "What was in it?"
"Just some of our blue food in the fridge," Starfire replied with a smile. Cyborg stared at her then at the soup, which he noticed was fuzzy and blue.
He paled as he felt his stomach move. He quickly stood up and rush out the room and towards the bathroom.
"So…who's gonna check on him?" Robin asked as they heard Cyborg from the bathroom.
"Not it," Phantom said as he check on their mission reports.
"Not it," Robin said as he opened the fridge.
"Not it," Raven said as she went to meditate.
"I do not wish to be it," Starfire said with a smile as she went to her soup.
"Not it," Terra said, eating a bowl of cereal.
"Not…oh man!" Beastboy exclaimed before he walked towards the door, grumbling angrily.
"Bring some ginger ale with you," Phantom said as they heard Cyborg in the bathroom. "And a mop…and maybe a gas mask."
Phantom started tapping on the screen rapidly. The downside of being the leader, paperwork and progress report. As he filed away the report, he went to the news channel, rubbing his eyes.
"Superheroing used to be simple," he said as he leaned back on his chair, stretching his arms. "Hope it's going to be peaceful today."
Suddenly, the news was replaced by static, surprising him. The static was soon replaced by a transmission.
"Batgirl to Phantom, are you there?" Batgirl asked as the static disappeared completely, revealing Batgirl.
"Batgirl? Something wrong?" Phantom asked as he stood up.
"It's Red Bird," she said frantically. "He's missing."
"What?" Phantom said in shock. "Are you sure?"
"Yes," Batgirl said. "Last night, when he was out on patrol, someone attacked him. There was a struggle from what we can tell. We also found this."
She showed something to the Titans, it was a torn piece of cloth with the letter A on it that has two rings circling around it.
"What's that?" Terra asked, looking at the symbol.
"That's the Axion Labs' logo," Phantom replied as he typed something on the computer, revealing another screen, showing the same logo and a big building. "It's a research facility that focus on the next generation technology."
"Why would people like them take Red Bird?" Robin asked with a confused expression.
"Maybe someone who works in Axion would," Raven said as she pointed at one of the lab's research. "It says here that they're developing nanobot technology, and we know how dangerous they are."
"So let's go," Terra said. "Where is this Axion Lab?"
"The first building is in Amity Park, where it all started," Phantom said as he showed a map on the screen. "There are also buildings in Jump City, Gotham and Metropolis."
"Batman's already investigating in Metropolis' Axion Lab," Batgirl said with a sigh. "I'm about to join Dani in Gotham's Axion Lab."
"Okay then, we'll take care of Jump City and Amity Park," Phantom said.
"Contact if you find something. Batgirl out," Batgirl said before ending the call. At the time, Cyborg and Beastboy entered the room again, one using mouthwash and the other looking traumatized.
"What'd we miss?" Cyborg asked as he put the mouthwash away.
"Everything," Phantom said as he addressed the entire team. "Robin, you go and lead Beastboy and Raven to Jump City. I'll take Cyborg, Starfire and Terra and go to Amity Park. Titans, go!"
"Uh…what's going on?" Beastboy asked as Robin pushed him towards the door.
"We'll explain on the way," Robin said.
Later…
"Welcome to Amity Park," Phantom said as he stopped the Specter Speeder on top of Axion's Lab. "The safest place to live," he added sarcastically. The speeder was in stealth mode, so no one could see them.
"So we sneak in and see if Red Bird's here?" Terra asked as they exited the vehicle.
"Easy as pie," Phantom said as he removed a cover from a metal box. "Cy, hack into their security system and be our eyes and ears."
"Roger that," Cyborg said as he connected himself to the security system.
"The rest of you, follow my lead," Phantom said as he unlocked the door using his powers. They quietly entered the building.
"Wow, they have some tight security," Cyborg said through the communication. "Whatever they have must be important."
"Actually, half of it is my fault," Phantom said sheepishly. "Remember Red Huntress? Her dad was the head of security…and I kinda…easily…broke in…with a ghost dog…by accident…twice…and caused her to be broke…"
"…No wonder she hates you…"
"For the record, it was the dog's fault," Phantom said, defending himself. He stopped at the corner and peeked at the corner, the two girls behind him, peeking as well. "Is there anywhere that has tight security?"
"Hmm…There are two places, the first one is just one level below you, and the second on is in the deepest level."
"Roger that, keep me posted," Phantom said before turning to the others. "You two go to the level below us, I'll go to the deeper one. You see anything, contact immediately."
"Roger that," Terra said before she and Starfire left Phantom.
"Who is Roger?" Starfire asked as they entered the stairwell. Phantom turned intangible and phased through the floor.
Gotham City…
Batgirl and Dani were quietly running across the halls of Axion Labs. Batgirl managed to hack into the security system and connected it to her mask, so they know where to go.
"Are we there yet?" Dani asked after climbing up the stairs.
"Almost," Batgirl replied. "We just need to go through that corridor."
"Huh…I expected a more secure corridor," Dani said as they ran through the corridor, which was normal looking. "But this…I see more security in the bank."
"Still, be on your guard," Batgirl said as they reach the door. Dani grabbed Batgirl and the two phased through it, only to see that it was the coffee room.
"…Are you sure we're at the right place?" Dani said as they looked around the room. "Cuz I don't think a vending machine is keeping him."
"You really are related to Danny," Batgirl said in a deadpanned tone before she noticed something below the vending machines. She kneeled near the machine and noticed scratch marks on the ground. Narrowing her eyes, she asked Dani to help her push it, which she did.
Once it was pushed away, they saw a metal security door.
"Now this is more like it," Dani said as she touched the door, only for her to get shock, "Ow! Ghost proof."
"Someone really doesn't want us to find out something," Batgirl said as she worked on hacking the door.
Jump City…
"That was easy," Beastboy commented as they walked through the halls.
"Too easy," Raven said as Robin hack into the door's security door. "And that's bad."
"Lighten up, Rae," Robin said as he finished hacking. "Just be happy that we don't get to fight for once."
Suddenly, the door he was trying to unlock exploded, blasting them away. They all rubbed their heads, groaning in pain as they looked at the door. What they saw was a giant robot spider armed with blasters.
"You were saying," Raven said as the three heroes got ready to fight.
Amity Park…
"Ghost proof door," Phantom said, looking at the security door. "Let's hope what's in it is worth it."
He went to the security lock, and ten seconds later, the door was opened. He entered the room and saw a big room with nothing in it. He cautiously walk in the room when the door suddenly closed. Phantom watched as the floor slowly opened and out came a giant robot octopus armed with missiles.
"…Guys…I found something…" Phantom said.
"So did we!" Terra exclaimed and Phantom heard some explosions in the background. "It's a giant, metal dog!"
"Really, mines an octopus-woah!" Phantom said before jumping to the side to avoid getting hit by the giant tentacle. "Cyborg, can you release a strong electric shock to the system and fry these robots?"
"I'll try, but it'll take a while," Cyborg replied.
"I want that shock yesterday," Phantom said before pulling out a Bo staff and charging at the octopus robot.
Meanwhile, Terra and Starfire were fighting a giant, robotic German Shepard with laser eyes and sharp fangs. Starfire fired Starblast after Starblast at the robot while Terra just used the rocks she has in her pocket, which were five rocks, as rock knuckles. She was hanging on the dog's head and kept punching, making a small dent.
"Down boy!" Terra exclaimed as she kept hitting the dog. "Heel! Play dead!"
"Why can't he be like Silkie?" Starfire exclaimed as she grabbed the dog's tail and started spinning around. The tail was ripped off and the dog was thrown towards the wall as Terra jumped off.
The robot slowly stood up and stared at where the tail was. It then looked at Starfire, who was still holding the tail. The robot dog growled angrily at Starfire, his eyes glowing brightly.
"I think you made him angry," Terra said as lasers was fired towards them.
Jump City…
Robin used his grappler to go up to avoid the spinning robot spider, firing blasters all over the room. Raven was using her magic to shield herself while Beastboy turned into a humming bird and zipped through the blasters.
"Why does a research facility need this?" Raven asked as she turned the shield into spears and tried to impale the spider, but it was too fast.
"Duh, to keep the bugs away," Beastboy replied as he turned from humming bird to triceratops. He charged at the spider and used the horns to stop it from spinning. Raven helped Beastboy by using her powers to hold the legs down.
"Keep holding it!" Robin called from above as he spotted a panel on the spider's head.
He jumped towards the robot and landed on the head. He pulled out a birdarang and used it to pry the panel open. Once he opened it, he saw some wires, buttons and gears. He pulled out a disk grenade and stick it to the panel before jumping off.
The grenade explode, taking the spider's head with it. The body went frigid before it fell to its sides. They watched as the legs moved around before it curled, like a real spider.
"That was gross," Raven said as she stared at the spider.
"So where's Red Bird?" Beastboy asked as he looked around the room.
His answer was a door appearing on the spider's side. With narrowed eyes, they made their way towards the door and Raven used her powers to open the door. They gasped when they saw what was inside the robot.
Amity Park…
"How's that shock coming, Cy?" Phantom exclaimed as he was swung around by a robotic tentacle. He couldn't phase through it because it had anti-ghost tech on it. He was using an Ecto-rang and kept stabbing the tentacle, trying to get free.
"Just a few more seconds," Cyborg said in a hurried tone. "And…there!"
The entire room was suddenly covered in electricity and the robot went frigid. It loosened its hold of Phantom, causing the Ghost Boy to fall towards the ground, landing on his knees. He watched as the octopus fell to the ground, sparks appearing all over its body.
"Thanks, Cy," Phantom said, rubbing his bruised ribs. Suddenly, a latch opened on the octopus' head. "Hang on, I found something."
"So did we," Terra said from her side.
Phantom ran towards the hatch and opened it. He gasped when he saw Red Bird inside, attached to some wires.
"Guys, I found him!" Phantom exclaimed through his communicator. "And he's hurt!"
"What?" Terra said in surprise.
With Terra and Starfire…
"But he's here, with us," Terra said as she watched Starfire carrying Red Bird.
"He feels…cold," Starfire commented as she was about to touch the kid's forehead. She gasp when she felt something zap her.
She was so surprised that she dropped him. When he hit the ground, Red Bird started twitching before his head spun around, causing the two girls to freak out. The head soon rolled away from the body, causing the girls to scream.
"His head has fallen off!" Starfire exclaimed.
With Phantom…
He winced when he heard the girls' shout. He then looked at Red Bird and narrowed his eyes. He then pocked the boy's head and heard a hollow sound. Red Bird's eyes suddenly opened, surprising Phantom. He watched as Red Bird moved frantically before sparks all over his body. He then fell, the eyes darkening.
"It's a fake," Phantom said, staring at the robot. He pulled out his T-comm and contacted Robin. "Robin, you there?"
"Yeah," Robin said, appearing on the screen. "We found Red Bird, but it was a fake."
"You too," Phantom said as he stared at the robot. "…Try hacking into the robot and see if there are any memories or other information."
"I'll see if I can," Robin said before the call ended.
Phantom then contacted Terra and Starfire. "Guys, go back to the speeder. And bring that head with you."
"Do we have to?" Terra complained.
"Yes, Phantom out," Phantom said before turning towards the robot. "Who are we dealing with…?"
He ran out the room, not noticing a camera on the wall, the letter V on it.
To be continued…
What has happened to Red Bird and where is he being kept? Will the World's Greatest Detective and the Teen Titans be able to find the young sidekick or will this mysterious team outsmart them?
So, how was it? I'm sorry to those who wanted the Almost Human chapter, but after the stress I had, I just lost the motivation for that chapter. Sorry. Hopefully, this chapter would make up for it. So I'm gonna go do the reviews while you guys just sit there and relax.
gamelover41592- Thank you.
JP-Rider- Man, that episode was suspenseful. And yeah, three grown men obsessed with young adults. The perfect team.
nightmaster000- Thanks.
SweetyKinz- Yeah, that was too random, but I'm just making the story longer until the ending comes. Besides, some cartoons have random episodes. Glad you like it.
SPARTAN-626- Thanks. I wonder why KF was added to that show. As for the pairing, that's a secret.
Kimori Takahashi- Yeah, when one updates, it makes one eager for another. And for the females…I might just add that to the special chapter.
Richard1081- I had an idea like that, but never in the special chapter…sounds interesting.
KuriMaster13- Yup. Just like eggs and bacon, or peanut butter and jelly.
Kaybugg1- Thank you, glad you enjoyed it.
gavin. dugger. 5- Probably in the future.
BringbackDannyPhantom- Yeah, more girls becoming friends…Raven's worst nightmare, hehehe.
ShadowArbitor- Sorry if I made the wrong story. Lost the motive for it, so decided to skip it. And don't worry, Vlad is the first arch enemy, with Slade as second. And sorry, but no romantic interaction with Danny and Raven, even though I like that couple. Though Danny understands Raven better than anyone since they have a lot in common, so they'll be more like siblings instead.
Okay, that's done. Next chapter, the search continue! Will Red Bird be save or will they be too late? Just wait and we'll see! See you later!
