A/n: I want to say how sorry I am for the long unexpected hiatus, I was just really uninspired for this story. Hopefully you guys enjoy this chapter.
First Date
"So?" She asks coyly as she spins in front of him, the sun dress lifting up a little showing just a bit more of those tan legs. She looks delectable in the green sundress, good enough to eat. He grins at her and she is all smiles, he knows this is going to be a good night.
"You look beautiful." She grins at him before kissing him chastely. "Come on we should get going, I don't want to be late." She pulls him out the front door and that's how their first date starts.
"I'll go get it." She's already opening her door but he grabs onto her delicate wrist before she can get out of the car.
"I can go," he wouldn't budge on paying for the tickets to get in, but that doesn't mean he wants her to pay for the snacks.
"I know you can but…" Before he can think of a good reason Sookie slips out of his hold with a giggle.
"You worry too much." With that she's gone and he's not sure why it bothers him so much. Except he does. Looking back into the rearview mirror Warlow has a clear view of the snack bar. Though there are a bunch of people loitering about it, given it's only twenty minutes until the film starts, only one person stands out. It's Hoyt. It's always Hoyt. Standing with Jason off to the side with random other guys that Warlow's seen hanging around in Merlotte's. He should be a better man, he should trust her, but he doesn't even last a second before he's opening his mind up. Who am I kidding? I'm not a man. With that he opens his mind up more and focuses on Jason and Hoyt. Thankfully he can also hear them so he doesn't have to rely on only their thoughts.
"Hey Sook." Jason hollers and waves her over as she stands in line. Even though he can see her hesitate she moves to join them.
"Hi guys. Where are your dates?"
"Maudette and her friend are in the bathroom. You know how girls get." Sookie nods. Warlow wishes he could see her face but all he can see is her tumble of curls. "Oh wait there she is." Quickly Jason jogs off. Sookie's body twists to leave but before she can Warlow sees Hoyt's body move closer. Warlow grips the steering wheel tighter but he knows, he wants to get out of the car and force Sookie to walk back with him but he knows that would only lead to an argument between them, so instead he waits.
"Sookie wait!"
"What is it Hoyt?"
"I just… you look really pretty tonight." Warlow can't help but narrow his eyes at the compliment. She wasn't his to appreciate.
"Hoyt… I need to tell you something."
"What's wrong?"
"I'm sorry." Sookie's voice is full of guilt that it pierces him, even though he can't even see her properly.
"What for Sookie?"
"Everything this past two months, I haven't been a very good friend to you." Warlow saw their body language and couldn't help but grin at the clear space Sookie was giving Hoyt. He wasn't sure if he could restrain himself if she had opted for a more intimate posture.
"Sook, I think you've been the best friend."
"No listen to me. I'm sorry, sorry for what happened on my birthday, sorry for what happened on your birthday, sorry that I started something I shouldn't have."
"Do you regret what happened? Did I do something wrong?" Warlow couldn't help but hold his breath as he waited for her answer. Did she regret her actions? One side of him demanded it of her, needed her to say yes; because despite the fact that it had occurred before he arrived it felt like a betrayal. Yet, another side, the better side he knew, felt it was too much to ask for. He had wanted her to live a normal life and those were things normal teenagers did. In fact he should be relieved that she had felt free enough to do as she pleased, that her youth as an outsider hadn't damaged her. Shaking himself out his musings he felt his ears perk up as he heard her voice.
"No, I could never say that. It's not your fault Hoyt, this has nothing to do with you doing something wrong. You're a great guy I'm just not the right girl for you." So she didn't regret it. He had expected as much still something dark settled in his stomach.
"Don't say that, you're perfect."
"No I'm not. I'm sorry, I didn't mean to hurt you, I hope we can still be friends. But I should let you know that I'm with Ben, were official, and that's just how it is now." Before Hoyt could answer Sookie had turned away and walked back to the SUV. She slid in with a slight frown on her face but immediately sought out his hand, he gave it to her easily and sighed in relief as she interlaced their fingers.
"So no popcorn?"
"Shut up, I know you heard." Despite her words he could see a small smile on her face.
The movie was starting and he could see the opening credits showing some sky view of a large lake. It was the start of some romance movie that Sookie had been all gaga about seeing earlier.
"Thank you." It was all he could say. She turned to him and smiled, and for once he felt as though maybe she wanted this as much as he did. She scoots as close to him as possible with the console in the middle and he wraps a arm around her shoulders. Even if he has to put up with small town drive ins he supposed that was a small price to pay for wanting to be with him. Despite it all he still knows this is going to be a good night.
A/N: Okay so I know this chapter is really short but I just wanted to finish this whole Hoyt/Sookie thing before moving on to bigger things. It's not going to be immediate but soon our character horizon will broaden, which should be exciting. Please review and tell me what you guys think, and I think a lot of you can guess who will soon be joining us.
