CHAPTER THIRTY NINE- Down Will Come Baby
"FOOL!" Lucius shouted. "YOU FOOL," he shouted again. Draco sat with his hands buried in his face next to his mother who was still as stone. Hermione's screams of labor echoed throughout the house, each one more painful than the last.
"WHAT WERE YOU THINKING?" Lucius roared. "She tried to escape!" Draco said defending himself. Snape would be here any moment and no doubt his rage would be worse than his father's.
"You irrational swine! Look at what you've done!" Lucius shouted, pacing the hall. His son's actions were unforgivable. The girl had another month of pregnancy left and Draco sent her into early labor. The decision was made to not notify the Dark Lord until Snape arrived. They would have to find a way to tell him without loosing all their heads.
Healer Tonnesen had been summoned first and came within five minuets of Draco's notice. "Make her stop screaming!" Malfoy pleaded. The noises coming from her bedroom were unbearable for him to hear. "You cannot tell a woman in labor to stop screaming," Narcissa said speaking for the first time.
They had been waiting for almost an hour outside the bedroom with each minute getting harder to take. Everyone's attention went to a loud slamming of the front door. Snape bolted up the stairs to find the three Malfoys.
Not as young as he once was, Snape was winded from his run but still tried to enter Hermione's bedroom. "No one is allowed inside!" Narcissa said shielding the door with her body. "I must see the damage," he said with his breath short. If she had lasting harm from this or worse… He swore to kill the boy who caused this.
With that thought Snape spun on Draco and lifted him from the ground by the collar. "Tell me what you have done right this instant," he said through gritted teeth. Hermione's screams continued and Malfoy tried to block his ears. "NO!" Snape shouted. "You listen to what you have done!" Severus said thrashing Draco back against the wall.
Lucius had to pull Snape off of his son. "The girl tried to escape and Draco lost control of his emotions," Lucius explained. Snape turned to Draco again, which made Lucius turn on Snape. All three men were shouting at each other so loudly they did not hear Healer Tonnesen enter the hallway.
Hermione's screaming had stopped only to be replaced by loud sobs. Healer Tonnesen's face was ice and his cheerful demeanor gone. "Does my son live?" Draco asked. "You may go see them… Neither are well I must warn you, Mr. Malfoy," Healer Tonnesen said opening the door for Draco. The Healer stayed behind to discuss what had happened with Snape and the elder Malfoys.
Draco had been in Hermione's bedroom numerous times but now it felt different. The smell was sickening and the Healer's assistants were taking away sheets covered in blood. "Get out," he growled at them.
Once they were alone he saw how pale his wife was, covered in sweat holding a tiny bundle of blankets. Her sobs continued and she did not register that Malfoy was there.
"What's wrong with him? Why are you crying?" Draco asked, afraid to approach the bed. Through wet tears Hermione said, "She looks like you." As her crying grew louder, she grew paler.
Gradually he approached the bed and saw that it was true. The pale, fragile baby looked exactly like him, save for the generous white curls on her head. They both looked sickly despite the empty potion bottles that scattered the floor.
Draco was about to reach out and touch his daughter when the most thunderous boom he had ever heard rang through the walls. "What was that?!" Hermione asked half conscious and clinging to her daughter. The Dark Mark on his arm began to burn and he could hear shouting downstairs. "The Dark Lord has been summoned," he said with fear.
