Chapter 19: Journal
Eighteen hours had passed since the attack on Atlantis. The destruction of a Wraith ship by someone who wanted the expedition team dead and the kidnapping of Dr. Weir had left them within a mixture of confusion and fear.
The entire population was not completely lost since their goal was to rescue her. They had a good theory that she was on the same planet that Ereshkigal ruled.
McKay couldn't believe that Ereshkigal hadn't destroyed Atlantis when she had the chance. He looked at the Ancient scientist's notes again hoping to find something that would bring down Sky.
Radek was taking a power nap in his quarters. He fell asleep and had almost fallen to the floor if Taylor hadn't been there to prevent that from happening. The group had decided to take shifts sorting through the Ancient's intensive notes. At least Radek had discovered the Ancient's name was Sinell, which would be useful when they researched him in the Ancient archive.
He was concerned about Elizabeth and he couldn't keep his mind focused on his work. Several images continued to roll around in his head. All of them involving her death at the hands of Ereshkigal. It honestly terrified him.
"This is hopeless. Elizabeth is in the hands of some crazy, disillusioned immortal-like being that is bent on our destruction." He stood up and slammed his palms on the wall.
Taylor frowned at him, knowing that the frustrating situation was getting to everyone. "McKay, we can't give up hope."
"Yeah, yeah. If you do the half full or half empty glass cliché, I will be sick." He slapped the wall two more times before he turned away from the wall.
"Uh, McKay?"
"What?" He asked with exasperation turning away from her not wanting her to see his face.
"What did you do?"
McKay rolled his eyes and spun back towards Dr. Taylor. It felt like his eyes were going to pop out of his head at the open compartment below where he had hit the wall. He pursed his lips, annoyed that this Ancient had so many hidden compartments.
Taylor pulled out the object inside the compartment. It was a book.
She opened the book. "It's a hand written journal. It belonged to Sinell. "
"Hand written? I'm surprised this Ancient didn't have a mini-hologram of himself. Besides there has to be something there besides some stupid old diary," he said as he stood up, looked inside, and saw that there was nothing else inside. He put is hand in the hole and knocked on each side, making sure that there wasn't an activation panel for another hidden compartment.
He sat back down. "Well, what does it say?"
She shot him a look before she began to read an entry from the middle of the journal:
"I fear that what I have done shall cause the loss of countless souls but I can not deny the power of the love I have for her. Her eyes are as blue as the sky on a cloudless day. I do not have the strength to resist but maybe one day someone shall be able to resist this enchantress."
"So, was he in love with her or did she somehow make him love her?" She said more as a reflection than a question.
"Does it matter? I don't know why you are reading that anyway. I doubt this will help us."
"Rodney, he said he couldn't stop her but maybe he left something behind to end Ereshkigal. I need to read this and find out."
She had never called him by his first name before and he was surprised. He decided that he had best let her read it. Maybe it would have something that would help them.
Ronon tried to hide the involuntary wince of pain from Dr. Beckett and Teyla but it was clear from the looks he received that they had indeed noticed.
"It is my fault. I couldn't stop her from taking Dr. Weir."
"No one blames you and you should not carry such guilt," Teyla said to him understanding how Ronon felt.
"I have been out too long and I am ready to return. Dr. Beckett is going to clear me for duty."
He wasn't concerned about the disbelieving look that Teyla was sending his way.
Sheppard walked into the infirmary his dark eyes standing out against his pale skin.
Ronon could tell that his friend hadn't had any sleep since Elizabeth had been taken and it had begun to take its toll.
"We have to get Elizabeth back. Are you two with me?"
Ronon felt his face mold into a grin. "Yes, I am."
"Colonel Sheppard, I have not cleared Ronon for duty."
"Well, Dr. Beckett, I follow all your orders to a T, but Ronon on the other hand, shall we say, follows his own orders."
Ronon saw Teyla's eyes look upwards and he could tell she was straining not to smile. He narrowed his eyes, stood up and loomed over Dr. Beckett, using his fierce battle look to be imposing.
The good doctor cleared his throat. "Very well. I know everyone is on edge since Dr. Weir has been taken and we need as many people as we can to get her back."
"Let's go see McKay and see if he's found anything useful."
Dr. Weir leaned against the cold wall of her prison wondering why Ereshkigal had brought her here. She had several vivid scenarios playing in her mind, she still couldn't fathom what Ereshkigal was planning.
She knew she was on the planet that Sheppard and his team had gone too before since the description of its people matched the guards that stood outside of her cell door.
The sound of a door opening down the hall from her cell had her stiffening up.
She heard voices on the other side of the door before it opened and Ereshkigal stepped inside. "Dr. Weir."
She didn't respond, knowing that it was better to see what her captor wanted.
She could see that her captor's gaze lingered on the plate of food that she had not touched.
"Not hungry?"
"Not really."
"Why is that?"
"I'm not in the mood to eat." She couldn't hold back any longer. She had to ask Ereshkigal a question. "You had the Wraith attack Atlantis and then you destroyed them? Why?"
"I used the Wraith to get you. Besides, the Wraith are abominations. They should never have existed."
"What are you talking about?"
"The Wraith were created by the Ancients. I thought you would have known their origin."
"We know the Wraith are related to the Iratus bug."
"That insect was a part of it, but they did need something else," she replied sweeping her arms out into an arc.
"You?"
She nodded and her eyes looked over Elizabeth's shoulder and into the past. "Those Ancients wanted to live forever and I was the key to their immortality."
"I helped them create the Wraith. With my blood and the Iratus bug, they created creatures that led their own doom. Apparently, some of them survived and now, their blood lies within your people."
"Why didn't you destroy Atlantis? You possess a powerful weapon that was able to destroy a Wraith ship."
The woman's eyes turned back to her, which sent a shiver down Dr. Weir's spine. "I have plenty of time, Elizabeth. Therefore, I shall take a long time to destroy Atlantis. Of course, Atlantis isn't the only thing I want."
"What do you want?"
"Your home world." The surprise and worry on Elizabeth's face brought a smile to the wicked woman's lips. "You really believe that I didn't know you are from another galaxy?"
"No matter what you do to me, you will never know it's location."
"I shall find your original planet and destroy all of those that remain with Ancient within them."
Ereshkigal turned away from her and walked out into the hallway. The door slammed shut, leaving Dr. Weir alone with her swirling thoughts.
