Tony woke up wearing the same smile he had gone to bed with. Their date the night before had been absolutely magical. He remembered every amazing detail. The way she felt in his arms and the soft tickling of her hair on his cheek as they danced. The way they never seemed to run out of things to talk about. It was like they had known each other forever-not just seven years. They didn't talk as friends - they talked as two people deeply in love. He rolled over and looked at the clock on his nightstand. Everyone would be getting up soon and wanting their breakfast. As much as he wanted to just stay in bed all day thinking about their date he knew that was impossible. Besides he had a surprise planned for her. More like a surprise and a promise. It was a little corny but he had never forgotten something pivotal she had told him when he first told her that he loved her. He couldn't wait to see her face when he showed her his surprise. He slipped out of bed and put on his robe and walked out into the hallway just as her door opened.
Her hair was pulled up in a messy bun with a few tendrils trickling down her face. She had on a pair of soft silky blue pajamas and to him she looked absolutely beautiful. He crossed over to her door and without a word pulled her into a good morning kiss.
"Well good morning to you too." she laughed.
"Good morning my love." he smiled at her. "So how did you sleep?"
"Wonderful." she grinned. "How about you?"
"Awful. I missed you." he said giving her his famous puppy dog look.
"Tony I was right across the hall." she giggled.
"I know. I know. But, I still missed you."
"Aw my poor baby. Here I'll make it all better." She cooed leaning in to kiss him. They were unaware of anything around them until Jonathon stepped out of his room.
"Please guys don't make me lose my breakfast before I eat it!"
"Get used to it kid." Tony said grabbing him in a bear hug.
"I am used to it. I just don't need to see it ." Jonathon laughed as he untangled himself.
"WHERE THE HELL IS MY BREAKFAST?!"
"Well I guess I'd better get downstairs before she has a fit." Tony said softly gazing into Angela's eyes.
"Yeah, I guess you'd better."
Only a moment passed before they were kissing again. Shaking his head Jonathon descended the stairs to find his Grandma pacing the front of the staircase.
"What's the hold up? I'm hungry!" she whined.
"They're up there kissing. Sorry Grandma but I think we're on our own."
"Maybe you are. But, I plan on having some of Tony's french toast."
"Good luck." Jonathon said and went into the kitchen.
HEY LOVEBIRDS! STOP THAT KISSING AND MAKE ME SOME BREAKFAST!"
Tony reluctantly pulled himself away and walked to the top of the steps. "Hold your horses Mona. I'm coming!"
"Well hurry it up!" she whined and walked into the kitchen.
Tony shook his head and went back to Angela. He pulled her into his embrace wanting to savor just a few more precious moments of peace and quiet.
"Honey?"
"Yeah?"
"You don't have any plans today around 1:00 do you?"
"No, why?"
"Cause I want to take you for a ride."
"A ride?" she asked untangling herself a little so she could look at him.
"Yep." he smiled at her. "Be ready to go at 1:00."
"I'll be ready."
They had been driving for about a 1/2 hour when he pulled off the side of the road. He removed the keys from the ignition and slipped them into his pocket. Confused she looked at him and out her window and then back at him again.
"Tony? Ummmm why did you stop here?"
Tony took her hand in his and raised it to his lips leaving a soft kiss on each of her knuckles. He then released her hand and stepped out of the jeep and walked over to her side and opened her door for her.
"Tony? What's going on?"
"Come on." he urged her gently offering her his hand.
She shrugged and placed her hand in his. She got out and he closed and locked the jeep up.
"Angela, I bought you here to make you a promise."
"You could have made it at home."
He shook his head. "No I couldn't. I have to do it here. On this road."
"Why?"
"Because of something you said when I first told you that I loved you. I never forgot it and one day I was driving to Brooklyn and something told me to take this road instead. I never go this way because it makes the trip about twenty minutes longer. But I went anyway and found this road. That's when everything became clear to me." He lifted his hands and gently place them on either side of her face. "This is our road."
"Our road? What are you talking about?"
Smiling he gently turned her so she could look down the road.
"Our road sweetheart. Like the one you told me you used to daydream about. The one with the blue skies and the birds singing. The one that we will from now on walk together."
Tears fell from her eyes as the meaning of the road became clear. He gently wiped them away.
"The promise I want to make to you is that I'll never let go of your hand again." he said softly offering his hand to her.
Smiling through her tears she slipped her hand in his.
He smiled back at her and they proceeded to walk down the road with the sun shining down on them and the birds singing their sweet melody.
