Prologue
It's been 25 years since Link and Zelda sealed away Ganondorf in the Sacred Realm, and returned peace to Hyrule. The land was peaceful, the people thriving in their era of peace. They had given birth to a son 4 years after the events of the war, and he had quickly become a loved prince by the people. Like his father, he craved adventure, and spent most of his time training with Impa, who was like a mother to him. Link had hung up his sword and shield, to become the king the people needed. He now wore a regal red cape, and a grey beard on his chin, his blue and gold tunic ironed every day. He had taken a liking to being king, not having to be in the line of danger at all times, able to save lives without losing any. He worked with politicians and council men, but he didn't mind. Hyrule was finally a place of peace, with treaties being put in place every day to ensure the safety of people.
Impa helped brush back Rego's hair, and make sure his clothes were ironed correctly. As his first treaty signing, he had to make a good impression on the foreign politicians, and Impa was there for him.
"Thanks, Imp." He said, as he tightened his boots.
"Of course...your highness." The aged woman said to him.
"Sage, Ninja, bodyguard and hairdresser. What else can you do?" He teased.
"Pool, very good at pool." She said with a smirk.
Rego sighed. "I'm ready."
She smiled. "You know, you're like the son I never had. I'm proud of you, Rego, as are your parents."
Rego smiled. "Thank you, grandma." He stepped out of his room, and was escorted to the carriage.
"Your highness's," Impa said to the Royal Family as they arrived to the signing of the Treaty of Takodonna. It was an opening on the edge of a cliff, where the grass was cut perfectly, the wind blowing calmly in the spot. It was in place to create a peace between the two lands, with Hyrule supplying Takodonna with fish, and Takoddona supplying medical supplies. Zelda stepped out of her carriage, her pink gown blowing in the wind as she was greeted with applause. Behind her, their son Rego stepped out, his face respectful and regal. He, like his father, wore a blue tunic, though his hair was brown and neat, unlike Link. Impa smiled at him.
"Your shoe is unlaced."
He looked down. "I hate you." He said with a smile. She smirked, a chuckle escaping her.
"So, how is it?" He looked around at the many official looking people. "Boring, I'll admit. I didn't expect my first signing to be like this."
She smiled. "Well, being a bodyguard is even more boring. Why can't someone try to kill you guys, I wanna have some action!"
Rego laughed. "You're 86, I'm surprised you're even allowed to bodyguard."
She shook her head. "I've got moxie yet, kid. Go sit down, it's about to start."
Rego sat down, beside his parents, as Impa walked to the edge of the cliff, where the stage was, so she could stand guard. The King of Takodonna, King T'Darta, walked up, his black cape flowing behind him. His face was regal and kind, and he smiled at the people.
"Hello, people of Hyrule, and thank you for welcoming me into your land with such open arms. We are here to sign this treaty, so we can work together with trade, and if it comes to it, we may defend against threats. Your enemies will become ours, and our allies will become yours."
Rego looked at Impa, who smiled. He felt off suddenly, a great dread filling him. The King continued.
"Our lands will now join, and be one, so our people can thrive in the peace King Link and Queen Zelda have forged so beautifully."
Impa perked up, sensing something. She looked over the edge of the cliff, as to see something.
"And now, let the signing come to-"
Impa gasped. "Everyone get dow-!"
An explosion from the cliff side shook the ground as flames and dirt leaped up, knocking the chairs and people flying. It was so sudden, the King had not moved, and was engulfed by the flames. Screams filled the air as the people realized what had happened. Rego grabbed his parents, picking them both up and dragging them behind a table. They were alive, but knocked unconscious. He leaped over the debris, onto what was left of the stage. The King's charred body laid motionless, among the rubble.
"IMPA!" He yelled, moving rocks. "GRANDMA, WHERE ARE YOU?!" He moved a rock, where a trickle of blood leaked out. He gasped as he saw the old woman's hair, covered in blood, as she lay dead on the ground. He kneeled down, cradling her head in his arms, as tears escaped him, sobbing into her bloodied hair.
Guards were all around, tending to the injuries. Rego sat alone, a cut on his head dripping blood slowly. Zelda walked up to him.
"Son..." She hugged him, and he sighed into her dress.
"Mom...she's..." Zelda nodded.
"I know...I know..." She pointed at Link, who had a cut on his head, but was speaking angrily with guards. "He's going to get them working on an investigation. We'll find out who killed her. We're going to get the White Council on it too, and the Investigators will find whoever did it." Rego waved his hand, clenching his fist.
"Don't bother, mother." He said, turning to stride away. "I'll kill them myself."
Woah! I got chapter one out of the prequel! YES, this is a prequel to my other two stories, Buildup to The Civil War, and The Civil War, so stop now, and read those if you haven't already! I'll be completely honest, I didn't even have a second of inspiration for this until I saw Captain America Civil War, and realized Rego could TOTALLY be Black Panther, and go after the killer of Impa. This will eventually lead to who Caesus is, and I'll reveal now, the killer of Impa is in fact related to Zelda, Link, and Rego, so.. ;) Please, please review, and tell me what you think!
