Stupid, old man.
It was yet another day of Naruto failing to be there for his family. Today happened to be Hinata's birthday, but like always Naruto simply didn't have enough time to be there for the celebration.
Okay but seriously, he couldn't even send a shadow clone?!
It frustrated Boruto to no end that his father was so absent. Not because he personally wanted his old man present, but because both his mother and sister deserved better. He just couldn't understand how they still managed to have hope that Naruto would show up. And seeing that hope dim, a slight look of disappointment flash across his mother's face before quickly being replaced with a wistful smile broke something within Boruto.
Okaasan shouldn't have to pretend everything is okay! She shouldn't have to be let down on a constant basis, she shouldn't-
It doesn't take too much to please Mama, a simple 'Happy Birthday' message would suffice. But father can't even give her that, when will he realize that he has a family waiting for him?
Sensing his pent-up anger was about to explode, Boruto quickly excused himself before completely ruining his mother's special day. He felt like barging in the Hokage's office and punching his father square in the face. The title of Hokage felt so undeserving for someone like his father. How could he be considered the greatest hero of his time and protector of the Leaf Village when he can't even be there for his family? In what sort of twisted logic does stupid paperwork take higher priority over his wife and daughter? Since when are the lives of strangers more valuable than those of your own family?! It just didn't make sense, and if being Hokage meant putting duty and status before your loved ones, Boruto wanted no part of it.
I wonder if he even realizes the hurt he inflicts upon Mama and Hima.
Boruto had to chuckle at the absurdity of his own thoughts.
Of course, he doesn't, he barely even spends time with them!
At times like these, he found that releasing his aggression helped calm him down. Usually, that meant that a couple of personal items were broken, mostly ones that reminded him of his father. So unfortunately for the picture frame on the wall featuring his father and his genin team, it received all of Boruto's pent-up frustration.
As soon as the glass shattered on the floor, Boruto came back to his senses and realized the grave mistake he just committed. That photograph meant a lot to his father, and mad at him or not, it was one of the only possessions he was not allowed to touch. This was common knowledge in the Uzumaki household, almost like an unspoken rule, a rule that Boruto just broke.
Fuck.
Luckily the photograph itself was not damaged, only the picture frame was busted. However, there was plenty of evidence that incriminated Boruto. Quickly, the blond began to pick up the shattered glass scattered across the floor. His mother needn't know what had happened, surely she had heard the ruckus but at this point, Boruto breaking items in a fit of rage was the norm. He always made sure to clean up after himself, refusing to give Hinata more work than what she already had. Which was exactly why Boruto was just in time for covering up his mistake.
I think we had spare photo frames in the closet….
Having put the shards of glass in the trash can, Boruto finally looked up to the blank space where the missing photo frame belonged. A small fragment of the wall protruded a bit, and if Boruto didn't know any better he would have thought it gave way to a secret compartment. Wait, what the fuck?! Is that actually a secret compartment?!
After a close examination, Boruto's suspicions were confirmed. I suppose I didn't go through ninja training for nothing.
Nonetheless, the young boy had no idea why there might be a secret compartment behind his father's childhood photograph. So letting his curiosity influence his actions, Boruto took a peek inside the hollow opening in the wall.
There he found a set of keys, ones he clearly recognized as a protected treasure of the Village Hidden in the Leaves. They opened hidden chambers, secret archives, along with all sorts of forbidden knowledge to anyone who wasn't the Hokage. Needless to say, it wasn't anything he expected to find in his home of all places.
Aren't these keys supposed to be in the Hokage office along with other precious items that required tight security/protection?
Well, the Hokage is his stupid father after all, so maybe it's not so far-fetched to find these precious keys in his house, behind a picture frame….
Boruto's prior frustration came back forth fold at this realization, and suddenly he had an amazing idea.
Why not use these keys? That should teach my old man a lesson.
The idea of what he could do with those keys brought a smirk to Boruto's face and a mischievous glint to his eyes.
….
Finding a spare photo frame was not as hard as he thought, and so having finished cleaning up his mess, Boruto decided to infiltrate the Hokage building first thing in the morning. But not without help from his good old friend Shikadai.
