I am alive! I came back from a vacation I needed from work and the year we all had. I had some writers' block with the fight scene because I was lazy with replaying the boss mentioned below and walkthroughs. Hope you people enjoy it.
Racing through the hallway with Caira slipping from her room, spine whip in hand. I placed my finger onto my lips as we crept to my room with the screams quieting down, replaced with sobs of pain.
"Are you able to see through without her noticing?" I asked, with her head shaking.
"Thresholds cannot restrict us reapers of souls. However, the person must be on death's door or undead." I rolled my eyes as I opened the door, expecting to find my bedroom, what I found was a cave with a quivering figure in a dark corner of the earthen home, shadows danced along the walls as we heard sounds of a whip with cries of pain coming from the figure. "Chun, lass? Are you hurt?"
The shadows turned their attention to us, lashed at the Irish woman and I and they took forms of the men we met of the Uber incident. This time they were armed, and dozens of them. They charged us. Caira used the butt of her scythe to knock out the enemies. I dodged the blade swipes, disarmed them, and knocked them out.
When they hit the floor, the shadows shattered like glass, leaving the Korean girl sobbing as the sounds of the whips became louder. "Caira, can you call some wraiths?" I screamed, getting a slice on my arm as I grabbed the attacker's head and kneaded his stomach over, and, over before slamming his head into the ground.
'They aren't real, so maybe…' I thought of the characters of video games and stories I've written, an amulet of sapphire appeared around my neck, encased in simple brass wire as its magic flowed over me like a river, with the magic came pain as wings grew from my shoulder blades, nails turned into claws, and a tail grew, lashing out as if tasting the air.
Forgetting the pain, the amulets' power activated, allowing me to turn invisible and silent, my claws sliced through shadows as I made my way to my newest ward, praying to someone that it would stop as my tail grabbed the nearest shadow and swung the shadowy creatures into its brethren. Pivoting on my heel, I became a tornado of claws, wings, and death.
With their demise, the sounds of whipping stopped as Caira's sickled chain wrapped around herself, calmly approaching Chun, comforting her as a portal formed on the wall, and through the portal came the 'tutorial' boss of Nioh. An Onryoki with massive balls of chain on each wrist.
"Oh, fudge me."
"What the bloody hell is that?"
"A boss of a game I played, blasted Team Ninja." My body absorbed the magic and stone and replaced it with some tonfa attached to my wrists with talismans, bombs, and ninja gear on my belt. On my back laid a bow and arrows and a rifle with a spear.
"Any tips?" Caira asked, coming near me, scythe in hand.
"From what I remember the first move will be him slamming the balls forward, so go around him and stab him in the butt, when he spins, I recommend not blocking because we don't know if we'll suffer any damage so run straight forward. In his second phase, the chains will break away and throw the balls at us followed by a body slam." I told her, bearing my tonfas and throwing my poison and fire shurikens, applying the sweet D.O.T to the boss.
"Got it." She raised her weapon and charged as the chained balls slammed where she once stood. Slashing the monster's legs, she struck the back and butt and dove away as I threw poison and fire shurikens, allowing the debuff effects to stack, causing fire and poison to chip away the boss's health.
I unleashed all my ammo on my person before the chains broke away as the boss's body slammed the floor as I went into High Stance with tonfas equipped. Going through combos blew my stamina away as I gained the aggro of the boss, as Caira slashed away before the boss growled in defeat.
The growls replaced with soft whimpers as the torches and cave webbed, shattered, and changed with Caira and I staring at my floor with Chun curled on the bed in a fetal position.
I made my way to the bed, careful not to startle the woman. I rubbed small circles on her scaly back as my eyes turned to my other student. "Get my phone, so we can communicate." She obeyed and retrieved my phone as I continued to rub the Demi-human's back.
After translating [Want to talk about it?] Sounds of pain escaped her lips
[They did stuff to me. I prayed to the God of protection. Why, why didn't he help?] Her body quivered as fresh tears stained the quilt.
"Caira, is it possible to go wherever your horse dragged the vampire?" Vapes of rage escaped my mouth as she grimly shook her head.
"No, only the dead can enter. The Goddess and her sisters may enter and leave as they please, but the living shall never enter. It is the job of the Dullahan to take the souls and keep them there, as well to prevent the living from entering lad."
[First, they invade my land, then I get invaded coming to an unknown land.] Her sobs once again filled the room with her horn scratching into the pillow when she shook her head in denial.
The shaking stopped, with Caira joining in comforting our newest student. I translated the following, [you are among friends and family. We will do what we can to help.]
Though her English was nonexistent, we heard her say thanks as sleep took control. The next morning, I felt a horn near my throat with a curtain of red blocking my sight. "I hope you weren't being bad. Otherwise, that would be catastrophic for you and your students." A voice called out, parting the cover from my eyes, adjusting to the sunlight. My eyes met a certain fairies' pink orbs as she sat on my nose.
Even with the morning haze in my mind, the words came out with their share of bed breath. "I can explain."
