Vault 81: Implementation or Sabotage?
OVERVIEW
The purpose of Vault 81 is twofold:
- To test the morality of an Overseer when faced with the prospect of painfully killing close friends and neighbors for experimental purposes. Dr. Olivette has been selected as Overseer due to her anti-authoritarian political beliefs and strong sense of the value of human life. Simulations indicate she deliberately sabotages the experiment 72% of the time, with the most common form of sabotage being destruction of the human test delivery systems (see below).
- To develop a universal cure for all human illnesses. Simulations indicate that the modified AI robot Contagions Vulnerability Robotic Infirmary Engineer ("Curie") should be able to perfect a cure within 100-150 years even if all scientists are prevented from entering the laboratory area due to sabotage. A crucial component of the baseline experiment is the testing of the cure on the live human subjects of Vault 81, who are to be admitted from the surrounding general population and are nearly guaranteed (greater than 99% probability) to know Dr. Olivette personally.
Per the original mandate of Vault 100, DO NOT interfere if Dr. Olivette "sabotages" Vault 81's experiment - this is an outcome that is considered within acceptable research parameters. Should this occur, Vault 81 is to be considered a standard Control Vault, and should be monitored for the following developments:
1. Willingness to open the Vault. On-site food and water systems are sufficient for approximately 200 years of continued habitation; simulations estimate genetic diversity should last until around that time. Your descendants should closely monitor the population for xenophobia and isolationist tendencies.
2. The evolution of the Overseer's role. Unlike Vault 101, Vault 81 is not deliberately designed to be closed forever and the Overseer has not been subconsciously compelled to act with absolute authority. Will the Overseer respect the voice of the community? Watch all audio and video feeds during the time period immediately following the sabotage, if it occurs.
3. Any and all social, economic, or political changes from the original Control Vault community.
