Chapter Summary:The Friends mysteriously fall ill and Misako and her crew run into trouble...
Chapter Two:
Lloyd groaned as he rolled over, sweat rolling down his forehead. Forcing his eyes open, he reached over and pulled his cell phone closer to him. "Ugh… Alexis call Zane…" Flopping backwards, he rubbed his face, wondering vaguely what was going on. He woke up fine, had gone to school...but he still wasn't sure what had happened. After he got back from the trip to the Museum, he slowly found himself feeling warmer by the second. By the time he got home, he was running a fever of one hundred and fifty-two degrees. Closing his eyes, he listened to his phone ringing endlessly, before it finally stopped.
"Lloyd...what do you need?" Zane's voice came over the phone's speaker, sounding rather raspy.
"No… you can't be sick too! I need your help...or your old man's help."
"I am afraid that we're on the way to the hospital right now. Do you want us to swing by and pick you up?"
"Since I'm running a fever of a hundred and fifty degrees… yeah."
"Running a fever of… Father! We must swing by Lloyd's place and take him with! He is running the same fever that I am!"
Lloyd vaguely wondered if Zane had forgotten that he was on the phone and thus Lloyd could hear his every word. Groaning, he closed his eyes, feeling exhaustion drag his eyelids close.
Lloyd forced his eyes open to find himself in a clean hospital room lying flat on his back on a bed, five other beds spread out in the room with five familiar forms lying on them. Moaning, Lloyd ran a hand through his hair, turning his head to look away from his quietly dozing friends. Apparently they had all needed to be rushed to the hospital after school. The door slid open as a doctor, along with a distinguished older man, walked into the room.
"I must say that this is quite baffling… every single test that we ran came back negative. If it weren't for the fact that they all have such a fever, I would think they were perfectly healthy." The doctor was speaking in hushed tones, almost as if he were afraid to wake the sleeping teens.
Dr. Julian tilted his head to the side, peering curiously at the doctor. "Surely you can figure something out? How about point of contact? You know… the most likely scenario to explain how the six of them caught...whatever this is."
"That is not going to be easy. With how you and the other parents reacted upon seeing each other, it is clear to me that the six of them are close friends. We can't simply say that so-so contracted the disease from so-so, and so-so gave it to so-so, and so forth and so forth. You said your son was fine this morning?"
"Yes. I would never have sent him to school if he wasn't. However he is sick now and I want answers!" Dr. Julian was definitely worried about Zane's wellbeing.
"I recommend that we keep them overnight for the next few days. According to the nurse, while they still have a fever, it has dropped considerably, which is a relief on its own."
"If you say so doctor. Exactly how much lower is it now?" Dr. Julian made to the door, his gaze darting to where his eldest son lay motionless.
"It has gone from a severe fever to a mild one."
Dr. Julian pulled the door open, making to leave the room. "I wish I could stay to watch over them but I have left Echo home alone and I just don't feel too comfortable to leave him for too long."
"Of course… allow me to see you out." The doctor followed Dr. Julian out of the room.
The second that the door shut behind them, Zane spoke up. "How is it that the doctors cannot find what is making us ill?"
Yelps rippled through the room as Lloyd, and the rest of his friends, shot upwards. "Zane! Give us a warning at least next time!" Nya snapped as she lifted a hand up to pinch the bridge of her nose.
"My apologies. I had thought you all had known that we were all awake."
Lloyd wrinkled his nose, confused about that presumption. "Zane… how would we know that if we had barely waken up… besides that, you could have just as easily woken us."
"Actually I woke up about twelve minutes before Dr. Julian and the doctor came in…" Kai timidly spoke up, raising his hand as he did so.
Nya gave a slow nod. "I woke up ten minutes before they came in."
Jay tilted his head, his eyes cloudy with the strange fever. "Try eight minutes before they came in."
Cole raised a hand up, a grunt escaping him. "Six minutes before."
All eyes turned to Lloyd, who sighed heavily. "Fine… about half a minute before they came in to check on us."
Zane hummed at that, before speaking up. "I woke up when they opened the door."
"Wait… if you were the last one up, how did you know that we were all awake?" Kai blinked rapidly, perplexed on how Zane knew that.
Zane paused, confusion clouding his eyes briefly. "I...don't know. I merely had a feeling that you all were awake and not asleep. It was a correct feeling."
Lloyd frowned, sure that there was more to it than just being a feeling. He wasn't sure how he knew that… he just did and something told him that it was important. Leaning back in his assigned bed, he stared at the ceiling, where a lightbulb was flickering wildly, wondering what was going on with him and his friends… for something had to have happened. No one just gets a fever without an illness behind it.
Misako hit two stones together to create a small spark to light the dry branch that they were using as a torch. Glancing around the dimly lit cavernous room that she and her crew were trapped in, she raised the makeshift torch higher. "Is everyone alright?"
"I think so Dr. Garmadon…" One of the younger archaeologists slowly sat up, rubbing his head where he sat on the rough ground.
"I'm not… I've got a boulder on my leg!" A young college-aged intern called out from where she was clutching the upper half of her right leg, a large boulder blocking the rest of her leg.
A middle aged man moved over to stand next to the intern, crouching down to examine the obstacle. "Misako… bring that light over here for a sec why don't ya."
Misako stepped around three others before she reached them, holding the makeshift torch up and out so as to light up the boulder. "How does it look Gary?"
"Not good. I think we can use some leverage to lift the boulder up just long enough to pull Clarice out from under there. I...don't think we should risk moving the boulder out of the doorway. The whole thing just might come crashing down on us if we do."
A/N: Done! Okay... I guess I don't have to worry too much about this chapter being too short. Anyways, the friends are temporarily in a hospital, and Misako and her crew is dealing with a cave in. Fun times. Also...Zane's sixth sense has been activated! Whoop whoop! Okay...that was weird. Ignore that. Um... oh dear... I haven't started writing the next chapter! Oops. Oh well. Doesn't really change anything.
Reviews:
Guest: Well...they were important in the last chapter. Now that they've been drained, *shrugs*. Glad to see that it's getting exciting for you. Hopefully this chapter is even more exciting. Since it's getting even closer to the main action.
PiratePirata: Okay... I know you sent that review in for the first chapter... but I didn't get it until after I had posted the second one. Sorry about that. Um, if you don't like it, no one is forcing you to read it. Trust me... my sister, catlovingmermaid, Cat for short, doesn't read just about...anything I write. She'll read the ones that are in her favorite fandoms or she begged me to write cause she refused to write it, that one turned out as lame as possible since I wasn't into it or ones that she actually enjoys...like Recruiting the Spiked Haired Boy. She even caught on a mistake that I had made in that one...after I had posted it. Oops. Still haven't gone back and fixed it...but no one has pointed out the time Jay wore the wrong outfit besides her...so we're good. Besides that, I can't remember if Jay wore Cole's outfit or Kai's outfit. I'm rambling. Please don't feel like you have to read it.
