Mount Justice.
November 30, 16:16 EST.

M'gann was in the middle of packing away the shopping that she and Conner had picked up on the way back from school when Conner's voice spoke into her mind. (M'gann, can you join me in the hanger?)

(Sure,) she agreed. (Should I try and find Tornado and Zatanna?)

(Probably not,) her boyfriend replied.

(I'll just be a minute then,) said M'gann, using her powers to quickly store away the last of the shopping and then fly towards the training room and then down the tunnel to the hanger.

When she arrived, Conner was standing beside his father, and the latter had just invited him to go somewhere.

"Where are you going?" M'gann asked as she landed next to them.

"Qurac," Conner replied. "Batman thinks that Queen Bee is going to have President Harjavti assassinated during the impeachment hearings."

M'gann gasped. "We've got to stop it!"

"Agreed," said Clark. "I was going to take one of the Planet's photographers with me, but Jimmy's come down with a stomach bug so he can't go. I was hoping that Conner could substitute."

"I can do that."

"Can I come?!" asked M'gann. "You could do a story on the Logan Animal Sanctuary at the same time."

"Sounds good," agreed Clark. "When can you leave?"

"I should probably call the Logans before we go…" M'gann replied. "Would later tonight be okay?"

"I can work with that," agreed Clark.

"Count me in," added Conner.

Quraci-Bialyan Border.
December 1, 09:15 EET.

"I'm dropping below the Bialyan radar and de-camouflaging," reported M'gann from Bio-Ship's pilot's seat.

"Marie's on the porch waiting for us," Conner declared. "Gar just joined her."

M'gann brought Bio-Ship down to the ground and then dropped a ramp at the rear of the ship.

Conner – dressed in jeans and a green checked shirt –was first to leave his seat, but Clark – dressed in his 'reporter' garb of tan suit and fedora – wasn't far behind. M'gann took a moment to switch from her Martian form to her Megan form, dressed in a tank-top and khaki shorts before joining the two Kryptonians on the ramp.

"Welcome back M'gann and Conner!" said Marie as she and her son walking slowly towards them.

Garfield sped up and enveloped M'gann around her middle in a warm hug. "It's good to see you!"

"It's only been a few days, Gar," observed M'gann with a giggle as she returned his embrace.

Marie caught up with the pair and joined them in a group hug for a moment, before breaking off and smiling at Conner. "Can you introduce us?"

Conner nodded, "Marie, this is my dad, Clark Kent of the Metropolis Daily Planet… also known as Superman… Dad, this is Marie Logan, she runs the Sanctuary and as Megan Wheeler in the sitcom Hello Megan! inspired M'gann as a child."

"Ma was a big fan of that show," observed Clark as offered her a handshake, which she accepted. "We're mainly here for the impeachment hearings, but M'gann suggested that I could do a story on this place at the same time."

"I can always use more support and publicity," observed Marie. "Follow me."

"Do you need to go with them?" Gar asked M'gann, a slightly pleading look on his face.

"Not yet," M'gann admitted as they broke out of their hug.

"Then you can catch me up on the gossip!" said Gar and tried to drag her back towards the house.

M'gann giggled a little but didn't object and allowed him to pull her along.

10:28 EET.

"So, what about 'ghosting through walls'?" asked Garfield as their 'gossip' session wound down.

"It's really hard," M'gann admitted. "But I'm getting better and Uncle J'onn is helping me…"

"Hey…" said Conner as he joined them.

"Are those for me?" M'gann asked, eyeing the bunch of red and white flowers that he clutched in his hand.

"I thought they looked pretty," said the Kryptonian bashfully.

"Uh guys…" interrupted Garfield hesitantly. "That's Quraci poison sumac. Probably won't hurt you guys, but you might want to wash your hands before touching Earthlings."

"It's the thought that counts," noted M'gann as Conner looked down at the flowers and scowled.

"Has to be…" Conner agreed as he turned and threw the bouquet into the distance. "… when you're dating…"

(Don't say it, don't even think it,) insisted M'gann as she turned him towards her and kissed him on the lips. (I won't stand for anyone ragging on my boyfriend… not even you, Conner Kent.)

(Yes, ma'am.)

"We still have a lot of work to do just to get back to where we were…" said Marie as she and Clark came towards them.

"Well, you're doing very well," Clark assured her. "My readers will be fascinated by your efforts."

Marie smiled politely, but M'gann didn't need to use her telepathy to know that she wasn't entirely convinced. "We should probably get going," she told the two Kryptonians. "The hearings are going to start soon."

They both nodded as she stepped off the porch and sent a telepathic instruction to Bio-Ship, which prompted her to transform into a recreational vehicle.

"That's handy," said Clark, a little surprised.

M'gann turned to Gar and then dropped down to his eye level as she transformed her tank-top and shorts into her uniform and reverted to her usual Martian green skin-tone. "I'll be back to see you soon, I promise."

"You'd better, sis!" declared Gar as she led the way to the Bio-RV and slid into the drivers' seat.

Dhabar.
17:16 EET.

(M'gann, link us up,) asked Conner as they entered the courtyard of the Democratic Palace.

(Done,) declared M'gann as Conner began to scan the crowd.

(There they are…) declared Conner, pointing towards where a stage had been set up. (President Rumaan Harjavti, his brother Sumaan and his daughter Noor… Queen Bee wants revenge against the president, so we have to stay alert.)

(Maybe Queen Bee will let it go this time?) suggested M'gann. (Maybe she's written Qurac off… we just don't know.)

Conner didn't reply, but mutely scanned the crowd, then looked up a moment later as a sound caught his attention. (M'gann… a rocket!)

But before M'gann could react, a familiar blue and red silhouette was streaking to intercept the weapon, so she turned to the next logical question as the square began to echo with a cacophony of Arabic. (Conner, do you see the shooter?)

(Concrete skyscraper, third from the right,) he reported promptly. (On the roof.)

(On my way,) said M'gann, quickly glanced around to make sure that no-one was looking directly at them, then reverted to her Martian form and camouflaged herself, flying towards the sniper's perch. (Follow as soon as you're clear of the crowd.)

(Right behind you.)

To M'gann's surprise, Conner actually arrived on the roof before she did, and was able to block much of the barrage of machine gun that the assassin – a white-helmeted, monocled mercenary known as Deadshot if she remembered the League files correctly – switched to after his rocket attack failed.

"Your bullets can't hurt me, coward!" yelled Conner as he charged towards the man, then leapt the final few feet to tackle him into a wall and began to pound on him. "Not so tough now are you?!"

"Superboy, stop!" demanded Clark, as he flew up behind him and grabbed him under the arms, pulling him away from the assassin.

"He's a killer!" insisted Conner. "He deserves what he gets!"

"That's not how we do things!" Clark retorted.

Conner shrugged for a few more minutes, then eventually calmed and was set back on his feet by the older hero.

(He's not usually like this…) M'gann told Superman as he bent to check on Deadshot. (I mean, he used to be, but recently he's been much better.)

Clark ignored her and picked up the assassin and took flight. "This man needs medical attention."

"At least President Harjavti is safe," observed M'gann as she watched the elder hero fly away. "We stopped Queen Bee from taking revenge so that's good, right?"

21:16 EET.

Conner had calmed down and was a little contemplative by the time Clark returned from the hospital.

"Deadshot will fine," reported the elder Kryptonian as he took his seat in Bio-Ship's cockpit.

"That's good," said Conner shortly, from his own seat on the other side.

They sat in silence as M'gann took off, but as they were crossing the desert, Conner spoke up. "I… was not myself today."

"That's okay," M'gann assured him. "Everyone has their off days…"

Clark nodded.

Conner shook his head, "It's not that simple. What happened with Deadshot wasn't just because I was having a 'bad day'… last week when I left Smallville, I went back to Cadmus, found a few things out… the reason that I don't have full-Kryptonian powers is that I'm only half Kryptonian."

Clark was the first to get over his shock at that revelation. "I assume that your other half is human? One of the Cadmus people?"

Conner nodded.

"Who?" asked M'gann. "Was it Guardian…?"

"I wish," said Conner with a snort. "Even Desmond would be an improvement on my other 'father'… Lex Luthor."

"Luthor!" exclaimed Clark, then his eyes narrowed as he thought of something. "I thought I saw you flying when you headed for Deadshot… did Luthor have something to do with that?"

"He did," agreed Conner morosely and slipped a hand into a pocket and pulled out a slim black case. "He gave me these… Luthor calls them Shields, they suppress my human DNA so that I get the flight, the heat vision… but I think they make me angry… angrier."

"Wow," said M'gann.

"Luthor also implanted a physic trigger in my mind," Conner continued. "With two words, he can shut me down for hours."

"I can probably help with that," M'gann offered. "Or if I can't, I'm sure my uncle can."

"That would be great," said Conner with a sigh of relief.

"We should go down to the Fortress," Clark suggested. "I'm sure that anything that Luthor can create Kelex can at least replicate… maybe even improve on them in time."

"Really?"

"We won't know until we ask," Clark admitted. "But it wouldn't surprise me if the anger was built into the Shields to make you easier to manipulate. That would be exactly his style."

Conner nodded, brightening. "When can we go?"

"You've got school tomorrow," Clark reminded him. "I'll also need to set things up… maybe sometime next week."

Conner sagged a little in disappointment.

"We can investigate that physic trigger before then," suggested M'gann, which perked him up a bit and coaxed a small smile from him.

"You'll let me know how that goes?" asked Clark.

"Of course," M'gann agreed after a nod from Conner.

Mount Justice.
December 5, 17:03 EST.

M'gann was sparring with Zatanna under Red Tornado's supervision when the Zeta-Tube spun up and Green and Red Arrows stepped out.

Zatanna broke off and stepped towards the two archers. "Is Artemis coming?"

Red Arrow scowled and Green Arrow shrugged then answered. "She didn't mention any other business when we last talked," replied the older archer. "Probably."

"Can we help you with something?" asked Kaldur as he stepped away from where he was refereeing a bout between Conner and Wally and moved to join them.

Before either archer could reply, the Zeta-Tube spun up again. "Recognised, Arrowette B-Zero-Seven."

"Artemis… just in time!" declared Green Arrow as the blonde archer stepped out into the Mission Room. "Look who's agreed to join the Team?!"

"Finally!" exclaimed Wally, flinging his arms wide in joy.

"Sure…" drawled Artemis, striking a pose with one hand on her hip and the other palm raised. "The Team has needed a real archer."

"Okay, people, listen up," said Green Arrow, trying to get back to business. He strode over to the middle of the training ring and pulled a holo-keyboard and several screens. "The Dynamic Duo's on a case in Gotham, but Batman gave me a heads-up. Sportsmaster was spotted coming through Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport."

"In full costume?" asked Zatanna. "Nervy."

"In street clothes," corrected Green Arrow. "Facial recognition software picked up the ID. Find out what he's up to."

"All of us?" asked Conner, a little peeved. "Seems like overkill for a shadow job."

"Perhaps a small squad…" suggested Red Tornado. "Miss Martian's camouflage abilities seem ideal."

"I thought the sidekicks… sorry, ex-sidekicks could suit-up on this," suggested Green Arrow. "Aqualad, Kid Flash, Red Arrow…"

"Good," said Conner, folding his arms across his chest. "Stakeouts make me crazy."

"We could use the night off," agreed M'gann.

"I want in," said Artemis abruptly. "With M'gann and Robin out… no one has logged more hours piloting Bio-Ship."

"Artemis… are you sure?" asked Green Arrow, worry tinging his words.

"Absolutely," declared Artemis firmly.

22:16 EST.

"No offense, guys, but even my boredom is bored!" declared Zatanna dramatically.

"Maybe a night off wasn't the best idea," M'gann suggested regretfully,

"Red Tornado have you got any good stakeouts for us?" asked Conner.

"I do not, you must amuse yourselves," he replied, then stepped back from the holo-screen and took off into the air, flying up into the portal in the ceiling as the trio and Wolf looked on.

"That's Tornado's apartment, right?" asked Zatanna once the portal closed again.

"It is," agreed M'gann.

"But Tornado doesn't eat or sleep or change clothes or, well, anything…" Zatanna pointed out.

"So?" asked Conner.

"So, what does he do up there?" replied Zatanna and smiled mischievously.

23:16 EST.

"I wonder where he's going?" wondered Zatanna as Red Tornado dropped down from his apartment and headed for the tunnel to the beach rather than the Zeta-Tube.

"Don't know," replied Conner as they followed him from a discrete distance.

Their 'den-mother' didn't look back as he walked out onto the beach and took off.

"Coast is clear," reported Conner as Red Tornado disappeared into the cloud cover.

"Let's go and check out his apartment while he's away!" suggested Zatanna mischievously.

"Now's probably the best time," Conner agreed and M'gann nodded her own agreement.

"Let's go then!" cried Zatanna and lead the way back to the Mission Room. "Etativel! Hctah siri nepo!"

The hatch irised open and allowed her to fly through, with M'gann only a few lengths behind her to find a room decorated with a variety of seasonal decorations.

Several lights flicked on with a mechanical whirr as Conner joined, one of them highlighting a vaguely body-shaped form on a gurney, covered by a red sheet.

"Is that what I think it is?" asked Zatanna, bewildered.

"It looks like some sort of robot," answered M'gann.

Conner didn't comment, but reached over and pulled off the sheet, exposing what looked like a cross between a robot and shop dummy.

The trio were silent for a moment, then Zatanna spoke up, still clearly confused. "So is Red building a friend or what?"

At that moment, there was a stiff breeze and the rest of the chamber's illumination came up to full brightness.

"Perhaps you should ask Red," suggested Red Tornado.

"Wolf," growled Conner, then jerked a thumb back at their new discovery. "All right, what's with the new 'bot?"

"I am a robot," corrected Red Tornado. "This is an android. He will serve as my alter ego, John Smith... and allow me to download my consciousness so that I may walk among humans, interact and learn."

"I think it's a wonderful idea," said Miss Martian.

"Your approval is appreciated," noted Red Tornado. "But your presence is uninvited… is this a sign of disrespect?"

"Uh, curiosity," said M'gann.

"Boredom," offered Conner.

"You know, he's cute…" observed Zatanna. "But if the goal is human interaction... Evig mih stnap! He really needs pants."

The red sheet which was lying on the floor where Conner had dropped it, flew upwards and curved towards 'John Smith' before forming into a pair of red slacks and slipping onto the android.

December 6, 03:16 EST.

Bio-Ship's return roused M'gann out of her sleep. (Kaldur, how did it go?)

(Have the rest of the Team meet us in the Mission Room,) he replied, his tone giving away nothing as usual. (I will brief you then.)

A few minutes later, the whole Team and Red Tornado met in the Mission Room. Several conversations immediately sprung up, but with everyone talking over each other, it was hard to make anything out until Aqualad called for silence. "Let me be clear… we failed. Though the Injustice League is in custody, their allies still scheme... and we have learned nothing of their plans."

"Gee, I wonder why," commented Red Arrow sarcastically.

"Hey, who found out Sportsmaster was working for Brain, Klarion and Ivo?!" exclaimed Artemis.

"Yeah, great intel," drawled Red Arrow. "Except Ivo's been in Belle Reve the whole time… and the guards just checked. It's the real, not a robot."

"You know, I'm getting pretty tired of you dumping on her," said Wally, moving to confront his old friend, who said nothing, but held up a small device.

"Her tracer, so?" said Wally. "Cheshire ditched it."

"No," contradicted Red Arrow, motioning to another tracer that Kaldur was holding. "Artemis ditched that to send us on a wild goose chase… She put this one on Cheshire."

"Artemis?" asked Wally, visibly surprised. "Are you that freaked out about Arrow joining the team that you had to prove yourself by bringing down the bad guys solo? Please tell me I'm wrong…"

He trailed as Artemis sighed, threw him a pleading look for a moment and then looked down. "Well, nice going," he snapped. "What you proved is that you're insecure and selfish. Keep the sai."

He threw the weapon down at her feet and reached around to pluck the tracer from Red Arrow's hand. "This is the right souvenir for the mission."

"So how will you betray us next time?!" snarled Red Arrow as Wally walked away.

"Enough!" demanded Kaldur, placing a hand on his friend's shoulder. "If making a mistake was a betrayal, we would all be traitors. I must report to Batman. The rest of you, get some sleep."

At their leader's urging, the group broke up with Red Arrow, Artemis and Wally disappearing into the Zeta-Tubes and the others heading for their quarters in the mountain.
