Chapter Summary: Training Montage!
Chapter Seven:
Lloyd woke with a start, his heart thudding loudly in his chest. He just had the weirdest dream. The old janitor that almost seemed to follow him and his friends everywhere was in fact his paternal uncle and a very ancient sorcerer of some sorts. Oh and apparently Lloyd and his friends had magic too. Pushing himself up onto his elbows, he glanced around the room he was in... to see that it was the guest room that he had claimed in his dream... which meant... "Oh man that wasn't a dream!"
Lloyd flopped back down, pulling his borrowed pillow over his head. A knock on the door made him groan as he rolled over. "No! I'm not up yet!"
The door creaked open, the floorboards creaking even louder to signal that whoever it was, was ignoring his claims of still being a sleep. "Lloyd? Come on, your, uh, uncle says breakfast is now or never." Cole nudged Lloyd, amusement edging his voice.
Lloyd groaned, before rolling over to give his friend a pretty good stink eye if you ask him. "I thought it was all a dream."
"Nope." Cole sat down on the edge of the bed, placing a hand on Lloyd's shoulder. "Honestly, don't be surprised if we all thought it was just a dream. I mean, seriously? This is going to take a while to get the hang of... oh. And he said to tell you that training starts immediately after breakfast."
Lloyd groaned, pulling his pillow over his face once more. Somehow, something told him that this wasn't going to end well... at all...
"Training starts...NOW!" Sensei Wu exclaimed as he slammed his staff into the ground, causing an obstacle course of sorts to rise up out of the ground. "Finish the course before I finish my tea to complete the physical part of your training." He then settled down to start pouring his tea.
Lloyd and friends glanced at each, before curling their fingers together. "Right... let's get going." With that, they leapt into the course... only for it to throw them right back out before they even passed the first obstacle.
"Oh dear..." Sensei Wu sighed as he sat his finished cup of tea back down.
"The most basic spell that everyone learns first is the Shield Charm." Sensei Wu moved his arms in a slow circle, his eyes narrowed in concentration as a shimmering gold colored circle appeared in front of him. Straightening, he dropped the magical Shield. "Now you try."
Lloyd stretched his hand forth, moving it in the same slow circle that his uncle had done... only nothing happened. A quick glance over at his friends revealed that they were having the same troubles with summoning the Shield Charm that he was dealing with. "This is impossible. You must have made a mistake." Lloyd left the room, frustration bubbling up in him. He had missed school for this, made his friends miss school for this!
"Lloyd..." Sensei Wu moved to reach his nephew, only for Kai to step between them.
"Yeah... I agree with him. This is ridiculous."
"Same here." Cole scoffed loudly as he followed Lloyd out of the room.
Jay opened and closed his mouth several times, before shaking his head at the elder. Nya slipped past silently, a frown on her features. Zane approached the sorcerer nervously, his gaze darting to the doorway that his friends had disappeared through. "I am afraid that I agree with my friends. We appear to be unable to do anything correctly. I don't think we have this Power of the Dragons as you put it, in us." With that, the calm teen left the room, leaving Sensei Wu alone once more.
"Why didn't the training exercises work? Ninjas always catch on within seconds..."
Kai strummed his guitar, ignoring the way everyone appeared to be ignoring his depressed playing. After awhile, he looked up, frustration flashing in his eyes. "Are we staying here for the night? Or are we leaving now?"
"We might as well leave. I mean, it's not like these guys that Sensei Wu fought centuries ago will come here anyways. He said that they were after some scroll." Lloyd scoffed as he stood up abruptly.
With that the friends moved as one to the door. Thunder suddenly cracked loudly, startling them greatly. Snapping their heads up, confusion clouded them as they noticed that the clear blue skies had been replaced with dark, angry looking clouds. Sensei Wu rushed forward, panic dancing in his eyes. "Get back inside and head. This is caused by Dark Magic."
A cackling evil laugh reached their ears as a bony figure appeared in front of the monastery's gate. "Glad to see that you haven't forgotten anything old man."
Sensei Wu whipped his staff around, whipping up a small dust cloud behind him. "I still have my touch."
Lloyd was frozen, staring at the scene before him with rapidly growing panic. A pair of cool hands seized him from behind, dragging him back into the building. "Lloyd! Come on!" Kai made a shooing motion with his hands as he scrambled backwards after the stunned teen.
Once safely inside, Lloyd twisted his arm around, loosening the grip on them. "You can let me go Zane."
"Sorry." Zane quickly released the teen, before suddenly freezing as he stared at his friend. "Lloyd... you could always tell who was behind at all times. Even when we were little."
"Yeah... so?" Lloyd rubbed his shoulder as he leaned against the wall nearest a window.
Jay rolled his eyes skyward as he waved his arms around frantically. "So what if that was your magic showing itself? Your like hyperaware of your surroundings!"
"Okay... we have magic... but we don't know how to use it! We tried and we quite. It's too hard." Nya grumbled as she crossed her arms.
Cole bent down, picking something up off of the ground. "Maybe our problem is that we were trying too hard. Remember when we all started playing our music? Or were learning how to skateboard? The more we thought about what we were doing, the more difficulties we had. Maybe it's the same with this magic and ninja stuff. We can only do it if we allow ourselves to relax."
"How can we relax!? My mom is in danger! We don't have time for any of this!" Lloyd yelled frustration blooming inside of him. However, as he spoke a green orb with gold sparks formed above him, and was rapidly growing in size...
A/N: Done! Phew... I am not good with training montages I don't think. Sorry about that. Um... can't really think of anything to say... How ya'll like that cliffhanger?
