Hi gang, it's a little bit of filler, since it would make sense after the last chapter for Bella to suddenly show up in Forks and starting school.

Chapter 3

After a short flight they landed in LA, the start of a short vacation before she'd start a new life, she knew it would take some time to process everything. Doug had arranged a town car to take her to her new hotel and they amicably parted ways. When she got to her hotel, she got confirmation Charlie had signed for the house and she called her bank to transfer the money to Mrs. Cullen. She was taken to her suite by the bellboy who carried her luggage. As she walked into her penthouse suite she realized it was bigger than her old house, definitely bigger than most apartments. She gave the bellboy a tip when he was finished unloading her luggage and thanked him. As soon as she was alone her sadness overpowered her in waves, ending in her collapsing on the bed in the master bedroom in tears.

Bella spent the next few days wandering around LA, doing mainly touristy stuff and hanging out on the beach. Slowly putting herself back together piece by piece. Calling Charlie had become a daily thing, which was for the better, it forced her to pick herself off the floor every day. Having eventually unpacked her duffels, she saw her clothes for what they were, most were thrift store bought, Renee never wanting to spend any money on clothes for her and she always had to wear them until they had become ragged. She had decided to upgrade her wardrobe a little and discovered that you could hire a stylist, she eventually met up with one. Bella hated shopping, regardless of the kind of store but with the stylist it was a fairly tolerable affair.

She made a mental note to look for a stylist in Seattle, knowing she'd need a Forks appropriate wardrobe, the jeans jacket and couple of hoodies she had gotten in LA wouldn't cut it for very long. But for now she was happy with her new hairstyle and new look. Later she dropped by the Apple store close to her hotel to pick up a new phone and got a new MacBook, which was way faster than that old dinosaur of a laptop she had brought with her from Phoenix.

One morning she got up, looked at her new stuff and clothes and started thinking. 'I need something to do, something useful.' LA is a city like any other, with more than its fair share of social problems. After getting her bearings she started volunteering in several places going above and beyond to help some people.

After nearly a week in LA being driven around by cabs she decided that she was in need of some wheels, before having her own car was never in the realm of possibilities. The only reason she had been able to get her license was due to Renee wanting to be chauffeured around in her old Toyota Camry. And as it turned out LA truly was a city where everybody drove, it didn't have the greatest of public transport systems and was a very stretched out city. She had looked at various dealerships earlier and eventually wandered into a dealership close to her hotel, an obviously luxury and sports vehicle oriented dealership. It didn't take long for a salesman to come over asking how he could be of assistance, her new clothes came in handy in these fancier establishment, it made them treat her seriously.

"Well I'll be moving to a small town soon, up north. I would like to go fast but I don't want to attract too much attention with something this flashy, so I'm not sure you'll be able to help." Bella said honestly while pointing at a few brand new sports cars and luxury coupes that were absolutely gorgeous but she thought lacked real charm.

"We do have a few more older vehicles in stock that are somewhat lower profile vehicles." The salesman said as he led her to the other side of the showroom.

That's where Bella saw the car for the first time, she knew immediately that it was a Porsche from the shape. "Which version is that black Porsche specifically?" she asked while pointing at the car, immediately having fallen in love with the vintage vehicle.

"That's a recently rebuilt and modded 1994 Porsche 911 Turbo 3.6 liter. Despite plenty of things no longer being original such as the engine, suspension and brakes, I'm afraid it's still a pretty expensive car." The salesman said intending to orientate the young woman to some of the somewhat more affordable used inventory.

"Don't care, I need that car." Bella said as she pulled out her black card. "And I can afford it." She said with a cheeky smile, stunning the salesman. "How quickly can I get it on the road do you imagine?"

"Well we can get it registered to you and insurance today if you want, but are you sure this is a lot of car and a lot of money." The salesman said once recovered.

"Very sure, it is perfect. Let us get started on the paperwork." Bella said nearly drooling over the old Porsche.

While the salesman got started on the paperwork, Bella was served an espresso, her eyes wandered over to the stack of folders that was on the man's desk. "Do you mind?" she asked while pointing at them.

"No but these are folders from companies we don't really do business with, we tend to sell factory cars, not modified ones, your soon to be Porsche is a rare exception. But the folders keep coming regardless." He said given her permission to go through them anyway.

She started going through them to pass the time, most were from companies that provided luxury interiors, completely customized cars to turn them into a completely different looking car. Even she had to admit she wasn't a fan, she eventually ended with a folder from a company called Shelby American they offered several vehicles directly through ford but their mainstay was Mustangs, the modifications they do are mainly performance orientated, from what she had found on the internet the regular Mustang GT was already not a slouch, but this added a nice performance boost and the few styling changes were nice.

"Can I buy one of these through you guys and have it delivered to Washington?" she asked the busy salesman handing him the folder opened on the mods she wanted.

"Yes but you will need a Shelby mustang GT500 first, we would of course be happy to handle everything for you, including buying a GT500. Would you want a new mustang or a used one?" He asked once he went over the folder.

She chose to get a new mustang and they handled everything, the factory car was specified to Bella's desires as was the extensive modifications that would be done to it. The salesman made a few calls, including to Shelby American to make sure the modifications she wanted were all possible and the ball started rolling on it all, they found a dealer that had Bella's specified mustang in stock brand new and arrangements were immediately made for it to be shipped to Shelby's facility in Las Vegas. By the time business hours were almost over Bella had paid for everything with her centurion card and she left, knowing that soon she'd have her own wheels.

After taking delivery of her Porsche the next day, Bella went back to the routine she had established. She cloud regularly be found at the beach surfing, helping out where she could, donating food to the food banks and helping out in soup kitchens. If anything she could easily live a life of volunteer work, wherever she went people became more hopeful. Those desperate to end it, wanted to live. Where she could she picked up the slack left by overworked social workers. During their daily calls Charlie gently reminded her that school had started already in Forks, so with a heavy heart she decided to leave the city of angels, but also with a sense of relief. She had a ever increasing amount of memories come back to her every night, she started to ever increasingly believe she was an angel, but if she really was one, then what was she now? A fallen angel that was born human as a form of punishment? 'Forks wouldn't be holding any answers, but at least it's the kind of place that keeps questions at bay.' Was often on her mind while getting ready to leave.

She packed up her Porsche and started driving in the very early morning, she had told Charlie she had left the day before, in reality she knew she could make the drive in less than twelve hours if she put her foot down. But for obvious reasons Charlie wouldn't like it that she was driving at high speeds using a radar detector and laser jammers to avoid getting caught.

Having left LA at five in the morning meant she got to Charlie's new house at four thirty in the afternoon having made good time on the high speed but otherwise uneventful drive, Charlie believing she left the day before was none the wiser about how fast she had been driving. She parked her Porsche in the driveway. The Porsche's exhaust rumble had notified Charlie of her arrival, the front door opened as she turned the engine off and Charlie came rushing over. As soon as she got out of her Porsche Charlie pulled her into a uncharacteristic hug.

"So glad you made it here safely Bells, I'm sorry I didn't fight for custody." Charlie said.

"It's ok dad, I'm here now. You have nothing to be sorry for." Bella said as she hugged back her emotionally awkward father.

It didn't take long for Charlie to break off the hug.

"Let me help you with your bags." He said while moving to the rear of the Porsche trying to figure out how to open the engine lid that was dominated by a massive spoiler.

"Dad that's where the engine is." Bella said while laughing.

The embarrassed Charlie recovered as soon as Bella started pulling her bags off the back seat taking both duffels. Bella opened the trunk to pull out her one case. She was amazed as she walked into Charlies new house, all of it may have been new but it really felt like a home. Mrs Cullen had truly outdone herself with the interior decorating. Somewhat embarrassingly a line of yearly school pictures of Bella lined the chimney, she'd have to ask Charlie to put them away, at least for as long as she'd live with him.

"Wow, dad. I love your new house." Bella said enthusiastically.

"Bells it's you-" Charlie started before Bella cut him off.

"Dad please stop, I know this is expensive and all that but you have to understand, to me now this is like buying you a steak or something. You have always done your best for me, you've been more of a parent than she ever was or will be. That's why you deserve a nice comfortable house, with a ridiculously oversized tv in the living room to watch your beloved sports games on. And it's why I've come to live here with you to finish my high school education. So please tell me what it is that makes it so difficult for you accept this gift?" Bella asked.

"Bells it's too expensive, no child should have to buy a house for a parent." Charlie said while sighing.

"Dad, trust me when I say this doesn't make a dent in my bank account. And I didn't do this because I felt I had to, this is not a bribe so you would let me live with you either. I know you would have taken me in no matter what. Do you know why I stayed in LA so long?" Bella asked Charlie.

"No, not really, I imagine you must have liked it there, it's sunnier than Forks that's for sure."

"Because I spent most of my time volunteering in soup kitchens and shelters dad, helping others. I really like helping people. You needed help with a new house. Aside from the fact I had something to work through of course. Now let's go bring my stuff up to my new room." Bella said.

They brought Bella's duffel bags and suitcase up to her room, which happened to be the master bedroom technically but Charlie had been insistent that he took the second largest bedroom. Esme had carefully selected the decorating per Bella's wishes, it fit the slightly rustic theme the house had. She loved the four poster bed with it's carefully wrapped around twinkle lights, she also had her own TV, not that she watched a tremendous amount but it was better than having to make Charlie not watch one of his sports games. And a nice desk and a private sitting corner, the bathroom featured a shower and a copper bathtub. And overall it was finished in white with purple accents. She started unpacking and putting away her mostly non Forks proof clothing and toiletries in her en suite bathroom. Around dinnertime Charlie knocked on her bedroom door, she quickly gave him permission to enter.

"What's up dad?" She asked as he came into the room."

"Uhm, well I realized that I never really laid down any rules for living under my roof, this is all still a little strange. I realize you're legally an adult of course but if you want to live here you got to respect school night curfew of eleven and let me know whenever you leave Forks. Speaking of school are you going to start tomorrow?" Charlie asked while shuffling about with his feet, not knowing if he should go into full dad mode or not.

"Sure that's reasonable, I'm afraid I can't go to school tomorrow though I have a couple of appointments in Seattle, got to see my new accountant and get some Forks proof clothes. Though I suppose I could turn in the registration paperwork in the school on the way to Seattle."

"OK, do you want me to come with you? Seattle is a big city Bells, I have tomorrow off anyway." Charlie said.

"You don't have to come dad, but if you want to, you're welcome to come along, I'm driving." Bella said preventing Charlie from suggesting to take the cruiser, she had often found it embarrassing to be driven around in his cop car when she was younger and couldn't imagine that being any different now.

"I'll gladly come, a little father and daughter time, as long as the shopping won't take too long." Charlie said somewhat hesitantly.

"Don't worry dad, I'm still not a fan of shopping, I have a appointment with a stylist, she has already picked out a bunch of outfits for me to choose from, it goes pretty quickly and we won't be going to a bunch of stores. Just dress nicely to meet with the accountant." Bella said.

"There's pizza downstairs if you're hungry, one for you one for me." Charlie said which reminded Bella she hadn't eaten since breakfast.

"Ooh excellent, I'm starving." Bella said as she put away her last items of clothing.

She had dinner with Charlie, spent most of the evening with him and before she eventually retreated upstairs she finished her school registration paperwork. Once in her room she quickly went to soak in her bathtub for half an hour and eventually falling asleep in her bed with her head in yet another novel. She woke up at six in the morning, still enough time to have a good breakfast before leaving for Seattle. Still in her sweatpants and t-shirt sleepwear she went downstairs to get started on breakfast.

By the time she started on the eggs she was joined by a semi-conscious Charlie who grunted good morning while he headed straight to the pot of coffee she made pouring himself a cup. They ate their eggs and bacon breakfast, putting the dishes in the dishwasher before they went to get ready. Bella put on the one pant suit she had gotten in LA, she had at first not really gotten it why the stylist she used there had been a little insistent that she'd get at least one but by now she had understood the advantage of looking professional at the right times. So the navy pantsuit with a white blouse, heels and a watch worked miracles when she wanted to look professional. Having always preferred a natural look, she took it easy with her make up and hair. When she got downstairs Charlie was waiting for her, she had not been prepared for his clothes. Charlie was wearing an old suit, it was probably already out of fashion when he had bought it and it didn't fit him very well at all, it looked like his jacket had been unable to close the last ten years.

"Dad, is that your best suit?" Bella asked carefully.

"Uh yeah, I don't need one often really." Charlie confessed.

"We'll get that taken care of." Bella said confidently.

Before leaving the house she called the stylist asking if she could add a store for a nice off the rack suit for her father. Excited for her new wealthy client the stylist said it was no problem at all and they quickly exchanged some basic size information for Charlie. After hanging up they got into Bella's Porsche and started driving. She stopped at the local high school to quickly drop off her paperwork. The lady working the desk had just arrived in the still mostly abandoned high school.

"Hi how can I help you?" she asked as Bella walked in while sitting down at the long reception desk that had a row of baskets with papers in them.

"Hi I'm Bella Swan, I'll be starting soon, I just came in to drop of my registration paperwork today. I've signed it in all the right places." Bella said as the handed her the folder she was carrying.

"I'm Mrs. Cope, I'm afraid I can't accept the paperwork. Your father the sheriff will have to sign your registration given you're a minor." Mrs. Cope said.

"Yes I figured you might say that, though I have come to Forks to live with my father, I have recently been emancipated. Legally I'm an adult and I'm not just allowed to sign my own paperwork but I'm legally required to do so. I have included a copy of my proof of emancipation." Bella said.

"Oh, that's unusual around here." Mrs. Cope said as she started going through the paperwork, carefully looking at the proof of emancipation. "Well it seems to be in order, I can give you a temporary class schedule so you can get started today. I must say though, you don't need to dress up like that to attend school here, we don't have a professional attire dress code." She said after looking over the paperwork.

"I'm actually not going to be able to start today, I'm heading to Seattle, I don't plan on wearing clothes like this to school. I have some business to attend to today, I don't plan on making it a regular occurrence. I was in the advanced placement program in my former high school are there any classes available here?" Bella asked.

"We offer AP English and Lit, History, Biology, Calculus and Physics." Mrs. Cope answered.

"I took all of those except Calculus, so if you could put me in them I'd appreciate it. I'm afraid I have to go now, got a ferry to catch."

"Drive safe, I'll get your school records transferred today and your schedule made by tomorrow morning." Mrs. Cope said.

"Thank you, see you tomorrow." Bella said and gave the woman a smile before turning around and leaving the office.

She walked back to her Porsche with Charlie still sitting in the passenger seat. She quickly got in and started driving, no students had arrived yet. She was driving a little over the speed limit but Charlie was either not noticing or didn't say anything. Later than Bella had wanted to they made it to the ferry and after the crossing they arrived in Seattle. Bella parked near the store she was supposed to meet up with the stylist. Once in the store she quickly met her new stylist, Annabelle already had 8 outfits laid out. She fully got the look Bella wanted for a daily basis, smart casual, fitting for a highschooler. In no time she had a variety of pants, several blouses, some t shirts, some tops, several sweaters, a few hoodies and most importantly jackets that would work in Forks. They made a final stop at a shoe store where they had a similar routine, all in all it had barely taken little over an hour, something that had Charlie in a good mood, he had thought it would take a whole lot longer. Good thing he hadn't seen how many thousands of dollars Bella had just spent on clothes. The Porsche was already fairly loaded at this point.

"Well, just one store left Dad, let's get you a better fitting suit." Bella said.

"Bells I don't need a new suit." Charlie sighed not wanting anything more from his daughter who had already spent too much money on him, if you'd ask him.

"Ok no problem, you should know though that we're going to one of the best steakhouses in Seattle for lunch, guess you'd rather have a cheap salad with a glass of water." Bella said innocently with a strong hint that he was going to get a fitting suit one way or the other.

"Let's go see what kind of suits they have there." Charlie grunted.

After a short drive they got to the store for Charlie. The rough sizing that the stylist had of Charlie had worked out reasonably well. She had a simple though classic black suit with various sizes laid out. Hopefully Charlie wouldn't notice they were Armani before it would be too late. It had been a little awkward at first since Charlie had been carrying his pistol under his blazer. Once Charlie tried out the pants in the size that worked he quickly got handed a dress shirt in his size followed by a blazer and a new tie. He looked like a new man, due to the stylist the new suit he was wearing had already been cleaned and pressed. She had collected the price tags and Bella told Charlie not to bother changing. They got him a pair of oxfords and Bella quickly paid for Charlies new Armani outfit. She thanked Annabelle for her great service and gave her a cash bonus since she had really gone the extra way. Charlie got a few interesting looks from women his age as they walked back to he Porsche, putting a smile on Bella's face.

"You know if I keep buying you new clothes I'll have a step mom in no time." She said causing Charlie to become self-conscious and somewhat embarrassed.

"Hard to believe a suit makes a difference." Charlie grunted.

"Oh come on you grumpy old man, that Armani suit looks great on you." Bella said as she opened the drivers side door and threw the bag containing Charlie's old suit on top of all the other bags.

"Armani? Isn't that supposed to be expensive?" Charlie asked as he took his blazer off and opened the passenger door.

"it's not that bad really." Bella said as she got in.

Charlie was a little grumpy about Bella having spent money on him again. So she quickly drove them to the steakhouse she had picked for lunch, having called ahead for a reservation they got immediately seated. As grumpy as he may have been about Bella having spent money on him again that quickly dissipated once Charlie got served his rib eye steak. After their delicious lunch they drove over to one of the sky scrapers in downtown Seattle, parking in the underground garage. Once in the lobby they were met by Bella's new head accountant who quickly introduced himself and escorted them to the elevators. They quickly found themselves in a meeting room, served with coffee and he started going over Bella's current financial situation together with his team. Eventually reaching their predictions and plans for the coming year.

"As you can see we plan to continue down the same line of careful low risk investments, the bonds that pay out this year will be reinvested in other bonds, there's a few stock changes planned too. All in all after taxes you should earn a estimated one hundred fourty million dollars this year after taxes. Though for tax purposes we do suggest you consider donating to a few charitable causes. Do you still have a satisfactory amount of liquid assets at hand miss Swan?" the head accountant asked at the end of their presentation.

"Yes, it's more than enough I'm sure the one hundred million presently in my account will last quite a while. I'll think of what charities I'd like to donate to, I would like to make a difference on a more local level. Thank you very much for going over everything on such short notice, I look forward to the next update." Bella said as the meeting came to a close.

Charlie was still in shock from when he found out how much his daughter was worth, how much she stood to earn in a year when they took the elevator directly to the parking garage.

"You ok dad?" Bella asked as they got out of the elevator and walked towards the Porsche.

"You uh – I didn't think. It's a lot." Charlie muttered.

"I know, can you understand now why I don't mind buying you a house or a suit? There's more than enough for me to do some nice things for those I care about and I like the idea of charity on a more local level instead of giving money to those big charities which mostly pocket the money anyway." Bella said after they got in the car.

It didn't take them long to be back on the ferry once across they started the trip back to forks, they'd make it home before dinner time. Charlie's cupboards and fridge had been somewhat bare, so she stopped at the Safeway in Forks.

"Come on dad, let's show you off to the ladies of Forks currently at Safeway, besides you can't stop being my bodyguard till we're home." Bella said jokingly with a wink causing Charlie to blush.

As they did their grocery shopping the people of forks were noticing how sharply dressed the sheriff was, though in fairness Charlie was starting to like it. Pretty soon they were back outside and drove the short distance home. An old Chevy truck was parked off into the street, the doors opening when Bella parked in the driveway next to the cruiser. They got out of the Porsche to find a familiar looking native American in a wheelchair with a younger native American pushing the wheelchair towards them.

"Billy how your doing?" Charlie asked enthusiastically as he ran over to take control of the wheelchair.

"Good good, you're well dressed old friend." Billy said to Charlie before redirecting to Bella. "Good to see you again Bella, Charlie here wouldn't shut up about you coming to live with him these past weeks. Even got a new house and all that." Billy said.

"Well I helped a little with his outfit, gotta help the old man off the street after all. I remember you from when I was little, nice to see you again." Bella said, happy to see a somewhat familiar face.

"Jake here was pestering me all week about coming to see you as soon as possible." Billy said jokingly.

"No dad you're the one that wanted to come today to watch the game on Charlie's new giant flatscreen. Hey I'm Jake, we used to play together as kids." Jake said as he got a couple of brown bags out of the truck and handed them to Billy.

"I remember now, do you still make mud pies?" Bella joked.

Charlie helped Billy inside, something that had become easier since the new house didn't have stairs to get to the front door. Jake helped Bella to get all of the bags out of the Porsche.

"That's a really sweet ride. Which model is it specifically?" Jake asked curiously while holding a bunch of bags.

"Shouldn't be surprised you like cars, such a guy thing. It's a 1994 Porsche 911 turbo 3.6, like the one in that first bad boys movie that Will Smith drove. It's an old movie by now so I don't know if you've seen it, but if you haven't than we should totally watch it." Bella said enthusiastically.

"Haven't seen it yet, so why not." Jake replied

"Hey unless you're into sports games like they are perhaps we could watch it today." Bella suggested

"I'll pick a movie over sports games any time." Jake said with a smile as they entered the house.

Charlie had rolled Billy into the kitchen, Billy had somewhat of a sour look on his face. He changed it back to a more neutral expression as Bella and Jake entered, but not before Bella had noticed. Bella put her bags down by the stairs, signaling Jake to do the same.

"Bells, Billy brought the Clearwater's world famous fish fry." Charlie said enthusiastically

"Ok let me cook them up with some sides while you guys get settled." Bella replied.

"Jake, give Bella a hand." Billy said as Charlie rolled him to the living room.

Bella and Jake quickly unpacked the groceries and peeled potatoes to boil. Bella got out frozen peas to cook up with bacon.

"I'm starting school tomorrow, at least I'll already know somebody there." Bella said while chopping bacon.

"Oh uh I go to school on the rez, it's more exclusive you know." Jake said somewhat sadly.

"Well we can still hang out after school." Bella reassured him.

After cooking for thirty minutes and bonding with Jake dinner was ready. They took out trays to the living room and ate together with Billy and Charlie after which they went upstairs with Charlie demanding Bella left her door open, causing her to roll her eyes. Jake helped carry the bags upstairs and helped Bella stock her walk in closet by handing the clothes. Once that was done Bella grabbed a t-shirt and sweatpants to go change into something more comfortable. She quickly hopped into her bathroom to change and pull her hair into a messy bun. She spent most of the evening watching Bad boys with Jake and laughing her ass off.

"Ok that is a good movie." Jake admitted when bad boys was finished.

"We can watch the sequels next time." Bella said.

"Oh definitely."

"Hey Jake is something up with your dad? He had a pretty sour look on his face when I came in." Bella asked.

"You noticed that huh? This is kind of their reunion tonight. My dad threw a fit when your dad bought this awesome pad from Mrs. Cullen. Well he loved it at first until he found out it was a house she renovated. It's all very silly but he really doesn't like the Cullens." Jake sighed.

"She seemed pretty nice to me, of course I haven't met her, just talked to her on the phone." Bella said as she walked to her bedrooms door.

"Just don't mention it to either of them, they have had falling out's before but it never lasted this long." Jake requested before they went downstairs.

The Blacks didn't stay much longer, since it was a school night. When they left Bella went back up stairs to take a shower. After her shower she went back downstairs to say goodnight to Charlie and remind him to hang up his new suit so that she could drop it off at the dry cleaners together with her clothes when she went to school tomorrow. She settled in bed with a book eventually falling asleep.

Hope everyone enjoyed some more interaction with Charlie and Jake making his first appearance. Next chapter is underway and Bella will meet the Cullen kids again for the first time.
