Chapter 4: Banking Matters

He opened his eyes before closing them at being almost blinded by the bright lights.

"I need a vacation." He muttered.

He heard a chuckle from his right, opening his eyes slightly he glanced to his right to see a smiling Tonks. "Does that amuse you V?"

She shrugged at him with a grin on her face, "It does Hero. You keep saving people like this though and you'll never get that vacation."

Rolling his eyes which was a mistake made him let out a grumble of pain. Tonks just snickered at his stupidity.

Putting his hand over his eyes, "What time is it."

Tonks glanced down at her watch, "Just after 11 am. You slept just under 2 hours. You need to take better care of yourself." She finished with concern, which wasn't surprising to him that she felt connected to him. She had always told him how much she longed to find someone that could relate to her.

He did feel elated at her concern, Tonks had been a good friend. It was just another hit in the war that almost broke him. She had been there for him after Sirius died. She was his rock and losing her almost pushed him over the edge. He wanted that relationship back, he confided in her more than he had for anyone else. She instinctively made him want to spill his heart out, it was a little weird to be older than her now.

"Well as much as I would like to be lazy, I need to get some stuff done today." Standing up he ignored the wobbling of his knees.

Tonks pushed him back down on the bed, "Nope, not tell Poppy clears you."

Scowling at her, "I'm a grown-ass man."

"That remains to be seen, Mr. Potter." Madam Pomfrey said indignantly, even in the future he occupied her ward.

Letting out a grumble he let her examine him, ignoring the looks of mock pity Tonks was giving him.

After she finished, "You might want to take it easy for the day."

"I just plan on going to Gringotts and getting my Houses in order."

"Yes, well try not to use too much magic."

"Yes madam, do you mind if I use your floo then?"

Nodding at him she led him and Tonks into her office. She left them to their own devices after she showed them in.

"Your coming?" He asked Tonks.

Letting out a huff, "Am I not allowed to? Besides I have nothing better to do."

Nodding, "The burrow first Mrs. Weasley holds on to my vault key for me, so it doesn't get stolen during the school year."

She gave him a wide grin.

Throwing Floo powder into the fireplace he stuck his head in and said The Burrow.

"Mrs. Weasley?"

He waited a minute for her to make her way toward him.

"Harry dear is everything alright?

"Everything is fine Mrs. Weasley, I just need my vault key. Do you mind if me and Tonks step through?"

Smiling at him warmly she ushered him forward. Stepping back to avoid the catastrophe that was Tonks and Harry flooing.

Proving she was right as they both shot out of the fireplace with Tonks landing on top of Harry once again.

"Dammit every time, is it because we're Metamorphs, or does magical travel just hate us."

Deep in thought, Tonks pondered if that was the case, she had always been clumsy but portkeying or flooing always made it worse.

She tabled those thoughts for later, "Least I have you as a cushion Hero, I'll make sure I always go second." She said teasingly.

Harry playful shoved her off him for the second time in less than a day. Molly just watched the byplay in amusement.

Standing up he shook the soot off him as Tonks merely flicked her wand and removed her soot. He glared at her for being smarter than him as she snickered at him.

Sighing he asked Molly, "Can you grab my key, Mrs. Weasley?"

"Arthur told you earlier it's Molly." She put her hands on her hip giving him her mum glare.

Rubbing his temple, "Sorry old habits, even in the future you failed to convert me to different addresses."

She turned and went to retrieve his key. Returning shortly, she handed him his key.

He gave her an appreciative smile, "Thanks again for holding on to this for me."

"It's no problem, dear, best to keep it safe so you didn't lose it."

Turning to leave he remembered a thought that he had earlier. "Just so you know Mrs. Weasley I plan to divide the profits of the ingredients of the basilisk amongst those that were affected by the damn thing. Including Ron and Ginny."

"That's not needed, Harry."

Giving her his sternest look, "Yes, it is, I would like it though if half of each of Ron and Ginny's sums go into the family vault and the other half in a trust vault for them each. From what Andromeda estimated that will be around 25 thousand galleons in the trust vault each if my calculations are correct."

She put her hand over her mouth in shock while Tonks openly stared at him. "That's too much!"

Shaking his head in denial, "No it's not, they deserve it. Unless you don't think Penelope, Colin, Hagrid, Justin, Hermione, and Myrtle's family don't deserve it. Molly, it's a lot of money so I would feel better if half is used for your family and the other half of Ron and Ginny's share ends up in a trust you and Arthur oversee, otherwise Ron would probably spend it all in less than a year."

Tonks let loose a giggle. While Molly pulled him into a hug.

"As much I would like to stay, I do got to run to Gringotts and settle some family matters." Giving Mrs. Weasley another hug he Disapparated out of the Burrow.

Tonks followed his apparition trail. When the trail ended, they were at the apparition point in Diagon alley.

Walking to Gringotts he noticed the stares he was getting, spotting a copy of the Daily Prophet his hair turned red in anger. There was an article in the paper by Rita Skeeter that was accusing him of using dark magic to travel through time. Tonks grabbed the paper and her hair also turned blood red.

He calmed himself, it didn't pay for him to blow his top in the middle of Diagon Alley. "Hey, V?"

"What's up Hero?"

"I can't remember what the sentence is for an unregistered Animagus?"

Giving him a puzzled look, "I think 5 years in Azkaban, why? You shouldn't have to worry about it, Madam Bones will take care of it."

Shaking his head, "Not for me but a certain nosy reporter." He whispered in her ear.

Realization dawned on her face before it turned gleeful. "You better let me be there when you tell Amelia she's wanted to squash her for ages." She was bouncing on her feet in glee.

Whispering in her ear, "Funny you say that she's a water beetle."

Tonks let loose a cackle that sounded like a supervillain who had just killed his rival. Harry let out a chuckle at the antics of the bubbly woman.

He stopped at the entrance to Gringotts and gestured to Tonks, "Ladies first."

Scoffing at him, she rolled her eyes before opening the door and making her way into the lobby of the bank.

Following her, he noticed every pair of eyes in the lobby turned to stare at him. Some of the people and even a few goblins seemed to point at him and talk in loud whispers. Even in this timeline, he would be a topic for discussion. At least it wasn't as bad as when he was the man who conquered. He couldn't even go to the loo in a restaurant without being besieged.

He hooked his arm around Tonks who narrowed her eyes at him. She correctly guessed that he wanted to pull some of the attention off himself and what better way to do it than to give them gossip of being accompanied by the resident metamorph.

Playfully shoving him off, he gave an affronted look that he tried to make look like he was innocent of any crime. Tonks just shook her head in slight annoyance.

Moving to the nearest available teller he waited till the bugger addressed him.

"Yes?"

"I need to speak to an account manager. I then would like to visit my vaults." Unlike the Blacks, The Potters did not have a dedicated account manager. They didn't have enough wealth to constitute one and when they did, they chose not to, always preferring to manage their wealth.

"That will be 20 galleons an hour to speak to an account manager." He handed the goblin his key. He also cut his finger and let a few drops of blood into the bowl on the counter to verify his identity. The goblin took the key and gave it a look, while also making sure it lit up correctly. He recognized that Harry had the money to pay for the services by using his ledger to magically connect to the key to get an account balance.

"Sharpknife is free, go to the doorway and wait for an escort." The goblin then dismissed them by giving him back his key.

They made their way to the ornate door and waited, which didn't take long. Making their way through the long hallway he noticed all the goblin weapons adorning the hallway. It was clearly an intimidation tactic to unnerve wizards. It would have worked if he wasn't so experienced with them.

He still wasn't sure how to get the cup. He knew that the goblins wouldn't give a damn about what was in their vaults. This time if he had to break in, he was going to have to remove his wealth, he wasn't going to lose it all this time. While he never hurt for money in his occupation, not having a nest egg was always a concern.

By losing his wealth he also lost all documents that were stored in the vaults. He never knew much about if the Potters or Blacks had any additional property. Anyone that could tell him was dead except for Andromeda. Andromeda though was disowned, and usually when you were disowned from an ancient family knowledge of properties was removed from your mind.

Even to this day, the magic that was used hadn't been recreated. No one knew what it was or how it worked. Only the older families still had it, newer families just had to make do with obliviations.

Their goblin guard stopped at a large door that had a plaque that said Sharpknife. He opened the door and pointed his weapon to go inside, shrugging Harry and Tonks made their way inside.

The goblin Sharpknife looked up from his massive pile of paperwork, "What do you want."

Harry pulled out a seat for Tonks getting a smile of appreciation before he sat next to her. "I need the records for House Potter and Black." He flashed the goblin the Lordship rings on his right hand.

Sharpknife nodded, "Copies or Original."

"Copies for now, I trust you to keep them safe." He lied.

The goblin gave a smirk that made him look like a demon from hell, "Anything else?"

"I also need disownment papers for Narcissa Malfoy, Draco Malfoy, and Bellatrix Lestrange. I also need documents to reinstate Andromeda Tonks and make House Tonks a cadet branch of House Black."

Tonks looked at him with some appreciation, and while she knew that he planned to reinstate her family it was another thing to have it finally happen. She knew that her mother missed the connection to the Black Family Magic, even though it had been over 2 decades.

Getting an Idea Harry asked, "By chance do your records show if either Bellatrix or Narcissa married under marriage contracts?"

Standing up Sharpknife made his way to a large file cabinet that had a Large B emblemized on it. He went through the documents for about 5 minutes before pulling two folders. Sitting down with the documents he started rifling through them.

"Mrs. Lestrange did but Mrs. Malfoy did not."

"Did Mrs. Lestrange break any of the clauses on the contract?" Harry asked leaning forward in his seat in anticipation.

Scanning the document Sharpknife replied, "Yes, she did not have a child within a decade of marriage, and it looks as if her husband defaulted on a loan to House Black. Probably due to them being sent to Azkaban."

"Can I confiscate the money from their vault?"

Sharpknife shook his head negatively causing him to let out a sigh of annoyance, "You can petition the Head of DMLE or the Head of Wizengamot to reclaim lost money. By treaty, we can not let anyone other than a vault owner into the said vault without a court order."

Well not completely happy at that news, he hoped that Albus and Amelia would be able to help him confiscate the vault to destroy the cup. He would just have to present them with the documentation.

"Not much I can do then, at least not until I talk to Madam Bones." Sharpknife nodded to him.

Harry paused trying to remember what else he needed to do, "How much is left in the Black Vaults and what was the most recent transaction?"

Going through more paperwork, "It looks to be just over 1.3 million galleons and the latest transaction was to Firebolt for 700k galleons."

Tonks let out a whistle at that. She knew that the firebolt was expensive, but she didn't realize it was that expensive.

Nudging Harry on the shoulder, "I'm riding that later."

Smirking at her, "Yes V."

He continued with his business, "What's the standard dowry paid for a female of House Black Sharpknife? Also, what is the standard trust vault for a member?"

"It was 20k galleons if I remember right and 10k galleons"

Scratching his stubble, "Deposit 25k Galleons to the Tonks Family Vault, and add 15k Galleons to Nymphadora Tonks vault."

Tonks's jaw dropped, "Harry you don't have to do that."

Giving her a hard look, "I know you don't give a damn about pureblood nonsense, I don't either. But sometimes we must do things we don't like; you will accept the money and get formal clothes for when we need to use them. You can leave the rest of the money or use it, I don't care."

Tonks stared at him defiantly, "I don't want it." She said through gritted teeth.

Letting out an angry grunt, "I don't care, you are a daughter of House Black, and you will accept it."

They stared at each other for close to a minute, before Tonks broke first looking away.

He grabbed her hand and held it in his, "V, House Black only has us, the rejects left." She gave him a wicked smile at that. "All the old bigots are gone now, it is up to us. Me, you, your parents, and Sirius to turn the House into one we can be proud of. Besides, it will be spitting in all the faces of those that would look down on us halfbloods." He finished with humor in his voice.

Tonks smiled before she closed her eyes and seemed to think for a minute. Before she let out a sigh of her own, "Fine, but you have to go with me to get the clothes we'll need." She finished with a gleam in her eyes.

He felt dread enter his very existence before he pushed it down and tried to ignore it as he nodded at her.

Broken out of their talk, "As amusing as it is to see humans argue, does that conclude our business?"

"I need the current balance of Vault 687 and any property documents from both families."

After assembling all the papers from both houses, he handed over the large stack of documents. "The 20 galleons will be withdrawn from the Black Family Vault. Do you need anything else?"

"Outside of a cart runner taking us down to both vaults no. May I draw my wand though to shrink the papers?" He knew that it could lead to war if he drew his wand in the bank without permission.

Sharpknife gave him a hard stare, "Very well."

Being stared at while he slowly drew his wand and shrank the papers, he quickly re-holstered it causing Sharpknife to relax. "Thank you for your time, Account Manager."

Getting a nod of acknowledgment, they made their way out of the room and followed the guard again who had gotten orders from Sharpknife to show them to his vaults.

When they got to his vault he bought an expanded money pouch from the guard for 50 galleons, which was almost highway robbery, but Harry hadn't thought of the issue until reaching his vault. Scooping up handfuls of coin he decimated a small stack of galleons.

After grabbing some spending money, they made their way to the Black Family Vault, being doused in the Thief's Downfall on the way. Only this time he wasn't breaking in. Tonks looked horrified at how they treated the dragon, and he couldn't blame her. He wanted to break the poor thing out again, but if he did it would just lead to greater trouble.

Stepping into the vault he quickly ran scans something he could do now that he was on his property rather than in Gringotts. It was the only time without permission that you could use your wand in the bank.

He bypassed the traps that were laid by The Blacks, which was not much considering the Lestrange vault was way more secure. Bellatrix must have added more traps because she was concealing a Horcrux.

Unlike the Potter Vault which was mostly coin, this vault had artifacts. A lot of them goblin made by the look of anger on the guard's face. He always found their terms of ownership unpleasant. He felt that it was just a way for them to complain and get more money out of people.

Looking around the vault he found the target of his journey. The Black Family Grimoire. Grabbing it he made his way out of the vault. Grabbing Tonks by the arm as she was still staring at the literal mountain of gold before her.

"Cor! that was a lot of gold!"

Snorting at her reaction, "Please that was nothing compared to what the vault must have had before Walburga got to it." He finished with a grimace, Merlin he hated that shrew, even dead she was an inconvenience.

"What now Hero."

Running a hand through his hair, "Back home to look at all these documents." A frown on his face.

She gave him a look, "What's wrong?"

"I just hate Grimmauld. I wouldn't stay there if it wasn't for Padfoot."

Nodding her head in understanding, "If you want you can stay at my flat, I have an extra room since my flatmate moved out."

Smiling at her, "As much as I would like that I don't know about leaving Paddy alone."

Scrunching her nose, "What are you going to do then?"

Scratching his cheek, "Probably going to look through the papers and see if The Potters have any properties left, I never knew in my timeline because you know." He finished with a pointed look.

The look she gave him conveyed that she understood what he was saying and not saying while in Gringotts.

"You have enough gold to buy a property."

That was something he didn't even think about. A plan quickly formed in his head. "How long until you can teach me to hold complicated shifts for at least a couple of hours."

She gave him a thoughtful look, "I don't know, from what I've seen of your control maybe a couple of weeks, maybe less, maybe more. Until we have a couple of sessions, I'm not sure."

"Ok, Thanks V."

Beaming at him, "No problem, Hero."

As they exited the bank many plans began forming in his head. He needed to take out the Horcrux as soon as possible the only ones that he couldn't deal with right now were Nagini and the cup. He also needed to set up a meeting with Amelia to hopefully get into the Lestrange Vault and squash a noisy reporter.

If all went well then by the time, he arrived in the graveyard the only anchor remaining should be the snake. Capturing Pettigrew was a must, it was the only way he knew of to free his godfather. If he did everything correctly then no one would know that Voldemort came back.

The ministry would be in an uproar a year after the third task. It was something he hadn't told anyone yet. The fact that those that bore the Dark Mark would start slowly losing their magic, it took roughly a year for even the strongest of them to finally succumb to the loss.

Most had died but the strongest survived a shadow of their former self. He would have to investigate a way to remove the mark so that Snape wouldn't die, his mother would never forgive him if he didn't try.

His family's future would be bright, he would see to it.
