The Aztec Priest was the first character guests visiting El Rio Del Tiempo saw.

He enjoyed his role as the statue turned omniscient time travelling narrator of the ride.

He knew all about the history of Mexico, from its mythologial formation, to the present day.

He took that job seriously.

El Rio Del Tiempo became The Gran Fiesta Tour Starring The Three Caballeros in 2007. Nothing major was changed aside from the addition of Donald Duck, Panchito, and Jose, and the removal of the Aztec Priest and the ending, with marionettes in a gazebo.
