Prompt: By some cosmic coincidence, you are sent back to the day you first met your partner.
"Hey… Are you okay?"
She could hear a voice. It sounded so familiar.
"Please. Wake up, please!" The voice called out. She opened her eyes to see a smiling cyndaquil standing in front of her. There was something familiar about it.
"Good. I was worried you wouldn't wake up." it said, shining as she looked at it.
"Sorry… this sounds weird, but… Do I know you?" No matter how she looked at the pokemon, there was just something about it that didn't sit right, and yet, was exactly as it should be.
"Can't say I've seen any eevee around here recently." it said, still with that goofy smile.
"Eevee?" She got up and looked at herself, before taking a look at the water pool next to her. "That can't be right. I'm a hum…" She stopped herself. While true, it wasn't right either. "No, I'm a glaceon."
The cyndaquil looked puzzled at her. "Then you are the brownest, most fluffy glaceon on the continent."
"I'm not joking. I used to be a glaceon." She felt quite offended. "And are you sure, we haven't met one another before?" She glanced over the fire-type again. "I could have sworn I'd known you from somewhere… Do you have a name?"
"Quite sure." the mouse replied. "You don't see that many eevee around these parts. But I can give you my name. It's Sear."
A shockwave went through the eevee as memories came rushing back to her. "Sear…? Wait… WAIT!" She shook her head as she remembered everything. "I… Sear, you don't remember me? It's me, Vei."
Sear looked at Vei for a moment before his eyes sprung open as he gave the normal-type a lookover. "Wait. I remember! VEI!" He jumped in for a hug which threw them both on the ground. "What happened to you? You are an eevee again."
"And you're back to being a cyndaquil." She gave her partner of a lifetime a bright smile.
"I guess so. Last I remembered was being old and tired, going to bed."
"Same, then you woke me up here. Kinda like how we originally met." She nuzzled Sear, who embraced her. "Do you think it's the afterlife?"
Before Sear could answer, the two of them heard an eerily familiar call for help as Butterfree appeared and asked them to save Caterpie, just like when they first met. The two agreed to help and rushed into Tiny Woods.
Cold winds started to build up as they ran through the familiar setting.
"Is that you doing that?" Sear asked Vei as they moved ahead.
"I guess? Give me a second to test." As if on cue, an angry oddish came from the bushes and stormed against them. Before it could blink, however, it was encased in ice.
"Are eevee supposed to be able to do that?" Vei asked her partner who replied with a confused shrug. "Oh, think of this. I could become a leafeon or flareon with Ice Beam."
"Don't know if I would say that it sounds amazingly cool or absolutely terrifying." Sear replied.
"Maybe I should just become a glaceon again, though. To be the prettiest pokemon once again." she chuckled to herself.
"No matter what you evolve to, you will always be the prettiest to me." Sear said, a blush covering his face.
"And you will always be the prettiest for me." Vei replied.
The two were nearing a clearing as they could hear a child's cry for help. "Oh, and let's keep the human thing a secret so we can find Ninetales on our own terms." Sear said as they approached the sound.
"If we are indeed back to where everything began, then yes, let's."
And so, Sear and Vei started their adventure once again.
On a beach far from Sear and Vei, a vulpix was stirring in the sand.
"Eurgh. Right in my mouth…" She said as she looked around. "Wait… why am I here?" She looked at the sunset, as the bubbles from the crab pokemon were floating past. "Well, this is giving me flashbacks. How many years has it been?"
"Blair?" A voice called for her from the hill. She looked towards it to see a treecko reaching the beach.
"Wait…" She squinted as she looked at the gecko. "Summers? That can't be right."
The treecko gave his usual confident smile. "Oh, it's not a joke. Any idea how we are back here?"
She looked puzzled at her de-aged and alive partner. "No… You should have been dead for-"
"Years? Well, from what I've managed to gather, today is the day where we originally met." He said, interrupting the confused fox.
"Really?"
"Yup. No-one in the guild knew me. And from some other clues, I figured it out." He was still smiling as he approached his partner.
"So, what? We have to save the world again?" She asked him.
"Well, we know how it will happen, who to trust, and how to fix it."
Blair thought for a second. "I don't know. Maybe we should do like Blaze, and follow it straight… Okay, maybe a few altercations." she mused.
"Like what?"
"First of all, a proper farewell to Grovyle would be fitting. Maybe befriend him a little earlier, and drop the bombshell reveal." Summers nodded in agreement to her idea. "But for the first change… How about you don't get mugged."
"Mugged?" He turned around to see Zubat and Koffing charging towards him. With a graceful move he dodged both of them as they crashed into the sand. "Oh… Yeah, I think we can speed this up."
On a similar beach, in a different world, another vulpix was coming to, having a completely different surprise waiting for her, her mind still foggy.
"Don't tell me I've started sleepwalking in my old age." she mused as she got up and stretched her body. "Wait… Something is missing." She looked back. "Red fur, six tails, tiny… Why and how did I become a vulpix again?"
"Blaze?" came from the hill leading to Treasure Town.
Blazewind turned to see a treecko approaching her. "Summers? Okay, I'm not sleepwalking, I'm dreaming… Or finally died."
"Is the afterlife the day we met one another?" he asked her as he got up to her. "With a little change." he followed up with pointing closer to the ocean.
Blaze looked and saw an identical vulpix lying closer to the shore, still unconscious. "Wait… Is that Blair? As in, the Blair I originally replaced, not the one we met in the Nexus."
They both looked at the sleeping pokemon. "I… maybe?" was Summers only reply.
"Better wake her up before a large wave takes her away." Blaze giggled as she approached her twin.
"I don't know if I should find this fascinating, or terrifying." Summers said as he followed her.
"Uh… Where… am I?" the vulpix asked as it regained consciousness.
"The beach." Blaze replied bluntly.
"Are you okay?" Summers asked the stranger.
The vulpix got on all fours and shook her head. "I… I don't know... " she opened her eyes and stared at the duo. "Wait…" She started squinting. "Did you just talk?"
"Why shouldn't we?" Summers asked.
"What kind of special vulpix do you think you are, to assume only you are allowed to speak?" Blaze continued, trying to hide a smile.
"Wait? Vulpix?!" The red fox looked herself over. "No… This isn't right. I'm a-"
"Human. We know." Blaze interrupted. "And you have no memories aside from that one, and your name, correct?"
The vulpix stared at her for a moment, then started to think, before nodding. "Yes, I only remember that my name is Blaiiiii…. Blazewind. It's Blazewind."
"Well then." Summers interjected. "This is awkward, because my pal here is also named Blazewind." He placed a hand on top of Blaze's head.
"Yeah, can't have two Blaze's running around." Blaze smiled. "You look like a Blair to me. Can we call you Blair instead?"
Blair froze up for a moment. "How much do you know?" she asked them. "Do you know more about me?"
Summers shook his head. "Not really, and the explanation of what we do know would be… really confusing for now."
"Here's the deal." Blaze stepped in. "Me and my partner were about to join the Exploration Guild in town. You want to join as a third member? We can help you out, and explain more when we get settled in. Deal?"
Blair was shaking as Blaze finished up. "I… I don't know…" She was thinking something, as if she was having a debate with her subconscious self. "I… You aren't trying to trick me?" She took a few steps back.
"Blair, listen to me. Do I sound like I would trick or lie to you?" Blaze said in a serious tone that even Summers had rarely heard.
"No… Something inside me says that you are trustworthy… I don't know why, but it feels like I've met you before."
"That… is not entirely inaccurate." Blaze said as she headed towards town. "We can explain everything in chunks so it won't be overwhelming, if that is fine." Summers had reached his partner's side, and waited for Blair to make her move.
"I… That is fine, yeah." Blair replied and started walking.
Summers leaned in to Blaze and started to whisper. "So, are we going to stick to the script?"
"With Blair around, it might get a bit harder." she replied as she could feel her twin approach them. "So let us have a bit of fun, and do some non-risky changes. We still need Dusknoir to do you know what."
"Got it. Let's plan that later." He looked back to see Blair had caught up. "So, you play any instruments?"
"Uhm…"
"Oh, right. Memory loss." He facepalmed, embarrassed by his question.
"I think you would be killer on a harmonica." Blaze said as they neared the town border.
On a different plane, two arceus were watching as life on the newly formed worlds spread. The ruined universe finally stable enough to contain the life of mortals. A third arceus approached them. "And what have you two just done?" it asked, more annoyed than angry.
"We owe them much." one said.
"You, them, and us." the other continued.
"So we decided to give them one final gift as thanks." the first said.
The holes in reality which the arceus duo had been looking from expanded to show three near identical planets in different parts of the cosmos.
"Why three different worlds?" the elder arceus asked.
"Because Team Amaguriken, Summerbreeze and Clonesquad all lived in the same theoretical place. So we needed three worlds to not mess with too much." the first arceus said.
"The others have been placed accordingly so each can meet at least one other group of friends from their time in the Nexus." the second smiled.
"Speaking of the three teams you named. What about that future needed?" the elder asked, curiosity dripping in his voice.
"We have already made preparations for that. Everything should play out accordingly."
"Well, sounds like you have gotten the hang of this, then. But don't come and complain to me if something breaks." The elder was ready to leave.
"We will be careful, teacher." they both said.
"Good. Now, L, B, I think I will take a short rest. Keep an eye open in the meantime." With that, the elder arceus disappeared.
"Don't worry, teacher." L said as they smiled at their counterpart. "We will."
AN: Fun fact. This was supposed to be the distant finale for the Nexus story arc and universe... It is no longer the distant finale of the Nexus universe(es). Thank you Regional Form prompt!
