Tsunade raised an eyebrow at Kurenai and her genin team, particularly Kiba who seemed quite proud of himself as he showed off the metal scales on his left arm. Shino seemed fine, but Hinata's hair was standing up slightly and she seemed to be holding a static charge. The Inuzuka was the most startling and surprising, steel scales had sprouted all along his left arm and his fingernails seemed to have been replaced by black iron.
The culprit of Kiba's change was rather obvious, the brass mark of the Ryuketsu no Kami was branded on the back of his left hand. Tsunade turned to Shino, "Any changes for you?" she asked with a raised eyebrow.
The Aburame adjusted his sunglasses, "After I killed my challenge, I thought nothing had happened. However an internal inspection revealed some of the eggs within my hive have mutated." he explained, "It will still be a few days before I know for certain how they differ from my usual kikaichu but they are bigger." he added.
Tsunade tried not to look green in the face, she was a medical professional but the Aburame were still a very disturbing clan, "What about the other two?" she asked.
Kiba chuckled, "This is awesome, these fingernails are as hard and sharp as miniature kunai when I use Shikyaku no Jutsu, and the scales are tough enough to block a kunai too!" he bragged, Kurenai sighed and Tsunade decided not to ask how he knew that second detail as she turned on the Hyuga girl.
Hinata frowned, "It's a little awkward, but I'm electrical now I guess?" she assumed, "I'm not sure why, but my body builds up electrical charge over time when there's nowhere else for it to go, I think this is as built up as it gets and Kurenai-sensei says it isn't lethal at least." she explained. Neither older woman blamed her trepidation, such a thing would make intimacy difficult and she'd only just gotten together with Naruto recently.
Tsunade nodded, "Alright, Kurenai-san you and your team can explain the Konton Gundan to Kiba-kun." she said dismissively, "I guess I'll get started on the paperwork." she added, finding it curious that six out of the nine rookie genin were all marked so soon. She made a note to keep a closer eye on team ten, an Ino-Shika-Cho enhanced by such boons would be quite devastating should those three develop as well.
She also wondered why the Inuzuka didn't seem nearly as angry as Sakura, was that rage supposed to be a boon too?
The first issue with Hinata's new boon came when Karin was coming out of the shower as Hinata was waiting her turn, the two girls accidentally brushed shoulders and the Uzumaki recoiled in alarm, "What the fuck!?" she snapped, wondering why she'd been attacked.
"I'm so sorry!" Hinata frantically tried to assure as she bowed, "I have no control over it, my body builds up electricity now. I thought it was a new quirk of my chakra, but according to a medical check up it's a biological thing." she tried to explain, nervous about her new 'blessing'.
Karin blinked owlishly, "Bio-electricity is a boon we can get?" she asked with a raised eyebrow, Hinata shrugged and nodded at the same time to show she wasn't very certain, "Alright, just be more careful." she demanded, that shock had hurt. The red head noticed that the white eyed girls hair seemed to stick up a little less after unleashing the jolt, making a mental note of the indicator as she stepped aside to let Hinata at the shower.
Sasuke looked in the mirror, his own mirror in the privacy of his home not the ones in the shrine. He was finally recovered enough to test out his dojutsu, however pushing his chakra into his eye he was less than impressed. The loss of depth perception caused by losing one of his eyes by fusing it with the other was undone at least while the Sharingan was active, and he supposed that usually the maximum amount of tomoe in one eye was three.
But he couldn't help but feel like having four tomoe was underwhelming, as near as he could tell Aoki had literally just combined the ocular abilities of his eyes into a singular eye. It seemed to be more efficient chakra wise at least, and the Fearling in his Juin assured him there was more to it.
So the young Uchiha pushed more chakra into the eye to see what Aoki was taking about, seeing the usual red Sharingan turn incandescent blue as his tomoe turned gold was a novel prospect. He tested the clarity and was finally impressed, Sasuke smirked as he examined his own hands. It wasn't quite the same degree as what he'd heard about the Byakugan, but no Sharingan user had ever reported the ability to see tenketsu before.
Kurenai insisted Kiba should keep his left arm bandaged up, a good enough cover for a taijutsu specialist and it let him keep the fact he'd be able to block blades with his arm a secret. Despite agreeing the Inuzuka showed off his boon and mark to Sakura with a sense of pride, "So I guess from what Kurenai-sensei was saying, you're now my senpai?" he asked with a raised eyebrow.
Sakura was taken aback by the term, she hadn't considered that anyone who joined the Konton with the same mark as her would be her kouhai, "I guess, but don't expect special treatment." she snapped.
Kiba laughed, "Yeah, fair enough." he agreed, "I'm gonna go get some personal training in, the new arm is a little heavy and throws off my balance." he said as he turned to leave with a wave, "See you around, Sakura-chan." he added as he left.
Sakura idly waved before she returned to her own home, she was done training for the day herself. As she did she noticed the pile of skulls was actually growing, confused she decided to ask her father, who mentioned other Inuzuka besides Kiba had apparently taken to the odd ritual associated with her shrine. The man then insisted she hose them down daily so they didn't attract anything.
Tsunade listened to the mission report from Naruto, "Why did you fight one of the Kiri no Shinobigatana Shichinin Shu on your own?" she asked, massaging her temples as she braced for a terrible answer.
Naruto shrugged, "I figured he'd be a worthy opponent." he answered honestly.
Tsunade sighed, "I know you get boons from doing that, but you shouldn't really go picking fights with that level of opponent." she scolded lightly, although at this point she was just grateful that Naruto's abilities made stealth borderline useless against him. Now if he could just use stealth himself he'd be a more dangerous assassination specialist than even Kakashi had been in his prime.
"I can keep the Raito, right?" Naruto asked, not promising anything and avoiding the subject since he fully intended to keep fighting worthy opponents to prove Slaanesh was right to mark him.
Tsunade nodded, "Sure, I suppose." she agreed, she'd rather he use fanged electrical swords than take the Raijin no Ken eventually anyway.
Naruto frowned in confusion, wondering why Hinata was avoiding him. Using his new agility he slipped behind her and wrapped his arms around her with a grin, only to give a very feminine squeak of surprise as electricity ran into him.
Hinata looked mortified, "I'm so sorry! Naruto-kun are you okay?" she asked but before she could explain further the blonde grabbed her shoulders and gave her the most sensual grin she'd ever seen from him.
"Do it again." Naruto demanded in breathy tones, his sudden lust was infectious and had the Hyuga blushing.
"Um, I can't, I can't control that, it just sort of builds up." Hinata explained, not having expected that response from the blonde.
Naruto pouted, "Well, whenever you can, do me with that." he requested with a purr as he dragged her to bed, Karin had been watching with a raised eyebrow but she was glad the other girl had a target besides zapping pieces of metal. She still decided not to rescue Hinata from the first few rounds of Naruto's lust, as tempted as she was, it was the Hyuga's fault the blonde was so horny so she didn't take her turn until the white eyed girl was nearly passed out.
In the other room Kin considered buying ear plugs.
Tsunade sighed, finally most of the genin weren't away on a mission. Iruka had been mentioning wanting to send the academy students on survival training with a genin. The sight of the training mission was Takurami Mountain, it was supposed to get the students used to working in four man cells under command of an older shinobi, and it helped the genin get used to leading a cell if they hadn't before.
Strictly speaking, they had more genin than they needed. Tsunade considered just using the rookie nine as was tradition. Sakura made her hesitant about that though, the girl had calmed down at least but if she snapped and killed a student that would be a major issue. The Hokage reminded herself that she needed to be able to trust the pink haired kunoichi.
Having six genin who were technically classified as Ninso made this awkward, but Tsunade figured it was probably fine. Her eye twitched as she noticed Naruto never actually completed this exercise in the academy, she decided he definitely was doing it. The blonde woman finished organizing the mock teams for the exercise and pulled out her bottle of sake.
Tsunade looked over the academy students as they returned from the survival training exercise, the rookie nine genin didn't seem too upset since they got a D rank mission pay compensation from the academy stipend to help. Sakura, Kiba, and Shikamaru all looked completely disinterested.
Of those three, Kiba's team of students seemed amazed. Given he was an Inuzuka those kids probably got quite the crash course, the extra meat wrapped up they had was proof of that. Iruka had marked them as needing additional assistance. Sakura's team seemed horrified, the Hokage made a mental note to have a Yamanaka check them for emotional damage.
Shikamaru's team just looked disgruntled and exhausted, it was generally assumed the Nara told them what they needed to do and then did nothing to show them how to do it. Ino's team and Choji's team didn't seem any worse for wear, nothing particularly noteworthy there.
Shino's team seemed oddly disturbed and were a step further from the Aburame then any other group of students from an assigned genin, she figured something happened to reveal his insects. Nothing noteworthy about Hinata's team, although the Hyuga herself seemed fidgety for some reason.
Sasuke's team were looking at the Uchiha like he was their new hero, Tsunade wondered what had happened there. Finally, the Konohamaru Gundan, who were already noted to look up to Naruto, she'd almost not given them to him for that, weren't back yet.
"Yo." Naruto greeted, arriving late with his group. Konohamaru looked amazed, Udon looked shocked, and Moegi seemed jumpy. Iruka raised an eyebrow, hoping Kakashi wasn't infecting his students with tardiness and concerned by the mixed reactions.
"Do you have a good reason for being late?" Tsunade asked as she crossed her arms under her chest.
Naruto scratched the skin around his right horn as he chuckled, "Ah, I forgot to bring a watch, lost track of time and we took a nap after eating." he said.
"What did you guys catch?" One of Kiba's group asked, "Kiba-nii showed us how to track and kill deer!" he bragged, clearly more interested in what he did.
Konohamaru frowned, since technically they hadn't hunted something like that, "Well, we ate a bunch of things." he began, "There was a rabbit, a few snakes, some fish, Naruto-nee had some mushrooms but he wouldn't share them, and we would have eaten a boar but Naruto-nee scared it off." he finished with a pout.
Naruto scoffed, "There's no way we would have eaten a whole boar, not with all the other stuff." he said dismissively.
Tsunade sighed, "That's correct, although as Kiba-san has demonstrated it's perfectly fine to bring back extra meat, but sometimes avoiding conflict with wildlife is a survival skill." she explained for the benefit of the academy students, who all wondered how they were supposed to scare off a wild boar
"None of you should ever attempt to scare off an animal bigger than you without genjutsu or explosives." Iruka added quickly, "Also always make sure you know what species of mushrooms you're eating, just because Naruto-kun ate it doesn't mean you should." he decided to add that as well, just in case.
Jiraiya had made an attempt at figuring out the shield with the Daemon in it, but as far as he could tell it was just a very good piece of metal for blocking. It didn't conduct electricity, it was heat resistance, and as far as he could tell the only issue was the existential dread that set in whenever he tried to use it.
He left a note marking it as safe for use by the Konton Gundan, which according to Tsunade was going to be code for 'do not touch' for literally every other military branch in Konohagakure.
With that work done, Jiraiya left the village to check on his information network and enjoy the pleasures of prostitutes who only knew him for his fame and money.
Naruto left his usual swords behind to practice with his new swords, finding that they seemed to naturally pull some of his chakra as he swung them to turn it into Raiton chakra. He decided he liked the sound they made, noticing it was different than when Raiga had used them, likely due to his strange chakra affinity.
"Raimeiton..." Naruto mused, deciding he liked the name of that for his unique chakra affinity, mostly because calling it Ototon would be a bit odd. He wondered if any of his future kids would have it, but remembered the Shodai Hokage had a Mokuton affinity that wasn't passed down to his children or Tsunade.
That thought halted the hermaphrodite mid kata, the Nidaime Hokage had been the brother of the Shodai. Only one had the Mokuton, nobody before or after in his blood had it. But Kekkei Genkai were genetic, however he now knew of a method by which something exactly like Kekkei Genkai could be gifted to an individual.
Naruto frowned as he wondered about that, the Shodai shared the title Shinobi no Kami with the Sandaime Hokage. They'd held the titles for rather different reasons though, but the blonde genin couldn't help but wonder if Hashirama Senju had also been a champion of a Kami of some kind.
The blonde quickly decided that he had no way of knowing so it wasn't worth worrying about, he had other things to worry about, like performing Raikyu with his cool new swords. He heard someone entering the same training grounds he was using and looked over in the direction they were coming from, he sniffed the air to find the scent vaguely familiar but not enough to identify.
Then he saw it was Tenten and grinned as he waved, "Oh, hey Naruto-kun." she greeted, "Hear me coming?" she asked, curious about his heightened senses. She wasn't trying to erase her presence but she wasn't stomping around either.
"Yeah, I tried to guess who it was from the scent but I guess I don't know you well enough yet." Naruto answered, trying to remember if the girl was interested in Neji or Lee, then he remembered she'd blushed while looking at Sasuke once ages ago.
Tenten raised an eyebrow, "How do you not get a sensory overload?" she wondered, the blonde just shrugged since he had no idea, "Well, anyway, seems you're getting really into kenjutsu." she mused, a little jealous the blonde had managed to nab the Raito for himself.
Naruto grinned, "I guess I just like swords." he laughed, "I need to get used to these though, not used to the balance at all and the pommels are really weird." he added with a sigh.
Tenten pointed to said pommels, "They connect, you can click them together to use both as one double-bladed weapon." she pointed out with a slight smirk, proud of her expertise.
Naruto blinked owlishly as he did as instructed, "Oh, woah, these are going to be harder to master than I thought." he mused, "There's surprisingly a lot to these." he added with a chuckle, starting to practice spinning the staff-like shape his new weapon had taken when clicked together.
Tenten smiled as she recalled what she'd read about them, "They're said to be imbued with lightning, the sharpest blades in existence. I've heard one wielder could even control them remotely." she explained, now they they weren't being wielded against her and her team she was much more enamored with them, "A good thing Raiga didn't do that." she added.
Naruto frowned at that, "I didn't get to use every jutsu I know either, never really do in any single fight." he pointed out, "Sometimes things just happen and you don't get to use an ability before it's over."
Tenten frowned at how morose the blonde sounded, "Well, maybe you'll figure it out for yourself anyway." she mused, "Anyway I actually came out here to get some training in myself," she added as she started stretching, "I've been working on a new ninjutsu but today I'm just doing physical training and some shurikenjutsu." she explained, she may be trying to be a better kunoichi but she still regarded weaponry as her specialty.
"Well it's a big training ground," Naruto mused before he got an idea, "how about I treat you to some ramen after we're done?" he offered with a grin.
Tenten was surprised by the offer, "Don't you have enough girlfriends?" she asked dryly.
"One of them is a fiance, and also no." Naruto answered as he continued to practice with the Raito.
Tenten couldn't resist laughing at that response, "Ah what the heck, I won't turn down free food after training." she decided, "Just don't expect me to come join your little harem after one date." she added with a smirk.
Naruto's only response was a smirk of his own, he'd picked up on the wording of that.
"Extra spicy for me, Teuchi-jiji!" Naruto requested eagerly as he sat down after a day of training.
Tenten sat next to him, "I'll have a tonkatsu ramen." she ordered, deciding on something nice since the blonde was paying. She saw how much the horned genin made in a gambling hall on the way back from Kawa no Kuni.
"How many girlfriends are you trying to get?" Ayame asked curiously, raising an eyebrow at the young blonde.
Naruto considered that question, "I dunno, you want in?" he offered with a grin, both ramen chefs were startled by that and Teuchi noticed with some alarm that his daughter blushed.
Ayame blinked owlishly, "Me?" she asked incredulously.
Tenten laughed, "Wow, trying to pick up other girls while on a date?" she asked in a teasing tone, none could deny the sheer confidence the blonde had, "It's a wonder you managed to get the girls you already have." she pointed out.
Naruto smirked, "Well you're more amused than offended, so I'm doing something right." he pointed out, "Besides, Ayame-neechan has always been nice, pretty too, so of course I cherish her." he insisted.
Ayame flushed brighter red at that and chuckled nervously, "I'm flattered, but you're a bit young for me." she excused.
Naruto pouted at that, "Well I'll try again when I'm older I guess." he decided with a shrug. Teuchi resisted the urge to go into protective father mode against his best customer, mostly because the genin was younger than Ayame and she was turning him down.
Tenten shook her head, "How did you get those three girls anyway?" she asked curiously.
Naruto looked confused, "Three?" he asked then he realized, "Oh! Well Kin-chan isn't a girlfriend actually, she's a slave." he explained and Ayame almost dropped Tenten's ramen order, "Hinata-chan seemed to already have a crush on me so after I finally noticed that I just pursued her a little and she was eager, weirdly enough Hiashi was fine with marrying her off to me which is why she's my fiance." he continued to the surprise of the listeners, "Karin-neechan is family, so I guess she just wants to rebuild the Uzumaki clan." he finished with a shrug.
The fact one of Naruto's harem was considered family and referred to in sisterly terms was confusing and concerning to the three, but Tenten knew enough about clan affairs to understand they probably weren't that closely related and it tended to help produce or ensure Kekkei Genkai.
Karin flinched at the sound of the koto Kin had been given, the dark haired girl hadn't tried to put anyone under a genjutsu yet thankfully but her attitude still made the red head suspicious. She closed her eyes and focused on the feel of chakra around her to ensure she wasn't under genjutsu, and upon confirming that she returned to reading the scroll on iryojutsu she'd borrowed from the library.
The scroll contained basic stuff she already knew, but she was considering asking to just join the hospital staff. If she was a field shinobi she might be forced to use the ability that had drained her mother to death, and that idea didn't sit well with her now that she was free of Kusagakure.
The only person she might let bite her at the moment is Naruto, and he was venomous so that was a bad idea for other reasons.
Despite how jumpy it made her, Karin decided the koto was a good choice of instrument. It gave the apartment a very traditional feel despite appearances, and it matched well with Naruto's choice of clothing. Although Karin was aware that was mostly Maemi's choice.
The red eyed Uzumaki glanced over at the Muse, wondering why she wasn't following the blonde Uzumaki around, "Are you making opium?" she asked suddenly.
Maemi looked up, "Yeah, it's a good pain killer." she responded bluntly.
Karin frowned, "That's illegal." she pointed out.
Maemi scoffed, "No, selling it is illegal." she corrected, "Producing and using it is not." she added with a smirk.
Hiashi raised an eyebrow at the apartment Naruto was living in with his daughter, he decided it looked cramped. That was why he was here he supposed, the Hyuga clan had managed to buy up some property for cheap after Orochimaru's invasion and the elders were insisting that his daughter living in a cramped apartment reflected poorly on the clan. The sounds of a koto coming from within were quite pleasant though.
So the head of the Hyuga clan knocked on the door and, after the koto stopped, was greeted by a dark haired young lady who was not his daughter, "Is Naruto Uzumaki in?" he asked politely.
Kin wasn't sure who the guy at the door was, but she knew enough to tell he was Hyuga and seemed rather refined, "Yeah, I'll get him." she said, not sure if she should invite him in.
In a moment Naruto was at the door, "What's up?" he asked with a raised eyebrow.
Hiashi noted that the young horned genin was still rather unrefined, and also that he'd gotten slimmer since he last saw him, "I came to make an offer to you, Naruto-san." he said politely, "We Hyuga have in our possession an empty plot of land, given your recent betrothal to my daughter and your current living arrangements I thought to offer it to you at a bargain price." he offered.
Naruto frowned, "Oh, well come in I guess." he offered, Hiashi slipped off his sandals and stepped into the apartment, "Hinata-chan bought tea recently but we really only have her tea set and I'm not too big on it." he said idly, "Kin-chan, could you make Hiashi tea?" he asked.
Hiashi reminded himself the young blonde had not been raised very well, referring to a guest without honorifics and making a request instead of a demand of a servant would be downright unthinkable to most. But Hiashi had no issues with the odd mannerisms of the hermaphrodite, he understood his situation and made certain concessions.
The Hyuga head didn't want to charge too much for the empty plot of land, but he knew the elders would complain loudly if he didn't at least make some capital back on it. So he negotiated a price that was barely less than it was worth and more than he paid for as he enjoyed his daughters choice of tea.
Hinata was surprised to see her father, but quickly understood why he was there and greeted him politely. Karin decided to stay in the bedroom with Maemi, studying her iryo scrolls as the Muse kept working on questionably legal substances.
By the time negotiations were done Naruto was smoking his kiseru, a bit more relaxed in the presence of the Hyuga clan head. Hiashi handed over the deed and accepted the money, surprised the blonde carried the cash with him. Apparently the young Uzumaki didn't use banks, a dangerous prospect but he needed to get home himself.
So Hiashi bid a goodnight to the residents of Naruto's apartment and wished them luck in the construction of the abode.
The next day Naruto went to the site of his new property with all three girls who lived with him, Maemi was still working on making drugs so she remained behind again.
It was not as modest a plot of land as the price he paid implied, it was by no means a compound but it was enough to build a nice house. The issue was Naruto didn't know the first thing about construction, nor did he have the time for such a project. He considered summoning Daemons for it but decided against it, figuring he'd just hire actual laborers with experience in house construction.
With that decision made he asked Karin to handle that while he went to ask for another mission to keep his funds high.
Tsunade looked up as Naruto came in requesting a mission, "Actually I do have the perfect mission for a Ninso." she mused with a smirk, "They can't afford much," she continued, "so just take Hinata Hyuga and one other genin with you." she finished.
Naruto thought about it for a moment, "Is Tenten-chan available?" he asked.
Tsunade nodded, "You go get your fiance, I'll send a summons to Tenten and Chishima-san, the messenger, will take you to meet the client in Tori no Kuni." she decided, figuring that if there really was a ghost then the Byakugan would be useful and Hinata was a Shibo Ninso by now as well.
Maemi was rather surprised to find out that Naruto didn't like the idea of fighting a ghost, the messenger from Tori no Kuni seemed similarly confused, "Are you not a Ninso?" Chishima asked curiously, "I would assume exorcism to be part of your specialty in such a case." he pointed out.
"You've fought an ikiryo." Maemi pointed out, figuring that Shukaku should be far scarier than any restless ghosts.
"That was different!" Naruto insisted, "Gaara is possessed, that ikiryo was already bound by a Fuin, this one is out in the open, I don't know any Fuinjutsu for ghosts!" he complained, although it would be more accurate to say he didn't know any Fuinjutsu at all, "I just cut things!" he added.
Tenten sighed as Hinata tried to comfort the blonde, "Well, chakra is partially spiritual energy right? Maybe ninjutsu work on ghosts?" the Hyuga suggested.
"It might not even be a ghost," Tenten pointed out, "there are plenty of genjutsu and ninjutsu that could make those who don't know any better believe there is a ghost." she explained reasonably.
Chishima was vaguely confused by the genin, the fact their highest ranking ninso was apparently scared of ghosts was not a comforting thought. He was also confused by Maemi, the small Imp seemed like a baby oni in appearance and carried a pair of scrolls strapped to her back. The odd fanged swords and hengeyokai appearance of the horned blonde did little to assuage the doubts of the bespectacled messenger from Tori no Kuni.
When the group arrived at their destination, dusk was just passing and the guards of the town were apparently chasing after the ghost. Naruto wasted no time, "Shifuku no Kurushimi!" he announced, flicking his right arm at the flying ghost but seeming to miss at first. The blonde grinned however and let the ghost escape as he moved towards one of the rooftops.
Tenten and Hinata followed, confused by the blonde until the saw him inspecting a bit of blood, "So this ghost bleeds, huh?" the older kunoichi mused with a smirk, figuring that settled the issue of whether or not it was a ghost or an imposter.
Naruto wiped up some blood on his finger and sniffed it, "Better than that, I can track them!" he explained with a grin, then to the concern of the two kunoichi with him he tasted it, "Yep, definitely a living human." he ascertained, although he couldn't tell much more than that.
Chishima caught up to them, panting and out of breath from trying to keep up with the ninja when they actually got moving. He realized idly that they had merely kept to his pace on the journey, although he assumed maintaining such speeds for long periods was likely not viable. Setting aside those thoughts for now he guided them to where they would meet with Moso, the head priest and actual client.
Maemi idly wondered why the priest couldn't perform the exorcism, but decided not to voice it since the ninja had determined the culprit wasn't actually a ghost anyway.
Now that he had the scent of his target, Naruto didn't want to rest for the night, but agreed as Moso was apparently asleep already. Annoyed by the setback, he started groping Hinata once they were mostly alone.
Tenten stared at the brazen behavior in shock, "I'd tell you to get a room," she began dryly.
"We're in a room." Naruto interrupted bluntly, Hinata looked embarrassed but unwilling to stop the blonde.
Tenten rubbed the bridge of her nose, "I mean a room where I am not!" she retorted, "They gave us one room to share, can't you two keep it in your pants for one night?" she requested.
Naruto pouted, "I don't want to." he responded, "Why don't you just join us instead?" he offered with a raised eyebrow. Hinata jumped in surprise, her blush deepened and she stared at her betrothed in shock.
Tenten's eye twitched, but to her own surprise she considered it, "N-no." she decided after a longer moment than she intended, her own cheeks flushed, "I think I'll just go have a bath to relax before bed, I hope you're done by the time I return." she said firmly as she stood up.
"Make it a long bath then." Naruto said with a grin, Hinata just hoped she'd be able to walk in the morning. Tenten decided to end the bath with a cold shower.
The next morning, as he was leading the genin to meet with Moto, Chishima wondered why Hinata walked with a slight limp. She also seemed oddly more tired than she had before going to bed, "I hope the bedding was not too uncomfortable." he said as way of small talk.
Hinata blushed as she realized the cause for his concern, "It was fine, I'm just used to, uh, different sleeping arrangements." she assured, not wanting to come off as pampered. Chishima was just more confused since the Hyuga girl seemed fine camping out on the way to Tori no Kuni from Konohagakure.
Tenten was half tempted to explain to the man, but decided it would only serve to embarrass Hinata since Naruto was completely without shame. She looked for something to distract herself, returning to a room that smelled like sex and the sight of an exhausted Hinata asleep in Naruto's content arms had practically negated the purpose of her cold shower.
"This is a surprisingly humble abode." Tenten decided to comment, used to the shrine Neji had made and more ostentatious temples.
"Moso-sama is a good man, he doesn't care for material possessions." Chishima explained happily, Naruto couldn't help but feel oddly insulted by that even though it wasn't directed at him.
Soon enough, Moso himself arrived, "I apologize for presenting such a poor domicile, and I hope I did not make you wait too long." he greeted, Tenten and Hinata bowed along with Chishima as he entered.
Maemi saw no reason to defer to a priest, so she followed Naruto's lead in staying sitting up as the blonde himself inspected the man, "Well, we were ready last night." the blonde answered, "I understand you were asleep though." he added with a shrug.
Tenten suppressed the urge to force Naruto to be more polite, he was technically the mission leader. Thankfully Moso seemed rather amused by the blonde instead of offended, "Well I am only human." he responded with a laugh, "In any event, I beg you three to solve the mystery of this ghost and set the worries of the town to rest." he said with a humble bow.
Naruto nodded, "Yeah, no problem, we'll have it solved in no time." he assured, not bothering to go into detail of how since he was eager to get the mission done.
After the meeting Chishima suggested they meet with the Daimyo, a young man named Sagi. Naruto had agreed, since he couldn't smell anyone with recent injuries in the town and none of them had the same scent he'd detected from whoever had been in the suit of armor. Apparently it was the belief of the locals that the ghost was the restless spirit of the former Daimyo.
To Maemi, such a thing would imply that there was likely a rumor that the former Daimyo did not die peacefully. A curious prospect, but not exactly shocking considering how common assassinations tended to be among those grabbing for power. Even if it wasn't true such a rumor was likely to spread simply due to the commonality of such occurrences.
So Chishima showed the Konoha genin and Imp of Slaanesh a lake where Sagi used to spend time, apparently it was the only likely place they'd be able to meet the young man. Naruto found the idea of waiting near a lake in the hopes someone would come to reminisce about better times to be irritating, but it seemed Chishima knew Sagi well as that was exactly what happened.
Naruto's eyes widened suddenly as he picked up a familiar scent and stared at the palanquin carrying the young Daimyo in shock, Maemi realized why and wondered how they were supposed to handle this. Then the blonde felt malicious intent and leaped from cover, using one of the Kiba blades to parry some shuriken going from the lake to the Daimyo out of the air as he landed in their path.
"Shibari no Ashikase!" Naruto declared, thrusting his left hand towards the assailants and capturing one. To his annoyance they managed to use Kawarimi no Jutsu, and the Tatakainouta didn't kick up as the enemy escaped.
"What is the meaning of this?" Sagi demanded to know angrily, "Is this Moso's doing?" he questioned Chishima as he and the kunoichi came out of hiding. The Daimyo was a fair skinned youth, with long, dark purple hair held up in a topknot, an oddly heart shaped face, and large onyx eyes, dressed in a traditional multi-layered kimono fit for the ruler of the land.
Naruto stared at Sagi with a look of confusion as Chishima began to explain, "Please, Sagi-sama, these shinobi come from Konohagakure no Sato. Moso-sama sent me to get them-" he tried to reason with the young Daimyo.
"Pointless." Sagi interrupted in a cold tone.
"Yeah, it is." Naruto spoke up, "I have a couple of questions for you though, Sagi-chan." he began, and the guards of the Daimyo glared at the blonde for his improper honorific usage, "For one, why are you dressing up like a ghost?" he asked and both the Daimyo and guards looked taken aback, "From what I've gathered Moso is one of the only people being harassed, so I assume-" he tried to continue.
"Keep such absurd accusations to yourself, cur!" Sagi snapped, "If you continue to utter such nonsense I will have you arrested!" he insisted.
Naruto narrowed his eyes, "Our mission is to solve the mystery of this Shiroki Nomoi Musha." he said firmly, "When we arrived I managed a glancing blow and got the scent of the blood of whoever was in that armor." he explained, "It's hidden under shampoo and perfume, but you can't fool my senses." he finished.
"Guards!" Sagi ordered frantically and the men moved to arrest the blonde.
Naruto brandished his Raito in both hands, "Don't cause a diplomatic incident, I might be able to help you out here." he warned dangerously, leaking his killing intent, "I don't get why you're dressed like a guy either, but explain to me why you're doing what you're doing." he demanded, "The former Daimyo didn't die naturally, did he?" he asked.
Sagi was startled, so were Tenten, Hinata, and Chishima. The guards seemed hesitant mostly from the killing intent, but one shakily took another step towards Naruto and found a slit pupil glare from purple eyes leveled on him, "Stop!" Sagi ordered quickly, perspiring slightly, "If you offer me help, you must understand that your client, Moso, is my enemy." 'he' warned, "I didn't expect ninja to have such acute senses." he added with a sigh.
Maemi scoffed, "Naruto-sama is no mere shinobi, he's a ninso, and his senses are beyond even most predatory animals." she explained.
Sagi sighed again, "Still, are you willing to turn against your client? Such a thing looks poorly for your home village." the young Daimyo warned.
Naruto shrugged, "Our mission is to solve the mystery, I'd say mission accomplished." he decided bluntly, "So how about you hire us next?" he offered with a smirk, he didn't get what was going on between Sagi and Moso, but acting like he did would lead to them revealing things they thought he already figured out according to Maemi.
The Daimyo looked hesitant, "Guards, stand down, and keep everything that happens here to yourself." at that order the confused guards stepped back from the blonde ninso, "I apologize, Chishima-san, for this deception, but it seems I underestimated shinobi. I am not Sagi, my brother died that day, not me." she said sadly as she undid her topknot.
Chishima's jaw dropped, "Toki-sama?" he asked and the Daimyo nodded, "But why? Why harass Moso-sama?" he asked, confused by the deception and betrayal.
Toki sighed, rubbing her temples, "I hoped to deal with this myself, but I suspect Moso is not who he claims. I believe he is the one who killed Otousama, and Sagi-niisama too." she said angrily, Chishima looked like his world was crashing down around him.
"So you want me to kill Moso?" Naruto asked flippantly, oddly fine with the idea of assassinating a head priest.
"No!" Toki responded quickly, "I need to be certain, he isn't the only one who would benefit from my family being out of the way, Komei, the strategist for Otousama, is a likely candidate as well." she explained, "I suspect Moso most, simply because he is a more recent addition to the court."
"I'll get a confession out of Moso then." Naruto said, "Or confirm it's not him." he added quickly at the alarmed looks he received, "Chishima should stay behind, Hinata-chan and Tenten-chan, take Toki-chan and keep hidden nearby." he ordered quickly. Maemi smirked, knowing her lie detecting ability would be coming in handy.
The guards seemed annoyed with the familiarity and lack of decor regarding their Daimyo from the young genin, but were reeling themselves from the new information and followed the orders of Toki without complaint.
Moso was curious that the blonde shinobi was meeting him with only the oni, "How goes the investigation?" he asked.
"It's all dealt with," Naruto said honestly, "mission accomplished but I have some questions." he continued quickly.
Moso raised an eyebrow, "Mission accomplished? So what was the true identity of the Shiroki Nomoi Musha?" he queried curiously.
"I'm asking the questions here." Naruto retorted, "State your name and profession." he demanded.
Moso's eyes widened in alarm, "Have you given leave of your senses? I am the head priest of the court of the Daimyo of Tori no Kuni!" he exclaimed.
Maemi frowned as she detected no lie there, "Your name?" Naruto repeated, just because he was appointed head priest didn't mean he had the qualifications.
Moso scoffed, "This is absurd! Where are your teammates? I would speak to-" he began and found one of the Kiba blades at his throat.
"I said," Naruto began in warning tones, "I am asking the questions, answer truthfully or find yourself in contempt of my investigation." he demanded.
Moso started to sweat, "What? You said your investigation was done!" he snapped frantically.
Naruto smirked, "This is a new one, I've been hired to learn who assassinated the previous Daimyo." he revealed and he could hear the heart rate of the man spike with panic, "Now tell me your name." he demanded.
Suddenly the Tatakainouta kicked up, Naruto pulled out the other half of the Raito to parry a shuriken as Hinata and Tenten burst from cover, the older kunoichi carrying Toki as the younger disabled a pair of unknown shinobi attempting to capture them with Juken strikes. With a burst of speed Naruto was on a third that got behind the Hyuga and cut him down.
The sharpness of the Raito was proven as the man fell to pieces, arms and legs severed with the torso cut in half just with a swing from each blade. Moso scowled as he retrieved a tanto from his robes, "Damn it, so it was Sagi who was acting as the ghost." he grumbled, "I didn't expect genin to give so much trouble." he complained, revealing he had intentionally given Chishima the minimum required money.
Naruto glanced around as they were surrounded, "Toki-chan, does this count as a confession?" he asked and the young woman nodded, the name and honorific startling the fake priest further, "Alright, Hinata-chan, cover the Daimyo." the horned blonde ordered, "Tenten-chan, hold these for me." he added quickly, handing the Raito to the kunoichi.
Tenten stared at the weapons in amazement, absolutely giddy to get a chance to use them even if only briefly she darted her eyes around, practically daring any of the surrounding ninja to attack. Naruto tore open his right thumb with his right horn tip and started weaving hand signs, one of the shinobi leaped at him but a quick hop and a crescent kick from his left foot to parry the kunai followed by a side kick to drive his right heel spur into the throat of the man halted that.
"Kuchiyose!" Naruto declared and was surrounded by eighteen Daemonettes of varying appearances, the androgynous single breasted Daemons grinned and leaped at their targets as Moso tried to escape, "Shibari no Ashikase!" the blonde declared, grabbing the man and pulling him back.
Instead of the priest there was a log, and Hinata turned to thrust a Juken jab into the solar plexus of a new man, "The appearance is different," she began, "but this keirakukei is the same one as Moso." she said as the shinobi stumbled back clutching his chest with a wince.
"Kagemane no Jutsu!" The strange shinobi announced, startling the Konoha ninja, however even Tenten noticed the wires and used the Raito to cut them. With a burst of chakra enhanced speed Naruto got behind the man and kicked out the back of his knees with a sweeping right kick that caused his bone spur to rip out the tendons of the man's legs.
Toki was startled by how quickly everything had happened but blew on a whistle and her guards moved in as Naruto's Daemonettes dispersed, seeing the bloodied battlefield that the house of the head priest had become alarmed them and they brandished their weapons on reflex.
"Guards, this man is behind the impersonation of a priest, as well as the murders of Owashi-tousama and Sagi-niisama." Toki explained, gesturing to the man Naruto was already starting to tie up.
The guards obediently stepped forward to apprehend the man, "One second." Naruto requested, before pressing hard into the shoulders of the strange shinobi with the painted face, a cracking of pain and a cry of pain had most of the audience take a hesitant step back, "Even without his legs and tied up like that, a shinobi is still dangerous." the horned hermaphrodite explained as he handed over the prisoner.
Toki sighed with relief, "Finally, my guards will get a proper confession out of him." she said, "I must thank you, you didn't need to offer me your services." she added gratefully.
Naruto took his Raito back from Tenten and put them back in his sash, "No problem!" he laughed.
Tenten decided to point out the problem, "We aren't supposed to accept missions without the Hokage's approval." she pointed out.
Naruto frowned, "Oh, uh, hm." he paused to consider how to handle that, "Call it a freebie then." he decided with a shrug, "Just make a shrine to Slaanesh-kaasama in town for me?" he requested with a laugh.
Toki was surprised at what basically amounted to an absolutely free mission, but bowed gratefully, "It will be done, Ninso-dono." she assured, her guards seemed quite alarmed by the show of reverance towards the young and feral looking blonde.
Naruto just laughed, "Thanks, I'll try to come see it when I can!" he promised, "Just request my esteemed self by name if you ever need help from a Kajo no Koki Ninso again." he added with a wide grin, his arrogant choice of referring to himself as 'ore-sama' made a few guards eyes twitch but their Daimyo didn't seem offended so they did nothing.
New Translation: Raimeiton - Thunder Release, a bit derivative I know
As an aside 'my esteemed self' is the best way to translate referring to oneself as 'ore-sama' which is considered by just about everyone to be absurd and reserved for royalty that claims divine heritage.
