Alberta looked at the postcard she'd received from her cousin Siobhan, better known as Puffin. Alberta had reached out to Puffin over Christmas to invite her on the Jungle Cruise.

Alberta was disrupted by the squawking of her pet bird, Kamaka. She looked over at the green bird in his cage, and pinned the postcard to her bulletin board.

She'd read it later, she told herself. Right now, she was busy. Albert Awol was going away and she needed a replacement.

Alberta turned on the radio. Duke Ellington's Harlem River Quiver was playing.

"Attention. Would the skipper of the Nile Nellie please move your vessel. You are docked in a no floating zone."

That would be Albert Awol with one of his announcements.

Kamaka squawked loudly again, and Alberta looked over at him.

'Oh, alright.' She opened the door to his cage. 'But you know the rules. No tripping or scaring any skippers.'

Kamaka looked at Alberta before squawking yet again and scurrying off.

"The previously announced Name the Crocodile contest has been suspended due to an acute shortage of entries. If anyone has any ideas about naming our pet croc, please drop them off at the office depot. Not to worry, you won't have to accept any of the prizes."

'Pet crocodile?' Alberta was instantly filled with dread. Crocodiles ate people. Crocodiles ate birds. She had to stop Albert.

"Now available - one full volume set of Teach Yourself Swahili. Yours just for the asking at the office depot."

That's where Alberta stormed off to. Out of her own office, and to the Office Depot, where Albert broadcasted. She burst in and sat down on Albert's messy desk.

'Albert, what's this about a crocodile?'

'It's a baby crocodile,' he said. 'It's cute.'

'It may be cute now, but will it be so cute when it bites your hand off?'

Albert held up his gnarled hand from a prior incident with a leopard.

'Okay.' Alberta nodded. 'Not the best example. But think about my Tātayya Albert. He wouldn't want the skippers to have crocodiles as pets.'

'He didn't want us to be tour directors either,' said Albert. 'He wanted us all to ferry cargo down the world's rivers. Bringing in tourists was your idea, Boss.'

Alberta slid down from the desk and looked at the man in front of her. Then she glanced at the photo he had on his desk of two white girls she recognised as Albert's wife and daughter, and a brown girl she knew to be his sister. She wasn't going to break him in the way she hoped, so why not bring his family into it?

'Albert, look. What if that crocodile ate Abigail?'

'What?'

'Would you ever forgive yourself for that?' asked Alberta. 'What if it killed Lucy? Or maimed Missy?'

'Okay, I get it,' said Albert.

'Yes, I'm worried about the skippers and Kamaka. But it's your job to worry about your family.'

'Fine. Yes. Fine.' Albert sighed. 'I'll get rid of the croc.'

Yes, what Alberta is listening to is an actual part from Albert Awol's loop.
Yes, he did have an encounter with a leopard in his office and it can be heard in his loop. It's not stated if he got injured or not though.
Albert Awol has been replaced now with his sister Missy Awol, who is also Indian, so I'm assuming Albert is at least part Indian. Anyway, his loop is still there for the listening on YouTube. That's what the "Albert Awol was going away" bit in the story is referencing.
Abigail is Albert Awol's daughter from the Tales From Adventureland series, while Lucy is his wife.
