Naruto whistled as he strut towards town, careful not to apply chakra to the whistle. The horned blonde was quite proud of himself, more than usual, having defeated two Janin and completed his mission. Well technically Choji had completed the official mission so he and Hinata could play hero, but it was the principal of the thing.
Maemi was still baffled that Naruto had two pairs of horns, she supposed it made sense but she didn't think he'd accomplish such a thing while still a genin. The Muse was confident her young master had matured enough for the chunin exams, he'd almost passed last time and was even stronger than before.
The four-horned young hermaphrodite was following the scent of his future wife, but it seemed she was coming to him with reinforcements. Naruto could smell Karin, he wondered why she was with the reinforcements until he remembered her mentioning something about becoming a reserve genin. He tried to identify the other scents, one smelled heavily of tobacco, and he was pretty sure the flowery one was Ino and he vaguely recognized Choji from earlier so he assumed he must be smelling genin cell ten.
Seeing them confirmed it, team ten with their jonin, likely responding to Choji, and they had Karin with them. Two iryonin was probably a bit unnecessary, especially since he hadn't actually gotten hurt. That thought surprised him, he'd beaten two Janin and come out unscathed. They'd come close, and their attacks were definitely dangerous, but he'd beaten them without a scratch.
Haruna and her guards were with the group too, surprisingly she looked relieved to see him. Naruto ignored that as he focused on what he considered more important, "Behold the new horns that Slaanesh-kaasama has blessed my magnificent self with!" he proclaimed proudly, hands on his hips and chest puffed out with a smug expression, "Also praise Hinata-chan, she killed the Janin known as Jiga." he added.
Haruna look of relief turned to irritation at those words, "We were worried about you!" she snapped, irritated with herself for bothering to be concerned for him.
"What? Why?" Naruto asked, raising an eyebrow at the young woman.
Hinata shrugged, "I wasn't worried, just disappointed I missed out on seeing Naruto-kun win." she answered.
Asuma sighed, "Most of us were worried because you were fighting Janin, those guys are no joke." he explained, "So, good job killing them I suppose." he praised, baffled that some genin had accomplished that.
"But why was Ohimechan worried?" Naruto reiterated with a smug smirk.
Haruna flushed with embarrassment, her eyes flicked to Maemi to remind her that lying was useless, "Because, as annoying and uncouth as you are, you're honest, strong, and trustworthy. More so than any of my fathers courtiers were at least." she answered, crossing her arms and turning her nose up at the young hermaphrodite.
Somehow Naruto managed to look more smug, "But Haruna-chan, why would such qualities cause you to worry about my magnificent self?" he needled, Asuma got the impression the blonde was straight up bullying the young woman at this point and he wasn't sure what to do about it. Kikunojo and Yurinojo seemed confused at well, so the jonin wasn't alone.
Haruna sighed as she already regret the idea she'd had, but with Maemi there she knew lying was pointless and she could tell Naruto would only become more insufferable, "I had the thought," she began, "that someone like you would do well in a Daimyo's court." she confessed, clearly embarrassed to admit praise for the blonde, "As a military advisor, in my court." she added bashfully.
Asuma stared at the young woman in shock, it wasn't unheard of for a military advisor to be a former shinobi who trained the Daimyo's personal guard. Naruto seemed to have at least a vague idea from his own surprise, the blonde reaching up to scratch the skin around his right horn, "Uh, does a military advisor need to be in the land?" he asked curiously.
"Well yes, but you and your family would be housed and-" Haruna began, subtly trying to sell the idea up. Asuma was alarmed, if Naruto accepted Konoha might actually be in some trouble, and so would Na no Kuni from Akatsuki.
"Nah, sorry." Naruto refused with a shrug, "My magnificent self will be Hokage, can't be living in another country." he explained, "You may build a shrine to Slaanesh-kaasama and request my magnificent self for any missions as one of Konoha's shinobi," he added haughtily before his smug smirk returned, "if you're going to miss me so much." he finished cheekily.
Haruna flushed, but was relieved he didn't have some noble reason to refuse as it made it easier to be annoyed with him, "For the best anyway I suppose, having someone as uncouth as you in my court would likely cause wars my homeland doesn't need." she decided, trying not to seem too disappointed.
Asuma sighed with relief, disguising it as an exhalation of smoke, "Alright you genin, we do need to head into Na no Kuni anyway, Haruna-hime's father was kind to our Godaime Hokage-sama in the past so we're helping make sure there are no further issues besides the Janin." he ordered.
As it turned out, the Janin had solved most issues for them. The traitorous courtiers were already dead, likely because they'd proven they couldn't be trusted. Maemi found the irony of that amusing, and the Konoha shinobi helped clean up and keep a look out for any further remnants of the Janin's underlings.
Naruto was assigned the rather boring job of assessing the trustworthiness of local people of prominence for court positions, irritating many applicants with his brash and uncouth nature. Haruna had seen well enough already that the horned blonde was trustworthy and that his Muse could indeed detect lies.
There were no injured for Ino or Karin to help with as the Janin had been ruthless, but they were glad to help Hinata's bruises. Asuma had to encourage Shikamaru to provide any help at all, and eventually decided on having him help screen applicants for the position of military advisor by playing shogi with them.
Every single applicant lost soundly, even the trustworthy ones seemed irritated to be beaten so soundly. The lazy young Nara seemed oddly smug, which surprised his jonin commander since the boy wasn't usually the type to take such pleasure in his victories. Asuma assumed it was winning against multiple different new people, all considered applicants for military advisor, including Yurinojo, Kikunojo, and the scant few surviving local shinobi.
Hinata took the time to practice her taijutsu kata with her new arm, getting used to the new nerve endings, balance, chakra flow, and incorporating the new limb into existing kata. She was happy with the additional limb, and a local clothier even custom made her some new black cotton shirts, another long rubber glove, and a couple of new short sleeved jackets to suit her new third arm.
Finally Shikamaru decided to say who had done the best out of the military advisor applicants, "Kikunojo-san did the best." he said bluntly, not bothering to explain his reasons. Despite earning the position Kikunojo really felt like either Naruto or Shikamaru would do better than him.
"Don't feel bad about losing to Shikamaru-kun at shogi." Asuma attempted to cheer the man up, "I tested his IQ once, had to disguise it as a game, but he scored over two hundred without really trying." he explained, "He's a real lazy genius, got a good mind for tactics. If he actually put the effort in he'd make a good chunin, he's just a bit lacking in motivation so he doesn't really try much unless something important is on the line."
Kikunojo felt a bit better about losing, and he decided to make a physical note to request Shikamaru Nara for a mission from Konoha should Na no Kuni ever need military assistance again. He also wrote down Naruto Uzumaki as well, as grating as his arrogance could be he was trustworthy and strong.
Haruna had ordered construction of a shrine to Slaanesh, using the easier to pronounce titles and names for the sake of her own tongue. The populace were rather interested, especially when they learned a Ninso of the faith was the hero who protected the daughter of their beloved departed Daimyo.
The physical appearance of said horned ninso gave pause to some, but as he had saved their land even those who thought him a yokai assumed he must be the benevolent kind. Some started to refer to him as Yokai Ninso, mostly because they assumed that was what he was.
Ino sighed as they traveled home to Konoha, "Dealing with so many corpses," she shuddered, "even as an in training iryonin that was a bit much." she complained.
"I've seen worse." Karin said dryly, understanding by now that ninja like Ino were why Konohagakure no Sato had a reputation for being soft. The village simply had strong enough individuals that most genin could be sheltered, she supposed that was the point of young genin though, to be sheltered by a jonin commander and instructor while they developed.
To Karin who was used to dealing with such things, Ino seemed like a late bloomer, she was developing though. It looked like she was training a bit more seriously now at least, having put on some healthy weight. Still not much muscle or fat compared to her peers, something that bothered the girl a little.
"Well," Ino began, thinking up a retort, "you live with Naruto, of course you've seen worse." she decided on dryly.
"Hey!" Naruto snapped in an offended tone, "My magnificent self is super merciful y'know!" he insisted, crossing his arms and huffing at the remark from the other blonde.
Ino decided not to clarify that he'd misunderstood her, shaking her head in exasperation. Karin did have something to add, "You're only merciful if they're beautiful, Naru-niichan." she pointed out.
"So?" Naruto asked, not seeing a problem with that. It worked out for him so far all things considered.
"That's kind of shallow." Asuma pointed out, acting like he was enjoying nature while keeping his senses on the surroundings.
"Only if you think appearance is the only thing to make someone beautiful." Naruto retorted with a shrug, he'd already decided that personality and deeds could make a person uglier or prettier in his mind.
Asuma supposed that was a fair point, and decided not to bother commenting further.
Tsunade decided to start drinking before the report started, she knew the Janin were involved already from the message Choji had sent back. She still wasn't expecting the details, such as two genin defeating the Janin or Naruto being offered a courtiers position. Hinata's new arm was interesting, but the Hokage was used to ninso coming back with new stuff at this point. Aside from Sakura's tail this was the first entirely new appendage though.
Naruto seemed even more proud of himself than usual, "Good work." Tsunade praised, "You went above and beyond mission parameters, my only complaint is that you didn't request help sooner." she added, deciding not to scold them for not leaving Haruna and her guards to die even though it would have been much safer.
"Those Janin didn't stand a chance!" Naruto laughed confidently.
"Normally I'd scold you for getting a big head, but none of you were seriously wounded so I can't fault your threat assessment this time." Tsunade confessed with a sigh, she didn't want the younger blonde getting too cocky and getting himself hurt, "In any event you're dismissed." she decided.
"Actually," Naruto began, scratching the skin around his right horn, "can I pay for an escort mission?" he requested, "I should only need Karin-neechan and Hinata-chan for a C rank mission to the ruins of Uzushiogakure no Sato." he clarified, "I'd also intend on taking Isaribi-chan and Haku-chan, Tayuya-chan and Kin-chan can watch the house and water my plants." he added.
"That would be a B rank mission." Tsunade corrected, "It sounds like you just want to pay for a vacation, but given the location I understand." she agreed with a nod, "However I'm putting a jonin on with you just in case." she added, "I should have a jonin ready for you by lunch tomorrow."
Naruto shrugged and nodded, he didn't mind paying a little extra, "What jonin are available?" he asked curiously.
"Asuma-san, Anko-san, Kurenai-san," Tsunade started to list off the ones Naruto knew and weren't injured or off duty, but she didn't need to list very many of the few who were available.
"I'll take Anko-chan then!" Naruto decided with a cheerful grin.
"That's not your decision, but I'll offer her the mission anyway." Tsunade agreed, wondering why the blonde wanted her along. She supposed it was better he get along with who she sent though, "On the note of Haku-san going with you, he has requested joining the shinobi program as well. Something Kakashi-san was late in bringing to my attention." she added the last part with a grumble, "From what I've heard he specifically just wants to be in a position to go on missions with you as back up, so we'll discuss it when you return and see if we can sort something out." she finished.
Haku was just glad to be going on the mission, even if it was as a servant instead of a shinobi he was just happy to help. Isaribi was a little confused though, "Why do you want me to come along?" she asked.
"Parts of Uzushio's ruins are flooded," Karin answered, "you're a diver right?" she asked curiously and Isaribi nodded, "Then you'll be a great help." she assured, "I also got some rebreathers so you won't be going in alone, I could only afford two though." she added.
"I'll go out and buy another two, and some other supplies." Hinata said as she got up, moving to leave and get that done quickly.
Naruto wanted to go with Hinata but supposed he should assure Isaribi, "Besides, you're part of the family. You are going to join the clan by being one of my wives, right?" he asked and the young woman blushed, stammered a moment and then quickly nodded, "Then that's a good reason to come with! I'd bring Kin-chan and Tayuya-chan too, but everyone else is too busy to water my plants while I'm gone." he added with a laugh.
Kin and Tayuya both shrugged, although they were interested in going they were fine with staying behind with each other. The fact Naruto wanted to take them did make the two former kunoichi wonder if the blonde intended on marrying his slaves too, but that would be seen as dishonorable by some.
The next day most of the Uzumaki household met up with Anko, who came to see them before noon herself, "Yo brats, I got the same venom glands as blondie since my last mission." she greeted proudly, "So what do you kids want in Uzushio? Odd choice for a romantic get away." she asked curiously once she was lead inside by Haku, who had become the designated door boy simply because he was usually fastest to answer the bell.
"It's not a honeymoon, it's a treasure hunting mission." Naruto insisted, "Karin-neechan thinks there might be some Fuin locked up that contain clan relics, and even if there's nothing major it's worth checking out." he added.
"Oh, trying to grab any scraps of your heritage that might have been overlooked by looters then." Anko realized, nodding her head in understanding.
"Pretty much." Karin agreed with a nod, "I'm curious to see if we can find scrolls, or weapons, or anything really." she confessed, the subject making her a little melancholy.
"Are we ready to go then?" Naruto asked eagerly.
"We had an early lunch," Hinata explained, "because we knew it was you coming." she clarified, remembering the woman had been early to the chunin exams.
"Sure, I had a late breakfast and we can grab something to eat on the road." Anko decided, taking charge as the jonin, "So come on, convenient for my clients and the two genin I have for this mission live together." she added with a chuckle, turning to leave as everyone but Kin and Tayuya grabbed their bags and followed.
The journey was mostly uneventful, they stopped at a roadside tea shop in the afternoon for some good food before they went off road towards the coast. Anko had been briefed on the main reason the mission was B rank and that Tsunade had wanted a jonin on the mission, Mizu no Kuni were still making expansionist moves and Naruto had ended up in the Kirigakure bingo books.
When they made camp Anko decided to show the blonde his entry in a pilfered Kiri bingo book, just because she thought his reaction would be funny. She was correct, "Only seventy thousand ryo!?" Naruto snapped, clearly offended, "My magnificent self is worth way more than that! Why is it a multiple of seven anyway? It should be at least one-hundred and twenty thousand ryo minimum!" he insisted arrogantly.
Karin read over his shoulder to see what it actually said, as did a few others so the blonde just moved the book so everyone could see it easier. Naruto Uzumaki was listed as the Konoha no Gyumahime, a nickname Hinata couldn't help but giggle at. Alarmingly Kiri had apparently found out he had their Raito somehow, and had appropriately listed him as an A rank genin.
"Your bounty is probably only even as high as it is because you have those swords of theirs." Anko pointed out, "Although they are including the swords as part of the reward for any Kiri shinobi that take you down." she mused, "This makes you the second A rank genin in Konoha." she added with a laugh, amused by the situation.
Naruto pouted anyway, "They don't list the Kajo no Ninso stuff," he whined, "they're underselling my magnificent self." he huffed.
Anko rolled her eyes, "Only you would get a high bounty and one of the highest possible threat rankings, and complain that it's too low." she pointed out with a raised eyebrow and a smirk.
"It is too low!" Naruto insisted.
"Oh please it's higher than mine you whiner." Anko scoffed, surprising the blonde and his harem that she wasn't bothered by that.
Isaribi looked confused, "Wait, is Konoha at war with Kiri?" she asked.
"No, why?" Anko responded with a question.
"Then how come they have bounties on you?" Isaribi asked, confused by that.
Anko chuckled, "Ah, civilians." she sighed, "Peace isn't a non-aggression pact, bounties are like any mission. Rich individuals, nobility, and even Shinobigashira or Kage themselves can decide they want someone dead for whatever reason, and pay to have a bounty set up." she explained, "If a non-aggression pact were to be signed we'd be expected to take all Kirigakure shinobi who aren't nukenin out of our bingo books and vice versa."
"Why not just kill the guy who put a bounty on my magnificent self?" Naruto asked, scratching the hair around behind his new right horn thoughtfully.
Anko scoffed at the suggestion, "First of all, the guy who put the bounty on you is the Daimyo of Mizu no Kuni. Apparently he's pissed you killed Gato, who was a good tax payer and made some curiously generous donations to the court of Mizu no Kuni." she said, knowing damn well they were bribes, "Anyway, it wouldn't work. Bounties are actually paid to a third party in advance with some extra that's off the books. Sometimes, rarely, people will add to an existing bounty to raise it. Hidden villages don't even actually need to add you to their bingo book if they don't want to, but most usually will." she explained, "Iwa actually added you before Kiri did from what I heard, not sure if the information is different though." she added.
Naruto decided he wanted to see the Iwa bingo book entry to see if they got his titles right, "Wait, but Kirigakure no Sato is in Mizu no Kuni. Why did Iwa do it first?" he asked curiously.
"Who knows?" Anko asked rhetorically with a shrug, "I've heard Kiri is in some turmoil lately, almost all their legendary swords are gone rogue or missing, purging Kekkei Genkai, sounds like there's a civil war there." she explained, "If both sides go too hard, Kiri might lose status as a member of the Shinobi Godaikoku."
Haku frowned at the information, "I doubt either side will commit too heavily to avoid that, and any invasion would have to be a naval invasion." he pointed out.
"Yeah, and they are a village of Suiton and assassination specialists." Anko agreed with a nod, "Terrain advantage is probably a big reason they can afford the civil war in the first place, well as long as neither side overextends anyway."
"Why don't we back a side?" Naruto asked, he already knew which side he'd choose.
"We've got our own problems." Anko retorted bluntly, "Orochimaru keeps sending bakemono at our border patrols towards our village, we're trying to track them back to their source by he must cover it well." she grumbled, "Also Iwa has been making more overt moves in testing our defenses, we've got pacts with Kusa but they've sided with Iwa before." she explained.
Naruto sighed at the explanation, politics was complicated and boring but he supposed he needed to learn to pay attention to it if he wanted to be Hokage.
Anko insisted on everyone sleeping separately, stating that she didn't want to hear them going at it when she was trying to sleep. Naruto and his harem were all irritated by this, and the jonin had attempted to pull rank when he argued. Then the blonde Uzumaki pulled the 'client card' and the purple haired woman was forced to tolerate the harem sharing a single tent.
It looked cramped anyway, Anko resisted the urge to join them despite Tankoshoku, the Muse in her Juin, insisting she should hurry up. The Imp insisted that it was fine, that the age gap was less of a big deal than she thought it was and that she shouldn't deny herself adventure. The jonin had enough weird looks without joining a harem of brats half her age, the fact Isaribi was closer to her age than any of theirs was a slight damper on her argument.
By morning Anko had not gotten much sleep, but she just had some coffee and ate a bit more food to offset that as they continued their journey. They reached a small fishing village by afternoon, still technically within Hi no Kuni's borders, but Mizu no Kuni's navy had been getting rather bold.
There were even a few kobaya in the water guarding the fishing boats, flying flags with the kanji for fire on them, although Anko knew they'd only stop naval raiders and show the Daimyo was willing to protect the village as a deterrent. Against shinobi, even genin, such ships didn't stand much of a chance. Especially not Kirigakure shinobi, who could scuttle ships with Suiton no Jutsu, or assassinate and replace the crew under cover of ninjutsu that seemed like natural ocean phenomena.
Anko mentally considered that she had no way to tell if any of the crews of the kobaya's had been replaced by mizu bunshin already, but she supposed that wasn't her mission right now. Regardless she knew to keep the potential danger of the water they'd be traveling through in mind, her empathic ability granted by having a Muse in her head should help notice any would-be assassins anyway.
Naruto wanted to get moving immediately, Anko agreed with the idea anyway so they started looking for a boat they could hire or rent out. The options were limited and lacking though, taking a canoe out onto the ocean would be a fool's errand but even a kobaya would be a bit much for their group.
"I could crew it with mizu bunshin." Haku suggested, surprising Anko who was unaware the pretty boy was trained by Zabuza. With that issue solved Naruto rented a kobaya, the group setting sail the same day they arrived to stay ahead of any lurking shinobi who might be looking for some quick cash. Especially in case any Kirinin were watching the place.
Nothing attacked them on the journey, Anko had Hinata using Byakugan to periodically check the surrounding waters for any lurking ninja with rebreathers. The Hyuga found it hard to be certain in the open ocean, but aside from some fish nothing came near their boat. However a problem presented itself as they got close to the nearly sunken island that was once Uzu no Kuni, namely why the place was named as it was.
Haku dropped anchor that morning, "We'll have to water walk the rest of the way, carefully too." he pointed out, gesturing to the various whirlpools.
Isaribi frowned, "Uh, I can't do that." she pointed out, she had only been a Kaima experiment so she hadn't exactly been taught the finer points of chakra manipulation.
"My magnificent self will carry you, Isaribi-chan." Naruto offered with a grin, and the group left the boat behind to head to shore with the horned ninso carrying the blushing young woman in a bridal carry. This was easier said than done, Karin almost fell in when stepping even close to a whirlpool caused her to nearly lose her balance.
It was slow going but eventually the group were all on solid ground, "We should be careful, Mizu no Kuni probably considered these ruins within their territory." Anko pointed out, "You're lucky this wasn't an A rank mission." she added dryly towards Naruto.
The horned young blonde just shrugged, "We might as well start looking around," he began before turning to the three armed Hyuga girl, "hey Hinata-chan, your Byakugan see anything worth checking out already?" he asked.
Hinata activated her dojutsu and scanned the area around them, "Well, technically yes." she revealed with a raised eyebrow, "There's a smooth stone wall I can't see through in an underwater cave." she explained.
Anko shook her head, "Underwater caves are dangerous business, it might just be a wall to a chamber with an entrance somewhere further from here that you haven't spotted yet." she lectured, "Just explore the ruins above water level for now." she suggested reasonably.
The only issue with Anko's suggestion was the lack of anything remaining in the looted lands, they found some rusted metal scraps, remains of shuriken and discarded coins. Naruto had half hoped to find something to identify what villages had helped destroy the place, but it had been so long that any evidence that might have existed was eroded by time.
Finally, they found something else Hinata's eyes couldn't see through. Clearing away some debris they found a stone slab underneath the destroyed floor of what was either a training hall or meeting place, Naruto attempted to lift it and failed. Karin focused and narrowed her eyes at it, "I can feel remnants of chakra in this stone, there's a pattern to it." she revealed.
Hinata was surprised since her dojutsu didn't see any chakra, "Should you or Naruto-kun try putting chakra in the stone?" she asked.
Karin looked uncertain, "Maybe, I'll give it a go." she decided, trying to flow her chakra into the slab. At first nothing happened, then the stone slowly slid to the side to reveal a straight drop down and a rotten wooden ladder.
"Alright it worked!" Naruto cheered, "I'll go first, Karin-chan can you carry Isaribi-chan?" he asked and the red head nodded. With that sorted Naruto started walking down the sheer face, sticking to the wall with chakra. Hinata followed close behind with Byakugan active, followed by Karin carefully carrying Isaribi, Maemi and Haku brought up the rear.
It was a long way down, and at the bottom was a moderately sized meeting chamber. Unfortunately there wasn't much to be found, some scrolls filled with records and logistics information, but there were two swords on a rack and a larger scroll than the others. The swords were a katana and a ninjato, both having ornamental spiral shaped tsuba made of green metal which was likely bronze with copper oxide, the pommels made of similar metal, their scabbards no longer had paint and there was no fabric around the old wooden handles.
Naruto inspected the swords and found the blades themselves were still fine, so he put them in his sash. Having six swords seemed good to him, "Is the scroll safe to open?" he asked.
"I think so." Hinata nodded, worried despite not seeing any danger due to how well hidden this place had been.
Naruto opened up the scroll, and thankfully nothing went wrong, "It's jutsu instructions!" he exclaimed happily, only to frown as he realized something, "Wait, this is all basic stuff." he complained, "Bunshin, henge, kawarimi, shunshin-" he listed, "wait I can't do that one yet." he realized, "Why did no one teach me Shunshin no Jutsu?" he asked.
"I once saw a chunin slam face first into a wall while practicing it." Hinata spoke up, it wasn't a real answer but it did suggest an answer.
"Oh right, the chakra control thing." Naruto remembered, he still had some difficulty with that. He continued to unfurl the scroll to see what else it had, "Tree walking, water walking, whirlpool walking." he listed before pausing at the last one, "Huh, this could be useful." he mused, "Mine now." he decided happily as he furled the scroll back up.
Isaribi felt bad that she hadn't been of any use, "What if one of these scrolls has more jutsu?" she asked curiously.
Karin sighed, "I was afraid to think that, there's so many of them." she complained.
Naruto pulled out a scroll of his own, "Gather them all in a pile, we'll sort through them at home." he ordered, not wanting to risk leaving anything behind if it might be useful.
By the time they were done Anko had come looking for them, "Find some goodies?" she asked with a raised eyebrow at the swords.
"No need to go in the underwater cave, we found the entrance you suggested!" Naruto answered happily, "Seemed like a meeting place, these blades seem ceremonial, so as clan head my magnificent self will take them home to be restored for personal use." he explained, wanting to keep the scrolls as something of a clan matter for now.
The others got the hint and nodded in agreement, Anko felt something was being kept from her but shrugged, "Alright, well if you're done we seriously shouldn't stick around long." she said, "I set up camp, so we might as well make our way home in the morning." she said, leading the group to the camp she'd set up.
Naruto blinked blearily awake, wondering what woke him. It took him a few moments to realize he heard an additional four heartbeats just on the edge of their camp, he wondered who was on watch and tried to figure out who based on scent. The sudden movement from one of the newcomers had Naruto moving before he finished figuring it out.
The Raito were in his hands and he cut through the tent to leap at the stranger, intercepting an adult in standard shinobi uniform, Kiri flak jacket and hitai-ate, brown eyes and short black hair. Naruto took note that he'd saved Karin, who had stumbled away from his impact with the man. Said impact had resulted in the Kiba bladed impaling the Kiri shinobi, three younger Kiri ninja having watched in horror.
"She killed sensei."
"Those blades, that's Gyumahime..."
"B-breasts."
They had three very different responses to their apparent sensei dying, Naruto had forgotten he'd fallen asleep shirtless. He couldn't really bring himself to be concerned, "They're not even A cups, why are you so flustered?" he asked with a raised eyebrow as he let the corpse of their commander fall from his blades, "And it's not Gyumahime damn it! At least call my magnificent self Kajomahime!" he demanded and Maemi struggled not to flinch at the title.
"We need to get you a bra." Karin muttered with a shake of her head, the other girls and Haku coming out of the tents from the commotion. Hinata briefly wondered why their tent had a hole in it until she saw Naruto's topless form standing over the corpse of an enemy shinobi, that would explain most things actually.
The three remaining Kiri shinobi made to retreat only to be bound by coiling snakes that burst from the ground, followed by Anko's left arm, which was followed by Anko herself, "Where do you Chigiri no Sato brats think you're going?" the snake summoning tokujonin asked rhetorically with a raised eyebrow and a smirk.
Hinata gave Naruto his kimono top, resisting the urge to start playing with his cold hardened nipples due to the situation they were in. The horned hermaphrodite reluctantly put his Raito down to pull the kimono on properly, Karin crouched down to double check the corpse of the man he'd killed as he did.
The three captured Kiri genin were relatively young, maybe a little older than Naruto but younger than Haku clearly. It was hard to tell which one was the kunoichi of the group or if there were two kunoichi though, all three were dressed in rather standard shinobi attire but only one of them was clearly broadly shouldered and masculine. He had similar eyes and hair to his jonin commander, only his hair was spikier and brown. The other two could have been twins with onyx eyes and the same neck length hair, the only difference between the androgynous twins was one had black hair and the other was blonde.
"We surrender." The blonde twin said bluntly, clearly hoping the rumors about Konoha ninja being soft held true.
"Good," Anko said with a nod, "now start talking, are there more of you?" she asked.
"Well that's a complex question, do you mean are there more of us Kiri ninja? More twins? Are you asking if we're the only three left on the mission or-?" The black haired twin rambled, terrified of his current situation.
"Just on this mission." Anko clarified with an exasperated look on her face, "For that matter, what is your mission?" she added.
The masculine genin of the group scowled, "It's just us three, mission failed so it doesn't matter." he grumbled.
Anko pulled out a kunai and gestured it vaguely towards the boys crotch, sensing these particular Kiri genin were not trained to withstand interrogation yet. The boy paled but it was his teammates who spoke up.
Specifically the black haired one again, "Woah! We were just following orders! Watching the ruins is supposed to just be a C rank patrol mission! This place barely gets treasure hunters or pirates looking for a place to rest!" the youth answered quickly, "Sensei wanted to take the red haired girl hostage to figure out if you guys got anything valuable."
Naruto frowned, "Well we're Uzumaki, so it's ours." he answered bluntly, "Actually, for that matter," he began as he narrowed his eyes, "was Kirigakure no Sato one of the villages to help with the destruction of this place?" he asked.
All three captured genin flinched, "Uh, technically yes, but it was the Sandaime Raikage's idea!" the blonde twin insisted, "It was a joint effort, because, uh, your clan was so awesome." they added, hoping to appease the ego of the spikier haired blonde.
"Yeah, we weren't even alive yet! I don't think our parents were on that mission either!" The black haired twin added hastily, hoping to avoid any attempts at vengeance.
Anko sighed, "We really can't afford for Kiri to start making moves against us." she grumbled, not liking the idea of killing clearly terrified young genin who were cooperating.
"What faction are you guys with?" Naruto decided to ask, earning confused looks, "There are rebels standing against your Yondaime Mizukage, right?" he clarified.
The masculine genin scowled at that, "As if I'd side with Kekkei Genkai freaks." he muttered darkly.
"I'm okay with killing him." Naruto told Anko, pointing at the boy.
The two androgynous twins jolted at that, "Wow hey you know what, I never liked the whole Chigiri no Sato thing anyway. Those Kekkei Genkai sure do seem, uh, real cool!" the black haired one rambled quickly.
Maemi giggled, "He's just saying what he thinks you want to hear, but surprisingly he's not lying." she revealed, amused by the easily intimidated young genin.
"Man, I hope I was never this much of a wuss." Naruto muttered, shaking his horned head at the Kiri shinobi as the masculine one glared at his slender teammate.
"How fresh out of the academy were you when we met?" Haku asked, figuring he could answer that if his estimate was correct.
"Less than a week." Naruto answered with a shrug, not sure exactly how many days he'd put up with D ranks before demanding a C rank.
Haku tried and failed not to look surprised, "You were fresh out of the academy, on your first C rank mission, and you charged head first at the Kirigakure no Kijin to save your sensei." he pointed out dryly, "You were never as normal as these three." he added bluntly.
Everyone was surprised at that, "Wait he did what now?" Anko asked, she knew that cell seven had run into Zabuza on their first C rank mission but she had not heard the blonde had done something so absurdly reckless, then something else registered, "Kakashi-san needed his genin to save him?" she asked with a sly smirk, clearly intending on teasing the silver haired jonin the first chance she got.
Hinata frowned, "Wait, you went on a C rank mission that soon out of the academy?" she asked, Kurenai had made her team wait much longer.
"My magnificent self demanded it, and Sandaime-jiji obliged." Naruto bragged, clearly proud of his influence of the deceased Hokage.
Anko scoffed at the arrogant ninso, "Well, I don't feel like killing these brats regardless of political leanings." she decided, "So we'll take them with us, and let them go to report to their failed mission." she explained.
Naruto frowned, glancing at the masculine member of the Kiri genin cell, "Fine." he grumbled, their jonin commander hadn't even been worth a boon anyway.
AN: Sorry for the late update to those who were used to my daily updates, but my schedule finally caught up with me a bit. I can't promise I'll be back to daily updates from here but I'll try anyway. At the latest there might be a gap day occasionally.
