we can all tell he was a little bummed out— his girlfriend is away for his birthday after all.
sasuke has been playing for three hours now and he looks better than when he started. he shared that sakura is out of town because of some conference that she needs to attend and won't be back until next week.
he didn't even plan on streaming tonight because he thought he will be celebrating it with sakura just like every year. that's why this stream was a surprise for us all. we never see him during his birthday, let alone five minutes before it.
still with his amazing aim and tactical mind, sasuke plays red dead redemption, albeit less talkative; moreso than usual. he keeps on glancing on his side, maybe at his phone, every now and then. he looks like an abandoned puppy with this small frown on his face and we're not sure if we're happy or not seeing this new side of him.
and then his phone rings at 11:58. he immediately pauses the game and picks it up without muting his mic. this time, we collectively agree it's not deliberate.
"hey," he answers softly at first but his small smile morphs into a scowl before looking at the screen. when he puts it back against his ear he snarls, "idiot, stop calling me."
it's naruto, for sure. he's the only one sasuke calls an idiot on camera. we listen to the one-sided conversation attentively.
"yeah, i don't care…"
"what do you mean? she said she'll be back on monday."
"she told you that and not me?"
at this point, sasuke is getting so focused on his call that he didn't see sakura slowly walking at the back with a cake on her hands. she waves her hand at the camera and his viewers are going crazy in his chatbox. everybody is screaming for him to look behind.
"i don't believe you… whatever i don't care," sasuke grumpily says before ending the call. he puts on his headphones back and his eyes stray on his chat.
his eyes go wide before whipping his head around.
sakura starts singing happy birthday, with a tender smile on her face, careful to not drop the cake or blow the candles out. sasuke's face isn't visible at this angle but we see him slowly removing his headphones and the tips of his ears getting red.
the clock strikes twelve and he stands up, meeting sakura in the middle of his room, and the song ends. we can see him looking straight at her as she greets him sweetly.
"happy birthday sasuke-kun."
he blows his candles and takes the cake out of her hands. after putting it down somewhere, he bends down and wraps his arms around her waist as he buries his face against her neck. it's so intimate that we all feel like intruding, but it feels like they don't care.
"sorry i lied," sakura murmurs while running her hands on his back. "i wanted to surprise you. i'm sorry, love."
sasuke just shakes his head no and embraces her even harder, earning a fond giggle from her. her gaze turns to the camera and she says, "you're still streaming."
he simply detaches himself from her but not before kissing her forehead. his hand still finds hers before going back to his set-up, now with sakura in tow.
the glow on his face is evident, as if he didn't look so sad a few minutes earlier. he just smiles a little before murmuring, "that's it for now. thanks guys." on his side, sakura offers another wave and a cute goodbye.

we don't see sasuke for the next five days. maybe he's still busy celebrating with his girl. you go, king!
