Orange Bird liked hanging out with the birds from the Tiki Room. They were fun. They treated him nicely. And they included him in things, even though he wasn't from the Enchanted Tiki Room.

"We're all Adventureland birds," José had said. "We need to stick together."

So they did stick together.

Every night when their shows ended at the Tiki Room, and after closing time in the Magic Kingdom, the Tiki Room birds would meet the Orange Bird next door at Aloha Isle.

Tonight was no exception.

'Hola, mi amigo,' said José, landing on the counter.

Orange Bird waved enthusiastically at him.

'Hello, Orange Bird,' said Fritz. 'How are you doing tonight?'

Orange Bird considered for a moment and shrugged. It hadn't been the best day for him. The AC broke and it got so hot inside the Sunshine Tree Terrace. The Cast Members had the fans blowing on them to keep them cool, but he had been stuck in that one uncomfortably hot area on top of the citrus swirl machine.

'Hopefully tonight will be better, no?' said Pierre.

Orange Bird shrugged again and nodded.

'Oh, I'm sure it will be,' said Michael.

'Si, of course it will,' said José. 'We will even change up our routine just for you.'

Orange Bird cocked his head curiously, wondering what the Tiki Room birds had planned.

'Fritz, the Dole Whip machine.'

'What?'

'Turn it on.'

Fritz brought his wing to his head in a salute. 'Jawhol,' he said and flew in to turn the machine on.

Orange Bird's eyes widened and his beak dropped.

Looks like they would be making pineapple Dole Whip.

'The Dole Whip machine is on,' said Fritz, as the machine hummed loudly behind them. 'What happens now?'

'Someone has to put Dole Whip mix in, no?' asked Pierre. 'I overheard one of the Cast Members talking.'

'Where is the Dole Whip mix?' asked Fritz.

Pierre and Fritz flew into Aloha Isle and began opening the cupboards and drawers looking for the Dole Whip mix. Michael flew down and joined them.

'Don't forget to look at the top!' José called.

Pierre flew to the top cupboard and opened it. A large bag was in there and so he, with the help of Michael and Fritz, pulled it out.

'It's the mix!' said Pierre, triumphantly.

'Si! Si!' José cheered. 'Put it in!'

'Where?' asked Fritz.

Michael flew to the machine and examined it. 'I think it's here.' He scratched at the port with his claws and tried pulling at it with his beak until it opened. 'Alright, fellas, put the mix in here.'

'We can't,' said Fritz. 'The bag. It isn't open.'

Pierre picked up a spoon with his foot and tried to stab the bag open. When that didn't work, he turned to tearing at it with his beak.

'Muy bien, put it in the machine now,' said José.

Michael, Pierre, and Fritz lifted the heavy bag and began to tip its contents into the machine.

Orange Bird watched on in dismay as the powder went everywhere; all over the floor, the counters, the machine, and on the birds themselves.

'Now put water,' said Pierre.

'Where do you get that from?' asked Fritz.

'The fridge,' said Michael.

'I'll get it,' said Fritz, flying over to the fridge. He pried the door open with his beak, grabbed a bottle of Dasani with his foot, and flew away, leaving the fridge door still open.

'Now you have to open it, genius,' said Michael sarcastically.

'I'll do it,' José offered. He did his best to crack open the bottle, but was forced to stop for a breather. 'How do the humans do it?' he asked.

'Opposable thumbs,' said Fritz.

After more than a few minutes, the parrots were able to crack open the bottle of water and poured that in the machine after the Dole Whip powder.

'Now what?' asked Pierre.

'You pull a lever,' José said as he perched on top of a lever, pulling it down. 'Someone get a cup and put it under.'

'Under what?' asked Fritz, as he grabbed a cup in his beak.

'Under the lever,' Michael clarified.

Fritz put the cup where Michael specified and after a while, the pale yellow ice cream started to come from the machine, filling the cup.

'It's coming!' Pierre said excitedly.

'Si! José turned to Orange Bird. 'This is all for you, mi amigo.'

Orange Bird pointed to himself with his wing.

'Jawhol, little bird. You've had a bad day. We want to cheer you up,' said Fritz.

Orange Bird hugged José and then Fritz in appreciation. He'd known the Tiki Room birds for years and even in that almost thirty years he spent away from Adventureland, he and the Tiki Room birds kept in touch. This was the nicest thing they, or anyone else, had ever done for him.

'The cup, she is filling up,' said Pierre. He pulled the cup away with his beak.

'Let's go somewhere we can enjoy this,' said José

Michael grabbed the cup with his foot, while the other birds grabbed some spoons, and they flew away to the Swiss Family Treehouse - leaving the machine on and the Dole Whip flowing.

At the top of the treehouse, they noted that they'd lost a good quantity of the pineapple flavoured ice cream, and some spoons, along the way, but they all grabbed a spoon and began to eat.

It was a good night. Everything was quiet. No background music loops to annoy them. The moon was in the sky - even a few stars were visible through the Disney light pollution. It was the perfect time between the time everyone left and the landscapers and cleaners showed up. And they took advantage of the magic.

None of that smoke and mirrors stuff or people being nice to you. That wasn't magic. This was the real magic.

That was until they were disturbed by a particularly irate cleaner at Aloha Isle.

'What on Earth happened here?'

Orange Bird is the mascot for the Sunshine Tree Terrace, an ice cream shop in Adventureland in the Magic Kingdom. He has no connection to the Tiki Room birds, other than the fact that they are all birds and are all from Adventureland.

Yes, Orange Bird is mute. He cannot talk or sing and it's part of his backstory that he got bullied and excluded for it.

I do not know how Dole Whip is made, but I do know it is with a powder and water. Disney probably keeps that powder under lock and key, but nothing will stop four very determined parrots from getting it if they truly wanted.
