Chapter 6

After a few hours of walking around Diamond city and most people refusing to talk to her, Nora started to get disheartened when she saw the sign on a building wall near the stairs that said All Faith's Chapel in bright red neon, a man outside that she could only assume was the pastor was standing as he swept the ground outside the door. "Father, I was wondering if perhaps you could help me" "I'll do my best, after all people of all faiths are welcome here." "That wasnt really what I meant but its good to know." Nora replied. "You look lost my dear perhaps the word of god can help you," "Not unless his word tell's me where to find my baby." Nora said sadly, "I'm so sorry to hear that miss," the pastor said softly to Nora "there is no point talking to security about missing persons but you could always try ol' Nick Vallentine at the dectective agency."

Nora's heart beat a bit faster at this news and thanked the pastor for the information, then got directions to the Detective agency. After the short walk to to agency she entered and saw a woman with her back to the door, "hello?" Nora said tentatively "Another stray coming in from the rain, I'm sorry you're too late the agency is closed" the woman said to her a bit sadly. "I realise this may be a bad time but i won't take up much off your time" Nora replied, "you don't understand the dectective has gone missing" the woman said a bit shortly to her.

"How do I get myself into these thing's" Nora thought to herself. As she walked towards Park Street Station, Nora saw painted signs that read "Swan stay away." "Judging by these signs I can imagine it' not the type of swan I'm thinking of" Nora mused as she continued her trek. She turned off the radio on her pipboy not wanting to attract any un needed attention from whatever Swan was. As she entered the subway station she checked her magnum and made sure she had extra ammo on hand as she heard voices ahead and assumed they were'nt the chatty types, her assumption was confirmed moments later as gunfire erupted from the room ahead of her and bullets began to hit the walls and the stairs near her.

Nora braced herself against a door frame and began to return fire hitting one of her assailants in the knees and another in the shoulder and as they screamed in pain and anger she moved into the room ducking behind an old counter for cover, this time she made sure to check the area around her remembering the incident in Concord a few weeks earlier. Nora holstered her .44 and pulled out her hunting rifle and took at aim at a third assailant who was looking in the opposite direction from her, lined up her cross hairs and fired hitting the man in the back of the skull, and as he dropped lifelessly to the ground she dispatched the other two.

A few hours and several minor wounds later she reached the giant steel door to Vault 114 and connected her Pip boy to the auxilliary input, pressed the button and watched as the door was pulled open. no sooner than the opening cycle ended Nora heard a voice "I hate when they open that thing, it's so god damned loud!" "Skinny, Darla? that you" Nora took the opportunity to hide as she looled for the source of the voice, and a ghoul dressed like an old mobster came into view with a sub machine gun ready in his hands. Nora placed her rifle down quietly and drew her .44, and as the well dressed ghoul passed her hiding spot popped the gangster in the back of the head.

Nora hunkered back down as she had failed to realize how loud the report of her .44 would be inside a Vault and knew that whoever else was here knew someone that shouldn't be there was. "Fucking brilliant" she admonished herself "should have used the knife would have been way quieter" Nora waited for twenty mins and when no one came running decided that now was as good a time as any to continue forward, and after grabbing her fallen enemies weapon and any ammo he had began to move deeper into the Vault.

Nora managed to sneak past alot of people, and she was glad for that as most of these mob look a likes either carried automatic weapons or baseball bats, and she wasn't too keen on being hit by either of the chosen weapon types. She continued slowly searching every closed room in case the missing dectective was in one of them and eventually came to the caffeteria where another man sneered at a window "How ya doin in there valentine? you hungry" another unseen voice fired back "Keep talking meathead it'll just give Skinny more time to figure out how to rub you out." "Ha keep talking you got nothin and you know it" the first man said "Is that so then why did I see him writng your name down in that black book of his?" "Lousy cheating card shark were his exact words and then he struck the name across three times." "Three strikes, the black book? I gotta go smooth this over" as the man turned to leave his spot he saw Nora slowly moving up the stairs and pulled a switchblade knife out of his pocket. "C'mon girlie lets go" the man sneered, Nora rolled her eyes and leveld the .44 bringing the barrel against the mans head and pulled the trigger, painting the wall behind him red.
